Choosing yes man doesn’t really mean he won the courier over. Once captured, he knew his time was out and had nothing else to lose. It’s why he’s so calm about dying because he essentially signed his own death warrant trying to sneak around the legion and getting caught. Him telling you about yes man is the equivalent of ratting out your imposter partner for being an idiot. If he would die, at least his work for taking down the leaders he dislikes would come in full circle whether the courier takes his advice. His choice of words before you decide his fate is essentially, “if I’m gonna die, I’m gonna bring this party down with me. If I can’t win, no one can.”
Him shooting the courier was just business. He needed the chip for his plan. He even tells you: it was just a run of bad luck, but the game was rigged from the start. It was nothing personal. That's why it is nothing personal when you return the favor and take back the chip. It's just business, after all.

Benny is just too greedy, too power-hungry for that, he clearly wants power all to himself, so it would be something too uncharacteristic for him. Heck, there is a cut encounter after the Benny quest where, if you free him from the Fort and let him escape, you can come across him again and he mocks you for not killing him when you had the chance, after which he turns hostile and tries to kill you all over again.
Benny wouldn't share power any more than Caesar. ...actually, now that I think about it, lets look at the faction outcomes: NCR: the courier is rewarded with the Golden Branch, the NCRs highest civilian honor (yey...) Legion: Caesar (be it Sallow or Lanius) mints a new gold coin with the couriers face. Mr House: gives the courier every luxury he can possibly provide (including the same aparatus that keeps himself alive), and refers to the courier as his Lieutenant. So... no one except House shares their power. The NCR and Legion just give some insubstantial honor for getting your ass blown off for them. House showers you with everything a wastelander could possibly want for life on top of sharing a bit of his power (headcanon: a good karma courier can make things better in Freeside and temper House's cold logic with compassion)

I was just recently playing Fallout: New Vegas again, because I randomly thought about having the good nostalgia. Honestly, hearing about the passing of Matthew Perry was unexpected. I will play the game in his memory.
It's not even you that ends up leading Vegas. It isn't a good ending for New Vegas. People just like having the freedom to make all the choices they want, which is fair, but bad if you're trying to make a case that it's an ideal story outcome.

Benny really isn't so different from the courier when you think about it. He shot the courier because they were in his way, and tried to kill them again because they were a threat. All to gain power. How many people has the courier killed, who were simply in their way? Everyone's got their own reasons to justify what they do as the courier, I'm saying it's all about perspective; and people aren't so different as they'd like.

He doesn't explain why though, he only says Vegas would be under your rule. But what's to stop you from becoming any of the other factions Benny mentions? What makes you running Vegas the most preferable outcome? Oliver asks a really good question as to if we know what we are doing with THAT much power and "creating a nation" and carving out a new frontier. The NCR may not attack you with their military, but what's to stop them with the constant espionage and cutting of supply lines e.t.c. The Legion will probably crumble so they're not really an issue but what's to come of the 86 tribes and what's stopping them from banding with the NCR to cause nothing but problems for you? A Yes Man ending seems like a constant headache in the aftermath with nothing but problems and a constant threat from an enemy who can never let Vegas go.
That's what I was thinking. The only one who knows what House wants to do is House himself and he tell you pretty much how he cares about humanity and its progress. Benny saying "he keeps vegas for himself" as if he had the power to stop ALL the bombs from dropping. House did what he can. I'll never HATE House as a character because of how hard he worked to keep vegas safe
I believe that the majority of the fighting force of the 86 tribes dies at the battle but as for the rest well they will be part of the ongoing crisis that Caesars death brought. They will be of no consequence to the courier they're also sworn enemies of the NCR so I also don't think they'd ban together with the NCR as these conflicts take years to get over and even longer to negotiate peace terms with that's provided the new leader even wants it. Now as for the NCR well they have just lost a very very costly war at the expense of millions of caps and thousands upon thousands of soldiers, as I understand it according to Chief Hanlon the citizens of the NCR in California don't even know or simply don't care about the Mojave as they too have a myriad of problems of their own there such as wealth disparity, corruption and now the death of their president which leaves a slight power struggle as we don't know who is the next best candidate. I think the NCR would take years to recover from the loss and also we know thanks to Fallout 4 that the main Brotherhood force out west still exists so of course the NCR has to consider them as they would want to lose California alongside the Mojave as the Brotherhood would be fully aware of this loss.
Just to add I am looking at this from the players prospective not the surrounding area as most players would choose Yes Man because of the role playing aspect which is why for me he is the best as such discussions like this are why it is the best we get to imagine how we would get to run the show and deal with the ramifications of being the new sole ruler of Vegas. It's just so damn interesting how deep the role playing can go.
Not to mention NCR would probably make god knows how many attempts to send in assassins into the strip to kill the courier. Its like the CIA and their over 500 assassination attempts on Fidel Castro in Cuba. The courier would have to sleep with one eye open the rest of his life

The problem is that independent vegas has no long term solution for the post-apocalyptic world. NCR and Legion want to use a failed government to base a new civilization on. House is the only one in the ENTIRE wasteland with a plan to better humanity (i.e. eventually sending out ships to find a new planet that isn't wasted, and in the meantime firing up industry again)

It's more in-character for them to want to seize your assets for the government. And even if you are part of it, they'd likely see it as being too much power for one person. You'd be 'encouraged' to relinquish Yes Man and the army to the NCR scientists or even military. At most, they'd likely give you partial control by 'encouraging' you to join the NCR army itself.

In a weird way. The Independent Yes Man ending to me feels poetic to my character. He was a former Desert Ranger. With tech available at Big Mt. and a Securitron Army at his back and Housr out of the picture. He leaves the Mojave to its natural state- Wild and untamed. Over time the communities around Vegas would slowly come together with surprise of the miracle of the Sierra Madre's vending machines made available to the communities. After a while slowly would the tech of Big Mt. hit the streets around the Mojave and pull communities together over their own accord. With the courier fulfilling the role of Randall Clarke on bigger scale with the Mojave Wasteland being his children. And he being the father in the cave, watching over the community, existing as an invisible hand to help, the father of the Mojave

When Yes Man says he's reprogramming himself to be more assertive, it means he's reprogramming himself so he doesn't just follow orders from anyone that finds him, not foreshadowing overthrowing the courier. I think Josh Sawyer confirmed this. Though house is definitely the best option if it's just complete anarchy afterwards. I like to imagine my courier tries to expand across the Mojave and rule it how he sees fit, essentially trying to become House when I choose Yes Man though.
So he’s got no real argument against House. Makes sense. Most people think they got the gacha moment against him, then falls to pieces on the tiniest bit of scrutiny.

First time I started to play New Vegas I was wishing to have an ending with the Great khans and Benny, I know it’s sounds weird but imagine if you would be able to join the people that tried to kill you and then all the Mojave turns into a disaster, it sounds like a plot twist ending
thing about benny is that he isn't the first boss to have a line about why his choice is the best either. i still think that independent route is optimal, if your roleplay is a heavily involed courier then whatever their motives are, by the end of finishing every random side quest in the mojave they are the most qualified person for the job and heck if other factions will pay any mind to that. ncr is a bureaucratic hole that overextended and maybe president kimball knows your name after you save him but even if they don't just consider you a tribal from outside the civilized world like they do khans the sheer red tape will prevent you from really participating in the way mojave is handled. house will not hesitate to eliminate resistance which may very well involve you ~not allowing him to kill them orphans~ or ~trying and killing all of them orphans~ to hyperbolise a little (my specific grudge is the outcome of kings making up with ncr, house just invents a reason to clear them out in the slides). and legion's the legion lol legion is never a good option they are the villain in our story and they are the villain in their own and if you do roleplay a psycho who wants some of that slave action you could as well do it yourself with a fuck all robot army behind you. it's just that, it has to be thought through to be the optimal choice. if your courier just does what they're told, (maybe they're a yes man, ha? ha? let's move on) may very well be that for your mojave other choices are better. like sure, in the example i provided earlier if you go with mr house and don't negotiate between kings and ncr, which you don't need to do, the kings will be better off and it's just a valid way for a story to develop. outside ncr's questline you need to go out of your way to even get involved, from in-universe perspective, even if the game as the medium that you play and want to explore demands you go and take a look. and ncr is the established faction most capable of change (discounting legion's ability to change into a ticking bomb the moment caesar dies, which is uhhh kinda the same thing, a timer before a timer). house would say that the fallout is the fate of democracies, i would say it's the fate of prewar nationalist zealotry combined with apocalyptic arsenals, and that the people probably didn't vote to get feckin blasted by nukes. and ncr does do some heinous shit as represented by the bittersprings incident, but really they are most able to own up to that being a tragedy that shouldn't have happened. i don't want to lick that american boot for too long, really it's just a shortcut to me that is widely familiar and relevant to fallout lore on the merits of it being set there, but american people do cause positive change both in their country and in the world by protesting and other social action, even if kinda sucks that the latter is often enough "stop the war that us started", or that the former is "stop the social injustice built into our system", but well that's how you address flaws, right? would be wild if they went outside over an ice cream line discontinuing or smth.

I sometimes wish that there was a Benny cooperation ending.
Benny is just too greedy, too power-hungry for that, he clearly wants power all to himself, so it would be something too uncharacteristic for him.
Heck, there is a cut encounter after the Benny quest where, if you free him from the Fort and let him escape, you can come across him again and he mocks you for not killing him when you had the chance, after which he turns hostile and tries to kill you all over again.
Benny wouldn't share power any more than Caesar.
...actually, now that I think about it, lets look at the faction outcomes:
NCR: the courier is rewarded with the Golden Branch, the NCRs highest civilian honor (yey...)
Legion: Caesar (be it Sallow or Lanius) mints a new gold coin with the couriers face.
Mr House: gives the courier every luxury he can possibly provide (including the same aparatus that keeps himself alive), and refers to the courier as his Lieutenant.
So... no one except House shares their power. The NCR and Legion just give some insubstantial honor for getting your ass blown off for them. House showers you with everything a wastelander could possibly want for life on top of sharing a bit of his power (headcanon: a good karma courier can make things better in Freeside and temper House's cold logic with compassion)

It's not even you that ends up leading Vegas. It isn't a good ending for New Vegas. People just like having the freedom to make all the choices they want, which is fair, but bad if you're trying to make a case that it's an ideal story outcome.

Benny really isn't so different from the courier when you think about it. He shot the courier because they were in his way, and tried to kill them again because they were a threat. All to gain power. How many people has the courier killed, who were simply in their way? Everyone's got their own reasons to justify what they do as the courier, I'm saying it's all about perspective; and people aren't so different as they'd like.

Chandler was my favourite, and benny was one of my fave in fallout new Vegas, never realized until now. Wish I could say thank you to him for being another part of my childhood
It's cool that Benny, in the face of his likely gruesome execution; Gives you some genuine advice and prospective. Ring-a-ding-ding, baby. Ring-a-ding-ding.
He doesn't explain why though, he only says Vegas would be under your rule. But what's to stop you from becoming any of the other factions Benny mentions? What makes you running Vegas the most preferable outcome? Oliver asks a really good question as to if we know what we are doing with THAT much power and "creating a nation" and carving out a new frontier. The NCR may not attack you with their military, but what's to stop them with the constant espionage and cutting of supply lines e.t.c. The Legion will probably crumble so they're not really an issue but what's to come of the 86 tribes and what's stopping them from banding with the NCR to cause nothing but problems for you?
A Yes Man ending seems like a constant headache in the aftermath with nothing but problems and a constant threat from an enemy who can never let Vegas go.
That's what I was thinking. The only one who knows what House wants to do is House himself and he tell you pretty much how he cares about humanity and its progress. Benny saying "he keeps vegas for himself" as if he had the power to stop ALL the bombs from dropping. House did what he can. I'll never HATE House as a character because of how hard he worked to keep vegas safe
I believe that the majority of the fighting force of the 86 tribes dies at the battle but as for the rest well they will be part of the ongoing crisis that Caesars death brought. They will be of no consequence to the courier they're also sworn enemies of the NCR so I also don't think they'd ban together with the NCR as these conflicts take years to get over and even longer to negotiate peace terms with that's provided the new leader even wants it. Now as for the NCR well they have just lost a very very costly war at the expense of millions of caps and thousands upon thousands of soldiers, as I understand it according to Chief Hanlon the citizens of the NCR in California don't even know or simply don't care about the Mojave as they too have a myriad of problems of their own there such as wealth disparity, corruption and now the death of their president which leaves a slight power struggle as we don't know who is the next best candidate. I think the NCR would take years to recover from the loss and also we know thanks to Fallout 4 that the main Brotherhood force out west still exists so of course the NCR has to consider them as they would want to lose California alongside the Mojave as the Brotherhood would be fully aware of this loss.
Just to add I am looking at this from the players prospective not the surrounding area as most players would choose Yes Man because of the role playing aspect which is why for me he is the best as such discussions like this are why it is the best we get to imagine how we would get to run the show and deal with the ramifications of being the new sole ruler of Vegas. It's just so damn interesting how deep the role playing can go.
Not to mention NCR would probably make god knows how many attempts to send in assassins into the strip to kill the courier. Its like the CIA and their over 500 assassination attempts on Fidel Castro in Cuba. The courier would have to sleep with one eye open the rest of his life
All you said was a bunch of bullshit. What supply lines, you mean the NCR supply lines that would easily be cut off once they’re driven out of Vegas, or the biggest one being potentially nuked in LR. NCR is so damn incompetent but even then they’re be suicidal to try fighting a war with the guy who has every faction idolizing him who has an army of self repairing powerful robots. Not to mention the corruption and that people back west would be busy overthrowing kimball. That’s the best part, in the independant or mr house ending the NCR Is better off because they get rid of the corrupt president and general, most likely promote Col. @@demsocialistboi I think the idea is that once you form independent Vegas, you have your own faction that maintains control over both Vegas and the wider area.
The problem is that independent vegas has no long term solution for the post-apocalyptic world. NCR and Legion want to use a failed government to base a new civilization on. House is the only one in the ENTIRE wasteland with a plan to better humanity (i.e. eventually sending out ships to find a new planet that isn't wasted, and in the meantime firing up industry again)

In the NCR ending some people had to move away from Goodsprings because they couldn't afford to be taxed to hell (because its a GREAT idea to create the same government that caused a nuclear apocalypse), while House plans on sending colony ships out to find a planet that isnt a hellhole. Seriously, people don't like being told what to do so bad that they think independent vegas and no future is better than Mr House's rule and genuine hope

It's more in-character for them to want to seize your assets for the government. And even if you are part of it, they'd likely see it as being too much power for one person. You'd be 'encouraged' to relinquish Yes Man and the army to the NCR scientists or even military. At most, they'd likely give you partial control by 'encouraging' you to join the NCR army itself.

In a weird way. The Independent Yes Man ending to me feels poetic to my character. He was a former Desert Ranger. With tech available at Big Mt. and a Securitron Army at his back and Housr out of the picture. He leaves the Mojave to its natural state- Wild and untamed. Over time the communities around Vegas would slowly come together with surprise of the miracle of the Sierra Madre's vending machines made available to the communities. After a while slowly would the tech of Big Mt. hit the streets around the Mojave and pull communities together over their own accord.
With the courier fulfilling the role of Randall Clarke on bigger scale with the Mojave Wasteland being his children. And he being the father in the cave, watching over the community, existing as an invisible hand to help, the father of the Mojave

When Yes Man says he's reprogramming himself to be more assertive, it means he's reprogramming himself so he doesn't just follow orders from anyone that finds him, not foreshadowing overthrowing the courier. I think Josh Sawyer confirmed this. Though house is definitely the best option if it's just complete anarchy afterwards. I like to imagine my courier tries to expand across the Mojave and rule it how he sees fit, essentially trying to become House when I choose Yes Man though.

First time I started to play New Vegas I was wishing to have an ending with the Great khans and Benny, I know it’s sounds weird but imagine if you would be able to join the people that tried to kill you and then all the Mojave turns into a disaster, it sounds like a plot twist ending

thing about benny is that he isn't the first boss to have a line about why his choice is the best either. i still think that independent route is optimal, if your roleplay is a heavily involed courier then whatever their motives are, by the end of finishing every random side quest in the mojave they are the most qualified person for the job and heck if other factions will pay any mind to that.
ncr is a bureaucratic hole that overextended and maybe president kimball knows your name after you save him but even if they don't just consider you a tribal from outside the civilized world like they do khans the sheer red tape will prevent you from really participating in the way mojave is handled.
house will not hesitate to eliminate resistance which may very well involve you ~not allowing him to kill them orphans~ or ~trying and killing all of them orphans~ to hyperbolise a little (my specific grudge is the outcome of kings making up with ncr, house just invents a reason to clear them out in the slides).
and legion's the legion lol legion is never a good option they are the villain in our story and they are the villain in their own and if you do roleplay a psycho who wants some of that slave action you could as well do it yourself with a fuck all robot army behind you.
it's just that, it has to be thought through to be the optimal choice. if your courier just does what they're told, (maybe they're a yes man, ha? ha? let's move on) may very well be that for your mojave other choices are better. like sure, in the example i provided earlier if you go with mr house and don't negotiate between kings and ncr, which you don't need to do, the kings will be better off and it's just a valid way for a story to develop. outside ncr's questline you need to go out of your way to even get involved, from in-universe perspective, even if the game as the medium that you play and want to explore demands you go and take a look. and ncr is the established faction most capable of change (discounting legion's ability to change into a ticking bomb the moment caesar dies, which is uhhh kinda the same thing, a timer before a timer). house would say that the fallout is the fate of democracies, i would say it's the fate of prewar nationalist zealotry combined with apocalyptic arsenals, and that the people probably didn't vote to get feckin blasted by nukes. and ncr does do some heinous shit as represented by the bittersprings incident, but really they are most able to own up to that being a tragedy that shouldn't have happened. i don't want to lick that american boot for too long, really it's just a shortcut to me that is widely familiar and relevant to fallout lore on the merits of it being set there, but american people do cause positive change both in their country and in the world by protesting and other social action, even if kinda sucks that the latter is often enough "stop the war that us started", or that the former is "stop the social injustice built into our system", but well that's how you address flaws, right? would be wild if they went outside over an ice cream line discontinuing or smth.
