    I have always found trolling to be the best way to catch trout from a kayak. Good tips! Sometimes they respond well to a faster pace, at least where I am at.

    Great explanations especially on the challenges with two rods. Learned my lessons the hard way. I always paddle away from shore to avoid those snags on 2nd rod while fighting the fish on other rod.

    I use a Predator XL Minn Kota (electric troling motor) with fishfinder /GPS. I find 1.7mph is a great speed for trolling for trout. Usually one line top water, the other down deeper on a downrigger. Usually slay them up in the eastern sierra's.

    • @ShootFishLife
      @ShootFishLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! I prefer a little forward to be able to see them and have the rod be able to flex and the tip not aim at the fish when fully flexed. That way the rod can fight the fish while you are getting ready to grab and real it.

    I just started trolling and in 20 hours of fishing have struggled to even get a bite. Can you make a video about common beginner mistakes in trolling for trout?

    • @ShootFishLife
      @ShootFishLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can work on another video of some sort. When have you been going. If it’s recent this heat has those trout super deep and harder to catch. Best chance now is first light and last light.

    • @ajimenez618
      @ajimenez618 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ShootFishLife That makes a lot of sense. I have been going 7am-12pm on weekends (well after first light). Using a dodger rig with inline weight and spinners/spoons trolling around 2-3 mph. My suspicion was too much speed so I would slow down to 1.5 mph and still nothing. I may just have to get out there earlier.

    • @ShootFishLife
      @ShootFishLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may not be getting deep enough also. But I would try earlier for sure.

    • @ShootFishLife

      25-50 yards or so. Just depends how picky they are being. Your lure will also very depth based on distance behind your yak.

    • @ShootFishLife

      The lure itself will dive. You purchase the depth you want when buying the lure. No weights.

    Does the angle of the rod matter while trolling?

    • @ShootFishLife
      @ShootFishLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      A little. The closer to the water the deeper your lure will be with the same amount of line out. I also find it easier to watch closer to the water then way up high. Also if trolling two rods the rod that does not have a fish line will lie on the water vs possibly wrapping around you or your gear on the kayak when you stop moving forward.

    Nice video thanks. What’s the speed you go? Lake or sea? Thanks

    • @ShootFishLife
      @ShootFishLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Never done this in the sea. But for the lake usually about 1.5 mph. But if your not getting bites play with your speed and remember how fast you were going when you get one.

    Hey this was really helpful im trying to get into trolling and wondering how far back would you have your lure as per depth your fishing in???

    • @ShootFishLife
      @ShootFishLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad I could help. With this style rapala more line doesn’t always equal more depth. If you want to change depth you’ll have to change lures or use some kind of dippsy diver or down-rigger. I usually run around 25-30 yards back.

    Can I use an anchor wizard with an anchor trolly on a bonafide ss127 and when im trolling if i get a fish on just anchor in place while im fighting the fish. Im usually only in 30 - 10 feet of water.

    • @ToolsForLife
      @ToolsForLife 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ?

    • @ShootFishLife
      @ShootFishLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I read that as a statement of what you did not a question lol. You could do that. But if your already trolling your momentum when the anchor hits will swing you kayak in a direction you will have to learn. Then if you have a big fish it might not be the direction you want and now also have an anchor line in the water to keep the fish out of. Personally that sounds like more of a hassle then its worth but I have never tried it so I cant say for sure.

    • @ShootFishLife
      @ShootFishLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you buy cranks they have a depth they run on the package. Most the ones I have used for trolling for trout have been 10-15ft. That's why they work better for me in the morning or evening as the trout come closer to the surface.
