- Most people say start working for friends and family. While that maybe a good choice, If you want to make real money, you want to work for people you don't know.

So true about working for friends, plus it get awkward really quickly.
It does and you always feel wrong when it comes to charging them.
I've been doing a bunch of work on Thumbtack for over a year now and have thought about getting into a completely different career field. BUT I just broke my leg a week ago and I've been doing a lot of soul searching while on bedrest. I feel like I need to just double down on my handyman business and really just take it by the horns. I feel that I can really carve my own path and make a name for myself and increase my families financial well being.
What is Thumbtack?..
You got this!!! You'll bounce back stronger than ever. I lost my leg on a harley. 9 months later I got back on the harley and back into the carpenters union. YOU GOT THIS!!!!
Posted an ad on facebook, going to new York today. This is my 3 customer
I'm a current supervisor for techs and I feel like I'm ready to jump out and do this on my own. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos. If they are your true friends and family they would make sure they paid you in full with no discount. Thats a friend and fam that's got your back and wants to see you succeed.
How did it go?
I recently start my Handyman TH-cam Channel as well and is been growing, and I will say you quality of work and your presentation says a lot, and try to work on areas where is people with money and they can afford your services. This video give me a good idea for my next video, thanks for inspiring me 😊
Very valuable, helpful information.
I'm handyman too soon I gonna get my license Thank you so much for your advice 🙂
Dang man, you're racking up 30-40 subs a day. That's baller status. Keep it up.
Thank you homie, I'm not sure what I'm doing right. I speak from the heart and my story is actually true.
Thanks! You have a great channel. I'm from Russia and you motivate me.
All the way from Russia! crazy.
Great Information
Great video thanks for sharing
1. I don’t have any friends
2. I don’t have any family
Legend 😂
Love how positive you are. Very up front and honest to us. You earned my sub. Wish you nothing but success and happiness man. And thank you for serving our country.
Thank you buddy!
Great content !
I'm retired from being a kitchen and laundry repair tech for a (former)major retailer. I take handyman jobs when my back allows. Doing jobs for neighbors and relatives comes with the territory; I put up with it as long as the favor is returned. I repaired a washer for a neighbor and he compensated me for my time. (I instructed him what part was needed and he ordered it .) A few months later, his dryer broke down and after my diagnosis, he ordered the part. I installed the part for him and I even cleaned his dryer vent. That was 3 years ago and I'm still waiting for his compensation......
Thank you man!
Good info thanks
Great video bro thanks
Hello brother can you just let me know what license you got?
I really need to know
Thank you
How do you go about scheduling your jobs/appointments? Do you schedule one per day just in case a small job turns into a bigger job? Or do you schedule multiple jobs per day and hope that you're able to finish all of them quickly enough to make your next appointment on time?
Big jobs 1 per day. Smaller jobs 2 to 3 per day. Jobs I haven't done before 1 per day just in case.
How big is the city you work out of ?
that's awesome that you are making good money in Arizona. Im in Prescott were the old folks have a heart attack at $25 an hour haha
geez homie really 25 bucks an hr? I just had a lady offered me $50 to come over to her place to move 2 dressers lol...
@@utubehandyman I'm just a guy in a beat up truck, so I get bargain hunters right now haha.
What about insurance? LLC? Should I do that stuff before my first job?
No need for llc until you want to make it a business, same for insurance.
Thank you, but facebook used to block me access to my account. If I knew how to pay for it would have done that but I don’t know how
Do you get a lot of scams on CL? How do you avoid scammers on there?
Good one I don't have any friends either anymore
thanks
Any advice on pricing jobs. Thanks
Yes, watch the full video. I covered partially how to price simple jobs. You can also price jobs thru homewise.com just to get an idea how much to charge.
How long it took you to be busy enough like at least 1 job per day ? thank you
To be honest it wasn't for the lack of customers. What kept me down was the fear of trying out new jobs. If I had the confidence I have now when I started, I would say It would've taken maybe 2-3 months easily.
Have you had any bad experiences with Craig's list . Problems such as receiving payment or shady characters?
shady characters yes but not thru craigslist. Just a POS property manager sending me to crappy rentals. He paid whatever I charged but I told him to take a hike. I'll make a vid about it. Otherwise customers I found myself, so far so good. The minimum charge and doing rough quotes over the phone seems to keep the bad ones away.
How can they report you for not having a license? You don't legally need it unless you do plumbing or electrical.
every state has its own rules. Some don't care others like CA, you need a license just to go to the bathroom 🤣
Here in NC, GC license is required only for jobs over $30,000
Bigger city... more competition!
I haven't had an issue with competition. My only competition are those other handyman who get sick the day they're supposed to show up for an appointment. Or the ones who screw something up and won't pickup the phone when the home owner calls them to follow up.
And a bigger customer pool
How hard is it to get your license
Varies by jurisdiction
I knew bro was real when he said he didnt have any friends
Friends and family want it for free or a dirt cheap price....and if it breaks again in 5 years they will think you should fix it for free
What do you feel is the best project to start off doing?
ceiling fan replacement and furniture assembly jobs.
Thank you!
I like your vids, it`s like listening to a friend, who explains everything in a good manner.
Do you fix washing machines? They are so different from european...
yes I do. Most washing machine issues are easy to fix. I don't guarantee electronic repairs though. And also I don't charge if I can't fix the problem.
Everyone should have to be licensed. Unlicensed contractors drive prices down.
Hey do you know if there is an app to get work as a handyman
no apps, just advertise. You can try home depot pro referral
Thanks bro
100%
Bro took forever to get to the point
subscribed bases on not having friends or family.
Hello,
I really appreciated your advices. I have a concern and I need help with it please.
Anytime I post my add on facebook, they kick me out and they say that I’m not allowed to post a service there. They said I can not post an ad without any intention to sell stuff. Can you please direct me how to be able to post my add on facebook please ?
Thank you
someone is flagging your post. Probably, competition. Technically it's against their policy but people do it all the time. Set the ad as fair price and actually put a price on it eventhough it's a service you're offering. If it keeps getting flagged, create a new account or pay for their ad placements.
