    This is going to sound so harsh but having 3 out of 6 kids adopted, having 2 more taken away by family and using drugs while pregnant and/or while caring for a child who is dependent on you isn't just a bad "choice". It makes you a terrible parent.

      yeah. Seems crazy that she was given the opportunity. Give it to a young mum who hasn't had the opportunity.
      Giving 3 up for adoption I won't judge her for. Given everything else that seems like the brilliant parenting if they went to good homes. Losing 2 out of 3 and doing drugs whilst parenting... yeah, that's bad parenting.

Something tells me that she was if her abuse of drugs was as bad as it was then I would almost certainly strongly consider that her abuse was also during pregnancy which is very harmful to a child in utero. That alone would make well there are no words for what that would make her quite frankly.

      Because she is a narcissist and only cares about herself. Maybe she is addicted to being pregnant. Likes all the attention she gets. But then is unwilling to take care of her children properly. I think some women who are criminals and who are not stable to have children should not be allowed to keep them at all. The worst part is that the ones who will suffer the most are the children. They have their lives practically ruined even before they begin!

    I did 7 months in Vandalia and Chillicothe in MO. What astounded me more than anything is that women would be there talking about how they miss their kids and going to every church service and prayer circle begging to go home to them. These same women were sent home and came back MORE THAN ONCE in those 7 months. My kids were 9 and 3. Although they were in good hands, there's nothing like MY hands. I truly believe that time was harder on them than me. I could NEVER do that to them again. That was 21 years ago. My son doesn't remember it at all, but my daughter does. The rare times it comes up I still feel awful.😔 That lil stay took me straight out of my hot girl days and put me right into soccer mom mode. God bless these ladies. I'm sure being drug addicted makes it much harder. I wish them the best.

    I love the Wee Ones program. These women not only get to bond with their babies but they also participate in things like parenting classes and drug treatment and that is very beneficial. I do feel the same as most in the comments about Bobbi. Not only has she lost 5 kids already but she was trying to say that she didn't need drug treatment. That is a sign that her mentality is not where it needs to be in order for her to really change her life. Even the counselor has doubts about her future. She has taken a place that another woman and child could have had. I think maybe first time offenders should have priority over those who have been in and out of prison with multiple kids that they've already lost custody of. I do wish that fathers were given the same opportunities.

      A child, especially a newborn needs it's mum. I think this program is invaluable. On the outside where there is little to no support the chances of the child having a good start are pretty slim. This way the child and mother gets the full support of the prison team. Giving them a much bigger chance on the outside.

      We need major reform. The men are getting off scott free. They need to start paying up. No more free rides of knocking up women and expecting the tax payers to do it. Jail time is needed for these guys too.

    In every pregnancy right up toward the end I think most, if not all moms get really anxious and impatient for the impending birth. I know I was but I had complications in all 3 births but thankfully healthy kids. It’s a whole lot of anticipation with a nice coating of being uncomfortable no matter what you do. I had my oldest deciding to come out a week early, my son induced due my gallbladder going bad and having massive and lengthy gall attacks. (They we’re afraid my liver would start to fail again) and he was born 10 days early. Then my youngest decided to be a week late, apparently she wasn’t done yet and another induction. It’s difficult to tell which of these moms will stay on the straight and narrow but I think this wee ones program is a good thing. That initial bond with your baby is crucial.

    They have a similar program in Minnesota. The babies don't get to live there full-time though, they get to spend weekends. Babies and children through age 12. They do an extensive selection process to decide which women are eligible and they have an individual unit the women live in and the general population have no contact or access to the babies/kids as they visit and spend weekends with their mothers.. I think it's a good program.

    Breaks my heart to see that prisoners are put in shackles 20 minutes after the baby is born. What’s the fault of these children, their parents made bad choices and continue to do so, i wish there was a way to prevent this situation somehow. Every child needs their mother!

They set them up w/ a job, a place to stay, and someone to go to for help if they need it, like someone to talk to, etc;
