I'm in the Army and been to few balls but damn it man, that Sergeant Major got skills. Never been to one as cool as this one. Much respect. Awesome leadership.
Best SgtMaj I've had in the 20 years I served. SgtMaj Michael Miller, good guy, cared about people but didn't take shit from no one. He didn't play the political game but did what he could to clean up that unit. I'm thankful to have served with SgtMaj Miller. Funny fact, he actually got married that day, you can see him dancing with his wife Jackie towards the end of the video. Good people. Semper Fi SgtMaj.
Awesome job Sgt Major. You got work done. Kudos to all the Marines who allowed us to view this video, and most importantly. Thank you for your service to our country. Keep on keeping on. I loved it.
How interesting that with all of today's songs to pick from, they're still dancing to MJ classics from the 80's. That really says something. How many of today's songs will have that kind of staying power?
There's even a few MJ inspired moves by the Sgt. Forget what the other guy said about being ashamed or whatever, he's just a troll with nothing better to do. :)
+Tanned Willie A decent chunk. Of course 30 years later we only play the hits. That doesn't mean there wasn't a tonne of utter shite coming out in the 80s. 30 years from now no one will look back and listen to the stuff you hate. Also I mean, 30 years ago there was far less choice in what people could listen to. Most people got their idea of good music from one of a handful of radio stations. Now anyone can go on TH-cam, Soundcloud, iTunes, Spotify and find all sorts of different songs from different genres. That's not to say MJ wasn't amazing, because he was, even at the time, hailed as revolutionary. Depending on the genre though, certain songs from the past 20 years have a lot of staying power. In hip hop, Dr. Dre's stuff in the late 90s, Eminem's stuff in the early 2000s, Outkast etc. still see regular rotation in clubs. Will Smith. From rock, Rage Against the Machine, Queens of the Stone Age, Red Hot Chilli Peppers etc. and then the odd hit like Teenage Dirtbag (which isn't going to go away for a LONG time). From Electro, The Prodigy, Pendulum, Nine Inch Nails, Daft Punk. Darude - Sandstorm even. In pop, a lot of Justin Timberlake's stuff survives, and Beyonce's (e.g. Crazy in Love). It's difficult to look objectively at "nowadays" because we won't know what sticks until we look back. It's also interesting to note that modern popular music is a lot more faddy. We make bassline/garage, make some amazing new sounds, do it to death until we're sick of it, invent dubstep, do that for a few years, get sick of that, invent trap, get sick of that and fall back into deep house etc, whereas in MJ's town it was lots of people making the same sounds for decades and slowly interating, and then we cherry pick the best ones.
I was there for one a few years prior when he was 1sgt Miller he’s almost 50, that was his shit back then. He gave the same performance, been perfecting it for decades, true showmam
Anyone saying or even thinking this is disrespectful are the ones that do not understand that yes these are soldiers but, they are also human. All our service man have earned the right to cut lose. Why do you think it is ok for them to fight for your freedom but, not their own? I LOVE THIS VIDEO AND HOPE TO SEE MORE! Amazing moves and this comes from an old lady.
Well now I feel bad about defending them. Instead of cursing at an old lady why not just simply say yes agreed Marines are human? I have family in most services and they have NEVER disrespected any elderly that I know of for a word mistake. Especially when the old person defended them and appreciated them for what they do. You have taught me a lesson I will not soon forget trust me.
bullpuppies1 Let me say one more thing rather than say respect your elders how about just respect period! I would love the SgtMaj's opinion on this conversation. Do you think he would have told me to get my damn facts straight or thank you for your support?
***** It is sad that so many (in every branch of service) have lost life and limbs so you could attack innocent people. If I was in the service I would never want you or anyone like you defending me. If you are in the service you are a coward hiding behind a screen name hoping your superiors do not find out that you are a pathetic person. We all know that real service men would never treat anyone with such disrespect for no reason unless they where needing a dishonorable discharge and mental health help. I can not help but to wonder if you are a member of the Westboro Baptist Church? As I said before I appreciate all branches of the service and have family in almost everyone as well. You however tim timmy if in any branch are a coward hiding behind a screen name hoping your superiors don't find out how you really treat people. If you are and are found out I am sure you are in fear of a dishonorable discharge and in need of serious mental health help. If you are not we will all sleep better tonight knowing that an insane person with a serious psychotic disorder is not out there pretending to protect us while secretly looking for ways to destroy us.
***** You are making a total ass out of yourself. Your throwing punches when there was no fight. For someone that claims to be a former Marine why are you attacking someone defending Marines? Why are you now wanting to talk about war, IED's, and real warriors? You should really step back, take a deep breath and reread your posts because you are the one attacking for no reason other than you want confrontation. You are trying to make me the bad guy for reasons unknown other than to you (or even you are clueless about it as well). How sad is it that this post went from me defending those in the service being human for not only fighting for our rights but their own rights as well to defending myself against you and your forked tongue. Had I been able to go to war I would have but, because I was not able I am thankful to those brave ones that did, have and are still there. This conversation is going no where but, in circles. You continue to attack me if that makes you feel better but, I will not play your nasty game anymore. I hope that if you are not in therapy you will soon be because you really need to find out where your anger comes from and figure out better ways to deal with it than to attack people that have done nothing wrong. Former Marine or not treating people this way is not normal or acceptable and you should be ashamed of yourself. You acting this way is not doing other Marines any good. If you care about Marines then you should stop telling people you where one or seriously get help.
Beast Mode!!!...SGT MAJ is going in!..I'm a 2nd LT in the Army and I'll tell you what.. If I was there I would be going wild.. HOOAHH to the Marine Core!
This is the 238 birthday anniversary celebration of the Marines. The events are taking place at the Sheraton Convention Center here in Myrtle Beach, SC. This video is from last years event, which I worked as a Banquet Server. I have the honor of serving them again this year as the event is celebrated all month. They are having a great time and dancing their asses off once again!
Justicar funny thing is there were hella NJP’s in the weeks following that. Turned into one of the best units I was ever part of. He cleaned up the previous SgtMaj’s “issues”
@gabriel garcia - Thank you so much for sharing this! As a former Army Soldier who had the privilege of working with Marines during deployments, I have seen the serious side of the duty, and now I had the pleasure of seeing the fun side! Thank you and your fellow Marines for your service!
Never knew that was the former Sgt Miller Golf 2/5 in the early 90's I served with till a reunion we had back in July of 22 .....that is some cool as shit right there ...
This is a must watch video! Especially on today!! It brings back MANY AWESOME memories of us busting out in FULL DANCE MODE TO IMPRESS THE LADIES!! Happy Veteran's Day! Carry on!! Pass this one on and let's make it GO VIRAL!! Carry on gentlemen! Carry on!
I got to attend the Marine Corps ball in 2002 for Camp Lejeune. I can say it was an incredibly memorable event that I will remember the rest of my life. Mind you I was only 12 years old at that event and it was just like this video.
That Is One Cool Ass SgtMaj & I Guarantee Those Marines Respect Him MUCH MORE Than One Of Those Yelling, Stick In The Mud, CO's Puppet SgtsMaj That They Usually End Up With!! Semper Fi Warriors!!
Not only do they kill on the battle field, they kill it on the dace floor wooooooo. Looks like they dont only serve their country, they get served on the stage. Woooooo, one more, one more - they dont only drive the insurgents away, they also drive the crowd crazy wooooo.
Some people were asking about the white trousers... If the ball took place before the seasonal change of uniform, then SNCO's and Officers would have worn white trousers (hence why all the Lance Coolies and NCO's are still seen wearing blue trousers). I watched the video again, and before the video even gets to the one minute mark there is a SSgt wearing white trousers, and an officer (upper right corner of the screen) wearing white trousers as well. Why would the ball take place before the seasonal change in uniform? Many times there aren't enough venues in the area to allow for every unit to hold their ball on or near November 10th. I wore white trousers to a Marine Corps Ball that took place on October 30th (1st MarDiv HQBn, MCB Camp Pendleton). It has only happened to me once in 16 years, but it does happen.
Uniform regs change over time and for the ball they're different from unit to unit. This was CLB 7’s ball, I know cause that was my 1sgt Miller in 2010 when he debatably killed it even harder lol. The whole Corps is getting softer especially this battalion at least when I was in. Was known to all the troops and most ncos as combat laughing battalion or cellblock 7. 29 Palms is the armpit of America, up there with the worst places in the country to live. On top of that command was garbage, had to relieve the bc right when I got there and ppl popping for drugs left and right. Was getting better but I gtfo that mess of desert yetis and yucca monsters. *cringe*
I’m sure you can also confirm, they handled punishment at the lowest level possible, mostly physically instead of writing paperwork for every little thing. I’m sure he had to party it up when he was a young troop to get down like that, now days he would have trouble making staff sgt with just an njp or page 11
Even Odds this was not CLB-7’s Ball, it was VMU-1’s Dining Out in June 2011. We deployed in October, hence the event. SgtMaj Miller left CLB and took over VMU-1 in January 2011. Thanks for letting him come over, easily the best senior enlisted leader I served with in my career. But still....29 Palms is a shithole.
The dance that every Marine does when they get their DD-214
+Tyber Zann LOL
Not this Sgt. I double timed
It's great to see leaders of Marines having fun with their Marines.
Yeah instead of fuckin them over or abusing their power
He's a Motivator!
When you find out you're promoted to Sgt. Major of the Marine Corps
Oml 😂😂😂😂😂😂
+Enrique Camacho Lmao yeah!!
He was the 4th mardiv sergeant major
Legend says they never had to PT again...
casf120 coyly I’m

SylentEcho sorry I’m catching this now. He had some stories from all his units. One of a kind.
He just retired -check out his virtual ceremony on theb4th Marine Division facebook page
syckindahead I recently chatted with him, I’ll give it a watch. Thanks, brother.
SgtMaj Miller is a legend. He was doing what Marines do. He never lost it. Gotta get the party started. Semper Fi SgtMaj!
Awesome job Sgt Major. You got work done. Kudos to all the Marines who allowed us to view this video, and most importantly. Thank you for your service to our country. Keep on keeping on. I loved it.

Amen to this. Absolutely spot-on.

I'd dance like that too if I was E-9
Outstanding display of Camaraderie and enjoying the Marine Corps Ball. Nicely Done SgtMaj!!! Semper Fidelis
Awesome and great fun to see an E9 gettin into it with his peoples. I bet he will never live it down. Thank you for ur service in so many ways.

SgtMaj Miller is a Marines' Marine. And did I mention he can dance! Get em SgtMaj. Thanks for sharing Gabe!

@gabriel garcia - Thank you so much for sharing this! As a former Army Soldier who had the privilege of working with Marines during deployments, I have seen the serious side of the duty, and now I had the pleasure of seeing the fun side! Thank you and your fellow Marines for your service!
Kristyn LNU And thank you for your service. Sometimes even we forget it’s one family, one fight! Semper fi!
This is amazing. Marines [and other service members] are human too and this is a perfect example of that. Semper Fi gentlemen. :]
He was my kill hat MCRD San Diego 1997, Bravo Company.
Never knew that was the former Sgt Miller Golf 2/5 in the early 90's I served with till a reunion we had back in July of 22 .....that is some cool as shit right there ...
EX Army, much respect to all Marines! That guy can dance, good thing I wasn't there, NOT...
SgtMaj and LCpl through Sgt competing on the floor. Now THAT'S GOLD! :D Oorah!
Possibly the coolest Smaj.
Nothing like a man in a uniform who can shake his groove crew!
Not only can they kick your ass, they can also serve your ass up.
This is a must watch video! Especially on today!! It brings back MANY AWESOME memories of us busting out in FULL DANCE MODE TO IMPRESS THE LADIES!!
Happy Veteran's Day! Carry on!! Pass this one on and let's make it GO VIRAL!!

I'm surprised this has not had more views!!
This truly is amazing seeing these gentlemen having a great time. God bless them! They deserve to have fun.
This is the greatest thing I've seen all day. It put a huge smile on my face. Semper Fi Marines!! Happy 238th Birthday!!
This is so fun to watch..look at our real life Iron Men having fun..#DO THE DAMN THING
Nice Dancing.. Nice to see Marines having some fun..
I love him!! It is so awesome to see our great protectors be able to have a few moments of fun.
It is so good to see these Marines having a good time!
Know who my new dance coach is, bet that PT BRUTAL
That Is One Cool Ass SgtMaj & I Guarantee Those Marines Respect Him MUCH MORE Than One Of Those Yelling, Stick In The Mud, CO's Puppet SgtsMaj That They Usually End Up With!! Semper Fi Warriors!!

What a fun video!!! I lOVED IT!!! So nice seeing our servicemen getting down and having fun!
Good job and God bless you guys. This is awesome.
To the Best! Thank you for your service!

This was a a Dining In during the month of June. The unit was preparing to deploy, so there would no ball that year. They did this event instead.
Jacklyn Miller
Great... that explains what I said about the event taking place before the seasonal change of uniform.

Very good! Glad our servicemen can have fun too! Amazing dancers!
Im just glad they are getting to have a fun time
The SGTMAJ schooled those young kids! Hah-hah!
Further proof that Marines can do anything!
It's tough dancing like that in the Marine Dress Uniform. Even swing dancing in them is a little tough to do lol, memories of the Marine Corps Ball.
Solid win for the Marine Corps! So awesome my face hurts!
Happy Birthday, Marines!
That white guy can dance. I wonder if this is what Channing Tatum looked like in his blossoming stages of dance
Someone give that man a medal!
Semper fi Sgt.Maj, show those Devil dogs who's boss!
Birthday Balls are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!
That smile the SgtMaj did though when the LCpl came up to him... It screamed "NJP!"...
