    Am I the only person watching this, thinking he was an XL? Perhaps it was camera angles/trickery but my God, is this thing massive inside! And call me crazy, but I think GM is cornering the economy truck/SUV diesel market right now - these 3.0L inline-6's have the inherent balance nailed as well as the benefit of 'diesel power' and overall economy. Not bad at all, Brian.

      This thing is so good. Other than the goofy shift buttons, it’s near perfect.

    Ordered the 3.0L diesel in a 2022 Surburban RST. With the 28-gallon diesel tank in the Surburban, the range at the EPA rated 26 highway MPG is 728 miles on one tank. Often times diesel does better than EPA ratings on the highway, especially if you're driving the speed limit, 30 MPG should be easily achievable.

    Which do you prefer more, the Escalade or the Denali? I really like the diesel as well.

      Escalade for the aesthetic and tech.

    Great point about the rear view mirror in the rain.

      Good thing you can use it as an actual mirror as well.

    I love the all black leather seats of this vehicle. It's now fall 2022 and the new 2023 Yukon Denali Ultimate has come out, with some additional luxury features, including massaging front row seats which I would love to have, but sadly it only comes with brown leather seats. They aren't bad looking, very good for brown leather, with a hint of reddish or tobacco hue to them, but I just so love the all black leather seats, whether there are brown highlights on the dash and doors that's fine, but the all black leather seats, absolutely my favorite, and possibly why I would not get the newest Ultimate, in favor of a small step down to the fully loaded non-Ultimate trim, but with these all black leather seats. My two cents. Great vehicle for so many reasons. Love the mpg and much higher travel distance per tank of gas of this Duramax diesel as well, and just yesterday here locally, the premium and the diesel were the same price at the fuel tank, which is apparently often the case, or very close anyway. Would definitely add Blizzak's full time snow tires for winter driving here in ski country, and I do wish this Denali could be optioned with 20" instead of 22" wheels, but I'd still get it. Great and very useful review. Thanks.

      Does the 3.0L V6 Duramax diesel Yukon get better fuel economy than the Infiniti QX50 which has a 4 cylinder 1.6L gas engine?

    I’m surprised that they don’t have rear wheel steer at least on the Escalade version

    I realize this review is over a year old, but do you remember how often the diesel engine went into regeneration mode ? Some other "reviewers" have said only once in a few thousand miles. I'm considering a Yukon with the 3.0, but I'll be doing mostly short trips around town. I drove a commercial vehicle every day, ten years ago that had a diesel with regen mode and it did it at least ONCE over the 100 miles I drove it daily. I know you aren't supposed to turn it off when it's in regen - I'd have to wait in the grocery stores parking lot for it to finish before I could go inside.

      I drove it a few hundred miles and don't remember experiencing that.

    Is it worth waiting until Super Cruise becomes available? I wasn't sure how impressive that feature is (or isn't)!

    Brilliant vehicle. Makes me wonder how GM can replace these with electrics, seeing as their strength is highway cruising for hundreds of miles a day and towing. With electrics having max of 300 miles in perfect environment and then taking long time to charge back, how can these vehicles be replaced?

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a problem for us car buyers to solve, isn’t it? Not a chance an EV would have been suitable for this road trip.

    • @ElectricBlueIX
      @ElectricBlueIX 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thoughts exactly. These EV’s are not forward motion in engineering in my opinion. It’s a regression. What GM has been able to do with this diesel and even their gas engines is amazing. My current 2017 Yukon Denali is amazing on trips. I get 24-25mpg fully loaded with every option. Can’t ask for anything better out of a big motor SUV. Next Yukon will have the Duramax for sure.

    • @BrianNC81
      @BrianNC81 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Battery tech will have to significantly improve to compete with the range of diesel. Take for example the Suburban Diesel with a 28 gallon tank at the EPA 26MPG highway it can cruise for over 700 miles between fuel stops. Often times they beat the EPA MPG number on the highway. At slower speeds 800 miles is probably possible on a single tank.

    Is it better then a hybrid or no

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s far less complex than a hybrid, which is an important consideration.

      @wardellward 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianMakse ok ok

    • @BrianNC81
      @BrianNC81 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends on the type of driving you do. Hybrid would be superior in city stop and go driving and diesel is superior for highway cruising. The 3.0 duramax diesel can see 30mpg on long interstate trips with no stop and go. City driving is about 20 mpg.
