Around 16 years ago, I started watching your videos on YT and got me inspired inspired for the first time to start learning to play drums myself. My mom got me into an academy, in which I spent several years learning and even got the opportunity to be a teacher helping other kids starting their own drumming journey. During all those years you always were a major source of inspiration for me and I would be delighted by your talent, your style, your sound, everything. Later, by the age of 22, I finished college and moved abroad to continue with my academic studies and ended up working and building my life and career here in the United States. I’m 31 years old now, and I haven’t touched a drum kit ever since…but today I just went ahead and ordered an electronic drum kit for me to start practicing again and just enjoying myself. That’s how I eneded up watching this video and the second I heard you playing all those memories just came back again to my head. Mike, you probably have no idea of how many lifes you have impacted through your work, and how many talents out there have been shaped and inspired by your unique way of performing behind a drum kit. So I guess I just wanted to say THANK YOU.
I love this idea. A “chop of life” is any element, unique to each of us, which breathes life into our drumming at the moment. I’ve had a few of those lately. Yours is a healthy reminder that we’re all on our own journeys. Thanks for everything, Mike.
Love it thanks! You know i was at Guitar Center and almost bought your signature cowbell, however opted for the LP Black Beauty instead (on a budget that week). Now i feel like i need more cowbell in my life so i am finally going to get yours as well, i especially love the magnetic mute feature i think that will be great!
Love IT! Hey Mike, try my "chop of life"... Snare, T1, T3 T3 T3, T1,T3,BD BD....doe with a triplet feel. It's a twist on that Bonham trip but a beast when up to speed.
When shopping around I saw it and was intrigued, however went with a slightly cheaper one and ever since I have been wishing I bought the Mike Johnston signature bell. So now that i have some extra money and I think I will 😊
Good stuff! Men at work/ down under is where I first discovered you and realized how good they are and you are. Think you should re record down under 👍👍thanks
I love the concept here! There is a chop with the bass drum in the Fiona Apple half time shuffle (On the Bound) at around 3:59 in the song that I have been wanting to break down and practice but I cannot tell exactly what is happening. Maybe playing around with this Chop of Life will help me to figure it out!!!
I love your energy you motivate which is what good educators should all do. I’d like to know how you get your kit to sound so awesome. I imagine your going into a small mixer. Also how do you protect your hearing? You Rock!
Great way to turn the six stroke roll into a 32nd fill that can be used half the measure. and yes, you'll should stop the video and appreciate Mike's good taste for watches 👌🏻
Hi ! Hope you're doing well. I don't know where to write this, so I try here : you had a cowbell done and I bought it. It's a good one, but i would need a short video to get ideas on the way I could use it.....
You keep getting better and better and better . Please, let me catch up a little! You are awesome Mike . Now gimme another one to take back to the shed..😂🥁😎
I’d love to see your watch collection - you always drum with what appears to me to be very nice automatic sport watches. Great video, sir thanks for sharing!
MIKE I GOT "GO PRACTICE" BUT BEFORE I GO IS IT POSSIBLE CAN YOU INCLUDE A DIRECT FOOT CAMERA IN YOUR VIDEOS JUST TO SEE HOW YOUR FEETS ARE MOVING. LOVE THAT CLOSE UP SHOT. AWESOME TEACHER THANK YOU. ❓️👍👀
I can but I promise you my foot isn't doing anything unique or cool, lol. I just put in the hours, it's as simple as that. Thanks for the kind words Larry 🙏🍵🙏🍵
@@mikeslessons sorry I meant to say painting. I feel bad referring it to a pic after seeing the craftsmanship and detail that went into it. That is so INCREDIBLY COOL!!! Thanks for the link.
@@drumsrlife71418 Brother, you have nothing to apologize for. I knew exactly what you meant. It was just easier to send the video instead of typing an explanation of what it actually is, lol.

I've discovered my own licks just to find out some famous drummer stole it from me 20 years before I was born.
100% the life of every artist. Trust me, those legends felt the exact same thing when they saw a clip of Papa Jo or Chick Webb, lol.
Evidence of the Law of conservation of licks😂😂I know that feeling and for those who have not been there yet, you'll definitely pass through that point
