every stuck up f1 fan should watch this
I mean doesn’t hurt 410 depending on the track enter turns sideways at 130+ mph
Ugh? Lol sprint cars have hell of a lot more then 600 horsepower!! They have 850 to 900
He's driving a 360 non wing. Not a 410. If it was a 410 it would be making the 850 to 900 hp range.
jesse strohl hey dumb ass it's a 305
jesse strohl 305s have 650 horses
Anything above that, has so much more horses
The car he was in was one of Krusemans Racing School cars. They have Ventura legal 360 cui engines producing about 600ish HP.
He did say that some Sprint Cars can put out at least 800+ HP. I think a lot of those people claiming 900 HP are lying to themselves.
Overall though, a few details aside, I thought it was a great representation of the fun Sprint Car racing is.
He's in a 360..
Lewis Hamilton thinks oval are ridiculous. Put him in one of these and he will be asking Tony Stewart for a job
Lewis Hamilton tested Tony Stewart’s cup car and Stewart tested Hamilton’s F1 car at Watkins Glen International. Apparently a week or two afterwards Hamilton was mocking cup cars for being too heavy and that they’re not real race cars or something like that. My impression of Hamilton is he’s a prick and I’ve heard people say he refused their autograph and stuff like that as I guess he’s not exactly fan friendly which may work for him in F1 but nascar goes out of their way for the fans so I guess it’s just a difference in sport or maybe even the culture of the two racing series’. I doubt Hamilton would strap into a sprint car if he has an issue with oval tracks that are paved I can’t see him being brave enough to run a 410 sprint car on dirt.
@@jakejonas7366 Paved is actually more dangerous than dirt. A crash at 250 mph is deadlier than at 140 mph.
@@johncarl5505 most paved series aren't going 250 lol actually none are except indycar at Indy.
@@nickphilkill8287 Not even the indy 500 goes that fast
"When the asphalt ends, the racing begins." Dave DeSpain
They did an awful job on the pictures. The picture the showed for a "winged sprint car" was a super modified.

I race a 1000cc Lightning sprint. I know it's nowhere near the 900+hp sprints, but I still have a blast. Like the old saying goes. "Everyone has to start somewhere."
I would like to have seen him jump in a Midget.
I love this sport better than nascar. I go to these races every year in Calistoga.
To me these cars aren't that fun to watch, but they look like they would be the most fun cars you could drive yourself.
World Of Outlaws drivers are pushing anywhere from 900-1000+ HP!!
Our Kistler 286-4 410 is 936 HP
CJ Johnson yeah in a super late model
Funny how every engine builders Dyno somehow puts out 950+ HP from their own motor.. 🙄
Now do it in a 410. Pushing over 900 horses.
950*
Now let's see you try a 1000 HP, 250+ MPH, Champcar at Indy.
Nice vid! I really enjoy Alex Lloyd's Jalopnik pieces. Just hope he can find a full-time opportunity in Indycar again.
I raced the old 30 by 90 Super Modifieds back in the 1960's, and it was a challenge back then. You had many rough tracks, and some of the cars that you ran against were all over the place. You always tried to figure out if the car wasn't handling, or the driver had simply too much beer or moonshine in him. Those were the good old days. When racing was fun, and a family could afford to attend a race. Today, many of the Outlaw races cost as much to attend as a NASCAR ticket. I can remember running many 50 and 100 lap races, nonstop. Today, your lucky to see a Sprint car run 30 laps without a fuel stop. Because of the competitors trying to make them as light as possible, they have taken the fun out of the sport. Just my humble opinion.
If your such a great race car driver... get into a 410 right off the bat! Try 900 HP in a 1200lb car!
2:02 that isn't a Sprint car, that is a Super Modified
Shoulda went to Pennsylvania, we live and breathe sprint cars out here.
Posse Proud
budrizzle78 Indiana is the birthplace of sprint car racing.
Grandveiw, williams grove etc i know man
budrizzle78 port royal speedway it is fast
James Clark yea, but PA is where the real drivers are at
Actually, Tony Stewart did run USAC Sprint cars and Midgets before Indy cars and Nascar and now runs as many World of Outlaws races as his busy schedule allows. I wouldn't be surprised if sometime in the near future we'll she him full time with the outlaws...
That's my home track! Take Cory's class on how to drive one of these beasts. DO THIS!!! You'll be grinning like an idiot for the rest of the day. Never had so much fun, until I got my own car. Now my son and I grin like idiots every other weekend!
..catalytic converters on a race car
Dum cail laws
The main reason i could never live there to many restrictions for cars
They're running methanol. Not sure why it would need a catalytic converter. Perhaps that's a muffler.
I wish I had this kind of opportunity
The picture of AJ Foyt is Jack Brabham
alex shouldve noted that ventura raceway is 1/5 of a mile and 20-22, 360-410 sprint cars can run a main event. bullring baby, i love ventura raceway.
at first i thought that track looked familliar, then it said ventura raceway and i was sure, thats my cities track! i go there all the time and watch the races!
We do have Sprint Cars in the UK but not many people know about them, we also have BriSCA F1 Stock Car Racing, an F1 stock car is similar to a sprint car in many ways ie V8 engine up front open wheel car with a wing on the roof they look similar to sprint cars but the big difference is Brisca F1s have bumpers on them so nudge other cars out of the way, they race on shale (Speedway bike) tracks and Tarmac ovals. if your reading this in America check them out just put Brisca F1 stock cars in to TH-cam and enjoy, any feedback welcome
there are wingd sprint cars in NZ but not non wingd sprint cars i did not know that UK had sprint car
just searched brisca f1 stock car.
some of the weirdest looking race cars ever.
NZ used to have wingless ones, but as I understand it a lot of the more "official" races have moved away from them for safety reasons. There's still a strong following for wingless cars in some areas though, with drivers regarding the wings as training wheels.

This looks like a blast! Wish there was some kind of Sprint Car Experience where you could try it for yourself.
Joshua Krome me too I'd definitely pay some money to try it
DosEquisGuy3 I looked it up and there is a Kenny Wallace Experience at some dirt tracks.
Funny you mention it...
This segment was actually taped at the Cory Kruseman Racing school, in Ventura, CA. Just google them and call them up and book a date, and you can drive the exact same car Alex was driving!
idk if ur still on the market but in perris california theres a sprint car experince u can do
Saw 410ci sprints lately and they were doin wheelies on the dirt!!! They sound a lot better and Louder with out mufflers :)
They left out the part about 9 other maniacs trying to kill you while you are trying to keep it going forward while you are pulling tear-offs while you are passing while you are watching the flagman while you are taking 2 G's in each corner while you are ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, God, I love it. USAC / ASCS Sprint car #27 from San Diego
Out there running a 360 without a hans device. scary.
At least he had a roll bar and a helmet. Imagine doing it with neither...those old racers had big brass ones.
Apparently, Jackie Stewart was in the LA area while he was still racing, and a friend took him to Ascot Park, which was a dirt 1/2 mile in Gardena. After watching the sprint cars warm up, Stewart went down to the pits, and one of the car owners offered him a chance to try driving one.
"Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my helmet" was his answer. When the car owner offered to find him a helmet that fit, Stewart replied:
"I also forgot to bring my balls"
almostfm I really hope that is true... lol
you know whats funny sprint cars are just old style indy cars modernized
Alot of power in a small package.Awesome.
Alex llyod tried it in 2012 and struggled just being on the track by himself. There is a youtube video on it. Car and driver I think.
650hp? for what a 305 lady sprint car. a 410 is like 850 and a world of outlaws can be well above 900. they bring some wild wild shit to knoxville nationals probably some over 1000
some of them are good no doubt.....but some of them are just money....i have seen some of them show up at dirt tracks and get their asses handed to them....
650 HP, if you have an engine that is a bag of crap. Most are 850 HP and up. Even the limited 360C.I. engines are producing around the 700 HP mark.
The great Poncho Carter's even famous down here in Australia!! What a Champion!! 👍
How americans do it. Dirt Track style. Start with a 4 banger and if you lucky you end in a Late-model or Sprint car. The few and greatest get to Nascar...
the 410 motors are way more powerful and theres more 410s out there than 360s like the one in the video. ive seen some go 950hp. most are 850-900
Alex is and IndyCar driver. Those guys went the other direction. Tony Stewart did start in Indy, but moved to the "dark side" later.
I actually dont know about Sprints much here because not much Sprint Car racing where i from. There is IRA i believe but that aways away.
I dare him to drive a 410 winged sprint car pushing 900bhp !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ya know, there are more recent examples of racers who came from the bullrings, too: Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordan, Kasey Khane...
lespaul1427 650 is a ton of motor for a sprint car especially a nonwing sprintcar thats a 360 i would have to guess not a 410
sprint cars do exist in the uk www.uksprintcars and will have a shakedown race on 16th march and will be ata banked tarmac track in belgium, 500+ 360 cui engines and run xxx, jei, travis kraft, eagle chassis great formula and growing fast.
cool my family has 3 600's 1 begginer box 'and 1 250
1. thats a wingless sprint
2. biggest difference w.o.o all white guys f1 not
3. u turn right to go left
Don't go to Ventura....it's only a 1/4 mile. Go to Perris, get the feel of a 1/2 mile clay oval!
heck yeah gotta love it!!!!!
800 hp??? My cars got 950
+Randomthing1222 power to weight ratio though...Sprint cars are uncomparable to street cars............let alone 410 winged sprint cars push what your car has.
The mile dirt sprint is 100 times better than Nascar and F1. You do have to be in shape for one of these.
sprint car racing is pure racing, get to the front and try to stay there, that's it, btw no mirrors!!!
In other words, the thing of Dirt Track racing is Turn Right to Go Left.
Still gotta give it shit around the corners
the ones with daddies big checkbook get to nascar...except a few
How unlucky those brits are😆
This is the one of the most red neck things I’ve ever seen.
Who else wants to see luis Hamilton race a dirt car
The worlds biggest race is 24 Hours of Le Mans
loosin the car and u wont need the brake
Sprint cars are more exciting
He claims wingless is harder but if your running a wing it's way faster and you have to do everything much quicker so its actually harder with a wing
All of us who race any variety of non-wing sprint car on dirt know there is no more beautiful and challenging form of racing. I give Alex credit for putting himself out there to try it, but mostly it saddens me that Indy long ago became so high-tech and totally disconnected from grassroots racing that the incredible skills of racers who drive sprint cars, midgets and dirt champ cars every week are no longer relevant. For us Indy is a thing lost, no longer the pinnacle of US open wheel racing.
The 410 sprint engines are 900+ hp.
actually where im from, the guys who wanna race late models start in pure stocks(4 or 6 cylinder's from like 1989 or older, and the people who want to race sprints, use to start in dwarfs but now 600 racing within the last year has started a new series called legend modifieds
Well yes and no. Even with there rich daddies they still the best. I dont really care for nascar because of how boring it gets. It almost as boring as F1
I spent every Sat. night turning wrenches on a sprint car at Ascot Park in So. Cal. At Ascot the fast cars did "back 'em in". We held the track record for 2 seasons in the 80's which was unbelievable as track records usually only lasted several weeks at most. I really enjoyed this video.
lol yes kind of but Sprint car is harder. They weigh a lot less than a wrc car. They have 900 horsepower and are rear wheel drive. WRC car has like 300 horsepower to all wheel drive. WRC rarely reach over 100 mph in a race and rarely ever sideways. Some sprint car tracks the average speed is 150 mph and on the straight aways over 160 mph. That is really fast to go sideways. Oh and all while doing it around a ton of other open wheel cars.
I dont think it'd be a bad idea to have indy car racers give this a go, I know that Valentino Rossi and a number of other Moto GP riders do Motocross on the off seasons to stay in shape and hone their skills Rossi only has over 216 starts 79 wins and 141x on the podium soooo it shows that it works! lol
note the ISMA super mods at 2:01 .These 468ci methanol drinking fire breathing road rockets are the fastest open wheeled cars in racing.Making much more than 650 hp. with their moving wing are racings best kept secret.
Unfortunately these days, the skills it takes to drive a sprint or midget car are closer to those needed in a stock car...so most of these drivers have been aiming for NASCAR.
Thank you matt bob lol Theres only a few of us that would know who they are but they are nothing like sprint cars.. and have more then 650HP. ISMA Supermodifieds 2:00 not sprints
he meant biggest race in indycar
or victorville when john aiden use to prep it. the 410 guys would say it was the only track in socal that would tug on a 410. After john aiden of 777 sprint cars quit prepping it, it turned to shit.
sprint cars, now dirt latemodels, and big block modifieds =3
Ah... That California sunshine.
This is an awesome vid, Id like to see what he thinks of the REAL sprints with wings! ;0
2:01 those are ISMA Supermodifieds not Sprint cars but nice try.
Someone please tell him the faster you go the smoother the track is......look at the way the front wheels are bouncing all around!! HA HA!!
That's a 360. The big boys in Indiana run 410s 💪
Well, I know Bryan Clauson races on dirt most of the time, obviously, he was in the Indianapolis 500 this year, I have a tremendous amount of respect for him.
i dont know who gave this guy his info on sprint cars but they have 900 hp to the wheels at least WoO cars
Alex, you're from the country of Stockcar racing, that's no Sprintcar, but Speedwaying DOES exist in the UK..
a race car with a wing (see my avitar)is like the A-Ticket at disiney land,,mash da gas n hold on
2:01 yeah those aren't sprint cars, they're super modifieds.
I love how they showed supermodifieds in one picture instead of winged sprint cars! Hahaha.
ummm.. quik. an shit.
He didn't help the image of the Indy Driver. However, going over 200 mph takes some ...
Yeah, Stop it at 2:39 and look at the specs of the car hes's driving. It's a 360! not a 410!
2:00 when talking about sprint cars why did the editor throw in a Supermodified line up?
650hp? maybe in a half decent 360 xD
650? Maybe in a 305. In a 360, or 410, maybe +800 HP
And this is why Bryan Clauson should be driving a Penske or Ganassi car.
please continue the "Concept Car Designed & Destroyed - The Five Minute Car"
Great video and very insightful.
Now you ok see you at Spring cars ok see you at spring car
if you say so
He wasn't driving a 410 sadly
Should have driven a real dirt car. A late model.
Nice explanation's, thanks!
This guy is legit scared as hell to drive the car lol.
Lmao
650 seems to be plenty for this little 'bug'
supermodifieds are the father of the modern day sprintcar, before the sprintcar, supermodifieds were the kings of the mud ovals, most of the people mentioned would have started in a supermodified, which is commonly misconstrued as a sprintcar, this is late 60s, early 70s supermods ran forst, then were taken over by the sprintcar
73SupermoD73 sprint cars were around way before supermodifieds
