      i learned this in a game called metal gear solid. ironically the enemy is your former group called FOXHOUND lol but instead of starting the step on the ball of the foot, you use the heal then gradually rest the the outside of the foot if you wanna keep moving, same way you do it.

      There are some things for surviving any situation
      You never know when things are going to go bad and that is why it is important that you ensure that you have some knowledge about the survival skills in order to keep yourself and your family safe when things go awry. Most of the people just think that these situations are not going to happen but the truth is that these situations can happen any time and it is not just for the end of the world but you would need such survival skills even in times of natural calamities as well and that is why it is important for you to learn such skills and we would be highlighting 3 of such important skills.
      1. Have food stock:
      2. Find a shelter:
      3. Know the dangers:
      (I learned these and why they work from Marla survive system website )

    This is pretty much what my grandpa taught me when I was a kid. I lived with him on a Cherokee reservation for a few years and he got me into the habit of walking like this so much that I've been unintentionally sneaking up on people pretty much my whole life. Walking like this works to move silently even when you're not in the woods. Obviously I don't lower myself when not trying to be quiet, but I everything else I still do on the regular.

    Me and my friends play a game called Stalker and it's pretty much a game where there are two teams of two, one team is trying to survive as long as they can and the other has to capture them (grab or tackle) to win as fast as possible. We go all out, black outfits, going places during the day to memorize good ambush spots for Hunter team. Pretty fun.

    Some of us (Old) archers have been hunting in socks for years . Old multiple layered socks are great , very quiet and disposable . We called it "Indian walking" back in the day . You have the technique down pretty good . Another trick in very dry areas , it the skitter method . You know you are going to make noise so you place your foot in a series of quick taps to imitate a squirrel or other animal . This was a very good video . ( Perfect your walk at night in the dark ) Learn to feel the forest floor !

    So I literally just tried this right now at 3:00 AM
    In my hard wood floor home
    With heavy duty military boots with a carbon safety toe.
    After getting over the generally awkward position of kneeing down a bit and focusing all my weight into one foot whilst trying to accurately land the motions of my feet to follow your instruction, I did notice a significant reduction in noise generated. It was a slow pace from my room to my kitchen (no more than 15 feet at best) but that's clearly just because I've never done this before.
    On my way back, the only noise generated by my steps was the creasing of the boots leather and a light "clack" as my boots touch the hardwood floor. HOWEVER, I actually managed to completely eliminate the clack by going in heel first, but sliding into the step rather than stepping. I slide my heel in, and when it touches the floor, gently bring my toe down.
    Now of course, this is not a forest where sound travels a lot clearer and there's a lot of forest debris to step on, but I found the experience interesting anyways.

    • @frikkiesmit2695
      @frikkiesmit2695 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes your boot technique with heel down first then your foot is a 'rolling' technique. That works. We had a whole weekend in fields walking like that

  • @rebelwolf99
    @rebelwolf99 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I learned a similar walk from watching cats stalking prey. they place their paws down toes first and feel the terrain before fully seating the paw rolling onto the pad as you have shown. I've done this walk for years in stiff boots and it always amazes me how close I can get to some animals. it's marvelous learning from nature. very handy for photography!

  • @wardeni9603
    @wardeni9603 6 ปีที่แล้ว +406

    In the finnish army we were taught a similar technique, but a faster one. Bend your knees, hold your weight on the backfoot, but then put your heel on the ground and "roll" over that foot so that your weight transfers from your heel to your entire foot and finally onto your toes. It's also silent, but once you've done it a bit you can move very fast, at almost a jogging speed.

    • @reddragonflyxx657
      @reddragonflyxx657 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Is it accurate to say that you step forward with the outer edge of your heel touching the ground first before pitching your foot forward while rolling inward to have your foot flat on the ground?
      I'd like to learn this trick. There's a trail near my home that's too long for a slow walk like in this video and usually is surrounded by wildlife that gets scared off by crackling twigs.

    • @wardeni9603
      @wardeni9603 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      +RedDragonflyxx yes, the first part of your foot that hits the ground is the very back end of the heel, and then you roll over the foot. That way you can also feel if there's anything under your foot and stop your step before your weight goes on it

    I have heard this called Indian walking. I call it barefoot walking as that is where I learned it first. If you learn to walk barefoot it's always toe to heel as that is the best way to avoid placing your foot in something irregular and hard, (like a Lego in the middle of the night), as you have more time for your foot to sense such an impediment. Side effects are cats who do not fear getting stepped on and people who swear you are a ninja even though your eighty pounds overweight.

    • @ZanesFacebook
      @ZanesFacebook 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      piwright42 except that when you're eighty pounds overweight it doesn't matter if you step heel or toe first cause you're obviously not in a trained physical state to react efficiently to either 😜

    • @Wolf1377
      @Wolf1377 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      piwright42 I always walk that way when barefoot. It was a necessity for walking barefoot on gravel roads in Arkansas when I was a kid. I could even run barefoot down a gravel road and it didn't hurt my feet. You just had to watch where you put them.

    • @MissMeganBeckett
      @MissMeganBeckett 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I walk barefoot at cottages and camping. My mom always can’t believe I can walk on the gravel without pain 🙄 I walk like that indoors too. I have been walking like that since I was a child, you would think that mom would have gotten used to me not yelping when walking on gravel surfaces, 🙄 but no she’s surprised every single time 😒seriously memory of a goldfish.

      MissMeganBeckett goldfish have an incredible memory for their size. I believe you were referencing their attention span. An experiment was done in which a group of goldfish was taught how to play a game with a floating object, and they were completely removed from said object for a span of (I believe) 3 years. The moment said object was placed back in the bowl, they had begun to play with it once more as if it was removed for only a moment. The exact same way it was taught.

      +shazzzam79 Oh you have such a great point there. There are so many shoes that I flat refuse to wear because of how they are colored. I don't care if it's a great shoe or not. I have started wearing Eddie Bauer hikers because so far they are the best I have found and the soul actually wraps up and over the toe which is great since I work on my knees all day as a flooring installer. I just can't wear them out. They would not do however as a running shoe so I'd have to find something better to fit the bill but earth tone running shoes without bright swatches or colors are near impossible to find so far.

      +shazzzam79 I am thinking the reason for the clown colors and reflectors are for the gangs here in the states. Easier for the police to follow. Simply walk along and catch a gang member. I say walk because the gang members can't run. They wear their pants too low to the ground... :-) I agree though, would be nice to have just solid colors. I guess this younger generation enjoys looking like a Ringling Brothers clown.. :-)

    GOOD "HOW TO" VIDEO ! Also, always pay attention to the terrain - lots of dry leaves & fallen twigs will make silent walking virtually impossible. Stay on grassy areas, or those with moss which will reduce footstep noise. Avoid areas of low brush which will scratch against your clothes, and which also can hide snakes. IF TRYING TO ELUDE SOMEONE, stop at regular intervals and LISTEN. You should be able to hear THEM, and move in the OPPOSITE direction. IF ALL ELSE FAILS, hide in place - keep low, and cover yourself with leave or brush.

    Well done Lilly, well done. I didn't know anyone knew how to do this any more. I was taught this in the early 1960's while wearing the old Converse All Stars. Proceeding slowly into the wind, always into the wind, you can walk down deer and elk, almost every time. Be mindful that using this technique you can walk up on bears, and be very close to them before either of you know the other is there. Keep up the good work, and Merry Christmas:-).

    • @jasonpatterson8091

      She's walking across wet, almost bare ground. This would not be as silent if the few leaves that are present were dry. Dry leaves, particularly a solid cover of dry leaves on a still day, are extremely difficult to sneak through. Cold, dry snow is far worse - there's no other natural noise that sounds like a foot crunching through it and you wind up getting tired just walking.

      The common type of foot wear in the middle ages was knows as a turn shoe, a shoe that is shaped your your foot and made of soft leather. These types of shoes are different to modern day shoes because modern day shoes have a thick rubber sole allowing us to land on our heels as we stride. The soft turn shoes lacked these heels and soles, thus you had to land on the ball of your foot (tuning with your heel bone slamming into the ground sucks).

    Actually you _can_ walk silent even with heavy boots. I wear very heavy protective boots (the kind which protects you from fire, stepping on nails and/or heavy objects falling onto your feet) and I still can walk with them on a typical dirt-ridden road or something similar and sneak up even onto persons who I deliberately use as sparring partners and told them to even _expect_ me. There is a HUGE difference between sneaking up onto someone who doesn't expect you and someone who has been told upfront that you're trying to sneak up within the next 5 minutes or so. First one is WAY easier than trying to sneak up to someone who is already on "high alert". I managed to do both with my heavy boots. It all comes down to being familiar with what you're wearing. Someone who isn't used to heavy security boots will have a hard time sneaking up while for me it's easy, because I wear them everyday. I even go dancing with them. If you can walk as lightly as someone who is barefoot with your shoes on... you have mastered these shoes. :D

    This is a good method for stalking your targets. I highly suggest going barefoot though. You get a better feel of the ground and it's easier to also miss twigs that you might not see right away. Also, do a lot of lunges on your toes to build balance.

    honestly I suggest going barefoot, you can be dead silent easily like that as you start to walk more naturally. Getting foot injuries isn't an issue if you got good walking feet.

      I learned that I'm a total tenderfoot. I step lightly and dantley in my yard avoiding sharp twigs or what ever; while my wife can run barefoot on friggin gravel, no lie, wtf arr her feet made of? They even look softer than my feet.

      chainer8686 Im not tenderfooted but I've been going barefoot all my life, which might have something to do with it.

    A friend told me that the Indians-Some of them-made a practice of sewing a pebble into the heel of each of their children's moccasins. That trained them to avoid the "Heel-Toe"-or more precisely "Heel-First-Then-Rock-The-Weight-Onto-The-Ball-of-The-Foot" motion that Civilized people who wear shoes with both thick soles and a generous heel naturally tend to habituate themselves to. I had Heel spurs for awhile and it definitely cried me of dropping my weight onto my heel.
