- Found this VHS in dad's attic, sorry the transfer looks so blurry. Used to watch as a kid. Anyone else remember this show?
The D-Dogs is an American action-adventure television series, running from 1984 to 1985, about a fictitious former private army who, after being almost completely wiped out by rival company XOF, return nine years later to work again as soldiers of fortune. After two successful seasons, the show was abruptly cancelled due to showrunner Hideo Kojima's removal from the project.[1] A long-rumored third season was finally confirmed by project staff years later, and can be glimpsed on TH-cam in rough form, where much of the story would have been wrapped up.[2] A video game based on the series was released by Konami in September 2015.

Not kidding, I would pay big bucks for a TV show about The Diamond Dogs with an 80s prime time TV show style where nobody gets killed, the bad guys couldn't hit jackshit and there will always be a good message in the end of each episode
No, I want 1980s TV show quality and Rambo or RoboCop style violence.

*A TV show to surpass metal gear.*
If you notice when they went and put starring they put big boss it's not big boss it's Ahab which of course I'm sure as you know is not Big Boss but what do you think about the movie they're making for metal gear solid?
@@xavierbelmont8935 yes but you have to remember, this is a spoiler
@@superhimechan531 it's not a spoiler it's supposed to be a funny intro. Not to mention it doesn't matter regardless they screwed up and they should have paid attention better before they put big boss when it clearly wasn't Big Boss. It was venom Snake so either the person who made this have never played the game before or they didn't give a fuck when they made this it's one of the two.
@@xavierbelmont8935 I screwed up myself I didn't relay that "Big Boss" not being Big Boss was what I was referring to. Because that was supposed to be the big twist at the end. That you were playing as Big boss's double from the very First game. And the real Big Boss was out there building His "Outter Heaven"
I do agree tho
They should have said Venom snake like the credits in the actual game do
@@superhimechan531 the only problem with that is is that in Metal Gear Solid 5 ground zeros you are playing Big Boss. And Metal Gear Solid 5 phantom pain however you are not playing Big Boss. Except for the small segment in the hospital. After you actually beat the game for the first time.

I like how it said "Mac and Crowd as DD", the dogs that did DD's motion capture
Wow
So let me get this straight
The franchise started with a movie in 1964
Followed by a sequel in 1972 that no one really remembers
And then a 1974 miniseries that was better then everyone says it is
Followed by an overhyped made for tv special and nine years after that D-dogs came out
Then there were two ok anime entries to the franchise with a bad English dub
Then there was the most famous entry in the series the 1998tv series
Followed by the 2002 miniseries that got really weird near the end and all the hard core fans debate over
Followed by the conclusion in the 2008-14 series that wrapped up the series with a neat little bow
Then there was the 2012 remastered edition of the franchise
And the 2015 spin off about the robot ninja and that new trash coming out about zombies
That mini series is like the argument of Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi lolol
Correct me if I'm off, but...
1964: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (movie)
1972: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (sequel)
1974: Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes (miniseries)
1984: Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain (made for tv special)
1995 and 1999: Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (anime entries)
2005: Metal Gear Solid (1998 tv series)
2007-2009: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2002 miniseries)
2014: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots (2008-14 series)
2015: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (spin off)
@@gohachinightwin9884 1972 was Portable Ops, not Peace Walker. Peace Walker was the miniseries.
And of course TPP is the 80's series D-Dogs.
@Mike Harrison Don't knock the second anime entry, it's actually better than people think.
@@DJ_Macphisto portable ops took place in 1970 though. 6 years after Snake Eater
I love this so much, the small detail of there being 2 dog actors playing DD is on point with the 80's TV show vibe.
The reason there are two dogs listed as playing DD is because those are the two dogs that were for motion capture for DD in game. It isn't supposed to be a reference to it being an 80s show

And sadly it never got that bombastic ending with season 3 that was promised. Fans are still waiting for the complete story but it is theorised to never happen, backed up by 100s of failed kickstarters to hire the original cast and writers.
+macfreak18 Damn. Right in my feelings.
You forgot that Season 2 was full of Season 1 fillers
+Liam Catterson And by "fillers" you mean clip-shows, right?
+Alex Cousins Do they actually have evidence on "Season 3"? According to the video description, it was confirmed by the staff... What staff? When and where? Oh wait... You can find it on TH-cam? Oh, yes, it's Mission 51, which OFFICIALLY came with Collector's Edition. MGS2 didn't featured the main character that was promised, and yet, people really liked that game. With MGSV, Kojima subverted the fans again, but now, people are losing their heads. The game features 6 hours of cutscenes, and another 6 if you combine with the cassette tapes. Fillers? Seriously? There's plenty of codec calls in MGS3 for example, that features only tutorials, or Paramedic's movies. This Metal Gear, is not really different from the others, it just have a different presentation and Open World design. That's it. This game doesn't have the responsibility to fill holes in the lore, simply because MGS4 already done that. If you REALLY want the lore to be filled, then remake all the MGS games, so everything can fall in place, don't create more games. Simple as that.
I fondly remember watching this on ABC back in the day.
The pilot episode where Big Boss had to escape the hospital was groundbreaking and the action scenes being stealth focused was also innovative programming for 1984. I also loved the Season 2 finale with Selhalanthropus. Too bad the show was cancelled with unresolved plot points like what happened with Elli and those African kids. Anyways as far as 80's T.V shows go, this has aged extremely well.
Sahelantropus was Season 1. Second season ended with that episode where Big Boss enters Quarantine on Mother Base and has those hospital flashbacks.

The A-Team intro theme
@@EnLaMatrix1 thanks
In 1984, a mercenary unit was sent to military prison for a crime they probably committed, knowing Ocelot. These people promptly escaped to an island off the coast of Africa. Today, still wanted by XOF, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no-one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...the D-Dogs
They definitely committed a crime, but it was for a good reason, I swear.
Seeing Big Boss smile warms my heart. And gut.
This was gold. Purely amazing. Constructive criticism tho. If you had used the names of the characters that are in the intros of every mission ie Kazuhira "Benedict" Miller or even Robin Atkin Downes as Kazuhira "Benedict" Miller, that should have been perfect in my eyes. Then again, I'm just some guy on the internet commenting. This shit's awesome.
+TheDevilsMouse True! Originally I was going to use the full names, (especially since the A-Team intro says 'Starring George Peppard as John "Hannibal" Smith,' which fits the '3 names' thing of MGSV) but in the end I thought the short names sounded more "80's" overall so I cut them.
+Nick Hawryluk I get you. The only reason I really said it is cuz of what unfolds in the story concerning the meaning of the names.
+TheDevilsMouse A Team intro is another reason I thought this as well.
+Diego Hernández Probably fine without it. But, you're heart's in the right place.
The problem you run into Devil'sMouse it is it also takes up too much screen space. This was a far better move.

This is great! It's interesting to think that if the "A-Team" were told more realistically, it would be a story told like MGSV. Same people, stories, and scenarios; but 2 different perspectives of what they do. For instance, if the DD were nonfictional, and TV producers in the 80's were to make a show about them; the A-Team would be about it. They would make it seem that being soldiers of fortune was glamorous. I don't know why I am analyzing it, but I did; so there.

I have not laughed this hard in ages! You deserve a trophy and a hand shake from Kojima.
It's such a narrow margin of people that will be able to appreciate this video, I wish I had more people to send it to
This seems like the kind of thing Mother Base would make as propaganda. A watered down version of what actually happened and redirecting all the faults elsewhere.
The oilfield? The fact that the spill was a byproduct of containing the infection is omitted completely and Diamond Dog's being responsible for unwittingly releasing the kikongo strain is swept right under the rug.
Huey? He's framed as a shifty, untrustworthy, and so obviously two-timing instead of the awkward nervous wreck that he is.
Miller? He's rewritten to be grumpy but fair manager with a lot of sass, completely glossing over how he spearheaded the paranoia and suspicion that infected Mother Base like a plague.
Ocelot? Why, he's just a cool cowboy with absolutely ZERO ulterior motives! What do you mean he's a triple agent? He says one-liners, he can't be evil!
And finally Venom Snake, who is rewritten to basically be Rambo, going guns blazing and spouting quips like the real Big Boss.
What episode of this show was your favorite? Mine was the one where Eli showed up on Motherbase and started playing pranks on all the soldiers. Classic.
Oh you mean when he put Ocelot all over the base? Yeah that was funny

I recently took another look at it and saw this was part of a larger franchise that started in the 60s. Now I really gotta binge it.
There also doing a remaster of the movie snake eater without hideo kojima it’s rumoured to come out on November this year
@@Epicbobby71 So I've heard. Quite excited for that as well, though the release date should probably be taken with a grain of salt. Modern productions usually take a very long time.
@@lycanthis9963 yeah true
I wish I would have came across this video when it first was uploaded. Because this is the kind of stuff I absolutely adore.
Taking something modern and making it retro just for the heck of it. I think the two best parts are how right before the title appears it fades out into red and then as the music picks up you have the quick 3 to 4 flash scenes before it does a freeze frame on the character showing their name. THAT was pure gold!
0:34 venom snake taking a selfie with his bro, 1984 colorized
But there was colored photograph machines back in 84
Hand held photo machines that are easy for a mercenary to get his hands on
The description just drives it home.
if every episode of the game had started like this it would have been much more enjoyable
My favorite episode is the one where the boss uses all of his Fulton's before he even gets to the base he's supposed to infiltrate
I love how they used Mac and Crowd, the dogs that provided mocap for dd in this.
Man these tapes are hard to find. Glad there's an upload
The selfie with Ocelot really got me.
this video is absolutely fantastic! I can't stop watching it XD
If Mister T hatted flying think about how much he would hate be tied to a Fulton Recovery Balloon!
I’m not freaked out by flying and I find that concept terrifying
"I pity the fool who kept us waiting, WHAT?"
Nice
I lolz at the two dogs playing the same part. That is so 80s tv.
I love when a plan comes together!
This legitimately made me exited for a series or something. It's my favorite video on the internet right now
We’ve managed to avoid FROWNING.
How have I never seen this masterpiece?
I will not stop until this actually is a real show
