As soon as my 6.6 duramax was no longer under warranty I removed all the junk off of it and now the engine runs better than when it was new and has not needed to go to the shop since I removed all of that other than just regular maintenance. I have a 2000 ford excursion with 7.3. Our miles per gallon is 12 on the highway at 2100 rims. The old fuel was better for the excursion. I do use LUCAS, AND SEAFOAM
Apples to oranges. A 7.3 powerstroke didn’t have to comply with modern emissions…which is why it’s one of the best diesels ever built and why it’s still going.
Love my 2020 LTZ 1500 3.0l. So far just over 13k miles flawlessly. Wife is beyond comfortable driving it. Towing performs extremely well even at 9k lbs. All hand calc I am getting about 25-26mpg daily driving all colder weather got my truck in Sept. Towing varies my trailer type and load. But 2k extra weight in truck and towing a 9klb loaded trailer it got about 11mpg. Towing snowmobiles and 1 in the bed got about 18-19mpg. Towing suv 7k lb on a flatbed got 14.5mpg. If you want amazing mpg stick to 55mph or 65mph. That's 9th and 10th gear in their sweet spot it seems. When I do that on short runs I see 30mpg+. Driving from Mankato, MN to Minneapolis doing about 65mph on avg truck was at 38mpg on a 60* day. I'm excited to see summer mpg. This 3.0l hates cold weather for mpg. However it never once didn't start for me. Even in -20 temps out on the lake ice fishing all weekend not plugged in.
Was thinking the same thing! Going on a long car ride like that I would have taken my jacket off and got comfortable. I hate wearing a coat if I’m in the car for a long ride.
I got 860km on a tank from my 2003 toyota corolla going down hill from the rockies to the plains on single fill... wind, elevation, driving style make a difference. Tires make a huge difference.
Bought a Sierra 1500 AT4 , 3 ltr diesel March 2. Watching this just after a 400 mile road trip from Portland, OR area to NE Spokane area, we averaged 26mpg empty. Speeds were 77 to 85 most of the way. Lots of hills and wind. Way home, today, we got 15.5 mpg with a Uhaul trailer, I'm guessing around 5000lbs loaded. Same weather conditions but we averaged around 70 mph most of the way. Great truck and engine...plenty of power.
For road use, diesel vehicles have always been better. A standard roadgoing hybrid diesel electric vehicle can get an easy 85+mpg Hell, my father's Passat TDI got 48mpg with a 42mpg rating. Diesel is insane.
Diesel destroys air quality. "Clean" diesel destroys vehicles. You're right about the hybrid aspect: companies have _needed_ to make hybrids for the last two decades and have simply dragged their feet.
My 1984 Suburban 6.2 diesel had a 40 gal tank and got 20mpg no matter where I drove it. By this point in automotive engineering history I would have hoped for more than 25MPG... Pretty truck though.
I have the Sierra Denali and I find it's almost always about 2mpg more when I manually calculate it vs the trip odometer average. I average about 29 on the highway, more if it's really flat like in Illinois. Also, just wait till you get 5 or 6k on the odometer. It gets a bit better from there too.
I drove 677 miles with my 13 y old Land Rover Discovery 3 6 cyl 2.7 Turbo Diesel. The fuel capacity is about 22,4 gallons, the fuel consumtion just below 400 gallons per 100 miles ;)
My Dad back in the 1980s had a Delta 88 with a Diesel and a 30 gallon fuel tank. Diesel got over 30 miles per gallon. Car would usually get over 1000 per tank full.

I heard you,it's such a nice truck but because is a first year of this diesel engine it has so many problems what a shame.
I dont know if newer trucks have the same issues
You need to get exempt diesel truck (depending where you live) and have all that junk removed from your engine. As soon as my 6.6 duramax was no longer under warranty I removed all the junk off of it and now the engine runs better than when it was new and has not needed to go to the shop since I removed all of that other than just regular maintenance. EGR & DPF will slowly destroy your engine and you’ll be lucky to get 200k miles out of it. With the EGR and DPF it’s just a matter of time before something malfunctions on the system and the computer puts you in to limp mode and leave you on the side of the highway.

In Canada,..that’s 34.4 mpg ( Imperial gallon ) . That’s amazing for that large SUV. I’m sold 👍❤️
I appreciate the fact that you didn’t just use the on board mileage computer , but did the real way of checking miles per gallon instead , because that is the only real way to check this for accuracy
IM IMPRESSED THAT WOULD MAKE ME AND MANY OTHERS WANT TO GO BACK TO DIESEL
And that's with winter blend fuel and at altitude. Easily capable of low 30s mpg
Is winter blend still being used? And is the consensus that vehicles get less fuel economy at altitude? I kinda had the impression that the reduced drag evened out the fewer air molecules that enter the engine.
Wrong. I barely got 23 mpg out of summer blend.
Diesel is season blended?
@@andrewsbbq nope
The blend does not effect mpg in any discernible way. Your time warming up, foot, speed, air temps etc all greatly effect the seasonal difference.
I drove my 2000 4x4 diesel excursion from Jackson, MS to Amarillo, TX on a tank with 1/4 left...knocking 800 miles. It is still in the vehicle family and runs like a top. Get back to me in 21 years with a report on the Yukon.
My 2001 Ford Excursion with 7.3 went 750 miles on a single tank! Maybe someday when it quits I’ll be looking at a Denali
Which on a 7.3 will be never...
I have a 2000 ford excursion with 7.3.
Our miles per gallon is 12 on the highway at 2100 rims.
The old fuel was better for the excursion.
I do use LUCAS, AND SEAFOAM
But what is the size of the tank? A 747 can cover a lot of miles with a single tank too. However...

Excellent video Nathan (& Case). This seems like an incredible road-trip vehicle. A true "family truckster"!
I got 860km on a tank from my 2003 toyota corolla going down hill from the rockies to the plains on single fill... wind, elevation, driving style make a difference. Tires make a huge difference.
My 03 trailblazer cruises @ 75mph @ 2,000 rpm
So 1,200rpm for a truck that size is impressive
Tach says 1700 in the video. Not sure what he’s talking about.
Mine does 2600 on 86 mph (140kmh limit) 2007 has to be the worst highway cruiser ever considering steering is manual labor after 60mph lmao
A standard roadgoing hybrid diesel electric vehicle can get an easy 85+mpg
Hell, my father's Passat TDI got 48mpg with a 42mpg rating.
This thing is still brand new. Let’s see how much better it does with 50k or so on the drivetrain once it’s fully ran in.
Meeh it will probably lose mpg because of the epa crap on it.

My Dad back in the 1980s had a Delta 88 with a Diesel and a 30 gallon fuel tank.
Diesel got over 30 miles per gallon. Car would usually get over 1000 per tank full.
The engineering disaster of the Olds Diesel is exactly why I will never buy a GM diesel.
Hello Nathan. Nice to have you today

The TDI Touaregs had a 25 gallon tank and could easily get 30 mpg at a steady 65mph. Pretty easy 750 miles on a tank.
I have always taken range into consideration. Visiting family two states away often, 1200 miles. 2010 ford Fusion Hybrid would give us over 600 miles.
My best vehicle ever was my 2003 Yukon 5.3. I ran it 14 years and 182,000 miles and it was still perfect when I sold it.
I had a 2011 Yukon Denali with a 6.2 and traded it in with 317,000 miles on it and it ran like a top

Great video. I’ve debated getting a Yukon diesel or Escalade diesel. GM is currently killing the large SUV market.
Yukon diesel for sure. The Escalade is a show stopper most certainly, but bang for the buck is with the GMC, which tops out where the Caddy starts.
GM has killed the large SUV market for years!!! These new diesels only lengthen that margin! Excellent job GM
@@hellkitty1014, not really looking at a bang for buck purchase. For me, it comes down to technology offered and obviously Caddy offers more. I’m extremely picky and order all new vehicles versus buying off the lot and I think overall, Caddy offers the most available options. Nothing wrong with a Denali but I’m leaning towards the Escalade. Don’t really care for show stopping, I just like technology 😂
@@CornFed_3 Cadillac specifically the Escalade has supercruise as well as all the screens. If you want autopilot you go GM at the moment it seems if it's not Tesla. GM also doesn't offer an Onyx or blacked out package on Buick yet Chevy and Caddy have one? Weird shit.
The escalade with the supercruise self-driving is really freaking cool!
My 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Denali with the 6.6l gave me 697 miles on a single tank. I added 34.3 gallons to the 36 gallon tank so we could have gone 700 miles on a tank easily. Like you, we were not interested in getting the best fuel economy, just driving. We averaged 63mph over the two days between fill ups. The trip computer said we got 22.9 mpg but the calculated rate was actually 20.3 mpg. Truly an amazing range.
Impressive for a vehicle that size. Will be curious how that engine does over time
I think the engine will age very well and its an in-line 6 which means easy maintenance.
This isn't really a new Engine, it is an Isuzu design who almost only make diesel engines.
Probably 150k miles and that's it.
That's OK range. My 2019 powerstroke with the 189L(48gal) tank routinely ran more than 1600km(1000miles) on one fill. Thats a 9400lb(8500lb curb weight) crew cab longbox 4x4 pickup my 2020 is only the 36 gal so I'm running 1200km(745 miles) per tank. Both trucks can tow 22000lbs, and the 2020 0-60 in 6.6 sec.
