John, I’m 73. I’m waiting until the tech life blows over too. But in the meantime, my iPhone has a cover, I use the cloud, and don’t bother with “Siri”. Again, I’m 73 and come from the days of rotary phones and no seat belts. Get with it all now before you get entrenched in the crotchity. Get a good child proof case, join the cloud and listen to Tara. She understands the assignment. And give her the yellow tile.

When renovating my kitchen, I remember sending the children upstairs for a bath, forgetting the dishes were in the bath! When i went up to check, there were two of them in the bath, 'washing' the dishes along with themselves in bubbles, while the 3rd was 'drying' them in the bath towels... happy days x

Not happy John just vetoed Tara’s tile when she’s the main one in the kitchen. And secondly the blues do not match Tara was right it needs a soft buttery yellow it’s a complimentary color for blue. Usually John listens to Tara’s wishes and the tile thing really bothered me. 😢
Since you didn't let Tara have a yellow kitchen it would have been nice to honour her wish to have the yellow tile. She is the one cooking and cleaning the kitchen.

I am a 78 year old woman. If I wanted a small yellow tile in my kitchen counter , it would not need to be discussed. Blue and yellow do not clash. Someone needs to give in a bit? I know he is proud of his work and rightly so.

Genuinely not saying this for the sake of following other comments but I absolutely get that a splash of yellow would be stunning..whether on a tiny tile or a piece of art. In a small space a blot of yellow catches the eye and is like a glimpse of sunshine. It's cheery. I'm married to a builder..builders look at the practical ..the job..partners look at the finishes..the colour..making the space come alive. 💛
BTW the blue looks awesome and I agree… a little bit of sunshine won’t hurt ❤️🕊❤️

I love how relaxed you guys are as parents. I am afraid I was a bit of a helicopter mom; running around trying to keep my daughter out of harms way. It was hard for me to relax enough to let her explore on her own…. I also love how much the Portuguese love kids and seemingly have them involved with everything. Seeing Crusoe and Sawyer picking grapes (and eating them of course) and riding in the diggers, running around in bare feet, and helping you do all sorts of things is sooo much fun. I am sure you have exasperated moments but I don’t know how you get things done with those two active explorers!

John, yellow is a happy colour! It does wonders when combined with blue. Adding bits and pieces of yellow and green will uplift the mood of the kitchen trust me.

John, take it from a woodworker - seal the insides of your drawers and cabinets with polyurethane. The raw wood absorbs humidity from the unfinished side. It will eventually warp your panels. Just a pro tip.

In my eyes, the blue paint isn’t right shade. It may look ok when finished, but I not sure. Some how you usually make the finished product look amazing 😊😊a creative genius.

Blue paint has too much green in it. The tile is more Cobalt blue .

As an I.T professional i would not rely 100% on storing your data on cloud storage, you should store it locally as well because on the cloud they control the servers so control your data and your access. I'm pretty sure they can also use it for their own purposes (read the t's and c's to confirm)
I think the color in the old kitchen was truly very beautiful. The dark color would make the new kitchen dark, especially because you don't have large windows in this room.
We will see the results really soon
@@Danigys me too, but doesn’t match the new kitchen’s “Dutch Blue” tiles. But I don’t think the dark aquamarine blue does either.

John, I don’t use iCloud but my phone and iPad have good quality screen protectors on and strong but lightweight cases. Kitchen is looking good, great colour, Yellow is a sunshine and happiness colour and goes with blue, maybe the odd accessory Tara. ❤ xxx

I empathise with you Tara on the lack of kitchen sink. We’ve been without one for 2 months now while my sister gets a new kitchen installed. We’ve been using a tiny downstairs toilet sink or upstairs bath with jug and a basin.The kitchen is in but tantalisingly, the sink is note yet plumbed ( nor any ovens, fridge, dishwasher waiting for electrician). But the sink is the one we dream about! Soooon we hope!
I almost passed out laughing while watching the boys trying so hard to get grapes. I could literally send you the same videos from our 4 boys. Such a wonderful life we are all living/experiencing. ♥️😂

I’m so glad to see that both boys are OK after the phone drop. They are so precious! I absolutely love that shade of blue paint, but not with the tiles I’m afraid. I do know that if you keep it, you’ll accessorize the kitchen in a way that will totally change my mind! I bet you can sneak in the yellow tile in another way. Great technique, John, for nudging that sink into place!😂😂

The kitchen looks lovely, the dark paint colour looks perfect to me, not too matchy matchy with the tiles but perfectly compliments them. Maybe John can make a little chopping island on castors before the tools are packed away, with a stone top in case you want to do any baking? Can't wait to see the finished kitchen, John you should be so proud, you are a true craftsman.

JOHN I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE ICLOUD… It’s just the cost of some insurance for your content. Yes I started at Free then $5 and now it’s $15… I feel like a sucker! but what you can do is either buy an external hard drive or buy another laptop with limited programs but a big storage capacity… would make sense to have a second lab top as a backup for the laptop also… good to have a backup for everything.

Chris, yellow is a great colour for the sun and some flowers, especially lily’s. But in kitchens yellow is basically a non starter. It’s a law of some obscure country, somewhere. I think.

I think your kitchen is going to be pretty! The only thing it’s lacking is a small yellow tile (sorry John, I had to throw that in 🤭). On a more serious note…is it just the camera angle making that lovely oak trim on the backsplash look uncomfortably close to the flame of the cooktop? When you laid it up there I was like “nice” for a moment and then “oh, wait a minute” the next 🤔.

I must be honest I watch these vlogs through my fingers when your doing any work using tools, machinery, etc and the children are around.. and sawyer climbing up that metal railing omg my anxiety is through the roof 😮.. The wood is nice above worktop; several coats of water resistant matte clear coat would do it! Loving the dark blue paint against tiles, stone, white walls, worktop etc! A touch of yellow would be nice in plates, vase, flowers etc! All adds to the cosiness of your cottage!

OK team, this is John here, now, you all know how I like things to be just so, and how design is important to me. My answer to get a case is this: if apple wanted the iPhone to be twice the size and made of rubber, they would have built it so! 😂😂😂 Tara just piped in and said Apple do sell cases… this is quite right, however that to me is like buying a sofa and no removing the plastic for fear it might get dirty! Not getting a case!! 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️ thoughts and debate open and welcome below!!!

Tara, it wonderful ur husband can build your kitchen, but it is mostly YOUR kitchen. I see NO REASON why you can’t have it customized to your liking - ESPECIALLY when ur asking for so little-yellow would be a fantastic addition!
