Here is a chat I had with Helen Clarke in her original family home in Oranmore, Co. Galway. The chat was centered around the dresser and then moved to other areas such as farming memories and personal stories.
The dresser itself is in her old family home and she can trace it to her great grandparents, grandparents and parents. She believes the dresser was there since then and goes back to her great grandmother Mary King. The house originally belong to a land agent which would indicate why it is such good wood and detail.
It was originally brown like the doors and she remembers spailpíns from Connemara staying in the loft to the right when she was growing up. They worked the farm, didn’t speak English, but filled the kitchen with songs in the evenings. The jugs on the dresser were gifted with jam when a new baby was born.
