When I saw the Doors live, at the University of Michigan, on Oct 20th, 1967,they played the entire Light My Fire album from top to bottom, without a break. After the concert was over (it was homecoming for all of us letter winners) we didn't even see Jim and the band leave the stage. 10 or so minutes later, we asked ourselves " What the hell just happened ". The Doors mesmerized and hypnotized us for 10 minutes AFTER they had already gone. That, to me, is what The Doors did...to everyone. Rest in Peace, Mr.Jim Morrison. You were one of a kind. ❤

The "Things that areknown..." quote is Jim Morrison quoting William Blake. I became aDoors fan in 1971 when the LA Woman album wasreleased, I was 15. The Doors were "our" band they being from LA and so were my friends and I, grew up in Altadena and Pasadena CA. Overthe years I've read everything I can getmy hands on about the band and have combed everywhere for every bootleg and also all of Ray Manzarek's records. Being too young to have seen the band my best friend and I used to see Ray Manzarek every chance we could get. And saw Robbie Kreiger play the Whisky when he had the band Red Shift. But Ray was always our favorite, he carried the Doors torch and did it well. The last time I saw Ray was in 2010 in Sacramento and I was lucky enough to be able to chat with him for a bit. I'll be 66 in 8 days from this posting. To all of you fellow Doors fans, carry on and Peace!

You're not alnone, I love that awsome yet harshly treated album. I love the orchestration and don't consider it a downside but a feature which makes the album outstanding and unique in its atmosphere as it doesn't spoil anything to me, it suits the songs nicely, and sometimes even add some psychodelic vibe the simillar way it does in the Yellow Submarine LP by the Beatles. I can't understand why people demand the Doors to sound the same on each album. I enjoy the album for what it is.

    Who put forth the proposition
That you can petition the Lord with prayer
    Petition the lord with prayer
    Petition the lord with prayer
You cannot petition the lord with prayer!
    Can you give me sanctuary
I must find a place to hide
A place for me to hide
Can you find me soft asylum
    I can't make it anymore
The Man is at the door
    Peppermint, miniskirts, chocolate candy
Champion sax and a girl named Sandy
There's only four ways to get unraveled
One is to sleep and the other is travel, da da
One is a bandit up in the hills
One is to love your neighbor 'till
    His wife gets home
    Catacombs
    Nursery bones
    Winter women
    Growing stones
    Carrying babies
    To the river
    Streets and shoes
    Avenues
    Letter writers
    Selling news
    The monk bought lunch
Ha ha, he bought a little
    Yes, he did
    Woo!
This is the best part of the trip
This is the trip, the best part

    What'd he say?
    Yeah!
    Yeah, right!
    Pretty good, huh
    Huh!
Yeah, I'm proud to be a part of this number
Successful hills are here to stay
    Everything must be this way
    Gentle streets where people play
    Welcome to the Soft Parade
All our lives we sweat and save
    Building for a shallow grave
Must be something else we say
    Somehow to defend this place
    Everything must be this way
Everything must be this way, yeah
The Soft Parade has now begun
    Listen to the engines hum
People out to have some fun
    A cobra on my left
    Leopard on my right, yeah
The deer woman in a silk dress
Girls with beads around their necks
Kiss the hunter of the green vest
    Who has wrestled before
    With lions in the night
    Out of sight!
    The lights are getting brighter
    The radio is moaning
    Calling to the dogs
There are still a few animals
    Left out in the yard
    But it's getting harder
    To describe sailors
    To the underfed
    Tropic corridor
    Tropic treasure
    What got us this far
    To this mild equator?
We need someone or something new
Something else to get us through, yeah, come on
    Calling on the dogs
    Calling on the dogs
    Oh, it's getting harder
    Calling on the dogs
    Calling in the dogs
    Calling all the dogs
    Calling on the gods
    You got to meet me
    Too late, baby
    Slay a few animals
    At the crossroads
    Too late
    All in the yard
    But it's getting harder
    By the crossroads
    You got to meet me
Oh, we're going, we're going great
    At the edge of town
    Tropic corridor
    Tropic treasure
    Having a good time
    Got to come along
    What got us this far
    To this mild equator?
    Outskirts of the city
    You and I
    We need someone new
    Something new
Something else to get us through
    Better bring your gun
    Better bring your gun
    Tropic corridor
    Tropic treasure
We're going to ride and have some fun
    When all else fails
We can whip the horse's eyes
    And make them sleep
    And cry

I had never seen this performance. The Doors were amazing. I've been a fan since I first heard "Hello, I Love You" in 1968 (I was 9). It was the summer and I was at a local lake in Wisconsin. I remember hearing playing from a jukebox by the cafe. It's been over 52 years and I still see that little girl listening....

That line... Little woman in a blue dress, girls with beads around their necks, kiss the hunter in the green vest... Who has wrestled before... With lions in the night... Has been stuck in my head all week. What powerful lyrics. Who even writes like that anymore!? You can ponder that line for days. I think it's a shot at hippies. They can leave their carefree life but they depend on meat eating real men at the end of the day to get the job done so they can live their hippie lifestyle.

I think the whole theme of the song is about the values we hold in our lives. The lyrics you wrote I think is about how we value a man or woman. We value a man by his strength and a woman by her beauty.

I think the entire album was underrated. I listened to the song “Easy Rider” and can’t help but think that it was perhaps written and recorded for the movie “Easy Rider” which came out later the same year as the album. I wonder if the movie producers didn’t use the song because of the Doors being black listed because of the Miami incident

    • @pgestudio75
      @pgestudio75 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@YouMake MeReal Incorrect. "Psycedelic" is NOT how that word is spelled and I still stand on my original posting of "psychedelic" (which I have properly been spelling for the last thirty years of my life), which indeed DOES indicate my intelligence level (and lowers yours). The word "psyche" refers to the mind, hence, "PSYCHology" (the science and behavior of the mind) and "PSYCHEdelic" drugs (drugs which alter thoughts, perception and behavior of the mind).
Have you ever heard of the group called the Psychedelic Furs?
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Psychedelic_Furs
How about the radio station called Psychedelicized Radio?
      psychedelicized.com/
Or how about a spelling of it, directly from Webster's online dictionary?
      www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/psychedelic
Seems like the only one who didn't do their homework was you on this one. Ironic that you were quick to jump the gun in an attempt to squash me, point the fingers and prove me wrong, when in fact YOU ARE WRONG! Seems to me that logic would have led you to research the proper spelling of the word PRIOR to an attempt to correct me and accuse me of being unintelligent BEFORE proving to the world of your own unintelligence. Case in point: If you are going to attempt to accuse someone of being wrong and unintelligent, then you had better make 100% sure you are correct first. Trying to win a battle of intelligence by being unintelligent won't be in your favor.
And for the record, my initial spelling correction to the author wasn't in an attempt to be a wise guy or a know-it-all. I meant the utmost respect. The only know-it-all "acting smart", but "NOT BEING" smart is yourself.

    • @pgestudio75
      @pgestudio75 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@YouMake MeReal You are a real joker! To the rest of the world who didn't catch on to YouMake MeReal's idiocy and instant cover-up, let me clue you all in...
      1. ) He accuses of me of improperly spelling a word and being unintelligent. Meanwhile, his own supposed "correction" is in fact improperly spelled. I described this all to him in my last comment just minutes ago.
2.) So after I literally just posted that follow-up to him, telling him HE is the one who is wrong, he's not man enough to accept fault or apology.
3.) Instead, I refresh my page just minutes later, only to discover his origial posting to me has been edited to cover up his mistakes and to pin guilt on me by editing his posting and shifting everyone's attention to a lack of a capital 'P', rather than his original argument of spelling. This guy is a real con! Fortunately, I always screen shot comments before people edit them to neatly win a battle by cover-ups like these.
      4.)
A.) Suddenly, his original spelling of "psycedelic" that he tried telling me how it was spelled was now edited to the correct spelling of "psychedelic", as I have said all along.
B.) Suddenly, he has capitalized the letter 'P' in HIS word, which originally was lower case (then attempts to retort on me with a lesson that I didn't capitalize my own 'P'). Smh!
C.) Suddenly he's added a period to the end of his original sentence, which wasn't there prior.
Anyone think I'm making this up? No worries, I have the original screen shot as proof, as I have dealt with jokers like him in the past who accuse, find out they're wrong and don't have the decency to apologize. Rather, ego kicks in and they feel the need to endlessly win a battle they've lost by childishly editing their original posting and still finding some way to accuse me of being unintelligent. Too funny. Now I'm accused of not capitalizing a word I have politely corrected someone on.
Oh, here's more proof of irony: if in fact YouMake MeReal's original "correction" comment to me was spelled "psychedelic" (as he accused me of being wrong about), then there is no point to edit your posting to say "psychedelic", if it was proper to begin with because there's no point to be made of accusations in the first place, Einstein. Smh!
His original post to me: "psycedelic. If you're gonna act smart, BE smart first "
His now edited comment AFTER I proved him wrong: "Psychedelic. Capital P, If you're gonna act smart, BE smart first. "
We all see your subtle, yet pathetic cover-up to win the intelligence battle. Notice how he purposely inserted the words "Capital P" into the equation, insinuating to the world that he originally spelled 'psychedelic' correctly from the start? He attempts to cleverly shift the attention of the people by insinuating that his argument is about capitalizing a 'P' and NOT any loger about his original argument of the word 'psychedelic' (which he tried lecturing me it was spelled 'psycedelic' and accused me of being unintelligent). Duh! Hey joker, we caught on to your idiocy. You've lost this battle and my previous screen shot doesn't lie. Just another fool who isn't man to admit guilt or simply apologize. Instead, it's a cover-up attempt. Clever attempt, joker. Funny that when I submit actual proof and facts via web links to examples of proper spelling, he shifts to a plan B cover-up mode to avoid making himself look as stupid as he is. Fail!

    • @pgestudio75
      @pgestudio75 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@YouMake MeReal I don't have or use PhotoShop. You make no valid point. Just fess up to guilt, man. Grow a set for once in your life! You initially came at me like a vulture, arguing that I was dumb and that I was trying to correct another user's spelling by improperly spelling it myself. Here it turns out that YOU were/are wrong, not me. Rather than admit guilt or apology, you refuse to and attempt the cover-up to save your ass from looking stupid to the world for being wrong. Simple as that. I caught on to your clever attempt at lies and you know damn well that's the truth. And no, you didn't edit it to remove a comma. You edited it to save your ass from looking stupid by trying to correct someone who was already correct by thinking that your spelling of a word was correct when it wasn't. You are precisely the problem in society these days. Nitwit! Readers, don't believe this joker. I have the evidence.
Funny that when I POLITELY correct someone's spelling in an attempt to educate someone, as any human should....then along comes mister dipshit know-it-all who immediately thinks he's right (and he's NOT), then accuses, cons, covers-up, lies, retorts, creates a huge scene. All for what?? Simply for another human being with an emormous ego too big to swallow to accept guilt and apologize. Unreal mentality! I caught on to you right away with your cover-ups and so did everyone else, I'm sure. Smh!

All our lives we sweat and save building for a shallow grave. Nearly fifty years on, nobody's got the message. Oh, well, when all else fails we can whip the horse's eyes and make him sleep and cry -- Morrison was always sneaking philosophy in his lyrics, he's hinting at Nietzsche's madness at failure to understand the human condition.

jim morrison, wins the benjamin button award here. Among other attributes, he will always go down as the most rapidly aging rock star in a short time frame of all time. this performance was may, 1969. literally only 5 months after the smother brothers show when they did, touch me. pull that up and contrast both. no joke, morrison looks literally 10 years older in a mere 5 months! I admire his ballsy, not give a F attitude, but wow that was quite a transformation. morrison lived the life of 5 rock stars in 5 years. to his credit, he wasted little time while on planet earth.

Wildcatter... I get it. Morrison was all in, it’s why he’s a legend. He took method acting techniques and applied it to the music realm. For a guy with no formal music background and very little influence in it till he was 22, it’s almost savant what he pulled off. He was a master at ttaking narrative theme from his literatrue background amd combining it with his talents and interest for theater and in turn converging both components it into what could be done w/in the realm of rock. In some sense he was the American Bowie.... obviously sad, this was ones of his last acts. The final fruits were seen in the great la woman album. Quite a coda.

    • @kelvinkloud
      @kelvinkloud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@wildcatter63 ... agree. its interesting, bowie was very articulate & talked a lot about his past & his influences when he was alive. but he interestingly never mentioned morrison that I ever read. yet, as you state he was very tight w/ iggy pop (who also knew ray well) whose most important influence was morrison. iggy saw morrison live & was close with key members in the doors orbit. He also was nearly like a brother w/ bowie, in some of bowies most important developmental years.... my take is, he studied morrison very closely & came up w/ several of his most vital concepts from the goundwork morrison had already laid out. to admit or talk about that, would be too much like a magician explaining his tricks.
