    Dude. After watching all of your videos where you’ve gone in tough water, you are insanely good at kayaking I just don’t understand it. Basically perfect maneuvers every time

      +JohnAdamsInc1 haha man I think you're overestimating my abilities, but I appreciate it. I surely didn't perfectly maneuver in that one spot hahaha. Get better every time I go out though!

      @@YakFishField they are really good!
      There is a product called Fish Crisp that is available everywhere for cheap. Gut your trout, head off, throw in a bag with some fish crisp dust, shake, let sit for 5 minutes, fry in oil until you can lift the meat off the bones. Best camp dinner ever. Ps... always take some little potatoes campin with ya ;)

    🙋 I started fishing at the age of 7 years old and I had fish for different types of fish over the years grown up since then. I love trout fishing and crappie fishing more than anything. I will say this I had never did kayak fishing before seriously. Where I live we don't have the big Waters to use a kayak which is a shame. Anyway I enjoy watching your videos on TH-cam keep up the great work. And hopefully one day before I get any older I will kayak fish.

    Nice video Robert. I am from the Pacific NW and have done my share of fishing light / ultralight set ups. Your guide definitely knew how to fish ... hooking up on a nice slab every drift. I was a little disappointed he didn't help you fix your problem withe line tangles earlier though? Did you let him know you were having that specific problem right away? Lots of salmon / steelhead anglers in the northwest use a rig with Slinky's or pencil leads, swivel, leader attached to artificial lure or bait or both. Anglers will cast SLIGHTLY upstream, allowing the weight to sink near to the bottom by the time your drift starts. However, if you cast too far upstream, with a rig like this.....especially with a lure/bait on the terminal end so much lighter than your weight. The weight will lead the terminal gear downstream and the terminal gear gets tangled around the main line or leader near your sinker. I saw a video the other day, where the pro guide/ lure rep suggested to limit the upstream angle to 15' past perpendicular. I would guess casting too far upstream as more likely cause of your line tangles here than unsecured sinker/terminal gear while moving. I can remember tangles that looked like that years ago when I was drift fishing corkies, yarn, and bait from the bank. Tight Lines.

      This is all very good info. I love traveling to fish because I learn so much from different regions and anglers. It’s totally different up there than in, say, Florida. My guide did what he could, but I’m a pretty self-reliant guy. I wasn’t paying him, so I repeatedly told him he didn’t need to hold my hand. He would for an actual client.

      Robert Field well some iconic Australian species that have a high profile are "Australian Salmon" on the south western coast as they are bigger in this spot, "Southern Black Bream" in most rivers and estuaries around southern Australia, this is our equivalent to the USA Bass Competition seen, "barramundi" our favourite big fresh water sports fish found in the North of Australia and finally "Murray Cod" these things are monsters, freshwater found in the Murray River in the states of South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria.

      +donald yardley I always like to rig on the light side for any fish I'm going for, I just don't go for fish this small very often. Usually bass is as small as I go for, and I don't use 6# test for them. Tons of fun for sure though.

  • @fisherma1934
    @fisherma1934 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just a tip, you are ruining the line by letting your hook and weight dangle when the rod is in the kayak holder. Its doing wraps around your rod when you are on the move. Maybe thats why the line keeps getting tangled when you fish. i would leave slack and put the weight in the kayak

    • @YakFishField
      @YakFishField  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    There has to be a less complicated rig for those fish.

    • @YakFishField
      @YakFishField  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +TridentDriver1987 of course. As with any fish there's tons of rigs you can use to catch them, including some very simple flies. But as Ben explained in the intro, the conditions told him that rig would be most effective. And considering he stuck four TANKS on the day, I'd say he was right. My inexperience held me back but I was stoked to get one in the end. Fun fish!

    Why do some fishermen pull trout out of the water for photo-shoots and hang on to them and ewww look at the color all the while the fish is drowning gasping for water...Either keep, kill it and eat it or let it go....Especially trout if this was a lingcod or catfish maybe but even then don't stare at it in your hands.
