    Dunbar- The legend.. When he appeared everyone separated for him to make his grand entrance, just like the King he is. I just love everything about Dunbar, and most of all how he gives you (Dusty) the respect as his human. I can't wait to see how many babies you get from Dunbar and Hoss with this new herd. They are going to be filled with personality for sure!!

      Do you now have 3 herds? Dunbar's, Big Joe's and Hoss? 😂 Love them all ❤❤❤❤

      @@deloresrogers685 Dunbar has always been my favorite even before Big Joe and Hoss came along. He has always had great respect for Dusty, and I love his playful self... Hoss reminds me of Dunbar when he was young, and Big Joe is just Mr. Serious.

    You shouldn't be so anxious to kill off Blackberries bushes. Blackberry bushes are considered to be super foods. Also, here in North Western Montana they go for $10-14.00 a pound. Could be another source of resources. Dunbar face lights up when he sees you. He enjoys your company and cubes you bring him. The herd is really content. Seems Eleanor has found herself a boyfriend. That will keep her busy. Also it means she won't get picked on and has fully transitioned into the herd. 7 healthy red dogs, so far - that's great!!

    • @CrossTimbersBison
      @CrossTimbersBison  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They’re invasive though. If you don’t stay on top of the berries, they will take over an entire pasture. Which takes away grass from the bison. Bison have to have grass to eat. They don’t eat blackberries

    Hey Marissa, Dusty and Dunbar! I have never, ever seen a pasture full of so many Black-Eyed-Susan in bloom in my life!!! The setting with the Bison grazing and drinking water in the creek, is a treasured sight that leads me to imagine them roaming across the Prairies on the American Plains in a herd size number so large it stretched as far and wide as the eye could see! They are a National Treasure that were killed for sport almost into extinction.

    When my husband and I were running a ranch in idaho I named all the cows and calves. The boss lived in California and couldn't believe. I had done that and when we were working the cattle every time He was blown away when I gave him a name for each animal. They knew their name sand for the most part would respond when you called their names. The boss was blown away. By the next year he too was using their names. He looked at me and said he would have never believed it.

    Thanks for another great herd check. I would strongly suggest taking care of those Musk Thistles. If you let them go they will take over the entire Ponderosa! I spent every summer of my childhood cutting Thistle as soon as I could swing a Machete. They will eat some of the blossoms when they're purple and sweet but they turn into ugly seed heads in no time. The dang things spread on the wind like Dandelions!

    • @sallysullivan4463

      Musk Thistle, Scotch thistle - I love it and hate it ! Love the beautiful Purple bloom and since I have Scotch ancestry I want to respect that link - but if it gets started, It will take over. Really battling it takes leather chaps, sleeves, & gloves, and Machetes and hoes . You try to burn it out, and next year it will be twice as dense ! 🧓

When I was little, I knew where every horse lived within 30 miles and where the pony rides could be had. Lived 40 minutes from the US Equestrian team in Gladstone , N.J. and visited every summer. Is Brooks horse crazy? Hope she is and we can watch her passion grow.

    I love watching you and your Bison. Bison is my favorite animal, and I am grateful for the chance to watch you and your family and all you do. We do eat Bison about once a month. But I am curious, why do you kill the wild blackberries. We love the wild blackberries.I mix them with wild black raspberries to make jam for the family. I do remove the seeds as much as possible. We are watching the few plants we have, waiting to pick them We don’t have many. We got a gallon of the wild black raspberries in the freezer and hope for at least that many wild blackberries. That should make about16 pints of our favorite jam. I do understand you need grass for the Bison. We only have 14+ acres, but I’d love to have most of it covered with wild blackberries and Raspberries.
