I have a notion to second that emotion ! Julie surely has the patience of a saint ! She & the rest of the BBB team do a wonderful job with these informative and VERY entertaining videos !! :-)
doing these videos can be very exhausting.. you have to think faster, and trying not to laugh in their faces its so hard.. (used to do these myself but became more ill) in my case having to concentrate so much and not let real information pass. it can be tough.. especially if you do long scambaits (over an hour at a time)
My kid picked up the phone one day and it was a scammer like these guys. I burst out laughing when my then 11 year old son told the guy "Dude, there is no way a guy who sounds like you is really named John."
Finding these scam callers getting short on patience 😅 Latest utility scam call, after runng him around the block, he screams at me " Your wasting my time" my response was dude you called me. ! Wonder if they have mental health benefits lol😅 Love your channel !
Thank you for this! Not only is Julie absolutely charming but the service this branch of the B.B.B. is performing for Wisconsin and the nation is admirable and appreciated. Thanks again! Wait a minute: you gave them MY NUMBER :-( :-( :-(
Thank you for creating awareness of these tech scams. These scammers accent clearly show they are in India. According to Microsoft 86% of tech scams originate from India from these cities: New Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Kolkata, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Deharadun.
Hello Julie, I found one of your video's about scammer's and ended up watching a few of them. I think "Richard" really likes you!!!! LOL, that was funny your very good at your job. I don't know how you do it I would end up laughing at them. I'm a retired (disabled actually) truck driver (18 wheeler) due to having a very severe case of Lupus (SLE) which cost me my living back in 2009. But, I wanted to touch on one thing you mentioned at the end of this video about allowing "remote control" of your computer. I deal with one of the top major computer companies and from time to time have had problems I couldn't fix and called them and they did "remote access" so it is possible for them to do it and be alright just make sure you know who your talking too. In this case where I give access I called them and I've worked with this company for many yrs.. I don't want to give the company name out with my luck someone would try calling me but I have also been burned once with the "access control" but they called me and were from N.Y.. I will have to come back and watch some more of your video's. I've actually learned a few things as well. Thank you and if I may close out by saying you are a very good looking lady!! But, I'm not going ti try to pull anything about you out of you...........................Hope your weekend was good.
I swear I’m learning so much watching your videos!! I’m not kidding. Sadly, I usually watch TH-cam for drama, and stupid stunts/challenges, but your videos actually really teach me something!! My dad will be so proud! Lol not joking 💋
there is a TH-camr named Each&Everything and he has animations and sounds fx for achievements like saying X or doing Y. th-cam.com/video/ltsBOz2JEzM/w-d-xo.html Enjoy in case you don't already know
There is an exception to your rule about giving someone remote access to your computer. I did let my very dear friend do that with me to fix something I messed up. She lives too many miles away to just pop over. Other than that I totally agree with you. BTW I've been noticing that in general people don't use the thumbs up button enough, not just with your channel but it's that way on many channels. Anyway, thumbs up to you. And have a happy day.
Legitimate tech support departments and companies do indeed use remote access software, it's done all the time. You need to make sure you know who the company is though. If they need to put you on hold when you ask where they are located then it's probably not a company you want to allow snooping around on your computer.
Hey Julie!! I absolutely love your videos. Just one small thing.. I was having some trouble with a software of mine and I contacted their customer support and they actually requested remote access to look at and fix the issue. And they did, they looked at it, and they fixed it. So "never allow remote access" is both true and not true. In general, absolutely yes. But...
lol nope, they just logged into my pc and took control, played around with the settings and experimented for a bit and got it running again. No charge, and no syskey hehe.
I work for an ISP as customer support and do this with my customers as well but I only do it if they are comfortable with that, and don't pressure them. Sometimes it's easier to look at things yourself instead of trying to get someone to do it for you over the phone. But there's always a risk so if you're uncomfortable, a good support rep won't pressure you. We also never charge our customers. Some companies do though, like linksys.
Basically they want to connect to the computer to try to convince you that there are issues by opening up errors in Event Viewer and "foreign" IP addresses in Command Prompt, both of which are completely normal. Then they have you go into your online bank account to try to convince you they've transferred lots of money (which they haven't) that you are then asked to pay back in gift cards. Sometimes they'll just ask for money straight up by offering a made up service which includes 'anti hacking security' and other things.
My dad got one of these a few years ago. His "computer" had a virus on it. He kept them on the phone for like 45 min. The Tech person was certain that my dad didn't know what he was talking about, when he said he didn't own a computer, as he (tech) knew he did.
Tip: Support.me is a domain that redirects you to a different website. It’s not their website that they made. It helps them connect to your computer and basically do whatever they want with it like change your computer passwords, delete/view/modify files, or check into your online bank accounts.
Keep up the good work. That being said, plenty of legitimate websites have addresses that end in something other than .COM, .ORG, .GOV. Every country has their own internet country code Canada .CA, Great Britain .GB, France .FR .... Not necessarily a sign of anything evil.
So, support.me is a shortcut domain that logmein created as a quick way to provide remote support. You can see it redirects to logmeinrescue.com. They sell that as a service to other companies. It's great for internal support within a company to sign into a fellow employee's machine to get them up and running again, or into a customer's machine to help them out with issues. Unfortunately, scammers are also using the free trials of the service and abusing it. People at home should never allow remote access to their computer. You're 100% right there. Just hate to see logmein get a bad rap.
Hey rogerrabt, thanks for the clarification with that! Unfortunately we aren’t tech support ourselves and weren’t aware of that. It is sad to see services like this used for scams!
Good point! And more generally, I was just browsing through the comments to see if anyone would bring up the point regarding the statement Julie made about the top level domains (TLDs). Today, as seemingly endless new TLDs are available, by no means are the "old" TLDs (i.e., .com/.org/.net/.gov) the only "legit" ones. Suggesting so unnecessarily scares people from using sites with any of the new TLDs. Sure, you should expect the U.S. government services to be under .gov, and most financial services to be under .com, but beyond that - and especially in the domains of many internet/tech services - new TLDs abound.
Wisconsin holy shit lol put of thousands of videos I have sent a reply too, you guys were the only ones to actually mention my name in a reply! I'm constantly getting scam calls all the time I've registered my number on the no call list in Toronto canada and nothing seems to work! Any advice?
@@Jack-tv3tg unfortunately the only piece of advice we can really give for that is to not answer calls from phone numbers you don't know. If a scammer finds out the number is active, they will mark it as active and keep calling. They also might sell your "active" phone number to other scammers. We're not sure if you have this in Canada, but there are call blocking services that phone companies sometimes provide. You might be able to ask your carrier for that. Good luck! Your printer isn't working. 1. is it plugged in? 2. is it connected, physically, through a cable to your pc? 3. is it supplied with paper and ink? 4. is there a flashing icon somewhere on your desktop? If you get to question 4, only then can a tech help you. They don't need to access your pc, and they can talk you through any software fix that doesn't require a printer driver update. If you're running Win 10, your updates are forced on you, you know because Win 10 was "free."
I have dealt with these who need a customer id. They are trying to stop scambaters by asking for an id.. ps support.me is a genuine piece of software that is often used by scammers unfortuantely
Thanks for the clarification with the support software! Unfortunately I’m sure you can tell that we aren’t IT people 😅 Scammers will use whatever they can get their hands on, won’t they?
Yeah. I know they aren't real tech support and are scammers who will syskey you. I even tested one with a very simple problem on a virtual machine which they couldn't fix. I had a command prompt popup maker (which I even left open in a cmd window).... ie "popupmaker.exe -p 'this is a fake popup window saying you have a virus' " Totally dumfounded.
