Paul Ibarra usc was fantastic, but the next season Texas was even better. The Texas usc rose bowl was one of the greatest college football games ever. So many nfl players came out of that game. Not sure if we will ever see 2 teams that good go at it again. Vince young should have won the heisman but the national championship trophy was even better and it came “back to Texas, all the way back to Austin Texas baby” 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@budaustin6681 the 04 SC team was better than in 05. At least they had a stellar defense that year. The 04 SC team comfortably beats that 05 Texas team. Let's not forget Texas needed a few huge breaks including the uncharacteristic fumble by Bush while taking it to the house and the touchdown pass Young made while his knee was down.
Indeed. This game reminds me of when my Hurricanes curb stomped Nebraska in the Title Game in 2001. I think we led 34-0 at halftime and put it on cruise control after that. Could've racked up 80 that night if we wanted to. The last hurrah for Miami as it would turn out, even though we technically won the championship game the next season vs. Ohio State until that son of a bitch, crooked ref through a flag about 20 seconds after the final play in regulation.
I keep hearing that auburn would have gave usc a good game or beat them that year. USC played them that year, and whoop their ass 23-0!! Wtf r u talking about. Hahahaha This SC is top 5 all-time. Defensively and offensively. And well coached. Fight on!! ✌️
Tebow might have gotten a whole 35 rush yards against this team. Best of the decade, easily. If they had that defense against Texas it would have been 3 in a row.
I never get tired of watching this, its just too funny and awesome at the same time, go sc .... I honestly wonder how stoops felt after the first quarter
As an OU fan we were definitely outmatched. Kudos to USC this year they were making some amazing plays in this game. At least OU has done more with its tradition! #1 of the modern era!
I'm die hard Bama fan (33 YEARS) but I'm give credit where credit is due, Even though we won 2 national championships out of the last 3 years and play lights out D, I always envied and admired this USC team style of play, Wish Nick Saban would let Bama offence open up and play like this,
As an SC fan I would love to get a home and away with you guys. You are defined as a program by the quality of your opponents, and let's be honest the most storied programs of all time are SC, Bama, ND, & Michigan.
Just got done watching the Texas-USC NCS game from 2006, the replay is better than most live games, looking forward to USC football this year, them VS sec should be spectacular!!!
I personally think the 06 rose bowl title game is by far the greatest game i ever saw played. hands down. both teams live up and surpassed the hype and built up to that game. and tho my trojans lost. i was the greatest collection of talent in one field in my eyes.
USC has the most first round draft picks as well as the most nfl draft picks out of any other school. USC is tied for the most players on NFL rosters. USC has the most NFL hall of famers... don't even talk about looking where the players turn up.
+Steven Saucedo I know lendale white was a beast back then , i didnt like reggie bush but lendale white was dope. In the NC against texas Lendale white really impressed me
I think I expressed that fairly well. Again, "There is mutual respect between and for two of the greatest college football schools in the history of the game. I would ask you to acknowledge that."
As a Texas fan, i have always enjoyed this video. OU got simply throttled, and embarrassed in this game, then Texas beat this exact same USC the next year. OU can never live this down. Stricken title or not, I will never forget this one.
It wasn't the same USC team. That entire Defensive Front 7 for USC went to the NFL the next year year including All Americans Lofa Tatupu, Matt Groetegood, Sean Cody, and Mike Patterson. USC also kicked starting CB Eric Wright off the team.
@bamafan73191 gotta lot of love for that comment bro. congrats to Bama, hopefully USC can play bama in the title game one year ; ) that'd be awesome. good job man earned my respect. FIGHT ON!!! USC..... against all odds!!!!!!!!
Honestly. If you go back and look at some of the stats from the 05' season, it's absolutely absurd. They had numerous games with over 700+ yards of offense. Them putting 600+ yards on someone was no big deal. It's definitely the most balanced offense of all-time seeing as they would rush for 300 and pass for 300 a game.
I am a sooners fan and watching this film brings back painful memories. Ill give USC credit where its due. They came to play and OU didnt. I hope we get a rematch this year!!!
You can stripped the title but you can't strip this memory, we made OU look like a highschool team, and that will never change doesn't matter what the NCAA or BCS does. FIGHT ON!
Choklahoma strikes again! 2004-2005 USC football team was the best I have ever seen! I don't care what Texas did in the Rose Bowl, if Carroll ran Bush of 4th down instead of White, USC wins 3 straight National Championships!
For Jasonth13, to follow up, in 2004 we had an unbeaten Auburn team that had two running backs, playing at the same time, who would be top 5 picks that April. We had an unbeaten Utah team with a QB who would be the no. 1 pick that April. We had a one-loss Texas team led by Vince Young.
These highlights give me the chills. This game was a blowout even without Bush's production. Anyways, I thought the NCAA and BCS wiped this game from history? You mean the game really did happen.lol. USC is no longer BCS champs but they are still 2004 National Champs since AP is allowing them to keep the AP title.
it was just so impressive to see. the entire team, every aspect of USC, played better than their opponent. every player. it was a 2005 USC vs a pretty darn good senior high school team from Oklahoma....
The media was calling USC the best team ever because of the amount of talent that was returning on offense. Matt Leinart,Lendale white,Reggie Bush,Steve Smith, Dominique Byrd, and the whole O-line returned as well. On D, there was many holes to fill. Mike Patterson,Shaun Cody,Lofa Tatupu,Matt Grootegoed,Eric Wright(kicked off the team),Jason Leach,Kevin Arbet. It was pretty evident in 05 about USC's defense giving alot of yards and points to their opponents.
I think in 2009 the teams to watch out for will be Ole Miss, Texas, USC, Penn State, Iowa, Virginia Tech, and possibly Utah as a BCS buster (or rather, BCS smasher, since they've been smashing every team they've played in a BCS bowl), but TCU looks like a team on the rise. I expect Ohio State and Florida to start off highly ranked, and then finish around 16/17.
i went to the game today, last game of the orange bowl, amazing. people were taking pictures everywhere because it was the last game at the orange bowl. now, it's gonna get destroyed. anyway, nice video
That is true, the 1982 national champs actually lost to an 8-4 Alabama team by three touchdowns (Penn State), but upsets are a big part of sports. I've seen amazing teams lose to teams that didn't even make it to a bowl. I think the 2005 Trojans, although good offensively, had a flimsy defense, so if you could stop Leinart and Bush, you had a shot at beating them. The 2008 Trojans had a good offense and amazing defense. Agree completely about the 2002 Trojans though, very underrated squad.
I think the West Virginia game was a combination of an Oklahoma that can't handle bowl games and an underrated West Virginia team. Bob Stoops reminds me a lot of Glenn Mason who used to coach Minnesota. Mason during the regular season could make his team be a thorn in anyone's side, no matter the record, but despite outcoaching many Big Ten coaches during the regular season, he would always collapse in bowl games. The Insight Bowl was the game that ended up getting Mason fired.
Oklahoma's gameplan going into this was to shut down Reggie Bush, which they, to their credit, were mostly successful at. But they didn't account for Lendale White, and it shows. This was probably USC's most impressive win of the 00's.
The 2004 USC team was one of the three greatest college teams to ever take the field. The other two? 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami. SC that year went 13-0 against a schedule Sorensen football rankings rated the 5th toughest in the country. They had an average winning margin of 25 points per game. The defense was awesome,#1 in rushing defense #1 in turnover margin #1 in sacks #3 in scoring D #9 in passing D and 22 picks! And I dont care if Bush's parents were living in Buckingham Palace!!
If the Illini make the Rose Bowl again next year, or whatever bowl they go to, I'm hoping and expecting a more confident team to come out and play. After that fumble, Illinois seemed to lose their confidence and started playing scared. I guess two 2-10 years can hurt your confidence. But I was happy with how they did in the Rose Bowl for 3 quarters.
This team vs the 2011-12 Alabama team. I really don't know, fantastic players on both sides for both teams, amazing coaches on both sidelines... It's one of those times when you wish you had a time machine
can u imagine the matchups if usc played uf in the title game last yr. both teams go like 4 backs deep, amazing qb's, the defenses and the speed level out and the wideouts are fairly even..... i think usc has more talent there though. the game wouldve been soooooo entertaining and i would predict... 28-13, USC GOOO TROJANS!
Greatest college football team of my lifetime. I think everybody gives 2001 Miami the nod over this SC team because of all of the future NFL stars on their roster that year, but it's not like they were all playing at the same time. USC had a better coach and beat a MUCH better team in their BCS title game than Miami did.
what are you on? It wasn't just White and Smith, it was the all american O-LIne (Ryan Kalil, Deuce Latui, Sam Baker, Winston Justice), and 2 all american WRs like DJ and Steve Smith, and 3 time all american QB Leinart. Also we had 2 all american D-Linemen (MIke Patterson, Shaun Cody) and 2 all american LBs (Lofa Tatupu, Matt Grootegoed). And all american Safety darnell Bing. That was one of the most stacked teams, and we had a great defense, Bama couldn't handle that team.
football is the ultimate "show me" sport. the fact that some players took, and got the school sanctioned does not erase these games, they happened. You can't convince me that other schools players arent doing the same. That being said USC did need to be put in check.
Battle of the titans. USC rolls after a even played beginning. Decimated the boomer sooners. Made up from the year before split national title. FIGHT ON!!
And three years is enough time for the landscape of a sport to change. The NBA is completely different in 2007 than it was in 2004. Miami was the only team of it's kind in 2001; by 2004, the best teams were faster and had more athletic gamebreakers than in 2001. Texas, SC, Florida, LSU and so on, the recruiting of speed by the top contenders continues to advance.
I picked Oklahoma to win this game, 30-27, and USC just went out there and crushed a great Sooners team. Of the 10 BCS national champions, I'd say this 2004 Trojans team was 4th best one.
All respect man! I like to state my opinion to people who knows football. NOT FANS. FANS don't know football just wins and losses and no respect for other teams. But respect your opinion and maybe we can debate on a different game next time. lol
no we would actually this team has 2 heisman winners (even if one was vacated) , they have alot of people on this team that are in the NFL right now and the better coach.
I mean currently... since Pete Carroll got to USC he's been the man. ESPN even said that his hiring was one of the top PAC 10 moments of the BCS era... He's already proved he's a better coach than Stoops.
I was predicting Ohio State to beat LSU, but I wasn't too surprised that they lost. The Big Three (Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan) of the Big 10 were hampered by injuries and players being suspended, so that led to some problems this past year. Amazingly, of those three, two of them managed to win their bowl games. One thing that helped out Big 10 teams was playing an unusually bad Minnesota team, who won no games in regulation. I think Minnesota was actually blown out by a I-AA team.
Very true, it seems that after 2000, Oklahoma has become like the Buffalo Bills of college football. Always making it to a big game but laying an egg against their opponent, leading to some confusion. As a Big Ten guy, I hate to admit it, but Ohio State is a lot like Oklahoma in that respect, a very different team in bowl games than during the regular season. Given the struggles with Penn State and Michigan, we knew Ohio State was vulnerable in 2006, but I don't think anyone expected a blowout.
I'm sorry, but please don't tell me that the BCS voting process doesn't have JUST A LITTLE BIT of politics involved. USC has always had mid-season burps, but they always finish strong. Pete has always been BIG-TIME in BIG-TIME games, can you, JOKER178 say the same for Stoops?
Yeah, Glen Mason was fired after Minnesota imploded during the Insight Bowl after building a 38-7 lead over Texas Tech. I think their loss to North Dakota State was the first ever in over 100 years if I remember right. I think the Gophers can get better, because it's hard to get worse. They did give a few teams a good game, though. But I think they started to fall apart in 2005 after Penn State absolutely demolished them. At that time they were ranked #18.
I think what would have helped Penn State against Oklahoma more than anything is Evan Royster. That guy is like the Energizer Bunny of power backs. I saw him drag about 7 tacklers against Ohio State at one point for about 5-10 yards. And Clark is also a great power runner. The Penn State defense is overall pretty good, at least the front seven. The secondary always has some question marks, though. So I think they'd have probably blitzed Sam Bradford all night.
i think that usc could be the only pac 10 team to stand a chance in the bcs championship game against florida, alabama, texas. usc have won all the bowls that they went to this decade except against the longhorns. but still this proves that usc can stand a chance against all those other strong football teams.
It's quite possible, and those are good points, but one thing about the 2004 defense was that they were opportunistic, as you see in this game. The offense in 2004 might not have been as good, but the defense let them set up shop with superb field position. The only real hiccups were squeakers against Stanford, Cal, and Oregon State (who always seem to have good luck against the Trojans or at least give them fits). But still, it's fun to think about these hypothetical matchups of great teams.
Nobody remembers Florida losing to Ole Miss? That loss sorta helped hype the Rebels as a legitmate SEC contender going into next season. Just because Tebow cried his way to the title game on national television after losing, doesn't mean we forgot. the Sanchez thing was a joke. His father is a long-time Orange County firefighter living in Mission Viejo; I think they already had plenty of money. When you say USC; people think consistent national title contender. Hopefully against Tebow.
THAT WAS THE COMPUTER POLL. The Coaches and the AP had USC ranked #1 heading into the bowls. The Coaches poll is part of the BCS but only factored in about 33% of the old BCS. The computer part of the BCS had LSU and OU ahead of SC because they don't look at margin of defeat or time of defeat. OU didn't even win their conference. And the Coaches are obligated by contract to vote the winner of the BCS title game #1. If they don't, they can get busted for breach of contract.
It's not an oxymoron. In the age of the BCS, the AP #1 ranking is not indicative of a National Championship, split or otherwise. A National Championship title indicates that some sort of game was played to attain that title, not beating a #4 team in a non-BCS Championship team. The AP "champion" is basically another, less dominant organization than the BCS saying "here, we think you're the best, even though you played no championship games this year."
I am not going to argue against USC being the best team in the nation that year. They were the best team. I do however think that should have been Auburn vs. USC. Auburn got screwed over in the ratings.
@hellojulie I guess what you're saying is we have to go by point margin from one year to the next and we lost to LSU by 23 points in 03 beat them by 1 point in 04, and we lost to SC by 23 points in 03 so that must mean we would've beat them by 1 point in 04. VT was shut out going in to the fourth quarter against Auburn. Somehow Auburn gave up 13 points in the last quarter. And y'all need to remember that Auburn used to play better on the road so the home advantage thing doesn't bare much weight.
What's weird is I had a strange dream about this game last night. Don't remember much except that I was discussing what happened in this game with someone.
"You guys played no body that year." Umm, as a Longhorn fan, I take issue with that. They played Texas and handed them their only loss, who beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

10 and 7 do you know what that is Gatortramp? its the Pac 10 record against the sec! so who is better now?
All respect man! I like to state my opinion to people who knows football. NOT FANS. FANS don't know football just wins and losses and no respect for other teams. But respect your opinion and maybe we can debate on a different game next time. lol
no we would actually this team has 2 heisman winners (even if one was vacated) , they have alot of people on this team that are in the NFL right now and the better coach.
Because the NO.1 team is the 2001 Miami Hurricanes, the NO.2 team is the 2005 Texas longhorns, and the NO.3 team is the 2000 Oklahoma Sooners.
I mean currently... since Pete Carroll got to USC he's been the man. ESPN even said that his hiring was one of the top PAC 10 moments of the BCS era... He's already proved he's a better coach than Stoops.
@okcboi How Many National Championships did they win?
@hellojulie o and not to mention, it is ESPN that has rated OU number 1 of the modern era.
Shut the fuck up.
Ohio State has 3 National Championships in my lifetime.
i loved that game, USC freaking rocks!!
4:05 Lendale White does Deion's celebration dance. 😂
Pedo State is a joke of a program.
Because USC also had to vacate the '06 rose bowl appearance vs Texas, they're now officially undefeated in BCS bowls.
This video is about the 2004 BCS game, not 2009 season.
i think that usc could be the only pac 10 team to stand a chance in the bcs championship game against florida, alabama, texas. usc have won all the bowls that they went to this decade except against the longhorns. but still this proves that usc can stand a chance against all those other strong football teams.
I won $100 off this game back in high school
It's quite possible, and those are good points, but one thing about the 2004 defense was that they were opportunistic, as you see in this game. The offense in 2004 might not have been as good, but the defense let them set up shop with superb field position. The only real hiccups were squeakers against Stanford, Cal, and Oregon State (who always seem to have good luck against the Trojans or at least give them fits). But still, it's fun to think about these hypothetical matchups of great teams.
@gasperoutdoors we shared the championship with LSU in 04 and tech. counts as a nat champ win. won in 05 and lost in 06.
"You guys played no body that year."
Umm, as a Longhorn fan, I take issue with that. They played Texas and handed them their only loss, who beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl.
Hook'em
@EnvelopedInDarkness Agreed. Cody and Patterson at DT and Tatupu at MLB....
