You sir have earned my respect when you said Oro is the crown jewel of SF5. People fail to understand how great of a character he is. His design, the way he looks, the way he fights, his combos.. everything about him is amazing. Such an underrated character.
I’m still impressed by how well Dan was handled. Obviously still a joke but his taunts are becoming more useful, he had the coolest “nerf” with red fireball, he got the punches from omega and he has a 1 bar v trigger. What’s not to love?
His VT1 when fully charged is actually probably the second best projectile in game when it comes to interacting with another. Only Gill's VT1 breaks it or another Dan charged VT1.
the "this fighting game is fun to watch cuz i know it well" is something i can heavily relate to. watching a pro player who plays your main do something you recognize as incredibly sick BECAUSE you play that character is one of the best fighting game experiences ever. when i used to play axl in strive id watch pro axl players do sick instant axl bomber combos and i was always impressed because i knew how tricky those were to execute
I really really love Akira, because even though her kit was fundamentally a bit on the basic side, she made up for it with complex interactivity, depending on opponent positioning; her combos change so much, and she rewards recognizing different situations more than most characters too, she has the stuff I really love from SF3: niche, high power and *flexible* juggles, optimizing all the different juggle positions and starters feels so good, and then you mix in the feint cancels they added later, her super jump stuff and it's just the best. Also her EX VS1 Fireball which is just a wall bouncing fullscreen gun is just so addicting
I have mixed feelings about SFV, though it’s more positive than negative and I like it WAY more than 4. One thing I can give it credit for is being the only time I’ve seen a character get nerfed and think “woah that’s genius”. Dan’s random red fireball is one of the most clever character changes I think I’ve ever seen in a fighting game, full stop.
Hahah, mixed feelings are the hallmark of an experienced fighting game player! If you don’t have mixed feelings about your game, then you haven’t learned enough about it yet. 💪
The people who dislike 4 tend to be people who were unable to access the elements of the game that make it so enjoyable. I love it too, I love it more than sfv, but it is painstakingly difficult.
SFV is currently an amazing game. Most of the detractors online parrot the same talking points that either are no longer relevant/present in the final version of the game, or are just purposefully vague and don't actually describe their faults with the game. The "stubby normals" and "characters tools are locked behind v-trigger" are just not that true? And I don't think it speaks to what they actually don't like about the game (Do you WANT Oro to have tengu stones all round?). SFV is a good game. But it will always be cool to hate on it.
Thank you Brian for showing off how fun the game can be, and your service of having to deal with the inevitable comments of “sfv sux” whenever you post literally anything
A lot of the surface level complaints people unfamiliar with the game are very silly, I totally get not enjoying the game or the launch leaving a bad taste in their mouth, but you do occasionally see people just parrot stuff heard 3 seasons ago and it's a real shame
I agree with this. I don't like SFV but it would be crazy to say it's not a good game right now. I think we have to make a separation between something not being someone's preference and something being bad. Too many people combine the two. "I don't like this game therefore it sucks" vs "It's cool, it's just not for me"
And for all those reasons in sf6 they removed the idea of a come back mechanic+tools unlocked behind it. They reintroduced hurtbox and made the normals less stubby. They added recovery frames on normals. They removed stupid plus ob moves, they removed proximity block.... Oh boy yes. Sf5 is a great game so why change everything about it? Spoiler. It's not a great game
Hearing you speak about something you're honestly passionate about truly warms my heart, I have been in a less than ideal mental state and sharing in this love with honestly feels like a gift, we will never meet eachother in real life and we'll never be friends but for a second however small i can say without a doubt that i loved you. Thank you, i hope you're okay.
I have never played a traditional fighting game, closest I've ever gotten is Kazuya in Smash Bros., but over the past months/years(?) you've really made me interested in the genre and I can never get enough content about them. Thank you!
I know if you're not interested in actually playing then I can't make you, but I totally want to recommend getting Street Fighter 6 on the launch day, if you can. The first few months of a new fighting game's release is one of the most fun times to play a fighting game. Even if it's your first arcade fighter, you'll have just as much experience with the game as everyone else. You might even be able to beat a mid level player, like Big Yellow. Even if you don't want to play online, there looks like enough single player content to still make a fun game and it's looking really good. It also has easier controls (basically Smash inputs) if you just want to see and do cool moves/combos.
If you want to get into them, I think Dragonball FighterZ is a great first pick with the only problem being the absolute barrage of season passes and DLC characters making the full game very expensive. But if you see it in a sale, go for it, it's great
Tekken is a long lasting, great game to get into. I'd say you should get into that since there's a lot of content to explore and there's many, many ways to play certain characters.
SFV is really cool in that the final patch the game got made it unquestionably the best version of the game in its history. It’s incredible how Capcom turned an absolute dumpster fire into a fantastic main line game with years of dedication With that amount of foresight, I have no doubt in my mind that Capcom will nail SF6’s launch. If they did this well turning SFV into a great game, SF6 can only go up from here
I came for the pokemon and have now listened to you ramble about games and hobbies I have no background with for 10+ hours. Love your content and I could listen to you talk about genuinely anything.
Can we talk about how SFV is the game that became a gigantic glow up? And how it went from genuine dog shit to one of the best of the series? It's kind of impressive how much Capcom pulled it from the depths.
@@SDhero21 it’s easily the worst rollback netcode I’ve experienced. It’s still better than the games using delay based netcode but those are becoming rare
I'm so glad there is people like you that give SFV the respect it deserves despite its trials and tribulations and despite if the game isn't for you or not. You have my respect.
As someone who cares a lot about the character storylines in Street Fighter, this game felt like a great compilation of all the lore throughout the series and some interesting new stuff as well. I also appreciate the way that seemingly every character is highly specialized so when you find a character that works for you, they really work for you.
As much as I liked the sides gimmick for Gill, giving him fire and ice versions of moves was such an insanely good idea, and giving Dan the rapid punches to make him even more of a parody of SNK's Ryo was genius as well. I also like the V-system in concept but they felt oddly tacked on to me. Making the Skills and Triggers into regular moves or supers for some of the world warriors in SF6 just made them shine even more, especially Guile's Sonic Blade, and Ryu's charge trigger just being turned into a binary state was a fantastic touch
It always feels weird to say that SFV is my favorite fighting game of all time, but it is. It's the game that really turned me into a good fighting game player.
25:20 I’m not an animation expert, BUT I am a martial artist going on 20 years of training and learning and I can still explain why this sucks; her stances are all wrong. Like no duh no body fights in sf character stances for the most part they’re obviously there for gameplay clarity, but the devs do a great job typically of covering that up by still having strong stances during the animations. Think Ryu’s donkey kick or Alex’s 3s HP, or sagat spinning roundhouse kick. They all have a solid follow through and the stances generate power. Especially the Alex example, you see that punch and the animation sells him turning into the punch to deliver a really mean hook. Sakura meanwhile is RIGID AND STIFF ON EVERYTHING. She’s not generating any follow through on her attacks. Like try standing straight with your right foot in front of your left by a foot and throwing a straight punch with your right arm and anyone reading this will fully get it. It feels wrong, you’d want to lean in with the punch and have your feet swapped, and you’ll notice that the punch is now a lot more comfortable and natural than before while it also would hurt more. Sakura barely moves on anything she does and her movements are often times super awkward so when you see her doing anything it just looks sloppy and really limp. Which is stupid because Sakura basically didn’t do that at all in 4. Most of her attacks have solid footwork great follow through and follow a natural arc you would have with that attack. It’s like they hired a guy to start animating her who’s new to animation but didn’t feel like looking up any reference materials for how fighting should look because it’s not just bad it’s amateurish.
SFV is probably the most interesting fighting game of all time. The bad launch, the biggest tournament of all time, the input delay, being on ESPN, the rootkit, the red bull sponsorship, season 5, the in-game ads, the partnership with Intel to be at the Olympics... what a roller coaster!
I started playing fighting games with +R, right at the end of 2021, and it was kinda stressful to learn how to pay attention to the screen and react to things when you have so many moving parts that can also change with every character, so it's no surprise I ended up being pretty burned out after a while of stressing myself in match and while labbing. Then I tried SFV, and while it still was stressful at times, I started to slowly learn how to observe my opponent (who was generally at the same skill level as I was) and react accordingly, and then, I fell in love with how this communication works, with how you can say to another person "I know what you're doing" and they can also say that to you, just by how they act in game. Now, I still can get stressed at times, but even then I have fun, I can laugh about what happened and still learn one thing or another about mine or other characters. When I reached my goal in SFV (reaching ultra silver, I know it's a minor achievement, but it's something I did), I went back to +R with this different mindset and fell in love with the game too! Now I'm trying to get some time free to improve more in SFV. So yeah, for helping me to really get into fighting games, SFV will have that little special place with me. (P.S. Your videos also helped me a lot during this journey, as it was pretty entertaining and sometimes useful to learn more about anything related to fighting games. Thank you!)
I didn't get into SFV until well after the Champion Edition had already come out, and I absolutely loved it. was kinda shocked to hear that so many people hated it, until I learned of the launch. it kinda made sense to me then, but it doesn't change how I feel about the game
It's not perfect but it was the game that opened my eyes to the genre. I always played sf4 and mkx thinking these games are fun to press buttons in but getting good is just to time consuming. Sfv was the first fighter I attempted to get good in and I'm pretty happy with the results. I started as a measly know nothing bronzie back in season 2 of the game and became a crusty old man hardstuck in diamond before the games final update released. My golden epiphany with this game though was that I understood the basis on how fighters worked. I understood how to take the tools the game gave me and utilize them, system mechanics, frame data and all. It's almost like learning a language and the reward was getting to communicate towards a broader audience. Now I can play sf4, sf3, mk11, Ggxrd, ggs at a moderate level and enjoy myself.
The Red Fireball is also another KoF reference which Dan is of course made of, this time to Shingo Yabuki's Critical Hits which are similar randomly improved specials that surprise the shit out of him. Really one of the all time best "nerf that is actually a buff" of all time
I used to be really defensive of my love of SFV and I couldn’t really find the words as to why I did, but I think this video helped me to find it. When you were talking about how watching the game was so much fun because you could see pros do things and then do them yourself, I really felt that same connection because that’s how I learned everything I know about all fighting games. SFV is my first Street Fighter game and I’ve only been playing fighting games for like 3 or 4 years total, so it was super neat stumbling into the end of a game that I genuinely loved. I’ve only played street fighter since Oro came out, so I guess I don’t really have the full experience, but the last few months of this game have been the most fun I’ve had in the FGC since I started playing Tekken 7 in 2017-2018.
I don't play, but my son does and it really tickles me to learn more so I can understand what the heck hes on about. Now I wanna play with old man turtle Oro...he looks damn interesting. Thanks for such a fun and interesting take on the game
I love it too. Genuinely love crush counters. Genuinely love all the tense moments where you're guessing in the corner. Genuinely love getting rolled by scammy characters. Genuinely love cc someones bad tech and getting a fat punish. Genuinely love that you can feel the panic of your opponent more in this game than any other game I've played.
As a longtime SF fan and one of the many people that dis'ed SFV, Oro legitimately made this game for me. Wish he was there sooner or that he makes it into 6, but I am eternally grateful that he made it to 5 and was so fun to play. Great video!
That Red Fireball rant was aces! It really is just that elegant haha I feel the same way about Pokken as you do about SFV. It's the only fighting game I can just watch endlessly. The phase changes add such a dynamic feel for me, and I have that same feeling of "Oh I didn't know X - that looks cool!" and then actually be able to lab it out!
Im really glad they reduced the skill barrier on SFV, because it allowed me to get into other games like SF4 and learn their harder stuff (I main evil ryu and do stomp loops, i love it so much). I was able to grind and practice enough to get to diamond, and have sinced played all manner of fighting games under the sun. Its a fantastic game in the final state that it ended in and im so happy it turned out the way it did
Amazing video as always! I have always loved SFV, it is the first fighting game i genuinely wanted to get good as well. I think i played very little when it came out and took a break until season 2 in which a random person from a random facebook group wanted to play with me. We played a shit ton together and got better at the game together as well. I even went to their home and played locally once. Sadly they passed away because of covid approximately 2 years ago. I want to thank them for spending their precious time with me. I will never ever forget you my friend.
I feel so relieved to find someone else who's not ashamed to admit that they genuinely love the game. Sometimes I feel like it's just cool to hate on it for no reason
I LOVE that you talked about the danfinite so much, I absolutely LOVE the way they handled nerfing that and it’s one of my favorite changes in any fighting game Absolute banger video
@BigYellowSilly Means a lot to read that! And this was a great video. I was an SFV hater for 5 years, but with season 5, they got me in, and this time it stuck. I'm pretty sure I'm an SF fan for life now.
Person who doesn't play or even like fighting games, watches this man consistently upload in depth technical deconstructions of fighting games I don't like or play. Awwww Yissss
Mark of a good video: Ive never been competitive in a fighting game in my life, but your vids make me wanna play around and try at one. Keep up the good work!
16:42 dude. this has been my exact, specific gripe for YEARS with fighting games that lack input buffer. people make fun of me or call me scrubby for it, but i just CANNOT stand the fact that some setup or some combo could have a counter that i immediately think of and is super obvious conceptually, but then i try it and it doesnt work.. but im just left to think to myself "is this actually not the correct counter, or am i not getting some sort of 1 or 2 frame timing??" and i end up trying the setup and failing like 10 times just to see if i can get it on accident. it's one of those scenarios where i feel like im fighting the game instead of the enemy. extremely detailed frame data in training mode remedies this to a reasonable degree, to be fair. feeling like a combo or setup is some esoteric eldritch knowledge unless i know the exact specific data is just kinda lame
ive never played a fighting game past platform fighters and after binging all of your content i’m happy i picked up sf4 for the 3ds before the eshop died. i’m so confused but it’s cool. thanks, yellow!
With SFV being my first fighting game, I always felt a bit sad seeing people shit on it - me being a semi-seasoned fighting game player now who’s not a fan of modern controls in 6, I totally get it now in retrospect but still makes me kinda sad. Maybe it’s because of the particular time in my life I started playing this game but I just feel such a deep connection to it. Hearing songs like the arcade edition theme, fang’s theme, alex’ theme or zeku’s theme legit brings a tear to my eye nowadays. Another thing that I really like about it is the art style and just the whole vibe it brings to the table - out of all the Street Fighter games, I think V succeeds the most at getting the whole “fighting all over the world with a culturally diverse roster of fighters” vibe that was SF’s whole M.O. since the start, and it being so colorful just reinforces that (was really sad seeing how gray and drab 6 is in comparison when the reveal trailer dropped). I get that Ken is really ugly but imo the game looks amazing and as it went on, they definitely nailed the style by the end. Anyhow, I’m glad to see I’m not alone in liking the game so much.
i really appreciate this video, it's hard to get a balanced view of this game because so many people seem so dead set on hating it, i knew a lot about the negatives but not much about the positives, so this video was great. also you look very cute here.
i understand... i hate-love that game. it's the first fighting game i actually managed to get my buddies to play with me and it became our group's main common hobby outside RPG sessions. it has... lots of things i hate, but it still is a fun game in the end. btw, completely unrelated but that's a neat look you have right there
The biggest thing that makes me love SFV is that so many of the newcomers feel really cool or unique in a good way. A lot of people don't like FANG but I'm always partial to wacky reset shenanigan characters. Menat is extremely fun and cool to watch even if her VT1 makes me want to jump off a cliff when I'm on the receiving end. Nash is just an aggressive Guile with super-speed or whatever the lore is and I think that's neat Abigail's design is stupid but in terms of gameplay he's extremely enjoyable and has the most fun move in the game, that being if course VS2. Rashid is a favorite and for good reason he's extremely sick Zeku is amazing, a stance character that changes age and has a little animal buddy along with some of the cleanest animations in all of Street Fighter And above all the others, G is the best fighting game character of the past 10 years. One of the most unique styles of gameplay I've ever seen, constantly leveling yourself up through each round with the swankiest moves that feel like constantly styling on your opponent. Match that all with G's incredibly charismatic personality and you get an 11/10 character. It's not all winners, like I think Ed and Falke are kinda lame and I straight up just don't like Luara or Necalli but when SFV makes a good character, they make a *GOOD* character.
I've only really gotten into SFV recently and I'm having a blast. I had this preconceived notion that SFV was a very honest, footsie based game with very traditional mechanics but what I've discovered goes against all of that - but in the best of ways. It's not just shimmys and cross ups (though silver Ryu's and Ken's would tell you differently). This game is full to the brim with everything that makes a fighting game great. My only regret is that I didn't get into it sooner.
SFV is one of those games where I've always loved and appreciated it for what it is but at the same time when people complain about it I'm like "yep, that's absolutely fair". I think it helps that I've absolutely loved every character I've played (Urien, Gill, Oro) It's refreshing to see people kind of unanimously excited for SF6 though. (also love the sweater queen
Hating on SFV is the new equivalent of people making "Street Fighter: SUPER HYPER CHICKEN CHOKER RAINBOW FIGHTING - FT. John Cena. Griddy Edition" jokes. The more invested fans are like "Come on people. It's not that bad." and more casual fans are like "But, are we wrong?". The people defending it has to be like "...No...But, if you let me explain-!!...no you're not wrong..."
@@zanpakutoman4225 its the most annoying fighting game I've ever played. Hyper aggressive, unreactable dashes, highly committal Fullscreen/half screen moves that punish fireballs on almost every character, defensive options that are too risky for not that much reward, bullsht comeback mechanics, ugly art direction ECT. This game has tons of things that I'd consider bad fighting game design.
@@zanpakutoman4225 Allot of the people that hate SFV as a personality had no vested interest in the game because they dropped in during season 1. Literally had a run in with someone like this on Reddit.
Wow what a love letter to SFV. I love this game too and thanks for this vid. Its funny cause this was the main SF game for my duration of college. I wanted to get good at it seriously too. When game launched I went with Bison because the was the only character I kind of wanted to learn. That was the first ever charge character I learned and I remember back then thinking I didn't want to play a charge character. I'm glad I put the time in though because he taught me you can do it if you out in the effort. I came back when Kage was announced because he's my favorite edgelord just to mess around a bit. I actually started playing a bit of ranked with him. I had gotten better at other fighters since then and could actually do more combos and confirms than when I last touched the game. Then I finally came back after getting into more SFV content creators and oh man did I truly come to realize what an awesome game this is. I finally committed hard to learned Zeku. That character has taught me so much about fighting games I don't even know where to start. It was such a commitment to learning two characters essentially, but it was so rewarding. He really in the character for me in how cool he is and his swiss army knife gameplay. He really was a character I believed in and grew with. I think I'm better at dissecting any other fighting game I ever pick up from this point on because of my time spent in the lab, ranked, and locals playing Zeku. Its been great to watch this game grow over time. You just feel like a proud Dad knowing how far its come top be such a sick game.
I genuinely love SFV too. I think it’s come a long way and it was a stepping stone for SF6 which seems to be very a good game and headed in the right direction. It’s also just fun, and it has a cool cast of characters. All I need, really.
If you're ranked Platinum, you are very good at the game. The average SF5 player is Bronze and Super Bronze. Even being Gold places you in the 90th Percentile/top 10%. Platinum? Top 5%. This is a friendly message to all of us in the FGC: don't downplay your hard work and skills! Don't use professional players, who play these games for money, as the point of comparison on if you're good at the game or not.
I’m so glad you mentioned how fun SFV is to watch. I first reconnected with Street Fighter watching WNF SF4 tourneys but SFV is just *chef’s kiss* with its clarity. Oh, and absolutely top tier animation - even their worst characters are better animated than many others’ best. I actually really appreciated the simplicity of old SFV but even with all the extra options and new combo routes, there’s still a Blanka or Alex or Ed to help out a scrub like me to have fun and do damage without needing to learn super difficult combos.
Great video. I too love the game and always had fun with it, even at its lowest (Hello, season 2). I was a big fighting game fan growing up, but I didn't like 4 and i kinda fell out of love with the genre. 5 brought me back, so i'm forever thankful
I started playing street fighter V in season 5 right after Dan was released. SFV Is my very first traditional fighting game and I didn’t start really trying to improve until about last month. Right now I’m hardstuck silver and I’m learning the game with Cody and I’m having an absolute blast. I’m a Cody one trick but I plan to pick up more characters as I improve. I want to hit gold before SF6 releases. I’m not sure if I can say I love it just yet but I do love playing Cody and I do really enjoy the game. I really do want to get better at the game and fighting games in general. I played a bit of guilty gear strive and even though I’m extremely mashy in that game (I’m kinda mashy in fighting games in general) I absolutely love it. But this is the game that introduced me to fighting games (not counting smash) and got me fully invested into street fighter as a franchise.
Under Night In-Birth doesn't get enough love. It is a game that French Bread took all the lessons from Melty Blood from and made the game they wanted to make. It has pretty unique characters and some really good game mechanics that a lot of people have found to be answers to some of fighting games' biggest questions. It's biggest downside is that it has no rollback netcode whatsoever.
street fighter v I think doesn't get enough credit for its roster imo, its the only sf game where you can play with every boss character in the series, and it brought back old characters with new moves, character development, connections between the old and new characters, and cool newcomers as well, i honestly like them all. My favorite thing from sfv, is how they brought back Nash as part of the illuminati, and hes a zombie with kof rugal's genocide cutter. I know his story was a wasted opportunity, but hes still a sick character, and my main. sfv was probably the first in the series to try some other features as well, some of these features straight up suck or is useless (ads on characters) but i recall they released a trial version of the game for free, and thats how i got into the game few years ago, if it wasnt for that i probably wouldve never tried it, and i bought my first character with fight money, also the first in the series to have all versions as free updates.
Fun fact i bought a ps4 just for sfv and i got my ps5 for sf6 lol. I was there for v since the start so i remeber the trenches lol. The game really has a wild story and im glad it managed to mame a come back
Listening to you talk about this game is like how i feel about MKX. There always felt like there was more to learn and you can implement those things quickly. Also watching the high end gameplay was so cool aswell
SFV ended up not being a game I could personally really get into but I enjoyed the time I spent with it. This is a really cool video. As for an underappreciated game that I like, people meme a lot on Dino Rex for being a bad game (and they're right that it's pretty rough) but I find the way space control plays out in it really neat, in no other game has the corner been scarier and it adds a lot of tension to an otherwise very barebones fighter. It's got a lot of charm graphically too and I really think it could have been a very unique entry if the devs had had more time to polish it up.
Love the nails! A fighter I've been enjoying the hell out of for the past 3 years just got a shoutout from Arcsys' battle director as their game of 2022 (Merfight: Curse of the Arctic Prince) yet I'm still struggling to get folks in the FGC at large to notice. Still chugging along, though. Thanks for the video.
Just found your content, I mega enjoyed this video. Keep it up! Also appreciate the wee segment of gameplay I'm in during the video, I audibly shouted "oh shit thats me" while eating my dinner :)
As a Grandmaster Ryu, I think you’ve got a couple of small things wrong, but you’ve got the right attitude. Watched to the end - and would watch again.
oh boy,oh here we go I got in the game (may I even say the franchise, much more seriously at least) thanks to season 5 and a sfv content creator, and am also aware of the state the game was in at launch. Can say to the title,I do too. I’m glad it is the way it is now and that it managed to attract new players, just like me,and kept them over. Even now I was just messing some stuff in training mode lol. Really excited to watch this almost half hour long video lol,and almost a minute in I’m already seeing some clean edit as well as the point about the game not getting that much inherent love even now soo well yknow, thanks for making this as well haha👍
I’m a big SFV fan that was also insanely critical of the games first 2 years and the subsequent issues that popped up till season V. As the first fighting game I took really seriously I recognize it’s many flaws but felt that even back during season 3 the game was good. It lacked in areas that SF6 is making up for. I’m glad SFV happened because it really showed me how much I love SF and fighting games in general. Fantastic video!
Totally respect this video, just think it's cool that this game clicked for you so much. I personally haven't been a big fighting game player; aside from Smash, I think I've only played Soul Calibur 3 and Persona 4 Arena, the latter really not clicking and the former only getting a lot of play time because I'm a solo moder and Chronicles of the Sword exists. And even then I never stuck with a run to the end. However, I have been feeling like trying out a Guilty Gear game recently, probably gonna start by emulating one of the earlier ones. Hopefully something clicks somewhere, since now I actually kinda give a crap.
The Ed player whose PS4 is slowly cooking under the Italian sun came completely out of nowhere but hit way too close to home, in every possible way XD Also, since you ended the video by basically giving me permission to promote my favourite fighting game to the world, have you ever taken a look at Blazblue Centralfiction? It has a lot of the same things you love about SFV (very flexible combos, rewards players for experimenting with weird confirms and combines input leniency with high situational awareness). At the same time, it shares a lot of the DNA of Guilty Gear, and seeing how you play both +R and Strive that may be a good thing for you. I'd personally recommend you start by taking a look at Azrael; he's a big body who hits like a truck and has unbelievably flashy combos that are mechanically simple, but feature a ton of variation based on starters, screen position and spacing. I think you'd like him a lot!
Italian Eds are the EU equivilant to Brazilian Kens I swear, also I've never played a Blazblue game, but I really should given how many good things I've heard about it
Big Yellow knew he had to continue the video after the "I geniunly love SFV" line somehow, he was blocked and considered scrapping the video due to writer's block, but then Oro came down from the heavens blessed Big Y with the knowledge necessary to push and make a masterpiece...and some small turtle facts as bonus. Joke's aside, the 'fighting game' that clicked with me and opened my doors to watch and understand fighting games is DBFZ. Yeah I get a lot of shit for liking it, but damn, as a DB lover, playing and spectating the matches are such a threat. Thanks to it I could branch to other Fighting games and both understand and play them with others! It's the best in my heart 💖
I'm not super super into any Street Fighter games, but I do have an appreciation for the franchise and I think SFV might be my favourite overall. It feels nice, it looks nice, it has a bunch of characters I like... it has _Seth..._ Seth is so fucking cool in this game. Seth has Kirby Suck. Seth is like, interesting, unlike their previous appearance. Seth is hot. I love Seth.
I played at launch up until a few months after Abigail released. I kinda wished I stuck with it but the initial release did kill my hype for it compared to 4's release and later editions. It did genuinely look like it improved a lot over time after I left so I'm happy for those that did stick with it and enjoyed it.
I personally loved SFV since Alex dropped, but the constant improvements through out the years made it my second favorite Street Fighter title. I made so many memories with this game and I’m looking forward to SF6. Great video!
BASED. For me it's the game that keeps me coming back. I've played more mechanically in depth games that pple recommend like Xrd and accent core but they don't hit the same way for me like SFV
I haven’t labbed sfv in a long time but I remember really wanting to setup a meaty tackle with Lucia and it turned into the discovery that I could trade combo with slide and throw reset
Besides Skullgirls, SF V was the second fighting game that i got into, i started playing with E. Honda until he wasn't working on Gold rank, but then i discovered Abigail and i found playing with him very fun, i reached ultra gold with him, i think Abigail is the part of SF V that i like the most
I was a big SFV defender back in season 1 and 2 (more so that it wasn't that bad and less so that it didn't have faults) and while I haven't played the game since around when Luke dropped, I still have so much love for the game as it was the first FG I took seriously (even bought my first stick to learn it) and I can't wait to watch Capcom Cup. It'll be a really nice closing on this chapter of SF. Great video btw!
One thing I really love is the special free juggle state on certain options (Oro/Kolin Double Jump, Ibuki/FANG Fly, Wall Jumps, Dhalsim Float, etc). I so rarely see it, but if you know when to look for it, you can get some pretty wild stuff
I never got why crush counter is so contentious, I actually think it's a really cool mechanic! SF5 as a whole is my second favorite SF behind Ultra 4. One thing that definitely makes it such is how incredible the roster is. This is one of the only games where I've had a crisis picking my main. I'm still stuck between Alex and Mika, and in the past I've mained Birdie, Laura and Abigail.
Crush counters (and SF6 Punish Counters) was a really good way to tell players: Hey, here is your chance to land a bigger combo, I don't get it why it was so maligned. Then again, SFV was maligned for absolutely everything at some point. Some of it deserved, some of it was unwarranted
i think it was mainly the fact that the crush counter property was sometimes given to some heavy normals which were difficult to contest in neutral and the crush counter property leading to easy confirm (random example urien on release slap chopping it up); in previous sf games these type of normals, while still being oppressive, usually did not lead into anything but now they were also incredibly rewarding (and they also happened to beat out the L/M normals on trades due to the priority system but that's just an additional bonus) (edit: later balance changes made these moves have longer whiff recovery and lead to less dmg on cc generally, i think)
"I love Oro. I could gush about the character all day..."
*cuts to a shot of Poison's ass*
"...which is why I'm a Poison player."
Former Balrog player who loves watching Oro.
It wasn’t a question of “If Brian_F?”, but rather “When Brian_F?”.
You sir have earned my respect when you said Oro is the crown jewel of SF5. People fail to understand how great of a character he is. His design, the way he looks, the way he fights, his combos.. everything about him is amazing. Such an underrated character.
Fully agree

True, however, Dan Hibiki.

Yellow your hair is so good in this video. Like wtf it stood out immediately to me it's so pretty
Ty it's because playing SFV so much set a great example for me of how not to do hair
@@BigYellowSillylmao so true
the "this fighting game is fun to watch cuz i know it well" is something i can heavily relate to. watching a pro player who plays your main do something you recognize as incredibly sick BECAUSE you play that character is one of the best fighting game experiences ever. when i used to play axl in strive id watch pro axl players do sick instant axl bomber combos and i was always impressed because i knew how tricky those were to execute
Tbh, i hate to say it, but SF4 is a bit worse than SFV, at least from a perspective of where those two ended in terms of balance.
That was wild yeah
@@gspandem1204 I agree that the balance is worse in sf4 but the gameplay overall is so much better and allows for more freedom.
@@Gramasz this is like saying 3rd strike sucks because SF4 didn't bring back parry, you can not like the game but this ain't it
This is honestly such a fantastic love letter, man. I feel like you did a really bang-up job of honing in on exactly where the juice is for you.
Wait, “bang-up” is a bad thing in the UK, isn’t it.
“Cracking job,” then. I update my expression to “cracking job.”
I love seeing my favorite creators just talk about things they love like this. My favorite genre of video right now. It's infectious. Great work.
Bring that ass in to sf6 boy
If you want to get into them, I think Dragonball FighterZ is a great first pick with the only problem being the absolute barrage of season passes and DLC characters making the full game very expensive. But if you see it in a sale, go for it, it's great
Tekken is a long lasting, great game to get into. I'd say you should get into that since there's a lot of content to explore and there's many, many ways to play certain characters.
If you want a recommendation I’d say kof15. Terry bogards there and it’s pretty easy for a beginner to learn how to play.
SFV is really cool in that the final patch the game got made it unquestionably the best version of the game in its history. It’s incredible how Capcom turned an absolute dumpster fire into a fantastic main line game with years of dedication
With that amount of foresight, I have no doubt in my mind that Capcom will nail SF6’s launch. If they did this well turning SFV into a great game, SF6 can only go up from here
Hell yeah I love a new video from my favorite LegoPokeFGCtuber
Don't forget, their also at least a third rate Insaniquarium influencer.

It has Oro and Mika. I like those two characters.
I loved when street fighter said "you belong to the streets" then street fighted all over the place
16:03 you hit a sakura combo that i've never seen in my life. good stuff
Probably not practical at all but I felt VERY cool
Can we talk about how SFV is the game that became a gigantic glow up? And how it went from genuine dog shit to one of the best of the series? It's kind of impressive how much Capcom pulled it from the depths.
Netcode still sucks tho

I'm glad to see people show genuine love for the game. It's a good game which brought us memories and I'm sad to see it go away.
7:40 "which is why im a poison player" TRANS RIGHTS BABY WOOOO
Ok
It really is just that elegant haha
I feel the same way about Pokken as you do about SFV.
Sometimes I feel like it's just cool to hate on it for no reason
never really got into sfv but Seth’s design always pulls me towards it. that evil smile it has is just… so primo
I LOVE that you talked about the danfinite so much, I absolutely LOVE the way they handled nerfing that and it’s one of my favorite changes in any fighting game

I'm very glad you do cause I really like watching your Falke ngl
@BigYellowSilly Means a lot to read that! And this was a great video. I was an SFV hater for 5 years, but with season 5, they got me in, and this time it stuck. I'm pretty sure I'm an SF fan for life now.

The editing was really enjoyable in this video. Great stuff Yellow.
Thank you for making me appreciate Dan's red fireball even more than I already did
ive never played a fighting game past platform fighters and after binging all of your content i’m happy i picked up sf4 for the 3ds before the eshop died. i’m so confused but it’s cool. thanks, yellow!
7:00 YEEEA HERE WE GO!!!-THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!! ORO MAIN DAY ONE HERE!!!🙌😁
i understand... i hate-love that game. it's the first fighting game i actually managed to get my buddies to play with me and it became our group's main common hobby outside RPG sessions. it has... lots of things i hate, but it still is a fun game in the end.
btw, completely unrelated but that's a neat look you have right there
I forgot you used to make fighting game content, it's nice to come back to that
The biggest thing that makes me love SFV is that so many of the newcomers feel really cool or unique in a good way.
A lot of people don't like FANG but I'm always partial to wacky reset shenanigan characters.
Menat is extremely fun and cool to watch even if her VT1 makes me want to jump off a cliff when I'm on the receiving end.
Nash is just an aggressive Guile with super-speed or whatever the lore is and I think that's neat
Abigail's design is stupid but in terms of gameplay he's extremely enjoyable and has the most fun move in the game, that being if course VS2.
Rashid is a favorite and for good reason he's extremely sick
Zeku is amazing, a stance character that changes age and has a little animal buddy along with some of the cleanest animations in all of Street Fighter
And above all the others, G is the best fighting game character of the past 10 years.
This is a very good point I at least liked nearly every SFV newcomer
I think it helps that I've absolutely loved every character I've played (Urien, Gill, Oro)
It's refreshing to see people kind of unanimously excited for SF6 though.

You just feel like a proud Dad knowing how far its come top be such a sick game.
ok neverminded you speak passionately about this game now i feel bad
You are speaking from inside my head! I love watching and playing SFV. Great video.
Another great video. It’s always fun watching you gush about shit you enjoy. Or what you don’t :3
Dan actually made me buy street fighter 5 best dlc character imo
Really glad you enjoyed! I didn't really mention him here but Cody is another character I really enjoy, so watching your sets is always fun!
As a Grandmaster Ryu, I think you’ve got a couple of small things wrong, but you’ve got the right attitude.
Watched to the end - and would watch again.
oh boy,oh here we go
I got in the game (may I even say the franchise, much more seriously at least) thanks to season 5 and a sfv content creator, and am also aware of the state the game was in at launch.
The Ed player whose PS4 is slowly cooking under the Italian sun came completely out of nowhere but hit way too close to home, in every possible way XD
Also, since you ended the video by basically giving me permission to promote my favourite fighting game to the world, have you ever taken a look at Blazblue Centralfiction?
It has a lot of the same things you love about SFV (very flexible combos, rewards players for experimenting with weird confirms and combines input leniency with high situational awareness). At the same time, it shares a lot of the DNA of Guilty Gear, and seeing how you play both +R and Strive that may be a good thing for you.
I'd personally recommend you start by taking a look at Azrael; he's a big body who hits like a truck and has unbelievably flashy combos that are mechanically simple, but feature a ton of variation based on starters, screen position and spacing. I think you'd like him a lot!
Italian Eds are the EU equivilant to Brazilian Kens I swear, also I've never played a Blazblue game, but I really should given how many good things I've heard about it
The game has a super that gives power to the ass
10/10
Edit: I now desperately want the sweater you have
Big Yellow knew he had to continue the video after the "I geniunly love SFV" line somehow, he was blocked and considered scrapping the video due to writer's block, but then Oro came down from the heavens blessed Big Y with the knowledge necessary to push and make a masterpiece...and some small turtle facts as bonus.
0:36 ah! ah! you said it! you said it.
I'm not super super into any Street Fighter games, but I do have an appreciation for the franchise and I think SFV might be my favourite overall. It feels nice, it looks nice, it has a bunch of characters I like... it has _Seth..._
Seth is so fucking cool in this game. Seth has Kirby Suck. Seth is like, interesting, unlike their previous appearance. Seth is hot. I love Seth.
What I love is the editing in this video, 10/10🎉
Whenever you play SF5, don't have the other Street Fighter games in mind.
I might not like v much, but I like seeing anyone put their love for a game out there like this :)
I played at launch up until a few months after Abigail released. I kinda wished I stuck with it but the initial release did kill my hype for it compared to 4's release and later editions. It did genuinely look like it improved a lot over time after I left so I'm happy for those that did stick with it and enjoyed it.
Microwalks are a great way that games with buffer can add execution; because you can't buffer them
I personally loved SFV since Alex dropped, but the constant improvements through out the years made it my second favorite Street Fighter title. I made so many memories with this game and I’m looking forward to SF6. Great video!
That casual match idea at the end is really smart. Hope they put that idea in future SF games.
Love your vídeos they feel so fresh and variated, I use to watch them with a few friends. Greetings from Spain!! 🫂
BASED. For me it's the game that keeps me coming back. I've played more mechanically in depth games that pple recommend like Xrd and accent core but they don't hit the same way for me like SFV
I brought the game for 8.99 all dlc in everything. The game is amazing people still playing it online even tho 6 is out
I haven’t labbed sfv in a long time but I remember really wanting to setup a meaty tackle with Lucia and it turned into the discovery that I could trade combo with slide and throw reset
This video makes me feel so validated. Especially the section about the execution
I've never cared about SFV, nor street fighter in general, but I love watching your vids and now I do care about SFV
Besides Skullgirls, SF V was the second fighting game that i got into, i started playing with E. Honda until he wasn't working on Gold rank, but then i discovered Abigail and i found playing with him very fun, i reached ultra gold with him, i think Abigail is the part of SF V that i like the most
Abigail is super fun, I'm glad people have very slowly warmed up to him
I was a big SFV defender back in season 1 and 2 (more so that it wasn't that bad and less so that it didn't have faults) and while I haven't played the game since around when Luke dropped, I still have so much love for the game as it was the first FG I took seriously (even bought my first stick to learn it) and I can't wait to watch Capcom Cup.
I've seen it in tournament a few times specifically with people baiting Sim teleport, always awesome to see
I never got why crush counter is so contentious, I actually think it's a really cool mechanic!
Some of it deserved, some of it was unwarranted
i think it was mainly the fact that the crush counter property was sometimes given to some heavy normals which were difficult to contest in neutral and the crush counter property leading to easy confirm (random example urien on release slap chopping it up); in previous sf games these type of normals, while still being oppressive, usually did not lead into anything but now they were also incredibly rewarding (and they also happened to beat out the L/M normals on trades due to the priority system but that's just an additional bonus)
(edit: later balance changes made these moves have longer whiff recovery and lead to less dmg on cc generally, i think)
"Who is going to say they love Street Fighter V?"
It's me. I genuinely love Street Fighter V. The best Chun-li ever.
