I began following Derek when he was 19 and Just joined the Allman Brothers. See him every time he comes around (Aug 28 Philly). Nobody on the planet sounds like him. His guitar playing is exquisite. Modal Indian and African tones, swamp blues, jazz etc. He is fluent in all of it. What a master of his craft.
I have heard guitar players and bands for the last 50 years and as I have gotten older I have learned to appreciate the extreme Talent and god-given gifts that are expressed through music. This Band with Derek and Susan reaches an emotional plateau that is to be appreciated. There isn't a touring band on the planet that can touch them. As for Derek, IMO he is there with Duane, Moore, Eddie,Jimi, and Stevie.
On a scale of 1-5 it's 5 On a scale of 1-10 it's a 10 On a scale of 1-100 it's 100 On a scale of really phuckin good to awesome It's really phuckin awesome😊
I was there both nights and in the front row no less. Both shows were downright spiritual for this old fan. But it's deeper than that, Derek and I are family. So watching him grow over the years as a player, producer, band leader, husband and dad has been a joy. His playing is transporting into areas that very few can get to. It's kind of like a journey through the songs. This version is spellbinding. I still get goosebumps every time I watch this. Thank you for posting it and most of all, thank you Derek and thank you Sue for the joyful noise you bring the world. I do wonder what my late birthday brother Kofi would have brought to this track.
Had to come and get some more after last night’s amazing show! We are some lucky son’s of beeches to be alive and experience the magic of the Tedeschi Trucks Band. The waves of perfectly mastered sound, the heavenly vocals, the dirty layers of funk, all the tasty grooves and riffs, damn. Grateful. Can’t wait for next year ❤
I am sure Duane is smiling down... hearing what he might have become had he longer on this planet.... so glad someone took the ball and is running into new dimensions with it. Not to mention the whole band is tight as a tick.
Yeah. Nice to see someone with good ears that isn’t afraid of offending fans of sacred departed artists. I loved and admired Duane Allman but he did not play slide really all that long and we can only assume what he’d have done with it had he been able to continue with his life. Derek gives us an idea, Duane was a huge Coltran and Miles fan and wasn’t the player to stay on the well traveled path Elmore laid out, it would have probably been a path similar to Derek’s with his antennae adjusted to receive everything. I haven’t heard everybody but Derek is the best I have ever heard with a slide.
I agree completely. I love Derek's original approach to slide playing. You know when I think of it, I can't remember a jazz guitarist using a slide. Anyway, love seeing folks who really enjoy their work and it shows. @@gdavis2018
@@gdavis2018100 percent agree. 50 years from now people will be talking about how they got to see Derek, just like people talk about Duane, or Miles, or Hendrix whatever…. I was at the MSG show and in a suite. I ran out in the hall and grabbed a couple of the workers and brought them into the suite for Pasaquan. I told them to remember this moment. Watching Derek play is like watching Michelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel!
What an absolute beautiful vessel of music Derek is. A perfect example when the human ego is put aside to let every emotion come through in his sound. Inspiring and transcending to say the least ❤️
Just had the honor of hearing this amazing band live in Melbourne recently and one the greatest musical experiences of my life. Often wondered why they had two drummers but after hearing them live.... what an experience. Probably the best of all the many video captures I've listened to, this one really captures how incredible they are instrumentally.
Like Duane, Jimmy Herring, McLaughlin and many others, Derek exceeds the limits of his ability on stage! There are few things more exciting for live band music. He 'pulls it out' most of the time, but sometimes messes up. That risk makes it VERY exciting! Miles always wanted his band to do that every time they played!
The game for the world. Almost as good as test match cricket which is the best diversion invented by man. For some reason, the people I meet don't see it.
Besides Duanes old Gold top Les Paul this is the first time I’ve seen Derek play something besides his trusty SG. And that Gold top thing was a one time only, special situation. Good to see him experimenting or branching out. He’s officially mastered that slide-SG thing.
There’s a great video from the early TTB days of angel from Montgomery/sugaree with grace potter as a guest. He plays this guitar and it sounds amazing! I always wished he’d play it more but I understand why he wouldn’t. It’s probably a little tougher to play, has a narrower neck, and has tuning issues. It’s also significantly heavier, SGs are crazy light and he has specifically stated he looks for the lightest ones. On top of that, it’s likely worth at least $15k. He tours heavily and plays outdoors lots, that is tough on an old instrument. There’s a reason he plays SGs given to him or those custom ones they gave him way back, they are not worth that much money (under 10k I think). He might also just greatly prefer the comfort of the SG! They are extremely comfortable to play standing up especially when you find one without neck dive. They play long shows almost every night. I know he likes to stick to one guitar because he wants to fully get to know it and be very connected/know exactly what it can do (he speaks about this in a rig rundown he did). He also plays an old firebird now and then, there are videos! Super cool sound as well! And he used to play a supro with DTB for one song. Sorry this is long 😅
@@danielnemez3537thanks for the great info 🙏 just seen TTB at Byron Bluesfest, my 3rd time, and always wondered why Derek doesn’t swap guitars in and out during a set like most others. They’ve just reminded me why they’re my fave live band 👌👏🎶
The secret to the perfect fried egg is largesse. Do you think that is enough butter in the pan? Think again. Are you hungry. Think again. And so on. In the end the perfect fried egg is the inevitable consequence of desire.
I use that expression a lot! “tight as a Tick”! 😂 Here’s a band thats tight as a tick, more so now. I believe this was their 1st time playing it. I know it was for bassist & drummer. Guitarist is a great slide player but I guess wants to put his own spin on this🤷♂️ Hope ya enjoy! ✌️ th-cam.com/video/NmQILqdjdq4/w-d-xo.html
Tedeschi Trucks Band any of this band is a thumbs up
For me, this is up there with mountain jam or Les brers or Elizabeth Reed or whatever.
You name it. This is s modern masterpiece.
Words can’t describe! Simply perfect!

They have steadily and quietly become a truly great band, they just kill!

My favorite band that I still hope will come to my home country Bulgaria.
The synchronization between the drummers! Incredible.!!
Incredible. Keyboard and drum solos are with the very best of the Allman Bros days. If you're not moving you're dead!
Amazing better discipline then Old times Great Rock…
Fair but let's not forget how good Kofi was.
The drumers soloing is Pure Jazz. Awesome.
For now, the premier jam band of our time. Thank you for changing my life Derek Susan and co.

My favorite band for the last 15 years. Get to see twice this time around. NH and Boston… they truly make my day!!

AND. one of the top guitarist over all! Yes sir.
THE “GOAT” of the slide guitar!
He didn't grab his slide once during this brilliant tune

Derek Trucks running around the stage like a mad man.
Across the water 😊
As I understand, Derek doesn’t use a monitor or an ear piece. When he wants to hear an instrument better, he just walks over to that player.
Quality music and playing.
what an amazing band
Masterclass ! So, so good - reminds me of the Bros ;-)

Derek watching his band mates admiringly during the drum solo...
A side-benefit of playing in your own band: better-than-front-row seats to watch some of the best musicians in the world! 😁
WOW.... speechless!
Awesomeness!!
So beautiful ❤️
What a tour de force this is! Amazing! Absolutely!

Not bad for a garage Band 😜. ❤️ TTB just an awesome thing you guys do.
Derek never fails to impress but this keyboard player is shredding!
What a joy! Could almost call it The ghost of Zappa :-)

When it all comes home at 20:53. Oh man. Just magic.
How wonderful for the person with the shrill scream to bless us with their performances. That’s why I’m here. 😵💫🤯
What the frack was that? Still trying to reconstitute my brain after having it blown apart. New favourite.
Cheers 🍺

Note the "Hills Are Alive" reference early on. A propo to Red Rocks.
Amazing! TTB!
For the winter nights.
Derek should play that 335 on more songs. Such a full sound.

WOW that 335 in his hands sounds better than LP to me
Good & hot!!!
Hemp trucks the ball through midfield and puts a perfectly weighted pass through the maelstrom of defenders and there it is. Football.
But it clearly is. One man's thought against another every minute.
I think this song exists only to give Susan a break from singing, but it is still a work of art.
When Derek Trucks plays, John Mayer looks on in wonder.
Not working a slide and playing a hollow body he's' adventuring onward, forward guitar tool box as he has for 40 years a true pro
This sings.
Julie Andrews was smiling !
Was wondering ifn anyone else would hear the reference...only children of a certain age I suppose...
That’s was cool. Probably only at Red Rocks.
Everybody ripping it , BBBBBBBad A
Anyone knows what tuning does Derek use on his guitar in this song?
It's his usual Open E tuning.

Not their first time playing it. Pasaquan was released a year earlier, Summer 22
And the aliens that had planned to take over this planet, bowed their heads and left.
Is it illegal to make up a bridge club and serve homebrew to to the members?
Why doesn't Trucks sing?
His fingers do.
He has Susan ...
It's Jeff Beck 🙏 i n the flesh
A little Dickey Betts thrown in as well
@ezsmith3765 - he usually uses that one when they play Bound for Glory
