Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is getting a remaster...so now it's time to remaster my battle fanfare remix!! 💫
I can't believe how long ago I made this mashup/remix...my original upload date was in October 2015! It's such an incredible feeling seeing how much my music career has grown, plus hearing the improvement in mixing & mastering is something I'm SUPER proud of! I hope you all enjoy this EPIC mashup banger of two of the best RPG battle fanfare themes with brand-new mastering!
ALSO - some of the game footage is from my brother, @Kappy0he's a professional Paper Mario 64/TTYD Challenge Runner & has some insanely awesome content revolving the Paper Mario series!

I'm unbelievably stoked to replay the Paper Mario: TTYD remake - 20 years later after its initial release in 2004. I know there was lots of hate towards Nintendo's latest direct since a majority of the new releases are all remakes...but I gotta say, the remakes that are in development are games that have tons of replay value, and the fact that Nintendo saw an opportunity to re-create a GameCube title that's in my top-3 GC games of all time is a huge W! (and I've rarely, if ever, seen any negative reviews about Paper Mario: TTYD)

Haha same man I’ve beaten Paper Mario both N64 & TTYD at least a combined total of 15 times or so, _such_ a great game!! After the amount of years of putting into music production, i’m super happy with this new master, and now won’t be afraid to play this live because it actually sounds on par with my other music releasing now haha

Tbh I really liked the way the other video sounds, but this version sounds so *clean* man I love it
I can respect that! I will say, that type of sound 8 years ago does not represent my current sound, so this feels a lot more cohesive with the rest of my catalogue! When I reopened the project after this many years there were _soooooo many_ mixing mistakes that I was careless of when I was first starting music production - i’m very proud of this new remaster! 💫

I can't believe how bad that original version sounds now that I physically own a subwoofer & professional monitors...ahh the days of remixing with only headphones thinking my music sounded good 😅

Why I feel like I'm in a nintendo club or something? that switch was so smooth to N64 and made me go "oooooooooo" like as if I have a drink in my hand on the dance floor

Holy moly, Player2, this is off-the-rails!! It's so exciting to see a remaster of the most innovative and high-energy Paper Mario remix. This is spectacular, both in its own right, and for the improvements you've made from your original iteration! It's heartwarming to see you take such pride in your growth, as both an online presence and music producer - I'm very proud of you, as well!
The way you weave the themes together so seamlessly is really something special. I'm pretty certain the two battle themes are very close or identical in tempo, but I know that they're in different keys, so it's hugely impressive that you've bridged the two songs so well in spite of that. And the transitions are so tight! I love how you segue into the N64 battle theme with a clip of the OST version; it's one thing to utilize sound effects (more on those later), but to take part of the original track and have it fit so snugly into the mix is next-level! Seriously, I can't get enough of that transition at 1:05 - and then you did it again at 2:53 with some sick new variations. And then, wooh! it's awesome that you integrated the OG glissando for your transition into the TTYD theme at 1:48, as well as the intro... it's perfect! Speaking of which, I love how the remix comes full-circle, too, both leading off and ending with the Thousand-Year battle theme - the song feels so complete, the way it's structured.
Your instrument choices here are superb, and I like how they're true to your sound style, yet reminiscent of the original games. In particular, I love that whistle instrument at 1:32, and how it plays that iconic riff - it sounds so close to the official instrumentation, but just slightly different, which means you've really found a great match for it! I'm a big sucker for instruments that fall into that familiar-yet-fresh territory, and I hear that throughout the arrangement, like at 1:18 (with that upward note slide) and the combination of lead instruments at 0:13 when that higher octave joins in. But wow, the assortment of bright and punchy EDM sounds in tandem with all that ear candy (like that retro flourish at 0:59) is just a delight to listen to. Truly, a brilliant fusion of fidelity and freshness!
As always, the percussive elements are a strong point among strong points. The constant build-ups and rhythmic switch ups keep things dynamic from start-to-finish. Throughout it all, the steady kick keeps things moving and really anchors the track. And on the topic of build-ups, you never fail to bring smiles with your signature delayed drop, like at 2:55, where the drums hold back for a phrase. The layering in the drums is so good, and the hits are dense and textured, without ever being peaky or overbearing - testament to your incredible mixing skill. Also, those SFX! There are too many cool instances to name specifically, but some of my favorites include that power-up sound effect at 0:18, followed by the N64 jump on the upbeat; that sequence of healing & Star Spirit sounds at 1:18; that absolutely _brilliant_ cursor sound used rhythmically at 2:08; and of course Peach's laugh at 3:08 - that was such a fun detail! 😁
Also, the coordination between your visuals and key moments in the music is some of your best yet! Besides having the aforementioned Peach giggle, you also have that quick cameo in the corner as chaos unfolds on the screen. The way the visuals reflect the game whose battle theme is Now Playing is a great aspect, and I like how you also extended the display to include the stage background for each game, too! It's a neat way of preserving the OG aspect ratio while adding to the nostalgic goodness. And holy heck, there are some really dope moments where the visuals correspond perfectly to the music, like where the Fuzzy swarm gets crushed at 0:46 (with the accompanying sound effect, no less), or how that lovely 100-Star Point bonus gets counted up during the buildup at 0:57... like, seriously, it boggles my mind how you always keep coming up with these insanely creative details in both the music and visuals. Your ingenuity knows no bounds!
I've likely mentioned this before, but Paper Mario 64 is my all-time favorite video game, so I always have high hopes for remixes from that game's OST, and this really just blew my already-sky-high expectations out of Star Haven! I'm super psyched for the TTYD remake, as well, and it's also exciting to be introduced to your brother - his content sounds right up my alley! Thank you for this gem of a remix, and keep up the fantastic work, my friend! 🌟

I'm shocked that they blended as well as they do; I think what makes them both sound good together is that they're both in a major key - even though both songs may not be in the exact same signature, they each share a number of notes that somehow sounds as if it's part of one big giant song, haha! I was unsure if I should have ended the song with the bassline of the N64 PM, but It felt natural going back to the TTYD melody with a nice pluck sound. Could have gone either way, though!
One of the main differences between my previous remix & this one was my old remix didn't have nearly as many good instrumental choices - this new one now perfectly matches the originality of both themes, while still having that extra spice of modern-ness! For a remix that was produced nearly 8 years ago, this one now sounds align with my current catalogue, as well, since I was only producing with headphones back then...and now this song finally has a clean, tight bassline to match the mid- & high-frequency instruments!
And speaking of how bad the original sounded, I almost had zero drum fills & just kept the basic four-on-the-floor pattern the entirety of the remix, so eventually it just got stale. I've enhanced both sections with extra drum fills & transitional FX to keep the listener engaged - honestly after hearing this new version as many times as I have now, I almost can't even think about listening to the original, haha! But, that's why I did try to keep some of the elements from the previous remix for those that are nostalgic of the original remix!
Oh yes and to top off the visualization, the older video had the stretched out widescreen look which looked SO BAD compared to keeping the aspect ratio to 4:3 & adding a background because that's what the pixels were designed for! I'm glad you saw that detail of preserving the original aspect ratio because it truly does make a difference!
I don't know if I knew Paper Mario 64 was your favorite game!! That's good to know, as I know for sure I'll be remixing more Paper Mario both N64 & TTYD content as we get near the release of the new TTYD. That was actually the biggest complaint of the previous video; it was too annoying to listen to because of all the background SFX. Now I was able to add some with intention of it being part of the song, rather than the background footage, haha.

Question / idea for you! I LOVE all the remasters - BUT I also like listening to some of your original videos you’ve made too! (And as a music guy, I also appreciate comparing to see the difference). I remember this original video in particular being a really special one to me. Would you consider uploading the original versions of some songs (here or some other channel or something) so we can still listen to the original versions as well??
That is a fantastic idea - it’s my own personal perfectionist inside me that doesn’t want to older remixes on the internet so that if someone stumbles upon my channel & the remaster is the first impression versus the old version, i’d feel like that listener would convert more than someone hearing a song from 7+ years ago 😅
However, with that said, i do appreciate the idea of wanting to hear the original versions for comparison reasons - let me look into this for next year ‘cause I’m actually planning on remastering a bunch more music next year, so I super appreciate your feedback!

Now why does THIS sound familiar? The original has been saved on my phone since it came out, so this was an excellent nostalgic surprise.
Also, I love love LOVE the sound effects thrown in there randomly, but you could have gone crazy with it. If you haven't moved on already, I'd absolutely challenge you to create a notable section of the (either) song using ONLY sfx.
Haha you know what’s funny - the original’s sound effects were actually the biggest complaint because there was too much! I decided to tame down the SFX this time so they had more purpose instead of the randomization, haha. That’s a great challenge, I’ll definitely try that out - though I can’t guarantee it’ll ever get finished 😆

I super agree, the Mario & Luigi series is awesome, but nothing can take away the experience of playing Paper Mario N64 for the first time. Such an amazing game! And typically sequels are worse than the original, then Nintendo released TTYD which was the _perfect_ example of what the Paper Mario sequels should've all been like! I understand the need to adapt with new functions, but nothing will beat the simplistic combat of Paper Mario N64 & TTYD!

i love this mashup, but i'm kind of bummed you didn't try to combine the two themes. don't get me wrong, i love this remix! but it would've been super cool to hear the two themes sync up in a cool way. you could've even used TTYD64 footage for the background, it would've been perfect!
That’s a great idea! I’m nowhere near the skill level of being able to combine two completely separate songs into one, rather than just going from one into the other; plus - it’s my understanding that both these songs are juuuust in key enough to sound good on their own, but not sure how they’d sound melodically as one cohesive song. (Also, I didn’t know TTYD64 was a thing until literally a few days after posting…ugh! The possibilities!!)

This was so good I want to add 2 weeks instead of one to the counter, 12 weeks isn't bad though. Let's see if 13 can be lucky in this case. The transitions between them were so smooth. This is number 1495302 on the games I need to play (just kidding I think it's only 10 games).

Yes, unfortunately after hearing how much the mixing was improved in this version, I'd rather have this be the one that people discover first if anyone searches for this specific remix, rather than having the option of clicking the previous version. Plus, the thumbnail, title & metadata are all updated for better SEO optimization.
The older video was outdated & doesn't reflect my current quality of music - with that said, I did preserve a majority of the sounds from the original remix in this version so it's still very close to the same remix...just new-and-improved! I hope you understand my decision, and am honored to hear how much you enjoyed the previous remix!! I hope this remaster can still provide you with the same nostalgic feeling as the first! 💫

It seemed like a singing battle, both songs are very good, but the paper mario ttyd one is better.
I respect your opinion! I do like TTYD's more, but ultimately both of these battle themes are very similar, as they're comically fun with a variety of melodic arpeggiation to keep the listener intrigued during battle!
