It’s not fair. I have bought your plug-ins at full price since the beginning and now you’re letting them go for for half price. LOL 😂
what a great scam!
Thank you for paying the full price!
We like to call that "the IK strategy." Always offer better deals to new customers than to existing ones.
@@BrunodeSouzaLino When a bag of potato chips goes on special at the supermarket, does every person who ever bought the chips at full price before that, get called up and offered a refund?
Your logic is a MESS
Just to clarify: The plugins were always free, so $0 / 2 is still $0 ;)
hey man, i'm actually a fan of your plugins and talked about them positively in one of my courses. For a video i have planned im intending to recommend your plugs again, specifically purple gate but also others. In terms of the video, i agree with almost everything you said. I guess the main thing im not in total agreement with is your representation of my original video, and i don't blame you because i did make a pretty sensationalist video. but my actual point wasn't that all EQs sound identical. The point was that, if you actually know how to use EQ properly, it doesn't make sense to buy a whole bunch of different EQs for different "flavours" because you can get the same results with a single full featured EQ, providing you know how to use it. I'm just editing my next video in which i display quantified results for many tests including cumulative effect and nonlinear design.
I also mention linear phase in the original video and i'd argue that the addition of distortion to an EQ isn't part of the EQ but rather an additional feature bundled with the plugin, which is better controlled if you are to simply use a separate saturation plugin.
so yeah, i don't blame you for thinking i was saying they all sound the same because a lot of people got that idea but if you watch the video in full, my point is that the scam is the idea of "flavours", i wasn't dismissing actual features, like linear phase, oversampling etc
So educational. I've heard cramping explained several times, but your explanation was clear and concise.
Your plugins are top notch any one saying it’s a scam is a fool the time and effort to builds them based off the actual outboard gear is amazing
Exactly some of the points we were discussing in the Reaper Discord , when we watched that fellow's video! Great video, John! And thanks for all the plugins!
You do great work John. And I appreciate your no-nonsense approach. 👍
Congratulations: You uncovered the "scam" scam :o). I would love to hear more about the Phase issues... I couldn't really follow Dan Worral on this. I like your way of explaining things.
Great stuff ! So nice to have linear mode in your EQ !👏
Educational videos about technical stuff would be welcome !
Love that you called this video out! Really appreciate that Orange EQ doesn’t cramp, amazing work. Yes, more education - thank you 😊
I've just mixed and entire show using the sum thing channel, bus comp and limiter, the client bought me gear instead of cash payments so it seemed so appropriate to use your plugins exclusively. They and I are super happy with the sound I got with them.
Great to find a a You Tube "expert" who actually understands and can explain the subject rather than just voice an opinion ("plugin scam exposed"). Unfortunately you have to kiss alot of frogs before you find a prince.
Bro, you're a real hero!! Thanks a lot for everything!!!
Now I want a fully fletched "How does EQ change phase and how to listen to it the right way" video from you :) Seriously though, proper technical explanations regarding the foundations of DSP would be highly appreciated. Thanks for everything you share with us!
I saw that video you mentioned and was thinking the same. Even some equalizer handle the Q factor curves differently, some are narrower and others wider, even when you dial the Q control the behavior of the curve is different. Then, as you wisely say, is the decramping thing and the harmonic distorsión that adds to the character of the plugin the developer wanted in his design. Great job with the update as always. Cheers!
Yes. More educational vids please. Always great to brush up on the basics. Thx!
Very good explanation on the difference 👏
Good video! You're right, a UI is a tool, in and of itself; one of my favorite EQs for my master buss is the API 560, which, being a graphic EQ that's set up in octaves, makes it very easy to shape the overall tonal balance of a mix, plus sometimes I want a specific EQ curve, like the Pultec low-end trick, or a Trident A-Range, with its asymmetrical bells (it's one of my go-to vocal EQs, and I've used it as a channel EQ across the entire mix). And, sure, I guess I could recreate these things with a modern EQ-in theory, but in practice it's better to have dedicated tools for these things. That's why if you go to a studio with however-many channels of SSL EQ, they still have outboard stuff like Neves, APIs, and Pultecs.
Moreover, I think using a vintage UI without all the visual feedback of a modern EQ is good for keeping you mixing with your ears, and helps you train your ears if you're still learning how to mix.
you really got my point about the importance of how the eq presents itself to the user, thank you!
yes his test was extremely flawed
It would be nice if things could be hidden on the Sum Channel. For example, I would like to keep only the compressor. Or just with the EQ 🙏
Always doing a great job, John!
This is probably a pipe dream: but it would be so cool (if even possible) to see a reaper theme that could implement your sumchannel S2 into the mixer view. Like a Harrison Mixbus type setup with eq and compressor in a console strip view that is on every channel
I love your scams 😂😂😂😂😂 i think we all reaper users have to thank you for that!
Thank You for Your plugins!
I would like to see more educational videos.
Thank you !!!!this is What i need !!!
Thanks for your work.
Good job! As always!
John, you are a genuine philanthropist. I find your work, and presentation of it, inspiring. I also aspire to give in the name of stronger community and tribe. Do you have any method in place to contribute financially to your work? I don't have a lot of money but I'd like to give back to you from time to time, and suggest that some of my friends do as well.
Thank you so much for your efforts.
interesting stuff, John!
Looking forward to the Worrall - Matthews coop edu vids ;)
Nice explainer. I would watch more 'explainers' from you. :-)
Re cramping in filters, Dan Worral has covered this topic in several of his excellent and educational videos. Well worth checking out.
What an ingenious scammer you are Sir! Give me all this great stuff for free, making having some of the best and most coveted plugins a reality...
By giving this stuff away for free, you are making it tough for the actual scam artists (the ones charging hundreds or thousands for their brand name plugins) to make their huge salaries!
On the REAL though, You have made it possible for me to participate in the ReMixed contest using what feels and sounds like my huge paid stuff while keeping with the rules of using stock Reaper or JS plugins only.
I dont upload or enter every month, but I always do download the tracks and mix them for my own entertainment.
I really appreciate that your versions not only look like but sound and work like the originals. I appreciate it more as well when you teach or explain things.
I can tell that you know what you are talking about. It makes me love what you are doing even more.
Finally, I think it is about time that you came up with Tukan Studios merchandise (very serious about this) and I want to be one of the first to order a T-Shirt!!!
im loving that Iceberg gui color. possible color selection for the other plugins in the future?
Hey John, quick question... is there a reason the orange eq doesn't have a low pass filter? I love the plugin... I'm just curious. Thanks for everything bro.
You're amazing ... thank you!
I really trust your knowledge, thus I would appreciate if you could provide a séries of technical vídeos about common tools, like equalizers, compressors, saturators, etc. thank you, and sorry for my poor english!
Hey, John! I'm liking your tukan plugins. What changes in the S2 series comparing to the previous ones?
thks!!!! awesome update!!
Thanks for your work, btw did you ever made a multiband gate? That would be very handy, I have one in Stereo Tool, but that plugin eats all CPU resources. Probably, because this is a Broadcast DSP. Thanks.
Not yet, maybe later...
@@johnmatthews8435 Would be very handy, especially for mastering. Thanks for all the other plugins you already made. I use them together with commercial plugins. Cheers John!
Awesome video. More educational videos would be greatly appreciated.
LoL. Along with this title , I love your plugins.
I would love a vid on eq phase...I think it would be helpful for all...!
I think you might be a genius.. This is great...
Hey, thank you for all these beautiful plugins!
I've got a problem with Sum Channel 2. I've installed it via Reapack. I'm on Windows 10, Reaper v. 7.16
When I try to change compressor type, it just doesn't work. It's stuck to the default one
weeeee upgrades
"Plugins are a scam, so you should stop buying them and instead buy my online course which will make you a great engineer and is definitely not a scam."
Master John Matthews, I have a big challenge for you!!!! Please build an easy to use and affordable Dialog/audio match eq like (Izotope EQ Match,EQuivocate Graphic EQ, Voxengo Curve EQ, MAutoDynamicEQ...etc....please build one, I know you can do it!!
Green EQ seems to have most of the features of the orange EQ, why would I choose orange over green when you can just turn on dynamic mode in green?
Green EQ features the dynamic section. Even deactivated it takes some CPU. If you don't need dynamic filters at all, save the CPU ;)
And now, the orange EQ has linear phase mode, the green EQ doesn't.
@@johnmatthews8435 thank you
Will your plugins work in Logic Pro.. Audio Units
Nope. There are no AU versions for Logic, just for Reaper as jsfx.
Why don’t you show AB or Null test for EQ cramping? Unless, it is just some graphs on screen. I guess oversampling/resampling can aid preventing eq cramping.
Offering a minimum latency 'linear phase' mode is unusual. In what kinda situations do you expect users to use the convolver without symmetric impulse responses?
the low latency mode is not linear phase, as I tell in the video.
Imagine: You already used the plugin in a mix, now some new tracks need to be recorded. The plugin automatically switches to non-linear but low latency mode for monitoring purposes. As soon as you hit "play" and don't do monitoring, it switches back to linear phase.
This is just an option for you to make life a little easier.
@@johnmatthews8435 how do you detect if the current playback is a monitoring situation or not? I always thought this information is not available in the VST3 standard
@@Beatsbasteln Easy: This plugin is not in the VST3 standard. It is a JSFX plugin - and JSFX can detect the play state (play, record, stop, pause...)
@@johnmatthews8435 I hope the CLAP guys are taking a look at jsfx too then. I've been wanting a feature like that multiple times now
I watched those videos when they came out (TH-cam recommended) and now yours (same thing). I think the main point got diluted pretty hard over the clickbait (calling it a scam), the rapid fire testing and the dude using it as a platform to offer his courses. The point is still kinda there, it's just hard to see.
It's difficult to make an EQ that sucks, so marketing will always push it as it never having sounded this good before. There is so much "this sounds great on [instrument]" that it barely makes sense, and I think this marketing behavior (sometimes even by the community) preys upon those who aren't still perfectly comfortable with their tools. It induces buying over non-issues, and that's the "scam".
The way I think about it is that most people got played into engaging with it, and that was the point all along: to hide a non-controversial point into an inflammatory video. It's low hanging fruit, you go into the video with your opinion already made.
This guy is plugin university
Saying all EQs sound the same is like saying all cars are the same because they can all go the speed limit.
what do u mean with "butt fix"?
Bug fix, is it my pronunciation or your ears?
@@johnmatthews8435 Hah, it's okey, dw :) Just sounded funny
So instead of FREE, they're FRee?
Ahhh.. So cramping happens when the width of your “Q” gets pressed up against Nyquist, right?
Also, am I hearing things or are you occasionally pronouncing “EQ” as “E coup”? 😂. I’m not sure if that’s the name of the plugin or if you’re just mispronouncing it: but it’s kinda cool and funny. 😎
Sorry, "E coup" is the German pronunciation. Sometimes hard to do everything right, when just talking.
@@johnmatthews8435 oh! Ok. That makes sense. I like it anyway. Keeps me on my toes.
Its clear he wasnt talking about you. The point is that most plugins have a lot of redundancy. Eqs, synths, reverbs, etc etc most do the same thing and the differences are very small. They will not make your music better. You can make good music with anything if your music is good. Plugins are only doing stuff on the margins. Your free stuff is just as good as the high priced stuff which in a way are scamming.
Thank you for your compliments! He had the picture of a Tukan-EQ in his intro... And yes, if the song and/or the performance are trash plugins won't make it a great song. I hope enough people know that.
If there is no windows or vst versions what the hell are you selling them for?
I'm not selling anything, the plugins are free. They run in windows, lunix and mac with reaper.
I don't think there is plugin scam but video scam, they say time is money
You're such a scammer John!
Sie werden sehr geschätzt
I hope you realise that if your equaliser "sounds different" because it comes with an embedded saturation unit then you are proving this guy right.
believe it or not : A few days ago a crack-version of Reaper came out ! Now I can install a crack-Reaper and use it just like I want, isn't that crazy !?
Please don't use stolen software :(
Equalizers are the same. Cramping is a question of oversampling or not oversampling. You are joining the con-forces? :-( And different features means it not only about the equalizer. Only because you make equalizers you mustn't side with the fraud industry. It's a very poor behavior you show here.
