    The 4Runner's back window/hatch arrangement is the one thing I am envious of.

      Yeah it’s really the best design.

      There should be a replacement kit LOL.

    My top thing I hate is that you can’t fit surfboards or lumber or anything that normally sticks out because of the barn door tailgate 😤😑

    Hi ninja!!! Thanks a lot for your videos...! Can I use regular gas on those GX470 or the require only premium gas!?!?! Thanks!

    My '03 dash started cracking. It's a recall issue and they replaced it for free.

      Must have done it around 2017 right?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures

      I think they stopped doing replacements after then :/

      @@lexus_offroad_adventures Possibly. I'm the original owner and received the notification. My leather hasn't torn either though. I'm guessing it's because it's always been garaged and has low mileage. I'll have to keep an eye on that driver's seat and try to take care of it.

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, good plan. I’m sure if you’re not sliding off with all your weight and use the side step, the seats will be fine.

    Wonderful vehicles, but I think if prices of gas don’t fall SOON these GX will become unsaleable V8 dinosaurs…

    Ok, about to sell my 06 GX470 w/ 172K and buy a one owner 05 LR3 HSE HD w/ 105K.
    Comments and reviews are down the middle.
    Thoughts??

      I personally wouldn’t touch a Land Rover with a 50 foot pole lol but I have heard very good things about the capability and comfort of that LR3. It’s just the longevity aspect that would worry me. Research the heck out of everything that can go wrong with them first and be prepared for the maintenance/repairs that will be needed, budget accordingly, and I think it’ll be a fun car to own.

    #2 just wax paint regularly and you live in California so rust is not an issue
    #3 it's a body on frame vehicle that's why originally it had airbags
    #5 if you had a 3rd gen 4runner with glass lenses that won't be a problem
    #6 get a Bluetooth dongle or better yet change the head unit completely but you did a fix already
    I agree with you on all the other points

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah wish I owned these from new. Would definitely have taken better care of the paint.
      The gold one still is on airbags. It’s not a great ride still. Can’t compete with the inherent stiffness and on-road handling of unibody for street use (of course, body on frame is better for off-road use)
      Love 4Runners!
      Yeah that Grom unit works wonders, I’ll get something for the off-road GX soon. Just sucks that I’m without my podcasts and music on long trips until I pull the trigger on something.

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has a solid rear axle. Most cars I’ve driven before getting into GXs have fully independent suspension. It’s not terrible, but noticeable coming from that background.

      These are DEPO sport replacement headlight assemblies. I did an install video here: th-cam.com/video/Mb67HNwiUnw/w-d-xo.html
      Here is a link to the headlights: www.ebay.com/itm/FITS-LEXUS-GX470-W-SPORT-2003-2009-HEADLIGHTS-HEAD-LAMPS-LIGHTS-FRONT-PAIR-NEW-/363114381800?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

    I agree on all of these except ride quality, I have old man emu all the way around and compared to my pops duramax and my work truck dually, the ride is caddy compared to chevys and jeeps

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes absolutely. I’ve driven a Jeep before and it’s an absolute tractor compared to the GX. It’s more as someone coming from more street-oriented cars with unibodies and fully independent suspension front and rear. Just a bit... “trucky”

      Dude just get a Bluetooth transmitter on Amazon for 20 bucks and plug it in . Thr Bluetooth is nice and crispy for something that cheap

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have been told you get a combination of fully capable Overland, plus good street ride quality for its class, married with quiet and comfort, and relatively “sporty” driving compared to a full size truck. That ticks a lot of boxes.
      The trade-offs are of course higher centre of gravity and higher drag coefficient in exchange for ground clearance. The 460s have far less departure and approach angle, and are built slightly less tall in cabin and are also slightly lower, for aerodynamics.
      The one other advantage of all used GX models is they have not been thrashed in Offroad use the way many Toyota 4runners may have been. Generally these were well-kept street vehicles owned by wealthy people who never made use of the ‘overbuilt’ capabilities.
