You've noticed Telemann's influence on Bach, but listen to this passage from 7:23 to 7:30. This is the music of ENNIO MORRICONE the man with the harmonica
Pahud Divino, Interpretazione Magistrale, Complimenti vivissimi a tutti!!! Giganteschi, ineguagliabili musicisti 💖💖💖👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💖💖💖 Cordiali saluti, Anna e Luigi
Usually I cannot enjoy metal flute together with strings, especially in Baroque music. But in this Telemann concert Pahut plays his instrument (a common Boehm-System flute made from gold in high quality) so different, dynamic, warm, tender, and when bright not too dominant. He enriches the slow movements with brilliant subtle ornaments, even well adapted to the strings, so that I'm really charmed. The whole orchestra is styling very well.
RIP Rainer Kussmaul - what an inspiring artist he was! His ensemble - the Berliner Barocksolisten - together with the breathtaking artistry of Emmanuel Pahud - a dream team!!!!!!! I heard them in Jan. 2001 in Frankfurt Alte Oper - so wonderful memories are coming back when I watch this sublime interpretation here on youtube. Thank you so much for posting this excellent filming.
Such an exquisite rendition (sighs), thanks for sharing this Video ! Emmanuel Pahud never disappoints me, though he's not playing in an original instrument, his interpretation of Telemann's Concerto in G is so tender that he undoubtedly confirms us he's among the best flautists in the history of music.
Marvellously sensitive playing. My own specialty is the one-keyed flute (traverso), but Emmanuel Pahud is a master at translating 18th-century music on the modern concert flute. I always learn quite a bit from listening to him play.
Worth noting that the Opening>Andante of this ravishing Flute/Oboe Concerto was taken/slightly modified by JSBach for his famous Keyboard Work in f-minor!! BWV1056/2= (156/1) Also for quite some time this Work was considered without Bass Part, yet enough of it survives to make a good editorial reconstruction(Severinus Press SUTE95 of 1998!) Back to this Performance Emmanuel P & the Berliners give a very fine rendition in this Japanese Concert! He was the very First to record this Piece(Reconstructed) and I was luck to get a signed copy!☺
It´s true... I cannot hide my first thought: Oh my God that is classic example of stealing. But perhaps Telemann wanted in a modern way demonstrate his love for music of Bach, by putting one of his beloved melodies in his concerts.
"Slightly modified" is a huge understatement. There is actually very little Bach's and Telemann's version have in common, apart from the first 2 bars. Form, harmony progression and melodic contour are simply way apart. In fact, it is a perfect example of what a genius can make out of a good idea, as opposed to a fine craftsman. Bach has a very clear sense of form, balance, direction and melodical expression, while Telemann moves around using forumulae of the emerging galant style.
Correct. Bach used the opening few bars of it as the basis for the melody in the sinfonia of that cantata. He also used it in harpsichord concerto no. 5
+Paul Jacobs and Barbara Logen It is the other way around. This concerto was composed 1716 and surely is one of the earliest solo concertos by any german composer, so impressed Telemanns friend JS Bach that he modelled the second movement of BWV 1056 on its opening andante.
+Paul Jacobs and Barbara Logen Hi, can someone tell me what type of flute he's using? I hear there's many types. I really like the sound of this one :) thanks in advance.
Wonderful concerto and a great performance! I wanted to play it myself (possibly with a piano) but I cannot find the notes anywhere. Anybody has an idea where can I get them?
Hi everyone! Maybe someone can help me? I love this music very much and Pahud is really my favorite flute player. I try to find notes of this composition. I tried to search on IMSLP, but there was nothing. This concert was reconstructed, but maybe somewhere I can find notes? Please, help!

Handel did actually "borrow" copiously+freely from his long-standing friend..whom he met in those early Student days on the way to Leipzig...Friendship lasted all their lives!!
@@davebollinger5590 Handel also borrows from Stradella, Bononcini and Scarlatti (from these two the first period) ... especially in the last works ... I think he did it because in the years 1730s-1740s no one would have remembered old melodies performed in distant places ... himself in the last opera phase he borrowed from _Vincer se stesso è la maggior vittoria_ (or _Rodrigo_ ), _Agrippina_ , _Teseo_ or from olds cantatas of the Italian period
@@DGJJJP Indeed! And many others too! He took lots of material from Telemann's Harmonischer Gdst Cycle 1725-6, and Tons from the fine Instrumental Collection "Musique de Table" 1733!
Why are you saying this everywhere? You are giving false information. This Telemann concerto is from 1716, while Handel's Teseo is from 1712, 4 YEARS EARLIER, so if there is any similarity then Telemann was inspired by Handel.
@@davebollinger5590 Bach was also inspired by Telemann compositions and there was nothing wrong with that (1st movement is identical to a Bach piece). What Ivy Higa says is false. Handel's Teseo is from 1712, four years before that Telemann flute concerto, 1716.
+Aicila Burke Please look what I have posted today. It is mainly not the instrument but the skill to play it, which makes the difference within the modern Boehm flutes. But there is a real difference in the coulor of sound between the wooden flute of Baroque, the wooden flute of early 19th century, and the Boehm-System flutes. Sincerely Dietrich

Hello ... you have this score ... could you please send me a message?
Great artist, but too romantic way of Baroque for me
Telemann was a Baroque romantic. Ahead of his time. More sophisticated than other composers of his time like Bach and Handel.
Well, we have in place the two best flutists to choose from. Two? I'm dismissing Galway. He's old news. It's either Pahud or Denis Bouriakov. Take your pick. My money is on Bouriakov. Just Google it and listen to his incredible recitals. It's arguable of course.
Why would you even have the need to elect the "best" flutist? And what does "best" mean?
Can there really be a "best" musician since everyone plays with their own style?
What's the best mountain? Or the best animal?
Bouriakov is a fantastic flute player, but he is very far to be better then Pahud.
