      I have the Game Informer magazine issue that highlighted Uncharted 4, and the developers stated they had entire melee trees for their animation system. So, for example, Nate would throw a punch, and based on his position at the end of the time that animation plays, they have a few animations that start at his previous end position. One of those animations would play (I think the game chooses semi-randomly) and from there, another set of animations would pick up. So on and so forth, until the animation that ends the encounter.

    Well done, sir. I've loved the character of Nathan Drake for a long time, so it's amazing to see his fighting style analyzed by someone with an eye for martial arts. Based off what you see in the games, he looks like a street fighter (which is how he fights, more or less). But once you look deeper into the choreography, you can tell more about the character and whether their fighting style or combination of styles would work well in a fight. I think the same goes for every character that's been called a great fighter. I've been looking forward to seeing more of your videos, and you did not disappoint. As usual, keep up the great work my friend! Best of luck on the next batch of videos!

    I think the swinging the arm after a backfist fits Nate well. He is not one who sticks to the rules, and adapts to situations. So his technique becomes a bit unclean* and he puts more of his weight into the punch. Fighting styles of fictional characters should always tell about the characters personality.
    Btw, I like that you don't take that many fighting styles on the list anymore, for the reasons you mentioned. In general, countless people are always like "There was a clich/he used his knee, so he practises Muay Thai"... I don't need to practise MT to use a knee strike. Not like no other martial art uses it.

    Nathan Drake is most definitely a jack of all trades underdog hand to hand combatant. That’s the best way that I can explain it after growing up playing Uncharted for years since I was a kid. He definitely knows how to fight, and there is some skill and finesse tied into his particular fighting style. However, the dude is a brawler at his core. It always seemed to me like Nate would just apply various elements of fighting styles over his typical brawler approach for quick takedowns.

      What? That doesn't make any sense. Just because Nadine is good in close combat, it doesn't mean she is a better shooter than him. Nate kills often pirates, thieves or some selftrained mercenarys, mostly with guns, not with his "insane" martial art skills.
      Nadine is a long trained profi. She specialized herself the entire life in close combat and martial arts. Nate didn't. Nates super power is to shoot and have luck. That's even a game mechanic. Did you ever notice the screen becoming red in a shoot out? That's not because he gets hit or something like that, no, his luck runs out. The redder the screen, the higher is the chance that his luck runs out and that he will be hit by a deadly bullet. That's an official game mechanic. Nate never gets hit by a bullet in the entire franchise, that's canon.
      He has just luck.
      But even with luck he could never kill someone in close combat, at least no one who fought her entire life on a professional level.
      Just because Nate kills a lot of people with his AK47, it doesn't automatically mean that he has the experience to kill her in close combat.
      Also, he never wanted to kill her.

    • @StonewallJackson1865
      @StonewallJackson1865 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StonewallJackson1865 Do you even remeber how he defeated them? He couldn't even kill or hurt Talbot. In the end Nathan killed him with a gun, because it was the only way how he could handle the situation. The same thing with Lazarowicz. He couldn't even hurt or kill him in close combat, because he was simply not strong enough for that. So he shot on resin to make him slower and in the end this monster fighters killed him.
      Also, he killed the army soldiers from both fractions mostly with weapons or guns. How good the army was trained in close combat is absolutely unclear. Just because Nathan can shoot a lot of people it doesn't mean he is a better close combat fighter.

    @strikeforce1500 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think Drake, in Uncharted 1 mainly, style is dirty fighting in general, which would make sense since he isn't exactly trained to almost anything. He just take a bunch of moves that he knows he can do easily (mainly punches) while using whatever he can find as a weapon. Which I like, because Nate isn't a soldier or a trained person, he just use whatever he can to win or at least to get the advantage

    I'd like to point out a few mistakes made here.
    If you've looked into naughty dog as a company you'd know their feminist agenda is crystal clear and that all the cards stack up, that's why you cannot trust the Nadine fights since Nathan was clearly nerfed, he legit started swinging like an old man with a broken back which he never does, but even then Nate is shown countering kicks and pretty much all of Nadine's attacks throught the games something I think you should of analyzed a bit more but here's a great video showcasing exactly that. th-cam.com/video/ThQYRBDnf_c/w-d-xo.html
    Nathan has pinned Rafe to to the wall and could of killed him right there and then but because Drake doesn't kill in cold blood he, wanted all three of them to escape until Rafe took advantage of it and Nathan was forced to kill him to save himself and his brother, I'm not saying Nathan is a good fencer but I am saying he technically won because of his amazing dodging ability and his lightning speed reflexes.
    At the end of the Talbot fight you can clearly see Nathan looked away for a good second due to the pillars falling around him wanting to get out alive whilst Talbot's main goal was to purely kill Drake and couldn't care less about life or death at the time, that's the only reason Nathan "lost" the fight, again I'm not saying he's an expert at disarming a knife but he still has his reflexes, timing and martial arts knowledge to back him up.
    Otherwise great video and I cant wait to see more from you soon.

    • @Godzillarex
      @Godzillarex  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They aren't "mistakes." I've seen that video before, just because he can counter the attack, doesn't mean he can counter everyone who ever delivers that attack. Also, he's much older and more inexperienced when he fights Nadine. Granted UC2 Nate could have fared much better and not taken as many hits, but at the end of the day, he was never formally trained. Training is what elevates you from really good to excellent. And sure, you can argue there was a certain amount of emotional decisions involved in certain fights, but we're here to critique and analyze the outcomes, not what might have been going on in his head at the time.

      I appreciate it! I highly recommend watching my Solid Snake vs Sam Fisher video if you haven't yet. I personally perform in it and also choreographed the fights! th-cam.com/video/mXImFlpwc2w/w-d-xo.html
