When bleeding brakes you can save a lot of mess by putting a length of plastic hose on the bleeder valve opening and run it into a plastic bottle instead of squiting it all over the floor, and your arm.

    • @toddlanders4637

I borrowed my uncle's '58 Buick for a special event, under the quid pro quo that I bleed the brakes first. He warned me that it's a hell of a mess, because the bleeders on the front are directly behind the knuckle, so it's impossible to put tubing on the bleeder. My assistant pressed the pedal, I cracked the bleeder, and a stream of brake fluid shot out... and straight through a hole forged in the knuckle, exactly in line with the bleeder, clearly designed to accept a tube through the hole and on to the bleeder. He had never noticed the hole. 😂

I would like to share this post with several different (related) bloggers as it pertains to all of them. First your productions are much more entertaining and interesting than anything on network TV. You offer REAL content, not staged bull crap like ALL the others (TV shows). You promote great family values and set a fine example for others to follow. You help others in need and share valuable information with us. You invite us into your lives and show us things we would never see or experience. So, THANK YOU all for what you do, it is appreciated.

Hot tip on bearings... They are all standard. Read the number stamped on the old one and you should be able to order anything. I learned this on my Lotus Europa 45ish years ago. No rear hub bearings were available in the US. My old man grabbed the bearing, made a phone call to a place called Bearing Specialties (or something like that in the south end of town) read him the number on the side of the race and they had them on the shelf. They looked a lot like a forklift carriage double roller and were about 1/10th the price if I had ordered them from Lotus in England.

If it breaks down it will be in the first 250 miles.
And if you pass 250 you will make it all the way.
Watching you working on this gem brings back many memories of when I had my 69 Charger 440 mag 4 speed.
    Loved that car!
But I had to part with it as at that time back in the early 80s I did not have the means to restore it. So I decided to sell it and let someone who had the means to treat it right take care of it properly.
I would love to have another one, maybe this one even? Would be Awesome to be driving that gem once again.
Love you channel! Keep up the Great work!

Every time I build battery cables I use welding cable that is used for stick welding!! That wire is usually a 2 gauge or 4 gauge cable or wire!! I always use the bigger 2 gauge and I have never had any issues with doing it that way!! Plus lots of people that have problems with there battery cables or problems with starting and the wires getting to hot to fast usually end up doing it the same way that I do it!! Every one I have showed also love the neat look of how I end up putting them together!! Awesome job guys on getting that awesome charger up and running again!!! I definitely remember when I had built a 1970 Dodge Dart swinger everything on it was much much cheaper to buy for it 25 years ago then it was to buy parts for a Chevy pickup 4x4!! I went threw that dart that I built when I was in high school in the 90s and it was a 1/4 the price then it is for the 1969 Chevy 1Ton 4x4 that I have been building for the past 25 years!!! Remember keep up all the hard work guys!! You all are doing an amazing job!!!

Fun project for sure, cant wait to see the process of restoration. I noticed you used a plastic fuel filter on top of the engine, I installed one on my '70 Duster with a 318, replacing a filter with a metal housing. Drove it on a hot day and the filter melted, dumped fuel on the intake, and surprise, fire! It burned the upper radiator hose and it extinguished the flames. The next filter was the OEM metal one

One of your best uploads yet! Not ONLY was I impressed with your abilities and transparency, showing and owning any issues/problems that arose, to then finding the solutions, at which point, proving and showcasing JUST HOW MUCH mechanical/electrical knowledge and experience you ALL have BUT ALSO, the fact that you guys found, fine tuned, and mastered a certain UNIQUE STYLE in filming, producing, editing content for TH-cam that IS YOUR CHANNEL that's MOST impressive!!! ALSO, regardless of the location, it really shows that you have found the formula for creating CONSISTENT QUALITY CONTENT that is ROBBY LAYTON !!! You have come a long way! You ALL should be super proud!!!

That is one good looking machine. I bet it'll look great when you're done with it (like the nugget). On the last video you were looking for names - if that's the original color and you put a black stripe on the tail section I'd dub it the name, Yellow Jacket or Stinger. Good luck on the journey back!

Feel your pain with the speed governor on those trucks. We just drove one across the country from New Jersey back to Victoria BC Canada with a dance floor (Cheaper to do that then ship it). Exact same truck.

Guys it is extremely important to make sure the bolts you use are not too long every time, I have seen engines destroyed by using a bolt that was a little long to attach the motor mounts , piston was clamped in place when the bolt cracked the engine block .
The correct way to change free plugs is remove the engine first because some are located in the back of the engine block inside the bell housing. It is the fastest easiest way to do the job and all are charged at one time. Guaranteed no problem later . On dodge engines it is common for exhaust studs to open into the water jackets so you must put tread sealer on the studs before you install them.

Love the rebuild. I am a big Mopar guy and I am really enjoying this. I watch mostly on the Television so I cannot comment unless I log onto the computer. Living in Overland Park, Kansas I enjoy some of the parts places you visit because I have been to most of them. Keep up the great vids and I will keep liking all of them.

A little tip for you guys with full floater rear axles. Those rubber freeze plugs make great axle tube seals for when your axle shaft seals starts leaking. Just pull the axle and put the freeze plugs in the axle tube hole and tighten. I have a pair in my Isuzu Rodeo's spare parts box for just that reason. Some years ago I was headed to run the Rubicon for the Marlin Crawler Roundup in 2001 and blew out my right rear axle shaft seal before I even got out of Texas. I ended up pulling that axle and putting in the rubber freeze plug, flipped on the ARB and drove it all the way to California on one wheel drive. My buddy Randy Burleson went to 4 Wheel Parts and bought me a new axle seal and we changed it out that night in front of his house, then went wheeling with Marlin and the gang the next day.
    They saved my vacation!
And yes, my Isuzu does have a custom made Dana 44 Full floater axle in it. I built it. (Front axle is a Toyota SAS...)

I had a 69 SE with the 318 red ram. I loved that car. Fast, good looking, and beat every stock dodge in town!!! Then I spun a bearing, and ran out of money and replaced with a stock blue 318..... what a toad, traded it for a 71, 340 Duster Kansas City !
