First did this flight BA 286/287 in August 1986 and many times since always on BA brings back a lot of memories a beautiful city to vist, thanks for posting.
Many people are lucky to see it in person though, since this is a regularly scheduled very heavy flight (nowadays gets the A380 regularly) and SFO is pretty busy. But nice footage indeed.
Loved it!!! I think BA is still one of the best. Incredible video, great angle, great sense of timing and great camera work. You rock man. -- from an An aviation nut!
2012年5月25日发布 Airline: American Airlines Flight: AA741 Aircraft: Boeing 737-823 (N861NN) Route: San Francisco (SFO) - Los Angeles (LAX) Seat: 21A (Economy) Flight Time: 54 minutes Departed: 16:02PM PDT - Runway 28L Arrived: 16:56PM PDT - Runway 24R Routing: KSFO PORTE3 AVE SADDE6 KLAX My next flight of my trip to California, aboard N861NN flying AA741 from SFO-LAX. A 737-800 series with only a year in service. Today's service was slightly delayed due to 30 knot winds at SFO. My first experience with AA and I found it a pleasure. I quite liked the drop down screens telling you anything you didn't want to know rather than having cabin crew do it - feels slightly less intrusive! Flew the downwind at LAX past Hollywood and Downtown before turning for finals with 24R. Notice the ANZ "All Blacks" 777 when on short finals - a regular at LAX. Enjoy the video - some fantastic engine start noises!!
watching this brought back memories of the flights I used to take between LHW and SFO. That flight is too long for me; hour after hour in that plane. I was always so glad when that 10 hour flight was over.
same here. I wnt to London in '95 I remember on the way back to SF our flight was delayed taking off because the originally scheduled pilot couldn't make it so they called the on-call pilot who was at home at the time working on his roof.
I flew this route 2 years ago with BA but flight number was BA285. Great experience and so much more comfy than their 777-236ER I flew back from San Diego on!!
Those are actually PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) lights. VASI has been phased out as PAPI provides a visual indication to a lower height. T-VASIS is also used but has a different layout and their indications differ slightly.
Of course you can understand them. ATC instructions are nearly the same in the different flight phases. So you know what should come next and you can logically think about what he said. And the most important instruction is always on the end like: " ... a 747, 2 miles final, wind 260/10, 13R CLEARED TO LAND". So the pilot knows there is a 747 on short final and he is cleared to land. And that's the same with all instructions.
Actually the ATC tells the pilot that he has been cleared for takeoff. If you see the yellow signs along the taxiways with Monitor 222.233 that is the channel for departures. When you hear those two chimes and "Cabin Attendants Please Prepare for Takeoff" the ATC told the Pilot "BA 222 You have been cleared for takeoff on Runway 24 Right" The four bells means the ATC told the pilot 30 seconds to takeoff. enter the runway into position
Because heathrow is so busy, at peak times they use something called 'gear up procedure' which is when as soon as a departing a/c has got his gear up, they next one will be cleared for takeoff, this only happens when a/c are on different SIDS to prevent severe wake turbelence, that's why you think your 2nd in a queue but turned out to be 4th or something - it's quicker in the long run.
If you get a globe and a piece of thread, and make a line between London and San Francisco, you will see that they are going the shortest route (a straight line).
It looks like the captains windsheld has been moded. FTO side has rivits and the captains does not.. in the start of the vid when zoom on the flight deck from the gate ....
First of all, great vid!! Jut wondered though.. (I'm certainly no expert), but the take off happens approx 1 minute behind the Delta AC (couldn't see a gap in the editing). What are the rules about wake turbulence? Thought they had to wait for longer before they can begin take off roll? Or would that only apply to smaller aircraft? anyone shed on light on that? cheers. Read wikipedia, but am no wiser! :o)
Ha yes indeed if you fly towards the south east you should have a good view of it from the aircraft - but we turned hdg 360 on this flight so had no chance :)
First of all ... turbulence .... is nothing to be frightened of. It's usually very light, and only lasts a few minutes. The crews fly through this very often, and it's never a problem. And you are far more likely to be killed on your way to the airport, than you are travelling in the air. They let anyone drive cars, but pilots are trained for years.
I notice a lot of trans-atlantic flights fly north from heathrow to Greenland into Canada then into the US. Why is this? Why not just fly more towards the US instead of going into this awkward path. Wouldn't this make the flight shorter as well?
I went to San Fran from Heathrow on a BA 747 nearly four years ago! Such an amazing plane, flight, airport(s), cities, and holiday :)

I like the fact that when you go to 14:36 all you can see taxing is British Airways and great video!
Fantastic B747 approach video clip into San Fran Runway 28, a collector's item this video clip.
Many people are lucky to see it in person though, since this is a regularly scheduled very heavy flight (nowadays gets the A380 regularly) and SFO is pretty busy. But nice footage indeed.
Such a unique sound for a large airplane
0:28:20 - "Here comes the Sun."
Great video, aircraftspotting.

i always love the sound of the engine opening up, nice catch on this video

Great video! RIP BA 747 ✈️
I all ways wish to travel with British airways.

Class video imagine going out for a few pints with de people who came up wit how ailerons operate .I love it.
That Virgin Atlantic rotating, mesmerizing!

Great video! Synced the ATC quite well.
Oh my god! Great video!! Maybe Im going to go to SFO next summer, i live in seville, spain

Best takeoff video ive watched! the perfect about of film
Looks like this thing is pushing the weight limits. Extremely long takeoff roll and slow climb, love it.
Don't they sometimes burn some of the fuel before they climb to higher altitudes?
@@anthonyboarman3833 yeah often times those really heavy flights step the climb.
You have yourself a new subscriber. Fantastic!
Awesome vid! really smooth landing. Thanks for uploading
Brilliant video amongst the best on youtube
thank you so much :) I know it sounds stupid but that really helps a lot, you have given me a lot of confidence about flying.
I LOVE THESE LONG FLIGHT VIDEOS!!!!!
Nice view of the wing, ailerons and condensate at takeoff.
I love this site. keep it coming . wood like more cockpit video.
I absolutely loved it. Thank you for sharing.
Nice that you were able to get atc too..
Great video!
Great video by the way!
Nice upload!!!!!
that's the best way to leave London - on a BA 747 on a slow climber

Liked, and Subscribed! Great video! Thanks for uploading! :D
Was on this exact flight in June of last year with some school friends for a tour of SW USA. Pretty sure I had the same seat as well

Excellent video!
Perfect clear sound
Amazing video!! makes me feel like im on the plane, keep it up!
Very nice Video :)
Awesome experience, thank you for this!
what a beautiful and smooth landing.. wow
Excellent thank you! Spread the word! Heaps more videos to come
Enjoyed that, thank you.
What a view!
Perfect landing
beautiful landing !
That was a very wet day. I flew abroad the next day and it so much nicer there.
i luv taking off in a rainy weather
can someone find the words to say how cool this is
Oh SUNNY CALIFORNIA :D
Rainy London.
Do you travel alot just to film theese flights? If you do: Much appriciated! :)
@neilp65 at heathrow because of the amount of traffic after takeoff the planes turn to allow the next one to take of. Then they follow their route.
If you get a globe and a piece of thread, and make a line between London and San Francisco, you will see that they are going the shortest route (a straight line).
was really surprised when I found out that these cockpit windows can actually open. 😯
Thanks! I unfortunately don't go past Thorpe Park I come the other way :)
So nice
When that Virgin 747 took of, wow
Great video! Is it just me or is the PA system on this aircraft way too quiet?
400 th LIKE :D great video :)
It looks like the captains windsheld has been moded. FTO side has rivits and the captains does not.. in the start of the vid when zoom on the flight deck from the gate ....
Flight in between the two GREATEST CITIES in the world! San Francisco and London!
What's not to love? :-P
such quiet engines!
Thanks, many more to come + 2 more flights. Spread the word!

15:00 - Such a nervous but epic moment!!

wish you would have shown the flaps extending after push back
You was holding the camera the whole time? Thats pretty authistic.
Josh Davies oh im german and have a life sorry
The irony that emanates from this comment is hilarious! German and have a life?
Mick Duly oh yes please explain yourself and make a fool out of yourself.
Explain myself to you? 😂😂😂
14:31 Takeoff (Save you time)
42:13 Landing (save you TONS of time)
Thanks
How did you manage to get the ATC too? Is there a designated channel to listen on BA entertainment system like Channel 9 on United?

No problem ;) If there is anything specific you want to know, pm me!
I was hoping for engine roar but they sound rather quiet in the video :(
Heathrow - San Francisco 1hr??!?!?!!?
I notice a lot of trans-atlantic flights fly north from heathrow to Greenland into Canada then into the US. Why is this? Why not just fly more towards the US instead of going into this awkward path. Wouldn't this make the flight shorter as well?
Iv booked 36A to Seattle, were you mid J or high J confiig?
Many thanks
Why it had full flaps for takeoff? It was rotating for longer than usual.
I know i am wrong but at 14:10 when the ATC says taxi via Alpha Foxtrot to 01L, I am confused cause doesn't F lead to 28L?
Saved by LiveATC. If only BA had channel 9!!
What ATC??? I don't hear no ATC!!!!!!!
was the flight packed to full
VERY SMOOTH LANDING
Pilots are trained before allowed to take Passangers into the sky
What are those red lights on the side of the runway?
It annoys me that you leave in the entire taxiing period but cut out things like flaps/spoilers being extended
+h snow Sometimes these portions of the flight aren't filmed and can be for a number of reasons
Is this aircraft fleet still in service or not.
What type of camera/camcorder did you use?
I love the 747-400 so sad she is leaving us. :(
How come we could hear the guy from the tower ??
did you get permission to film the flight from BA?
MTOW perhaps?
BA I´ll fly anytime - Emirates, China Air, Turkish, JAL can kiss me where the sun don´t shine!
they always use the same runways for arrivals and the other 2 for departures
just curious, how do u get the atc tapes for your flight? and then on yr video? can anyone do this? if so, how?
How was that 10 hour flight in coach?
