    This is such a treat to watch a horse be brought up, slowly and lovingly. I can’t wait to see you two grow together and go on many adventures. I’m so happy for a new and positive start for you.

    After working with horses for over 40 yrs., I still get excited with working with the young ones. Keeping calm, but aware is the key to having a great horse later. If they are happy pleasing you, they will give you their heart and soul. And keeping no schedule for their advancement, because each horse is different. No 2 or 3 things work for every horse, because they are as individual as human beings. I loved seeing the progression in 4 days that you did with Zora, because there was no schedule, but you corrected when needed, you let her think about what you were asking, and the change from Monday to Thursday, shows this. I now work solely on rehabilitation of horses from injury or surgery. And I also help with every birth at our barn every year. Best Regards from Ontario, Canada, Jenn.

    “She did try to kick me” she says non chalantly. This is why non horse people think we’re crazy XD

  • @Lovefrommetoyou
    @Lovefrommetoyou 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    By letting her stand whenever she goes a little crazy, you teach her that she gets calmness when she runs. Its more logical to let her run as much as she wants and as soon as she slows down and walks slow and seems calm you bring her in. You need to give her the idea of beeing calm by giving her calmness when she calms down. Bc that is what you want.
    But i like that you dont only just ride her, you care about her brain and the communication. I like this a lot!

    • @christinewaters7977
      @christinewaters7977 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One different way to interpret it is this: She wants to run because she is stressed and going into flight mode. By breaking up those thoughts with the distraction of asking for something- yield the hind end, look at me. She has to stop that fast, stressed thinking and focus on the person on the ground. Then, by relaxing herself, she gets a break and therefore a reward.
      I go back and forth on what the right thing to do in these situations is, but at the end of the day it depends on the horse. If she wants to run, and you let her run, there's no teaching moment there. If she gets tired of running and decides to stop, that again isn't her listening to you but simply doing whatever she likes.
      Just my 2 cents!

    • @Lovefrommetoyou
      @Lovefrommetoyou 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christinewaters7977 youre right. Taking her mentaly out of her fear (or whatever it causes to run) gives her a „breakout“. But i think it would he better to show here that there is nothing to be afraid of.
      So: If the human stays calm (as a leader of a herd would stay when there is nothing wrong) the horse THINKS about it. So that way it has a positive feedback when it calms down. Next time it starts to run it will more and more think „ah maybe i overreact“ and tries to keep up with the leader (the human). When you always react to things the horse shoulndt do it will remember that stressy behavior gets the human‘s attention. Always stay calm and be „wiser“. If you start arguing you are not strong enough to lead and keep the horse away from danger. Thats how horses think. Pretty simple though.

    • @Lovefrommetoyou
      @Lovefrommetoyou 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christinewaters7977 and to your last sentence. Horse communication isnt about thinks you teach the horse and it listens. Its about getting to know their body öanguage and learn how to react to things as horses would do in nature. Have you ever seen a herd leader beeing angry at a spooking horse? They ignore it when they dont see any danger. :)

    Hi Miri, I absolutely love watching you work with your horses, it’s so refreshing to see someone really put the time into groundwork. Just wondering where did you learn your groundwork pattern? Is it something you developed yourself or is it based off a programme/training method I can find out more info about online? Hope this makes sense! I have a horse that I’m sure this would work wonders on an I’d love to give it a go. X

    I agree about horse training in Germany. I am from Germany and am familiar with the " Business " They don't get much time.. Sometimes they get saddled from totally green and just put in an arena to run and buck and then comes a person, gets on and tries to ride out the buck. It's terrible and some horses are traumatized. Not everybody does this but a lot who are " Big in the business " That's why i changed to western. I did not want to be around that anymore.
