Human colonies are like siblings; they will fight and bicker amongst themselves, but if you hurt one they will all come for you. If that happens then pray because as Gen. Patton said, "May God have mercy for my enemies because I won't".
I imagined all four in different ways The most Numerous ones are like giant ants The ones who posses talent in war are tigers The ones who boast to be the smartest are birds The ones who excell in arts are semi aquatic or shallow water dwellers
I can imagine, after humanity bested them and forced them to cooperate under human quasi-leadership, how a combined army (including support apparatus) of those four species would look like. The main body of soldiers is largely the giant insectoids, obviously just by sheer scale, while command structure, tacticians, and special operations, are largely the warrior felinoids, though many would still form shock-trooper regimens. The insectoids are also involved in the command structure, but likely only the senior members of the species who would already have leadership merit by their species' standards. All of them are geared up with kit mostly contrived by the hyper-intelligent avians. The avians would also serve as engineers, intelligence analysts, logistics coordinators, and closer to the front lines as fusiliers able to calculate accurate firing solutions (accounting for relativity where it matters) mentally. Perhaps a few who are less typical of their species also serve as snipers. All this is underpinned by morale and recruitment boosting led mostly by the artistic amphibious cetaceans, who in addition to their more traditional ballads to keep up morale and encourage cooperation also learned the art of propaganda from humans. Perhaps just their propaganda work alone could convince an enemy as to surrender. They would also serve in several intelligence roles including radio signals monitors, listening for the slightest disturbance or irregularity in the cosmic background static indicating an encrypted message to intercept. Peppered throughout the ranks are humans, across all levels and professions. Importantly, humans would not always in defacto command positions as many of the individuals of the other species' are equally or better qualified. However, with the wide and varied array of aptitudes displayed by humans, they would commonly be seen working along side others of the member species' in almost every task.
The whole argument can be boiled down to we know they are going to kick your butt. The question is how long until you can surrender and make it as painless as possible or do you choose death?

He who is second in everything is the scariest I could think of. Imagine if you will, a fighter, second in every style of fighting. Or, perhaps, a worker, who is second at every task. Whom would he be second to over all? There will be somewhere a person lacks, and they will be third in that one category. They can’t be second to he who is second in everything. Second, after all, is the best. For first has the farthest to fall.
We will bicker and fight until the cows come home, go out, and come home again. But the moment someone threatens our allies we will unite and curb-stomp them. And then go right back to bickering.
so this HFY mainly is the best a nationalist has to offer - "we are together", "we are powerful", "we win", "we right the wrongs that were committed to us by the others".
Well seeing how humanity seems to be under one banner this HFY is immidiately patriotic/nationalistic. Nothing wrong there, nationalism was a good thing(well to us Finns and Polish in 19th century at least) until the Italian Socialist and Austrian artist gave it a bad name.
@@Jaegerrants dividing the world into "good" and "bad" (or "right" and "wrong") is generally done by those without sufficient desire or insight to see more categories and nuances: all things are neutral, since only we can come up with goals that these things advance (and thus are "good"), or hinder (and thus are "bad"). As to the desire to belong to a group, it is perfectly natural for those who lack the ego, willpower, or strength, to say "I am", those who aren't "big" enough to be individuals or leaders, those who believe that "everyone" is an authority, and are easily swayed (influenced) by charismatic individuals, we all are born this way. Yet some of us advance to the next stage of "being different just for the sake of it" (often to argue, win, and feel superior). And even fewer of us advance beyond that to being comfortably independent, and thus able to form mutually beneficial relationships, while acknowledging the differences of others without attempting to "fix" them. Sadly, the only way to "advance through these stages" I know of, is through experiencing hardships and tolerating suffering from being "too low level", also, intoxicant intake will hinder this (and any other positive) endeavor, as it has the additional side effect of "making life harder" for the user and those close to him for at least months if not years...
@@user-tb7ml8kz7h How did you get a essay on 3 separate subjects from me speaking favorably and factual evidence based on history? But let me respond with mine: Now good and bad are subjective, take USA politics as example very polarized and the other side is always bad if nor evil or why I used history to give back light as to why Nationalism has been seen in different lights. Same applies to other human concepts: just, moral, lawful, decency, etc and their respective opposites. "One mans terrorist is another ones freedom fighter" is very much a universal truth. But that is often why HFY is such a nice concept, humanity despite our differing values and ideals has managed to unify itself. Now for your other two paragraphs I agree but for following parts: "Being different just for the sake of it" is a hopefully temporary devolution between start and the actual advancement. Some may not even go to that ditch, others refuse to get out(and these are the ones who get superiority complex about their difference) and others come out of there sooner or later. Intoxicants, you are aware that what you take, how much and how often are the critical parameters? A beer a day over years is less harmful than one dose of LSD. Besides everything has a LD50 value. Everything can harm you, even water, in high enough dose. A intelligent man knows this and one with self control looks for moderation rather than full abstinence, one with both avoids the true poisons and enjoys others with moderation. Alcohol as intoxicant is good example, a single beer doesn't really affect you that much and is out of your system in couple hours, but if you drink faster than your body handles it, then you start causing damage to your body. But something stronger, the damage done will be at much smaller amounts and almost immediate at worst.

Humanity, the best loser at everything. AT EVERYTHING. We have the second best ships, guns, defenses, tactics, supply lines, and soldiers. We fight against the best ships and overcome them with guns, tactics, defenses, and resupply. We fight the best guns and overcome them with ship, tactics, defenses, and resupply. We fight the best tactics and overcome them with ship, guns, defenses, and resupply. I see a pattern.
I'm not really a fan of humans as the jack of all trades race, it just seems lazy. The human identity is not having an identity. That said, I did like that this story focused on the divided nature of humanity, and I wish more HFY stories did that. A united humanity is scare enough, imagine the sheer terror is seeing what humans can achieve whilst fighting amongst ourselves and competing to see who and seize the most territory and such. And once you're dead, the humans continue fighting over what used to be your empire. Yes, continue, not start. They didn't wait until you were dead before fighting to decide who gets what parts of your corpse. And somehow, with all the infighting, they still annihilated you.
The "to cut the head off the snake" saying have another meaning too, wich is "get the fuck out of there asap when you do it" becouse snake heads are known to bite and poison the victim a few hours after detached, that's why you should always bury them when you kill a snake (self defense obviously)
Why do the colonies in SciFi always rebel? I don't think they would. If we look at the history of mankind the only colonies which actually did so were the American ones and even there it was only a few people. Most colonies had infighting of course too, but most of the time they came from the original population/natives.
The middle and latter half of the Twentieth Century was basically one long series of colonial revolts and rebellions. Colonies were breaking away from their European rulers left and right. Just because the British Empire largely was dissolved without bloodshed doesn't mean the rest of the great empires of Europe managed to escape it. (And even Britain's collapse was a lot more bloody than it first appears if you just look at the most well-known breakaway states like Canada and Australia)
So the United Earth Government went with the US system instead going the Westminster Parliamentary way. Which works very well under MMP. Hope we didn't get stuck with a 2 party system & the electoral college.
Funnily enough this is very similar to how the US presidential elections usually turn out. Some states are informally known as the 'kingmakers' meaning that if any presidential candidate won that state (Pennsylvania was one of them iirc), he's almost guaranteed the presidential seat even before the national vote tallying is over. Exceptions to this rule only happened... about 2-3 times in US history. This isnt because the other states actually defer to those kingmaker states when voting, but simply because the demographic of the kingmaker states tend to be the most diverse in the country due to many reasons. Therefore it's a good litmus test for the overall mood of the entire nation.
Frankly, the Athenians have inspired a lot of other governments on the planet anyway, so whether or not it's specifically the US (which was inspired by the Athenian + Iroquois governing bodies) that colonizes space, or someone else, it's highly likely that we'll wind up using a republican/democratic style of governing body.

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”
Your leaders shouldn't feel nothing but fear, when we win this war your leaders should feel nothing ever again.
Well, with how this story ended. I would say that a few human Special Forces Teams are on the enemy's homeworld with a mission statement of taking out the leadership. And this meeting was the 'GO' order
A jack of all trades may be a master of none, but at least they're qualified for at least entry level at anything and can apply one trade to another. And having multiple and expanded perspectives doesn't hurt either - as per this story.
10 billion? We may have that on Earth alone in a few years.
World population has reached 8 billion on November 15th 2022, at least according to the United Nations. So yeah. I agree that that 10 billion is set as a very low mark considering the size of the galactic rim territory, and how well we established ourselves in -story. Great story tho, regardless!
This was excellent. Props to the writer, & to your storytelling.

Human colonies are like siblings; they will fight and bicker amongst themselves, but if you hurt one they will all come for you. If that happens then pray because as Gen. Patton said, "May God have mercy for my enemies because I won't".
That is for sure one of my favourite stories so far :-)
I imagined all four in different ways
The most Numerous ones are like giant ants
The ones who posses talent in war are tigers
The ones who boast to be the smartest are birds
The ones who excell in arts are semi aquatic or shallow water dwellers
A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one
Good story, great delivery as usual.
The whole argument can be boiled down to we know they are going to kick your butt. The question is how long until you can surrender and make it as painless as possible or do you choose death?
even if you cut the snake's head off you still have to be careful with it. Until the snake is really dead the head can (and will) still bite you if you give it a chance. Here is a like and comment to help your channel grow and get you the recognition you deserve.

The second best at EVERYTHING. Which basically means that when going up against a species that's only good at one thing, they're going to get stomped on.
Shouldn't it have been 'And as they gained resources so did we.' at 8:00?
No, they meant that as they, the other species, gained resources, they started to explore as well.

Thanks for the video.
As a former middle Man many years ago I approve this message 👍
But let me respond with mine:
Now good and bad are subjective, take USA politics as example very polarized and the other side is always bad if nor evil or why I used history to give back light as to why Nationalism has been seen in different lights.

"humanity is second at everything' is not true, we are the best overall.
👌
Gotta appreciate how so many of these stories just assume the USA will be the one to colonize space lol
