    'You need to be your own record label before you can attract a record label' SPOT ON!!! Exactly our philosophy Ryan

      Defeats the purpose of a record company in that case. If I'm going to bust my ass just to get a record company's attention I may as well not even get signed with a record company.

    Absolutely agree. I'm an artist singer-songwriter and it seems like common sense. I have a saying, "Write, Record, Release, Repeat". At some point 5 or 10 years down the road, you've come a long way, and you're ready

    This is incredible Ryan!!!! My band is growing and we are getting great stats and start touring out of state shortly. Attracting a label is captivating to us and hearing you talk about the things we need to do in addition to what we are already doing is a huge help! Your advice has deffintly helped us build our brand. Thank you

    Great videos! I am a Country Americana artist and songwriter based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Do you have any advice specific to those genres?

    • @marcusmagellan
      @marcusmagellan ปีที่แล้ว

      Most Americana, country, blues, folk bands/artists seem to stay independent. I’m pretty sure artist like Pokey Lafarge or Woody Pines stay mostly independent occasionally signing single album deals with record labels.

    I wouldn’t chase a record deal with major label. Do everything DIY and wait for an offer. All you gotta have is a very good and detailed music business and marketing plan. Those things are like gold. Also, make sure you got your metadata accurately recorded.

    Ryan, thank you so much for filming such a comprehensive and exciting video! This is something to treasure as an independent artist and I am sure this will also provide great value to the musicians already signed to a label. Will be rewatching it several times definitely!

    Basically you need to do all the work that a label would have done on your behalf and once you have put in the hard work and figured it out then sign it all away to a label.

    • @marcusmagellan
      @marcusmagellan ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right “band puts all the work in just to sign it all away. If an independent band does everything a label does, why not just stay independent (?)

  • @GTSongwriter

    Is there a way to stay behind your artist name, stay as anonymous, no real pictures of you. I understand the song writer name has to be legit, but other than that, can a indie artist remain anonymous?

    I couldn't market myself to save my life and I'm not wealthy. Those are the two biggest things that go against me every single time. I also evidently don't have the look that a lot of record companies want. I don't know what that look is but whatever it is it's obviously not me.
