JelArts Hi I just found a pawsome yt channel, JelArts. I just started watching your vids and it's awesome. And one day when you get one mil I'll be proud to say I've been here since 16k.
IndigoKiwi hmmm make sense. but I refer to someone who is not yet familiar to any digital art programs and is looking for the free ones, so I think MediBang/FireAlpaca UI is easier to understand. and yeah Krita is soooo goodd I love their brushes bcs they looked natural. imo, aside from the UI, MediBang/fireAlpaca is better for solid line-art works like manga, etc, so that's why I said it depends on your personal style and preferences :D

As i just said, I've been drawing since I was 12, however, art is nothing but a hobby of mine, and since I do not hold the same passion and dedication to it as much as my major, it for sure became better, but at a really slow pace. There are other people that on the contrary, took as little as one year to make amazing improvements, but it was because they dedicate themselves to art. So don't discourage yourself before you even began, it takes time and love to make something good, just keep being persevering and try to get as many tips from tutorials and videos like this. That's cause they are very different things. It takes a LOT of practice to get good at drawing. I have been drawing my whole life, and I'm still bad at tbh. It's like anything, it takes tons of practice and you start out bad, so If you are serious about draw everyday and learn
Personally, this is part of my aversion to actually writing things. I find language wholly unsatisfactory for communicating visual information. It will always merely be a rough translation, and that's if you go into so much depth the most steadfast reader loses interest half-way through. Writing visuals is like painting with a mop. What I would suggest if you have this problem is: avoid trying to draw people, or even other animals at first. Especially people. Your brain is wired to process people, so even relatively minor errors can make them look horrifically wrong. Most other subject matter are far more forgiving of inaccuracies, and you might want to start there if you're struggling to continue.
I got an XP Pen 430 which has 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity for 35 euro including shipping, but i think you can get one for about $25 in America. On the other hand, there are $70 Wacom tablets with only 1048 levels of pressure sensitivity. Its a great starter tablet, its just not that well known.
I love using firealpaca, it's a lot like other art programs like Sai and PS but with less tool and tricks (and completely free). As far as tablets go, I use the Intuos Draw and it's pretty good. It's only $80, so that's pretty cheap by tablet standards.
Here's a list of free art programs for ya'll! Firealpaca: Windows, Mac Krita: Windows, Mac, Linux Gimp: Windows, Mac MS Paint: Windows Medibang paint pro: Windows, Mac
Elizabeth Murray there is actually an app that should already be on the chrome book called chrome canvas. You can also download this thing to download anything off the play store
I would suggest doing digital art on a PC. Not only can you get better art programs but it is actually cheaper and much easier. Just buy a drawing tablet and start cheap. I am getting the Wacom Intuos Draw which gets really good reviews and is much cheaper than other tablets and is good for beginners. You can find it in blue, white or black. OIr try Huion, although I'm not sure about the price on their cheaper tablets. But they have pretty good reviews for their tablets as well.

Amazing tips, honestly. I found myself to be the DIY type of artist, who finds out their own stuff with Trial and Error but watching this actually saved me a lot of time. Yes, I'll still find out more things on my own but this inspires me to also learn how to take advice when needed! Thanks, subscribed!
I agree, you don't need an expensive tablet to make digital art. I bought a wacom tablet (a5 dimensions) for like 70 dollars (60 euros) and it's great for a beginner.
I want one one the wacoms but ive just bought a windows 10 laptop / tablet so im just going to download fire alpaca on that and see how it works before i buy a proper drawing tablet
Or, if you draw digitally on a mobile device, there are free programs that work really well (my favorites are IbisPaint X or Medibang Paint). It has pretty much all the features a good computer program has and you can draw with your finger if you don't have or prefer a stylus.
BecauseImHappie I use Sketchbook Express. My brother downloaded it for me on my granddad's ipad when i was 4 and im still using it today on my own ipad mini cx i dint think its very popular, i never really see or hear people talk about it
Personally (from what I have seen) I think pro-artists use custom brushes to save time, you don't have to use custom brushes to create nice looking digital art, but you need it if you want to be super efficient and meet deadlines while maintaining quality.
So, as someon who is not an artist, and this is like my first proper art video, what's the difference? What is there to customize that isn't already there ig.
@@mihailmilev9909 There are brushes that will instantly leave proper traces you need for example woodwork, metals and such things. These end up being easier to paint over as they already are shaped in a way where you won't need to go into much detail while working out the lines.
I've been doing digital art for nearly ten years now, and your tips helped to remind me of a few things. Everyone, just keep practicing! Art programs are a bit overwhelming but if you explore them and find one that suits you and get used to it, you'll get better and better!
how would you get that window where you can see a zoomed-out view of what you're doing? i understand the reference one but you had that smaller picture of what you were doing and do you use a programme for that too?
This was really useful. I learned heaps of tips. I went out and bought my graphics pad, and it is cheap and small; like you said. The tips I loved the most were the second window so that you can always see your whole art piece, and the app for reference photos.
I mean, Photoshop wasn't made for it either (in early versions), but it was amazing regardless. It's just unreasonably expensive. How do people not pirate software more often?
I use 2 brushes, I use a free software called Medibang paint, I use mapping pen on opacity of 55% for the sketch, and then pen for lines, I have some more suggestions, 1) Use layers! people hate layers cuz well they can be hard to understand, but I love layers, it takes practice just like anything, don't give up! 2) Use reference, it does not make you a bad artist, it is so helpful! Just don't completely trace, lol. 3) most softwares have this but use the setting correction! It makes your lines smooth, and it's especially helpful if your hand is shaky like mine, lol. okay I hope my suggestions helped, bye....
and for the people like me who cant even aford a drawing tablet just use the ibis paint x on your phone or tablet its a free program for the cheap people like me
I'm getting a drawing tablet, and I feel like I'm going to be prepared watching these things, art tips, drawing tablets, programs(I'm getting paint tool sai) I'm very excited about all these! I'm really enjoying your tips, and I feel like I'm ready to start digital art on the computer
I am not a starter but I really wanted some tips because I am kinda feeling down about my art. I found this video really helpful, thank you. (btw the way you shade is magnificent!)
Javierricardo Caballero Medibang is similar to FireAlpaca, but it has cloud saving, more brushes, and a separate circle/elipse snap, which FA doesn't have from what I remember.
Purple Fire 28, But there are also some brushes that FireAlpaca has that Medibang doesn't. Each has their own advantage. Medibang has a cloud you can save your drawings to, FireAlpaca has onion skin mode, Medibang has more snaps, FireAlpaca has my dearly love Marker brush, etc.
GIMP is terrible for digital painting. Krita's better for it. Nevertheless, I use both. Where GIMP shines, is the thing it was named after (full name's GNU Image Manipulation Program), which is photo manipulation. Things like removing zitz from your photos or putting your face on bodies of bodybuilders because let's be honest, you'll never be as handsome as them.
Ok first of all GIMP is awesome and if you don't like it for digital find another one and stop complaining. It's not there fault your not good it. And second of all LET'S NOT FORGET FIRE ALPACA!
@@victoriacrudup3477 They weren't complaining, just pointing out that GIMP is probably not the best for painting, which it's not lmao. Like they said it's awesome for photo manipulation :)
For anyone who hasn’t tried using clip layers I highly suggest looking up a video (or figuring it out yourself) to see how they work just found them and it has helped me greatly!
(OPINION) For me, I just use a freaking iPad, a stylus, and many free art apps that really work well. I would recommend starting like this, and then get a drawing tablet. But like I said, this is my opinion. If you are going to do this, I recommend the apps medibang and ibis paint. Note: I'm not hating on this video at all, this video is very helpful! Edit: If you don't have an iPad, then go for the drawing tablet. It's kinda common to have an iPad that's why I said this...
For a whole canvas view window in Krita, go to Settings > Dockers > Overview. Also, for flipping your image horizontally, press "M" (for mirror). Thanks for sharing your tips!
This was a phenomenal video, so helpful, precise, and practical! Thanks so very much for taking the time to go through each of the tips so thoroughly and to explain why you think each would be helpful. This was honestly so wonderful and unlike most tutorials I often see that are rather vague. Hope there will be more in the future and can't wait to see more of your art :)
Clip Studio Paint. Its way better than Photoshop for most painting and inking and drawing. It regularly goes on sale for $25 USD (this is called Manga Studio for physical copies) CSP is basically designed with digital artists in mind, whereas photoshop is designed with more general toolsets in mind for image editing. CSP also has a number of tools in it that are intended to help ease user error (wiggly strokes) or even hardware error (custom pressure curves for all your brushes) I can't go into all the ways my life started to suck so much less with CSP compared to the constant misery of trying to do things in photoshop even WITH "artisty appropriate tools." CSP is so good at enabling you to just draw, that you can even do very nice inking with a mouse. No tablet required. CSP has tools to compensate for that. I can't recommend enough that you all go download the trial and play with it. Its the program of choice for a lot of streaming artists, and being more, yes, MORE feature rich than photoshop, at a fraction of the price, and even lower regularly, I cannot explain to you how important it is that you know about it. (also, on a moderate few-year old laptap with middling performance at best, CSP handles canvases well over 10k x 10k without slowing down or becoming unstable, while Photoshop seems to start having issues at 2048 and above on the same budget hardware.) As an artist, it may be the best $25 of your life.
Absolutely agree with what you say about CSP, after every update they make the program even better. It was worth the £40 and will probably never go back to photoshop again. It's a great all rounder product especially if you like animating and I recommended it to artists of all levels.
Clip Studio Paint on their website is around 50-60 dollars, however if you go to amazon you can get it for half the price around 25 dollars. Just thought anyone who is looking to buy a good art program for cheap would like to know....
These are some great tips! I use medibang which is a free paint program. And about the "tradigital" art style, when I first started digital art I did just digital but it wasn't very good, then I didn't tradigital which at the time I didn't know was a thing until I talked to some friends about. I slowly faded away from that, but sometimes I go back to it. And digital art and traditional art have their differences but it is just personal preference. Nice vid!
Yup, from my couple of years experience digitally colouring in free line art downloaded from the internet, I concur these are some excellent tips. Thank you very much!
That kitty is so cute!! I've gotten into working with clipart to make digital cards or bottle caps, but I've only tried making actual clipart by using and filling shapes. I can't seem to control my mouse well enough to draw. lol. Thanks for these tips!
I was scouring the net trying to select today's topic for my new channel's group for the Top 10 Tuesday. I'm sharing your video with my crafty creators group and my older Sparkle list. I'd never heard of Krita, but have seen GIMP. I actually learned alot in Photoshop, so I typically use that, but understand it won't be a vectored image like in Adobe Illustrator. I am not experienced with Illustrator as much though. So I may give Krita a try if I experiment more with drawing rather than working in PS with shapes as mentioned above. Thanks for giving these great tips! I love the kitty cat, so I'm also going to share over at my Sparkle by Monica channel, too. Have a great day!
You should NOT just shade with different hues Unless you know Why you're doing it. Learn how light works and why sometimes a shadow has different color. ( usually because of bouncelight, or sometimes color temperature; not just some random funnies blah)
@Genevieve17 you should check some tutorials on TH-cam how to understand colours and light! I suggest you to watch Marco's Bucci videos, they are really helpful and he explain everything perfectly!
I lost mine, i had one for playing osu! but now I wanna try and get into drawing. Can't find it. Gonna buy a new one instead, it was pretty bad anyway (wacom bamboo)

i love my wacom tablet because the pen has 2 buttons on it which i use for pan/zoom and undo. on the tablet it also has 4 buttons which i can bind to do anything so i set it to change brush opaqueness, brush size, switch brush and switch layer. I can do almost everything without touching the keyboard, super useful!!
I Draw on my phone *cant afford Drawing tablet or Computer* and use a fine point stylus and An app called ibis paint which is free and I still manage to draw (decent) things. lmfao
many professional artists which do commissions work on tablets or phones! most tablets work on desktop computers too, and I bought my first tablet for £20!
Same I don't like using a pen either I like using my fingers. I'm fine with it for the sketch but I can't use a pen for the lineart. I can ink stuff traditionally but its just what I prefer.
Thanks for these great tips. I'm looking forward to do digital art, and these easy tips can get me more satisfied of my art. (Btw I am a 13 (almost 14) year old girl who reallllyy wants to do digital art for a long time, soooo yeah)

ctrl y = Redo
ctrl+shift+z = redo*
Ctrl shift z was redo in a program for me, odd to get used to but better in the long run cause I could do most shortcuts with 1 hand
Ctrl + Alt + Z = Step Back
Unless if your an iPad user

We gonna do the basic step:
Ctrl + Alt + Left = To the left
Ctrl + Alt + Z = Take it back now y'all
Ctrl + Alt + 1 = One hop this time
Ctrl + Alt + Num 6 = Right foot. Let's stomp
Ctrl + Alt + Num 4 = Left foot. Let's stomp

Same, i use it with Krita
im gonna buy this tablet for 50 bucks. it has great reviews and is a 10 x 6 inch tablet. it also works with my computer sooo :)
@fljopfljop I’ve used a Huion 420 ($20-$25) for about a year and it works well! I would recommend it
Same I also got a cheap (veikk a15)
@@TheDifferentAnimator Huion is so good
I happen to use the cheapest of the Wacom tablets and firealpaca. They're both easy to use and I recommend both.
Nice! Any artist can do great art with very cheap supplies :)
I want one one the wacoms but ive just bought a windows 10 laptop / tablet so im just going to download fire alpaca on that and see how it works before i buy a proper drawing tablet
Thanks this really helped, I need to work on my hand drawn art but I have been interested in trying out digital art.
I'm glad it helped!
question. How do i draw 3 pixel wide lines that don't look jittery? Is that even possible? or should i always draw with 20 pixel wide lines?
I agree this was super helpful!
Try to find a stabilizer in the program that you use, not all have one though so if not I would switch to one that has one if it bothers you a lot.
Also before you switch look into it and do research
Or, if you draw digitally on a mobile device, there are free programs that work really well (my favorites are IbisPaint X or Medibang Paint). It has pretty much all the features a good computer program has and you can draw with your finger if you don't have or prefer a stylus.
BecauseImHappie I use IbisPaint X too!
HI!!! I use ibisPaint X too! :3
BecauseImHappie I use Sketchbook Express. My brother downloaded it for me on my granddad's ipad when i was 4 and im still using it today on my own ipad mini cx i dint think its very popular, i never really see or hear people talk about it
i love ibis paint x. one short video and you get free tools for 18 hours
SO IM NOT THE ONLY ONE USING IBIS PAINT X
YAAAAAAYYY
It's really good tho, especially for beginners :)
Autodesk sketchbook is free and it looks really good! I would personaly recomend it for beginners ;)
I never really thought about another view window. That actually would save even more time. Awesome!
As soon as I learned you could do that, I never looked back!
exactly less zoom in and zoom out :)
but how can i do that?
on a mac
how would you get that window where you can see a zoomed-out view of what you're doing? i understand the reference one but you had that smaller picture of what you were doing and do you use a programme for that too?
My digital art looks like trash this video was like a godsend
This was really useful. I learned heaps of tips. I went out and bought my graphics pad, and it is cheap and small; like you said. The tips I loved the most were the second window so that you can always see your whole art piece, and the app for reference photos.
DONT USE GIMP. IT WAS NOT MADE FOR DRAWING. KRITA IS 1000 times better
Kieren Sprackett yes it was... it was made for art and editing
@@TeamParkhillIsVerySad wrong. It's even in tje name. Gnu image manipulation program.
@@TeamParkhillIsVerySad its usually used for vector art, I honestly hated it it took so much time lol but that's just me
I mean, Photoshop wasn't made for it either (in early versions), but it was amazing regardless. It's just unreasonably expensive. How do people not pirate software more often?
@@might_be_james3079 fire alpaca compares pretty well with SAI
I use 2 brushes, I use a free software called Medibang paint, I use mapping pen on opacity of 55% for the sketch, and then pen for lines, I have some more suggestions, 1) Use layers! people hate layers cuz well they can be hard to understand, but I love layers, it takes practice just like anything, don't give up! 2) Use reference, it does not make you a bad artist, it is so helpful! Just don't completely trace, lol. 3) most softwares have this but use the setting correction! It makes your lines smooth, and it's especially helpful if your hand is shaky like mine, lol. okay I hope my suggestions helped, bye....
where do u find the correction thing in medibang???
anica its called stabilizer its on top
Yeah, using 40 correction is really helpful with a mouse!
and for the people like me who cant even aford a drawing tablet just use the ibis paint x on your phone or tablet its a free program for the cheap people like me
Ovidija Draws I use it and it’s great! :D
no beacuse realy cheap [ smart, stealers] just crack stuff
Yea
True
Or MediBand for comic.
Medibang is very close to Photoshop and Sai. Also all of it's features are free on the tablet app.
Angie K Only mainstream platform it's not on is Linux, but Krita and MyPaint cover that.
Dinese K finally someone have the same opinion as me😂💔💔
I use medibang! :)
Medibang is awesome!
I use medibang too! It's awesome
For you digital artists, FireAlpaca is a super great app and it's completely free. I recommend it, it's kind of same than photo shop
Medibang does have a marker brush. You may just need to download it from the cloud first, which has 100+ brushes. But I understand what you mean.
When I downloaded firealpaca i could not start the program up and since it took up quite a bit of space i have to say i do not recommend FireAlpaca.
Javierricardo Caballero FIRE ALPACAS DA BEST! I tried medibang and it was the exact same but like a different layout. It's good and easy.

(OPINION)
For me, I just use a freaking iPad, a stylus, and many free art apps that really work well.
An iPad is more expensive than a Drawing Tablet lol
Hustensaftschmuggler True, but in some cases it's more common to have
Rachel Animations yeah! :)
Rachel Animations But if you want to try drawing, and you don't have an IPad, you better buy a drawing tablet ;)
Hustensaftschmuggler yes we know.
It regularly goes on sale for $25 USD (this is called Manga Studio for physical copies)
CSP is basically designed with digital artists in mind, whereas photoshop is designed with more general toolsets in mind for image editing.
CSP also has a number of tools in it that are intended to help ease user error (wiggly strokes) or even hardware error (custom pressure curves for all your brushes)
I can't go into all the ways my life started to suck so much less with CSP compared to the constant misery of trying to do things in photoshop even WITH "artisty appropriate tools."
CSP is so good at enabling you to just draw, that you can even do very nice inking with a mouse.
(also, on a moderate few-year old laptap with middling performance at best, CSP handles canvases well over 10k x 10k without slowing down or becoming unstable, while Photoshop seems to start having issues at 2048 and above on the same budget hardware.)
As an artist, it may be the best $25 of your life.
Absolutely agree with what you say about CSP, after every update they make the program even better. It was worth the £40 and will probably never go back to photoshop again. It's a great all rounder product especially if you like animating and I recommended it to artists of all levels.
I agree 100% that program saved me after my Photobucket expired
My dude.... You can get Photoshop for free
You just had to type a whole essay right?
Nice vid!
I watched this when it came out and I never really payed attention to it. But now I’m rewatching it, it’s helping a lot :3
You can darw on paper and trace it from pen tool(illustraitor)
You should NOT just shade with different hues Unless you know Why you're doing it.
Learn how light works and why sometimes a shadow has different color. ( usually because of bouncelight, or sometimes color temperature; not just some random funnies blah)
