The fact that Prodigy could actually make me care about Chakotay just goes to show that there are no bad characters, there are just characters who are used badly.

I mourned when I heard about Lower Decks, and cheered when the Cerritos was mentioned.
I love the attitude of all the starfleet officers towards murph. No one has any idea what he’s saying and they’re all just like cool, thanks murph love the enthusiasm

I started out loving lower decks but honestly this season not to mention the total absence of season 4 on prime has made me love prodigy just that little bit more!
It's nice to see the show wasn't afraid to mention the Cerritos. Despite being primarily a kids show, Prodigy knows how many adult Trekkies watch it, so a Lower Decks reference was appreciated.
Ma'jel will most likely follow Sarek and T'lyn in the tradition of being "Vulcan as a MF'er"
And tone and context will get the important part across to people who haven't seen Lower Decks just fine. It's done well.
The series hit it's stride, Prodigy has the soul of star trek written into it and hope Netflix sees this, we need a season 3!.

I completely missed that Jameela Jamil was Acencia from season one and honestly this is what we want from celeb voice roles cuz she is 1) Doing an actual voice and 2) really good at the role
Funny that her and Jason are here. Especially when Davheed Diggs is Janeway's XO(a funny line from TGP) and Eugene is Rutherford. Also Marc Evan Jackson was on T'Lyn's ship in Wej Duj
Jamil does a lot of voice work, I'd argue she's more a voice actor now than live action

When Murf went into the water he reminded me of the Nucleogenic Lifeforms from the Equinox episodes of Voyager.

Just saw the entire season. It might be the best season of Trek ever.
It definitely is the best season of Kurtzmann Trek, followed up by Picard season 3. But given that the rest of Kurtzmann Trek is essentially *insert Chewin' the Fat meme her* that is sadly not really hard.
When cetacean ops mentioned, I chuckled at the likely size of Sean’s nerdgasm. It must have been epic.

Prodigy Season 2 is an improvement on season 1 in basically every way, looove it, and great to see it getting the ups and downs treatment! So many cool things spotted.
I dont know if it was just me but the temporal mechanics 101 reminded me of the TVA videos with Miss minutes in the loki series
I’d like to think Jankom’s line in episode 4 “Ton inverter…inverting” is a play on Marty McFly’s line “Flux capacitor…fluxing.” And then Jankom hitting the console is like Marty head-butting the wheel to get the Delorean going.
I meant to watch 1 or 2 episodes or at least 5 to keep up with the UPs and DOWNs. I watched the whole season. It's amazing! Loved it.
36:04 the before story for the diviner as it’s mentioned in the first season says that he was a hopeful astronomer that was happy people from another planet contacted them and he only became jaded overtime after the Civil War.
"Gillian" is not only the name of Dr. Gillian Taylor in "the One with the Whales," but ALSO the first name of the actress who played Dana Scully (in X Files), one of two sci-fi characters along with Kathryn Janeway who inspired Dr. Erin Macdonald to pursue physics as a career. So maybe a twofer!

One of the many things I love about this season of Prodigy is the sheer number of Easter eggs - not just Star Trek ones, but references to other sci fi series in general. You’ve already mentioned the Dr Who reference… but there are so many more. I noticed nods to Babylon 5 (Gwyn phasing between realities was lifted right from Sinclair doing the same in Babylon Squared/War Without End when he’d become unstuck in time); Contact (Gwyn’s vision when she shifted into the other reality was lifted right from Ellie Arroway’s journey); The Matrix (the time-travel-modified Infinity looks an awful lot like the Nebuchadnezzar); The Terminator (the way the Infinity forms a bubble around it to travel through time); and that’s just in the first five episodes. Lots more to come; even Star Wars Rebels gets a reference (and arguably, so does Resistance). And I’m sure I missed more than a few.
I thought that Voyager-A being of the "Lamarr" class was a reference to the character of John Lamarr in "The Orville" until Sean mentioned Heddy Lamarr. Or maybe I was right and Sean wasn't. But only maybe.
I felt like the numbers (that Gwyn ended up putting into her armband) was a minor nod to Steins; Gate, but I can't explain that without spoilers.

I finished the entired season, and I'm really excited for season 3, and I'll be praying that it won't get cancelled again.
This season of Prodigy is absolutely true Trek! I loved everything I witnessed this season. I cannot believe that I got so attached and connected to these characters. Yes, they are animated, but I felt every emotional situation they went through.Fantastic story telling and at the core its all about hope. Netflix, please keep Prodigy going!

For someone who once said she hates time travel, Janeway sure is dealing a lot with it. She might even be the major expert on the subject by now.
I really really really really hope they make a season three. This was such a joy to watch. I watched it in two days and I was intrigued invested all the way through the references to Star Trek Lore l and because we’re so consistent. The references to the Who Verse , the Timey Winey and others were so good and placed just right. The story had me cheering ,emotional and every inbeween. I going to say something that might upset people But I think this was much much better the the final season of Discovery. The way Wesley crusher was part of this and the way it got tidying at the end so he knew about his brother Jack. The mention of the attacks on Mars by the synthetics tied all the timelines together so Picard was set up please series. please, please, please make another prodigy season three as this is such a good Star Trek reputation. We have animation you can do so much with special effects. See zero get that body and what they look like was so cool. I did feel sorry for them but in the end they were back to their original form but with upgrades courtesy off Jacb Pog. To see Dal realise he wasn’t meant to be captain and that being number one was a revelation for him?. Play tight crew and would be great to see more adventures and see them through the eyes of young adults.The Janeway hologram was great that she was not lost and I forgot all of their adventures. "Stream the show. As often as you want". That is easy! I remember to many Discovery S5 episodes i did pause to finish later. Quite the opposite here. Prodigy S2 is a treat to watch.
The thing that absolutely works are group and team dynamics. You are with the team right away.
For example Ma'Jel: On first sight an annoying smartass of the elite nova squad. (Oooo Nova Squad) I love her Vulcan character since she seems to be a very open, very curious and far less presumptious vulcan out there. No longing sign of arrogance or superiority. More like "Oo, that's interesting, i want to be a part of it".
I love how i went from "oh no not her again" to "Jay, my girl, great addition to the team".
I can even forgive some plotholes since the dynamic is so nice and i just have great fun watching the show.
I love how two animated series are two of the most entertaining series of Startrek in the last years.
Isn't Hedy Lamar the classic era Hollywooder who also invented some type of radio thingy that helped a bit in the allies defeating the NAZis or something like that?
She invented frequency-hopping data transfer. It didn't just help defeat the Nazis. It's the underpinning of all wireless data transmission protocols we use today, including Bluetooth and wifi.
Sort-of. She and another inventor, who's day-job was as a pianist, invented a radio technology that was intended to make guided weapons to fight the Nazis, but their design was never used. It did serve as inspiration for later designs that used the idea they came up with, and in fact all modern cellular networks also use a version of the technology.

I have just in the last half hour finished watching this entire series, it was better than season 1.
Prodigy is the best of the new Star Trek shows. It shows you can be different and still feel completely like Star Trek. Most of the other new shows completely missed the mark.

Loved seeing Dr. Erin Macdonald in Prodigy!!! She was inspired as a youngster to study science by fictional characters Dana Scully and Kathryn Janeway!
Could you 'timestamp' the different episodes? I haven't watched all 5 episodes yet and I'm trying to savor the show by spacing it out... to last longer. But as always LOVE to come to TrekCulture and hear the ups and downs!
It doesn't hurt to ask, but if you really want to space it out you could just wait to watch this video until after you've seen the finale.
The season was so amazing, engaging from start to finish. I completely lost track of time whilst watching. I ended up binge-watching them all back-to-back after work on the day of release, so didn't get to bed until nearly 4am :P

I have to say the connective tissue to the other shows is goddam clever. Especially the last episode. I’m kind of blown away.
Picard being the launching pad for season 2 > 3 of Prodigy will be the only redeeming part of the entire Picard series except for creating the Captain Shaw character.
The spider in the frame is indeed Arachnia’s hairpin. You can see it in her hair in shots from the episode!
I'm surprised she kept a memo of that event. She was not willing to play the part. Maybe she ended up so much enjoying the part thus why she kept the hairpin. Or maybe because Mulgrew herself want the memo included given I read she actually enjoyed playing Arachnia. :)
I never saw anything that quoted Terry Gilliam's first movie 'Time Bandits' from 1981. Prodigy does it multiple times.

Gwyn getting a second chance with her father as the parent she needed and that he wants to be? It’s hitting me like a ton of bricks. I lost my father recently. We didn’t always get along and he was out of my life for many years but we got it together enough to be in a good place for a long time before he passed. Seeing our story play out again on this season is 😢
I'm a tad disappointed that no mention was made to the fact that the "mysterious figure" talking to Murf is clearly a reference/idea taken directly from Enterprise. :(

Yeah I saw that and gasped! It never even occurred to me that it could be Chakotay. I for sure thought Future Guy, and wondered if it they might even make it Archer like they had talked about for Enterprise S5.
@@BillOverton My guess is that it's Gwyn's father (future self). Probably Chakotay, but more likely her father. It would make more sense for him to be the one "pulling the strings", so to speak. Chakotay has no idea who those kids are, after all, and I don't think he'd be able to learn who they are since his Protostar has no records of them. But I could be totally wrong and it turns out to be Chakotay after all!

Not mentioned in Cetacean Observations is the object on ADMIRAL Janeway's shelf between Voyager & the combadge - It's the stone Chakotay gave her when Protostar launched. The one with the SPIRAL on it.
I was always worried the design of this show would just throw continuity out the window. Actually it's obviously made with a great deal of love and attention to detail of Star Trek lore. I really appreciate that because they could have just done their own thing "for kids" but actually they have paid respect to the design of the trek universe.
"Who Saves the Saviors" is definitely a reference to TNG "Who Watches the Watchers" more than DS9 "Who Mourns for Morn."

So happy to see the Ups and Downs back for Prodigy! I binged 5 episode and then I was stuck thinking "shall I wait for Séan?" "_can_ I wait?" and then I did. Pleased with myself that I recognized Michaela Dietz (even without the high energy/humour of Amethyst)
First thing I thought of when seeing how much Cetacean ops scenes there were in this was "I wonder if they did that for Seán"

The screech that the Loom did sounded exactly like the screech the Lifeforms from that episode would do.

Finished the season. Wow. Incredible. Just love Prodigy and want to be sure we get Season 3 and beyond. I was so very skeptical about a Nickelodeon Star Trek show - but I decided to watch because it is Trek. And boy is it Trek. Such a great show that delivers with every episode. Wonderful characters and stories. Season 2 is one of the best Star Trek seasons ever.
I know it's animation, but i never released how much i needed to see a sweeping shot like the new Voyager - A heading into danger with a Janeway voice over...

Maj’el was a good inclusion and I like how she’s a tribute to Majel Barret, and voiced by Michaela Dietz (Amethyst in Steven Universe). The creators said it was their intention for her to start out all arrogant and antagonistic and then soften up to them later on. She also brings something new to the table as the pre-requisite Vulcan through her age, which is something the franchise has not tackled before.
Yes I read an interview of the Hagemans saying they wanted to examine what it must have meant to be a teenage Vulcan: you know you are to control your emotions, but you suck at it.
As Prodigy FINALLY dropped in Finland I get watch these without getting spoiled.
Awesome job Sean. As a reader of the Trek Literary Universe, it's a thrill to see all of the bits and bobs of the novels showing up in Prodigy. A lot of influences from the books as well

Finished the lot I. One sitting, really really enjoyed it. Much better than season 1 for me.
There are multiple references to Back to the Future in Prodigy Season 2.
1. Gwyn starts to fade away when her existence is at risk, like Marty did
2. When Jankom can't get the ship to work, he bangs it in desperation, calling it "percussive maintenance". Like when Marty hits his head against the steering wheel of the De Lorean to get it going again
3. In a later episode, one of the characters has to climb up a tower to connect a cable that has become severed, during a lightning storm, exactly like Doc Brown had to do
When Jankom was hitting the console, it reminded me more of the scene in Armageddon when the crew were trying to get the shuttle working to get off the asteroid, and the cosmonaut started hitting the panels

OMG, I love it! I thought S01 was very good, already, but S02 tops it - usually I let the opening run on Prodigy, as it's a quite nice one, but this season.... it's so tense im always like "nah, skipksipksip, show me how it coninues, I need to see how it continues, NOW!" 😅

Rok spent years-if not decades-alone with nothing to do but learn all the sciences, and Jankom was woken out of cryosleep to keep his generation ship running. Gwyn was also tutored from childhood as a translator and strategist, Zero is non-corporeal, Dal is an augment and Murf is... Murf. It's all fairly well justified, at least as these things go.
When the first down is something petty like "Dal, you should be in class" you know it's gonna be good 😉
Looking forward to Ellie swooning over all of the Janeway/Chakotay interactions.
Voyager is always a win. The A is just an amazing ship. This show was a joy to watch and made me want a live action follow up to what the crew of the Voyager are doing even more. Maybe they show up in the hoped for Star Trek Legacy? Please? Pretty Please!
It's hilarious that Starfleet literally gives first year cadets a tutorial to breaking the Temporal Prime Directive. Really gives credence to the whole "United Federation of Hold My Beer" fan theory. I can't imagine that Klingon or Romulan cadets would get a tutorial on building a time machine. It's like giving chemistry students a course focused on cooking crystal meth. Then they wonder why very few captains can retire with a spotless DTI record.
Though of course it might be more like sex ed. "You'll probably end up doing it eventually, so here's how you can do it safely."

Well done. Altho….u missed 2 references: lifting Crusher’s line from First Contact “but why are we still here?” when they were shielded from the timeline being changed & the future guy from Enterprise talking to the Suliban (Murph talking to their future guy).
I got this too! And when we learn more later, it makes sense. Future guy was making things difficult for humans so we would literally form the federation!

I was half expecting the Dr's drop of shuttle bay 3 was to lure the kids there, overhear the plan and see the ship in order to Janeway to have a way to do the mission w/o ordering it, knowing that the kids would do it.

I had to take the time to just binge on Prodigy S2 before I got to Ups & Downs. OMG, this was a ride I wouldn't forget. I got 90% of the easter eggs, Gillian went way above my head, because I honestly though the whale's name of Joanne. But the Cerritos, oh I laughed for a while just remembering how dysfunctional that crew is. I hope we got more seasons of both.
I am so impressed. I’ve only seen episodes 1 to 4 and already I have that feeling that makes me want to savor the entire season. It’s a 20 episode season. 20 episodes! The only thing I really don’t like is Dal. I just want them to slap a red shirt on him, one episode and be done with him. Other than that it has syrupy garbage I was expecting at all. It’s been EXCITING.
