It's become the 'normal' - I think there's only a selection of people in the world that truly appreciate it! One of the reasons I do these videos - many aren't fortunate enough or old enough to travel the world on aircraft yet, so my goal here is to give other people besides the normal avgeeks watching the experience of that. Flying is a beautiful thing and I always get people to sit by the window if they're traveling. Always get a comment about how amazing it was!
HeathrowSpottingHD On a flight I had the biggest laugh of my life when I was having a conversation with a stranger at the airport. He was saying he was a pilot and he flew for many years and then we both see an A380 taxying past the gate and he points out and says, "That's that 747 with two floors, I flew that for 1 year." I looked at him, excused myself and went to the bathroom to laugh my head off.......I truly believed this guy until he said that load of bull shit, LOL.
United Airlines makes the ATC available as part of the in flight entertainment system, usually Channel 9 on your audio panel. It's at the discretion of the Captain, so it isn't always turned on.
Thank you! No way don't let that put you off. It used to worry me but I listened to ATC, learnt the different terminology and procedures. It comes quick to some people, takes a while for others. Now ATC is my favourite part about flying, I can't wait to talk to London Control in the future :-). Don't worry! You'll learn throughout your PPL. If you use FSX get Vatsim and practice on there. Remember even these professionals mess up, very regularly. No one's perfect at it 100% of the time.
This is the kind of video you wanna watch whilst lying on your bed, watching the takeoff, then take a short nap whilst listening to atc, then wake up when it's approach time
I love the banking turn at around 46 minutes in. The way the sky and the clouds look ... and that lovely reflection of the sun on those broad grey wings. I love the magic of flight ... and these balletic moments that freeze time and invite you to see the world anew .... this is what the mystique of flying in the big jets is all about for me. Thank you for your view and passion. :)
I flew on a B772 to Orlando and back last month. I LOVED listening to the flaps and gear whines. They sound so cool when they make that noise. I also loved watching the flaperons adjust when we were taking off and landing. It was windy when we took of in Gatwick and they were moving like mad to keep the plane balanced. It was awesome. One day I'd like to captain 777s and 747s. "If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going."
Thanks for sharing! Am an auditory person and I love the sounds / noise when the airplane takes off... Allows me to relive my flying experience when I'm on vacation; especially during the times I am grounded. :D Looking forward to see more of these flights! :D
Actually got a bit of acrophobia watching this. Great videos for those rare few of us who've never been on a plane before. Adding ATC is a nice touch. :)
Thank you! No I left the engine sounds like that for a reason, I love all the sounds the 777 makes. If I didn't want the sounds I would have just recorded the ATC with a separate device and synced it up.
Thanks for clarifying my terminology..I was referring to the raked wingtips but my brain fell asleep..and thanks for deciphering the difference in the models..really great videos btw
amazing video! hd, hd sound and i like the concept that the atc recordings are overlapped, its like a full coverage experience! please keep these videos coming! cheers!
+Andre Els it is cool but imagine there was some kind of minor emergency that passengers don't need to know about....everyone would panic! I know I would
Man I wish Air New Zealand and many other airlines had an ATC channel, it really brings a new dynamic to the flight experience. Awesome video though :)
It was very nice from the start to finish. Smooth flight and landig, a perfect take-off. Thanks for sharing this video, it has the story of this flight. Keep doing this great work, and the idea of sound is spectacular also.
This is really cool! Thank you for posting it. I've taken the Triple 7 across the pond from Phoenix on British Airways, and a United 777 to and from Tokyo a couple of times. Beautiful aircraft. I love it.
Great vids, I'm going on holiday next month (only my 3rd flight ever!) so I'm a little bit nervous, your enthusiasm for planes and flying is great to see - makes me feel a bit more relaxed :) .
Great job. Love the ATC linked up. I remember asking a CO Flight Attendant years ago which channel was the cockpit, -she looked at me like I had three heads!
I forgot about the time I got to fly to Vancouver Canada in 2006 when I was a brand-new CFI, along with a customer with his brand new TBM850. He wanted a flight instructor to ride along in case he encountered IMC on the approach into YVR. They told me I was "number one" and I read back "cleared to land" and they corrected me!!!
your just like me. usually when I film takeoff and landing i try to be a discrete as possible. what i do is hold the camera close up to the window and then try to lean most of body to block the camera from people seeing (especially FA's) my of my flights are with AA and they really never seem to give me a problem. great video as always :)
Awesome to know - must be quite a job assembling one of these beauties! In the UK and majority of the world, a clearance to land is when the runway is entirely clear. In the US you use visual approaches - so the clearance you get can be when you're number five on the ILS! It's a landing clearance, not necessarily meaning the runway is clear. Even in GA where I fly (KSNA) - I get a clearance to land when I'm still a few miles out and not number one.
Mainly, you know what you are listening for. As a controller, or a pilot, 99% of what you are told, you are expecting. Whenever something comes out that is unexpected, usually one of the parties has to repeat itself. Professional pilots, especially, fly specific procedures day in and day out. They know exactly what they are supposed to do. It is merely waiting for the callsign and the clearance.
I think I got jetlag watching this video, that's how good it was! I would like to have seen a bit more of the sunset and then sunrise, but still a good video. What would have been nice too was occasionally showing the interior more often and the "Air Show" where you can see where you are. Still, very nice video and outstanding sound! I think I felt my ears popping too on decent! Ha! Great job!
Because they come on automatically to prepare certain systems for certain stages of flight. You see hydraulic pressure is removed from the flaperon then falls by it's own weight, it then gets aerodynamically pushed up then goes back to the 10 degree angle with the flaps. Pressure is normally restored around 80knts and it goes back to the yokes commanded position. It's to prevent fatiguing the actuators (ACES). Also you can hear the hydraulics retracting the landing gear - also flaps on climb.
ATC is exactly what is says, Traffic Control. If there was no ATC at Heathrow or even anywhere then.. well I think you'd look at crashes weekly. I'm a training Pilot and I find ATC exceptionally easy. Mainly because I've been listening to years so ATC for me is second nature. ATC are there to keep you separated from other Aircraft, vector you in for an approach like we did at LHR, lots of things! Safety is the number one priority whilst flying. Without ATC I don't think things could operate.
Cheers! Don't be nervous, it's great fun. Definitely get a window seat, helps put things at ease if you're nervous too. Like if you're in Turbulence you can look out and see it's just cloud, although you can get "Clear Air Turbulence". Plus the views can be breathtaking! Enjoy!
Indeed, we crossed with a lot of BAW & VS traffic. Was pretty interesting when we got to receiving our Oceanic Clearance and hearing everyone else. We practically left LAX minutes after BAW282 which flew next to us throughout most of the flight across the states. It then took a different NAT to us.
For me, it personally just came with practice inside the simulator as well as inside the aircraft during my Private Pilot and Instrument Rating training courses. The challenge I had was when I transferred to ANA in Tokyo after having worked for Air Wisconsin previously, where English isn't a strong point of ATC. Best advice is to know that you only need to repeat key details back, in order to keep your transmission short and concise. So just repeat what needs to be said, and it'll come to you.
Have taken this flight many times; the ATC is worth listening to, although very quiet over Northern Canada...gets busier coming over Iceland, talking to Iceland Center.
Thanks HeathrowSpottingHD for the nice answer...although my approach was not the most polite, I confess. But Jeffman61 almost suggested me to pull a trigger on my head..lol... Life is good! I am enjoying it! Cheers, too!
Excellent feel as if i've just crossed the Atlantic!!!! I live at Hemel Hempstead just north east of the BNN hold makes a change to be up there looking down!!!! Cool.
Wow great video!! It's funny, whenever I fly United and listen to channel 9, I get so angry when the FAs talk. It really seems like they love to hear themselves talk!
Well I hope you get that chance. I flew the 3x3x3 twice and I have to say it's way better than the old layout. It's roomier and the PTV/IFE is way better than the old ones. Have a fun time in LHR and have a safe flight back to the states!
you just get used to it. when I fly as a private pilot with non-pilot passengers they are always amazed at how i understand everything said on the radio. but it truly is second nature to me.
Cheers. Standard acceleration height of 1,000AGL used so flaps weren't down for to long. For the 772 we would've probably had near enough 70% of all three tanks full. The 772/ER can fly just above 7,000nm depending on configuration, weight & routing. Pax wise the cabins were probably 85/90% full, not sure on freight. My guess would be around 220KG maybe, MTOW is 297KG!
I also have to give you credit for having your camcorder rolling before the flight attendants took their seats for take-off. The last time that I tried to film a take-off a very bossy f.a. told me to turn off my camcorder as it violated commercial flying regulations. As if my filming the take-off would cause such a high radio frequency disruption with the pilots flying the jet, (a 767-300) lol!!
I've never understood people who are too grumpy to appreciate the feeling of soaring through the skies.
It's become the 'normal' - I think there's only a selection of people in the world that truly appreciate it! ikr you look at the cabin on takeoff and the people are like oblivious to the beauty of Aviation
on my first flight I instantly wanted to be a pilot
@@misterfaosfx 😨
Belive me i would love to have the flying office in the sky anytime . For me its one of the greatest jobs in the world .
United Airlines makes the ATC available as part of the in flight entertainment system, usually Channel 9 on your audio panel. It's at the discretion of the Captain, so it isn't always turned on.
These airline videos help me sleep. Funny thing, when I'm actually on the plane, I'm too excited to sleep! Thx for this video.
Thank you! No way don't let that put you off. It used to worry me but I listened to ATC, learnt the different terminology and procedures. It comes quick to some people, takes a while for others. Nice video,no boring bits. Thanks for posting. I never get tired of watching these.

Thanks for posting this wonderful video! These airplane vids are my temporary fix while I'm in between my travels.
Thanks for sharing!
Am an auditory person and I love the sounds / noise when the airplane takes off...
Allows me to relive my flying experience when I'm on vacation; especially during the times I am grounded. :D
Looking forward to see more of these flights! :D
What!? Full flight!
You deserve my like...every full flight video well filmed like this does.
That was totally amazing. Thank you for taking the time and making the extra effort to post this film. I almost felt like I was there!
One of the best 1 hour of my life
Actually got a bit of acrophobia watching this. Great videos for those rare few of us who've never been on a plane before. Adding ATC is a nice touch. :)

Great video, it's good to hear ATC while descending & on approach it makes it a lot more interesting !!
I am amazed every time I see a huge hunk of metal be able to get off the ground. Cool stuff!
Smart choice in editing my friend, I love the sound of those 777 engines too. I think that is what kept me calm on my flight to Manila :)
Really enjoyed that, felt i was on the flight with you loved the atc communication also. :)
Thanks for clarifying my terminology..I was referring to the raked wingtips but my brain fell asleep..and thanks for deciphering the difference in the models..really great videos btw
When I fly I get real sleepy, I almost fell asleep watching this.
amazing video! hd, hd sound and i like the concept that the atc recordings are overlapped, its like a full coverage experience! please keep these videos coming! cheers!
Best airplane video I have ever seen on TH-cam!! Thanks for making my day!
so cool that they let you listen to ATC chatter, wish other airlines would do the same.
Only united, American airlines and southwest lets you listen to it. On channel 9
+Andre Els it is cool but imagine there was some kind of minor emergency that passengers don't need to know about....everyone would panic! I know I would
I find myself watching it all too when there's nothing else to do! Thanks!
Can't stop watching these vids, specially the ones flying into Britain, guess i'm just homesick!!!!
Man I wish Air New Zealand and many other airlines had an ATC channel, it really brings a new dynamic to the flight experience. Awesome video though :)
great stuff. These guys are very clear and fluent throughout atc
It was very nice from the start to finish. Smooth flight and landig, a perfect take-off. Thanks for sharing this video, it has the story of this flight. Keep doing this great work, and the idea of sound is spectacular also.
what camera do you have? :))
This is really cool! Thank you for posting it. I've taken the Triple 7 across the pond from Phoenix on British Airways, and a United 777 to and from Tokyo a couple of times. Beautiful aircraft. I love it.
Very nice, look forward to watching your return flight. hope you have a great time in London.
Great vids, I'm going on holiday next month (only my 3rd flight ever!) so I'm a little bit nervous, your enthusiasm for planes and flying is great to see - makes me feel a bit more relaxed :) .
Great video, always love the nervous coughs in the background lol.
I can't even tell you how much I love this video, well done!!!!!
You also got the best seat on the aircraft
What a buttery smooth landing!
watched the whole video and was really good, keep up the work Luke!
Great job. Love the ATC linked up. I remember asking a CO Flight Attendant years ago which channel was the cockpit, -she looked at me like I had three heads!
This 777 is a fast climber. Excellent views.
Thank you! I had flown United four times before this flight and didn't know about the ATC until 2010. I could only wish every airline had it ha.
NICE!!!! A+ job! I love London and Heathrow! Flown in there like 3 times before!
I subscribed!
wow, one of the best flight-videos on youtube!
Love the view of rain-swollen River Thames at Richmond, at 1:00:43 :) Great video altogether.
Very good video! Thank you that you made it, I had great time!
Regard from Belgium
thanks for uploading all of this, its great, and THANK YOU EVEN MORE FOR THE ROUTING!
Very very nice man ;) I told you that your videos are the best...Riccardo from Italy :DD
I forgot about the time I got to fly to Vancouver Canada in 2006 when I was a brand-new CFI, along with a customer with his brand new TBM850. Thanks for including the Pratt & Whitney 4090 Engine startup; It's very difficult to find clips of those these days!
Another brilliant video, well done! :-) Shocked to see not a single EI airbus at T1 ha
Holding pattern, great. That is one reason we need another runway at Heathrow!
LAX to London is a LONG LONG LONG flight!!! I bet you were just over it all by the time you landed.......nice video!!
I may be a dork by saying this, but I watch/listen to this video every now and then before bed. It definitely makes for some worthwhile dreams lol :)
Thank you sir! One of the best movies of it´s kind on the Tube imo! //Another fly geek ;p
your just like me. usually when I film takeoff and landing i try to be a discrete as possible. what i do is hold the camera close up to the window and then try to lean most of body to block the camera from people seeing (especially FA's) my of my flights are with AA and they really never seem to give me a problem. great video as always :)
Good stabilisation and got a good steady hand when Filming on board.
Nice video! Interesting with ATC :)
Gotta love that 777 whine as it spools up! :D
best video of the landing at heathrow ever! :P great job! ;D

that takeoff was absolutely awesome!
Just read your description regarding the ATC, that's brilliant!

more video length, more details I can get..you did a great job in this video..thumbs up!
Thank you for sharing. Very enjoyable. I love the 777.
Best Video of the landing at Heathrow !! Awesome !
I have a flight sim. I used to fly the 777-200er. Your lucky because that plane is my favorite. I want to fly it so bad!

Brilliant video mate! So if i've got everything correct you were landing behind a TAP and behind you was Air India 131? Is that right?
Thank you so much for posting this magnificent video~!!!
That's a really nice video. Thanks for posting.
VERY interesting, thanks! I had no idea (I've never flown on a 777, but I helped assemble the wing of #123 :)!
Love it -- thanks for sharing. You have a new subscriber.

This is awesome. i just jump straight to the landing part.
I think what's most amazing to me is that you can fly non-stop from LAX to LHR on a twin engine plane.
Flaps 5 departure. Please subscribe and like ONLY if you enjoyed the video and my other videos. If not then don't do so. Cheers.
how much i love flying from LAX.
amazing video man nice!! United is my Favorite airline!

Nice!! thank you!! flaps were retracted almost immediatly after take off...
Some crazy stuff mate, had to move around. Like James Bond? No no haha! They never said nothing thankfully!
"United 934 heavy triple 7"... he must be proud of flying the triple 7 :D
i love the sound of the 777
I also have to give you credit for having your camcorder rolling before the flight attendants took their seats for take-off.
