Cactus Rock Revenge, the battle of the Midrange! | Disc Golf Journeys

  • To celebrate Independence day I made the trek back out to Cactus Rock in Tuscaloosa to see if my theory will work. I am going to play the course with only a midrange and see if I just stay within my game and the fairway I can tame this monster of a course. Did I mention it is hot and sweaty? If you get squeamish looking at a 54 year old man slowly melt, then you might want to look away!
I can't believe I was actually thinking about trying a running round as a second round on my way to the course. it only took about 4 holes to convince me that was a very bad idea :D

"it's muddy...as you can see." 😂hahahaha the man is a legend!! Can't imagine solo disc and solo filming it all. Props to you for being a rockstar! Fun round!!

As you know... sometimes that camera can stare back at you out there! Did I look as old and tired as I felt? :D Thanks buddy!

"come out to the Rock; have a few laughs" made me actually laugh out loud

You know, I was thinking of who would appreciate that one... and you were in my general grouping of guys that understand the quote, but doubly so since you have experienced the Rock. :D Your comment made me smile. Thanks

Nice round, Pete. We were there the day after you played -- had to sit out the storm when we showed up, so things were nice and muddy for us. The guys at the course told us how you finished with a mid-only round, but that didn't stop me from lugging a full bag with a dozen discs I never used and getting in the trees with drivers I can't control... lol. One day I'll wise up. Thanks for the video! and keep 'em coming!

Wow, I can imagine the mud was rough after a storm... of course I was so sweaty by the end of both nines I looked like I was caught in a storm. I am hoping that I will remember my own advice next go around and not try to power drive everything and stay smart... but we all have a little voice in our heads that say "just rip the driver!!!!" Thanks for watching!

Good on ya for getting out there Pete and taming the beast! It was a sweatfest being out there, way up here. Can't imagine down there.

Thanks my friend I probably should've waited a week after being overseas before I tried to tackle it. Because I was pretty wiped out but I'm glad I did it now

Loveing throwing my mid range seems to be the most non scared disc to throw for me. Simple stright and long 😊

I think the midrange is such a good learning tool for shot shaping and gaining confidence, but so many folks want to jump to throwing drives 500ft. If you can work a midrange, you can do some damage on the course. :D Thanks for watching!

Love the vid. If you don't mind me asking. What camera are you using.

I don't mind at all , it is the DJI Osmo pocket three, it's just a little video recorder on a gimbal. And I have that mounted to a IFootage monopod

I was there on the 4th as well. Your round looked a lot like mine. I got to throw a lot more than you did though. I ditched my bag after the front nine and played with two discs on the back nine(a mid and a driver). Did you miss the little rain we got or was it in your break? Thanks for the Awesome video

Fortunately I didn't get caught in the rain, it just looked like I was drenched from a thunderstorm but that was all sweat :-) yeah I made a mistake the first time out there bringing a big bag and I was regretting it by the back half of the course. So I totally get it. Thanks for watching

    From another old guy, can’t believe you can throw a mid 300. I throw a 145 g 11 speed 250

Well, it helps that I am 6'3" and back 30 years ago my nickname was the big armed monkey... so I have always thrown pretty far... but I am definitely going backwards in my distance these days. Hence the reason I am emphasizing control and short game. This new generation of players is throwing so far, all we can do is beat them with our skill. And remember, there is always someone wishing they could throw as far as you... so keep it up! Thanks so much for watching!
