for those wondering about what the hell they are doing:
the leading hand held high and being rotated is the command to the pilot to "spin up" his engines to full power for the launch. he keeps giving the command until the pilot has done that, and conducted a last flight control check, and salutes to show hes ready.
Then the shooter points at all the crew still involved in the launch to confirm they are happy with the launch, and if no one objects, he drops down to give the "fire/shoot" order. the delay between the action and shot is because hes not actually pressing the button, thats another bloke off on the side of the deck, who keeps his hands up away form the controls until the shooter drops.
the reason everything is so overblown is its a really loud environment, with a jet on full military power screaming to fly, and everyone is busy, and possibly tired form many hours of very high concentration work, so hand signals are big, loud and obvious so they cant be mistaken.
the dancing is just for fun, though.

@@rumrnr78 Literally every country with aircraft carriers uses a variation of this system. There's just not too many ways to efficiently communicate information in that environment, particularly when you consider that basically every major nation has to train for the possibility of working with foreign soldiers who might not speak your language. For example, if NATO is called into a third world war, you could absolutely expect to see French sailors on occasion filling manpower shortages on British ships. Same goes for Russia, even internally. For example, Tatars, Buryat, Bashkar, and Chechens all speak different languages. Of course, almost everyone in those regions also speaks Russian, but would you bet your life on that chance? Because I wouldn't

To anyone who doesn’t know, the shooters are pilots themselves but assigned to ship duty! This is part of how they can move up to be captains, air bosses. Brown shoes is the sign to look for, it also explains the mentality of Navy pilots being some wild crazy people! I got to work alongside many of these wild people being an enlisted ships company in the Air department. The hardest workers though are the green shirts putting in sometimes 18-24 hours a day depending on if they had to change the wires. They were some of the only people you’d see sleeping in a puddle of grease just to get some shut eye.

On my first Westpac back in 1981 Chief asked me if If I was all set for deployment, yep Chief but is there anything I should leave behind for extra room in my locker? Well just pack all your morals in your seabag and leave them on the end of the pier, where we're going you won't need them and they will still be setting on the pier when we get back! Wikipedia says the "shooters" are pilots as well. They look to be pointing to various crew on the flight deck to make sure they are aware that the launch is taking place, and then gives the command for the pilot that he's clear. He doesn't look like he's holding anything so I guess the pilot has control. In one scene you can tell he's stalling, it looks like he's waiting for another launch you can see in the background.
