I mean, if it’s a landing pad in space, it would need some magnet to hold onto ships, as it would be more convenient than clamps. Strap a generator into it, turn on the magnet, and rig the generator to go into a catastrophic overload if it suddenly changes motion, toss it into space, the moment it get close enough to a ship, the magnets jolt it to slam into the hull, and the generator will begin overload, boom.

Also I love how this represents humans nature of turning basic things into either weapons of mass destruction or medicine or assistance of tools we humans are quite resourceful and quite of a dice of a dozen faces
Every invention of humanity either started as a weapon or was the byproduct of the pursuit to create weapons. That’s hyperbolic, I know, but the 1% outlier doesn’t change the overwhelming majority. We are, after all, a barely sentient war species on a mud ball of limited resources. War is our default setting.

I can, but it would require developing technologies that would be less aggressive/invasive. Would it be easy? Absolutely not, but for an extremely non-aggressive species, it could be done. It is even entirely possible to NOT develop vaccines and just go the drug route for illness and injury. That said, different species might actually develop one or two of those differently than humanity. Remember, just because something is obvious to you from our current vantage point, that doesn't mean it would be obvious from a vantage point where the concept doesn't exist. Imagine asking tribal peoples in the Amazon 200 years ago why they don't make their homes from ice and snow, then imagine asking the Inuit why they don't use wood and leaves for theirs. There is another story on this channel about a species that lived at sub-zero temps that was confused by the materials that humans had, because they could never develop them due to the temperatures needed being so extreme it would have killed them or their world, but their cryonic tech was vastly superior to anything humans had, and their spaceship looked like a bubble. They had to work together to develop new technologies that would allow each race to interact with the other in ways that would not kill them. The point is, from where we sit, it IS hard to consider technologies that don't correspond to what we have. It is possible, however, that such tech could exist, we just don't have the right viewpoint to discover it for environmental/cultural reasons.
ahh yes...its also to note never..ever..send incompetent or arrogant officers to work with humans... they have a very 'honed' talent for 'not hearing' stupid things said...or pretend not to hear things so they can do the 'right' thing.
I generally like the stories, but I cannot express in words how fervently I hope that AgroSquirrel can somehow get relief from his obviously terrible case of constipation. You have my deepest sympathy, Sir. Have you tried Milk of Magnesia?
I liked both stories. Both had some humor, but I kept laughing and agreeing with the second one. Humans are great at weaponizing stuff. How about a credit card, for instance? You can use one to unlock some doors to break in. You can use the edge of one to slice someone up. Nowadays many have a computer chip built in You can use the info on the card to steal someone's identity and money. You can also use the chip to hack into any computer that the chip has direct access to and other computers that have access to the original computers.
One thing that I dont like about these fanfics is that humans are always written as way to eager to self sacrifice. Even at a point where its not even needed nor does make sense to do so. We will sacrifice ourself yes, but that is the last absolute final resort. Its not like we managed to survive and thrive up till this point acting as if we didnt have a deeply rooted self preservation instinct. No sane captain would suicide his ship and crew to ram the last fleeing pirate ship. There was no reason to do that. As much as I enjoy these stories, it bothers me when the authors ignore the fact that humans will do ANYTHING to survive. Self sacrifice is reserved for only very precious few instances usually involving family, close friends or survival of of big number of people/the entire species, yet humans in these stories just throw away their lives willy nilly for no actual benefit of nobody. It makes the sacrifice loose all impact.
