I’ve been playing for a long time and have an arguably successful band but my biggest flaw in progression is hand technique. Would love to see a video on just general hand comfort with the sticks and drills to get comfortable with said grips
@@EeperI had a very similar problem, my grip was not ideal, would get fatigued, hand pain, I was just gripping and hitting way too hard.. It’s very difficult to unlearn things… however I got right down to basics.. loosen up, play singles, doubles, paradiddles extremely slow, I’m talking like 60 bmp, and run through them for long periods of time.. like an hour a day, super boring, but stay at around 60-65 bpm, two days later, move to 65-70, and so on.. focus on a loose grip, leave space within the stick… eventually practice grooves, and be very conscious of your breathing.. I’m telling ya, it’ll help
Timing is a pretty natural one to have trouble with, especially in a band setting. Good news is, just focus on it and it will get better. Visual metronome really helps when I'm playing in a band that doesn't want to use click.
@@StephenTaylorDrums what a relief that it's a common problem and not just me. i will try that out and my bandmates will thank us both. cheers and thanks from Sweden 😀😀
@@StephenTaylorDrums gotta love when they say you were off and unknown to them you followed clicks. Happened to me. It's when you realise, some of it is not about music, but psychology... ;-)
So I’ve been playing for a pretty long time now, and I feel one of my biggest issues is implementing the new things I learn into a real time setting; ie with my band live.. I do keep things rather simple when playing live, cuz I feel the complex stuff just doesn’t fit the music 99% of the time, however there’s always a moment to pull out a big gun fill and I always fall short and revert back to the simple things, then I say to myself, why didn’t I try one of the things I’ve been practicing
I’m one of them there guitar players who bought a drum set, I am now even MORE dangerous than I was before! You don’t yet realize the monster you’ve helped create!
New subscriber here wanting to learn how to play with a question, where could I get a drum set that’s priced 3000-4000? I know nothing about drums but im going to be learning about each part, I don’t even know how to read music sheets!! Lol but I’ll get there once everything’s settled.
What's the biggest problem you have with your drum fills?
im shit!
When the time comes in the song for the fill I get flustered.
I don’t know when to start the fill.

Self taught drummer, i play in a band called Outlied. I have a hard time with the timing when it comes to fills. This helped

One of the best explained material I ever come across. And wise to leave in the typo, I have to say. 🙂 Nice job Stephen!
How the sausage is made!
Great video. Dynamics - and moving the accents - makes such a difference.
Great content, thanks.
Thank you my friend!

You seem like such a great guy. Nice beard, 10/10. Super informative. I'm glad you exist.
Thank you for taking the time to say that my friend
Love that you’re playing Ludwig! Is that a 8x14 Copperphonic?
Yes! Love me some Ludwig, especially the snares. And yes, that's a Luddy Copperphonic 8x14. It's my main horse these days
Great tips as usual. Minor thing: you spelt Melody as Meldoy

@@StephenTaylorDrums it’s grammar lol. Only trying to help. Seriously as a new ish drummer @63 years old, the channel is fantastic.

Al final ya siendo más musical el fill me recordó a la canción de "wooden jesus" by temple of the dog
Yes! Being more musical is what it's all about!
cool vid .Is your snare Tuned ? Stay well
It is...I just let a little more of the ring come through on this one. Maybe a bit too much...but I always am that way lol
@@StephenTaylorDrums Thats cool Bro ...Stay well
The snare sounds great. @@StephenTaylorDrums
