@26:00 what an incredible way to describe a feeling that many of us have probably felt before but never really thought much about. Love the way you describe perfumery, my man
I'm a produce manager and jack fruit is a sort of green/yellow spiny looking melon . They say it's smells fruity/musky but I've always gotten a tropical fruit - bubblegum vibe from it
Great impressions Dan. I remember a lot of people appreciating Civet when it first came out. Haven't sniffed it myself so it was great to get your take.
Great review! Love the format! Love Zoologist! My top 3 re Squid ( ink love), Camel ( amber tobacco love) and then comes Trex🤓 he s like a bad boy boyfriend u re not sure u wanna bring home to show ur mom!
@@nataliyarichei thank you for the comments on my videos 🙏 Trex can’t help himself, he just carries that musky scent with him and people are giving him a hard time about it 😂
I went back and forth with Squid. Sometime being intrigued with it other times finding it too harsh. I NEVER found it boring though. Lately when I’ve smelt it gives me nostalgia vibes of my early forays in niche and especially this house. Weirdly I think that is what is going to make me buy it. It feels like classic Zoologist to me
I wish it wasn't so cloyingly sweet on me. The first hour for me is so special that I absolutely want to own. It goes insanely sweet on me thereafter, absolutely the sweetest I've ever smelled personally.
Hey nice job! I think you were effectively detached and objective when describing ones you’ve smelled before. Very interesting house and I have yet to get my nose on them. Looking forward to future speed dating episodes! Potential houses to explore that perhaps you’d vibe with: Tauer(obviously!), Parfum d’Empire, Apoteker Tepe(can you get?), Arquiste just to name a few…
Thanks for the comment and suggestions! Tauer would definitely not be new to me, I smelled and wore everything but if you would like to see a quick and dirty I could do that.
I love Civet, I own a bottle and I even wear it to bed lol… if Im not mistaken I believe the idea behind this one is more like a homage to vintage perfume and to me it does have that vintage chypre flare to it. It gets a little more animalic in the dry down and a bit furry.
@@SeldomlyOften I feel you might once you get more wears out of your sample… something I came say is the scent is not heavy on projection but it last a long time.
@@Devasterium unfortunately those samples were to be rotated between people so I could not get a proper full wear in. I’ll try to get another personal sample or a bottle directly
the strange thing is, it has more civetone sacred scarab than civet, which has a very apricot peachy aldehidic thing going on like mitsuoko, maybe in the late late dry down some civet could appear but even less than gold man
@@pasf4118 I have a full bottle also, but given the ingredients of the frag and the perfumer, I was expecting 12h or more. It’s fine, I’m not complaining, it’s a great frag.
I absolutely love the house, totally my thing. I haven’t smelt many of them, the ones I remember are Iron Duke, Rake and Ruin (harsh is an understatement) and Terror and Magnificence (which I have a bottle of). Beautiful concept 👍👍👍
I appreciate the use of this format so I am looking forward on the next house you'll be covering (I made a bid with myself). Have you tried cockatiel? i am focusing part time on mimosa. cheers
Never tried Cockatiel, didn’t ever come across a sample. How is it? The notes and the animal itself wasn’t too inspiring. You think you know what’s next? Interesting!!
@@SeldomlyOften you need to like powdery, very powdery scents to enjoy cockatiel; I find the opening very interesting with the rhubarb counteracting the vanillic base. Many people find it off-putting and I can see why. (I also can see why it was awarded the olfactory award in the artisan category when was under another name and brand). I made three hypotheses about what's next, but chances are I will be proven wrong. Let's see.
Thanks for this Daniel. Idk this house cos we can't get it here but T-Rex is the only one that sounds interesting cos burning without Oudh/incense right?, I'm always looking for burning smells, ideally it would be a petrichor bonfire + salt profile I can't really find anywhere
Trex is a masterpiece of a frag. The trip of it is absolutely amazing: starts out super smoky and briny, charred wood, barbecue, and bitter, acidic air. The skies then clear and you get a lush tropical garden, wet and floral, the base is animalic and leathery.
@SeldomlyOften damn ok, my sis is gonna have to send me some from Canada. Thanks! If you like honey there is a very beautiful rich honey in the mid thru drydown in Teriaq. It's rich syrupy in texture but natural smelling like a dark honey into the leather
@@SeldomlyOftensome niche is limited here, the market is pretty trad so mostly decants of popular wearable niche only. But it's growing. If not my sis will just laugh at me for wanting a dinosaur perfume 😹
Trex is a special scent that gives its best in the drydown, it completely transitions from the burnt smell to a beautiful smooth floral. Try to stomach the opening and see where it goes; I love it so much.
@@Irinikarambatsou1 hey, no reason to subject yourself to something that doesn't work for you and your skin; my skin eats up acidity but does badly with bitterness so I stay away from wearing burnt rubber stuff unless I want to deliberately challenge myself :)
I like the zoologist concept about fragrances but they really need to amp up the animalics and natural ingredients. For the concept of the brand i find most of their fragrances to be very normal, very wearable...and not that challanging.
True and agree BUT most users are not thrill seeking fragrance nerds, if they want to sell products they need to balance out the wearability. I've seen some videos where people really frown at even the most easy ones from the house.
@@SeldomlyOften yeah it depends on where you at on your fragrance journey, once your nose starts developing, even the most popular zoologist's seem very wearable
the vast majority of fragrances are meant to smell somewhat decent or at least interesting in the air. Smokiness can convey mysterious confidence and can be seen as intriguing. I personally just enjoy the fine nuances of all odors.
Thanks for the comment! how much time would you like me to spend on a single frag? It can be a complicated thing to explain in 3 words, especially stuff you never smelled.
