    Emmanuel Pahud is absolutely my favourite flautist and I adore his interpretation of this piece. It is quite a bit slower than some other versions I have listened to and by far the most beautiful. His technique is flawless. I am in awe of this man.

    I have listened to most of the modern interpretations of this piece. I always believed that the Marcel Moyse version was the closest to what my gut feeling says is the composer' true intent in part because he was least removed from the monsieur Debussy. Sort of like playing the old game telephone when the story becomes increasingly distorted the more it is told. I find Mr. Pahud provides everything that I heard in the Moyse and in a remarkable way, adds to the nuance to make it even more enchanting as the story, upon which this piece is based, would dictate.

    • @tennisgirl608
      @tennisgirl608 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +vtster This piece was originally written without bar lines, or breath marks. Debussy's intention it seems was to actually leave the piece up for interpretation. In the French modernist movement, as well as the Impressionist era (although Debussy hated the term) it was common to leave these pieces extremely fluid. I guess we will never really know what he imagined it as, because it was never written in stone.

    • @vtster
      @vtster 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kaitlyn Moseley Thank you Kaitlyn, I didn't know about the lack of traditional bar notation in the original score. It makes perfect sense to me that it was written in that manner. The final judgement and interpretation of a piece of music lies within each of us and I imagine no two are the same. The importance is in how we are moved. I can find equal enjoyment in listening to a well played Syrinx on solo flute as I can listening to the Rolling Stones' Sympathy for the Devil ( high volume ).

    Despite the fact that my Internet name is galway era, Now, the world of the flute is going to be Emmanuel Pahud era instead of galway era. Besides, James Galway shall be 80 years old just before coming Tokyo Olympic. Of course, he is a great flutist. Above all, I can't forget Galway's Prokofiev flute sonata with Martha Argerich. Regarding Emmanuel Pahud, I must admit that he has stood the top of the mountain called "Flute."
    Anyway, "Syrinx" that he plays is perfection itself. I could feel mysterious atmospere sufficiently.

    I love the way you describe his embouchure. I spent some time studying it in his 2001 Istanbul recording (Mozart DM Concerto), and I thought I might share my findings. The crucial element is the relaxed corners of the mouth; if tension builds there, it tightens the whole face. All the strength and control happens in the middle body of the upper lip, supported by the firm lower lip that controls the distance of the embouchure away from the strike-edge. Hope this helps; let me know either way!

    Este canto de amor último que Debussy dedica al mito de Pan, me parece significativo tanto por lo que me turba como por lo que revela. Siendo al mismo tiempo adiós y camino, muerte y renacimiento. Inspirado en la obra Psyché, de Gabriel Mourey, esta pieza de Claude Debussy ilustra la última melodía que toca Pan antes de morir. Enamorado hasta las trancas de la ninfa Siringa -que prefiere transformarse en cañaveral antes de ceder a sus deseos-, el dios de pastores y rebaños elige algunas de sus cañas para hacer con ellas un caramillo, instrumento hoy también conocido como flauta de pan o siringa. El relato de Mourey inspira a Debussy este lamento en el que Pan hallaría la muerte. ¡Puro soplo!
