Damn girl, I've lived your life and my biggest suggestion for winter is to dig a ditch for your water tanks even if the top sticks out of the ground. Line it in the ground with 2" foam board and build a little roof over the whole thing with R38 insulation in the roof. Then exhaust, a 1" pipe from your house to it with a computer fan. If it's gravity feed, build a shed around it, and wrap it all in R38..If your generator is messing with you remember to also remove the bulb under the carb and make sure the float valve isn't stuck. also, all pipes can be run through, perforated, corrugated, drain pipe and then spray can foam into the perforations. Life doesn't have to be that hard., I've got 30 years of this under my belt. Never Surrender!!!

Here in the states, they say Labor Day weekend is the “unofficial” end of summer. I agree with that statement. Even though the volume of vacationers and seasonal residents starts to dwindle, the days of warm sun and no bugs become quite enjoyable during the fall. The “official” end of summer is when you “winterize”. Thankfully, yesterday here in Maine it was 11c/52f while I detached the mower deck and attached the snowblower. Sad day every time. Here’s to a warmer and less miserable winter 🍻 Be warm and be safe, Gypsy J. Looking forward to the next one!

I winterized my rig before heading south as it was already dipping below zero and what a nightmare, took a couple weeks to get it all flushed out, it clogged the bathroom and kitchen faucets and I am pretty sure I took at least 2 showers in 1/3 antifreeze. First time every doing it so I screwed it up, none of the bypass valves are labeled so it was all trial and error

That is my biggest issue is figuring out winter water. I built the tiny house on wheels, insulated the trailer and raised the kitchen and bathroom up a foot so all the pipes will be inside and insulated so I shouldn't have an issue with freezing. In the warmer months I can have a tote outside but in the winter I plan to store water inside (hopefully) above the bathroom. It's a plan, not sure how well it will work. lol If it doesn't, I too always have the option to shower elsewhere. Supposed to have our first significant snowfall this weekend, so you did do it just in time.

Good Morning Jenna, I have just discovered something the hard way.... My hot water heater just , well we will go with crapped out. So I got the on demand finally hooked up in this trailer. And my pump was always like yours with a drag at the end when you shut it off. Once I shut the water down for the hot water heater the drag went away. (well there was a pinhole leak in the hot water tank) We (my son and I) removed the hot water tank completely, and once the on demand was hooked up the drag was back, so I went through and made sure to bleed all the lines of air and once I did that the lag is gone again. So if there is an air bubble anywhere it can cause the lag in the pump. Just something for you to ponder over the winter. PS I have no issues with my water freezing except on the super cold -30 nights, but if I keep it warm enough in here its ok. And we really are not that far apart....lol

Most RV antifreeze solutions are either ethanol or propylene glycol-based. PG will quickly poison a cat. Both lower the solution's freezing point, but propylene glycol also raises the solution's boiling point. The types of RV antifreeze used at most Camping World Service Centers have a freezing point of -50℉.

    • @evelwmn
      @evelwmn 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Propylene glycol is an organic compound that is actually added to marine anti freeze (the pink stuff) to make it less toxic. Unlike the ethylene glycol in auto antifreeze, marine antifreeze contains propylene glycol which is non-toxic. Propylene glycol also has no taste, making it less attractive to animals who might be tempted to eat it. It is further used as a solvent for food colors and flavorings so it is much safer for use around children and pets. Nonetheless, you should keep it stored up high and out of reach just to be on the safe side.

Nice work, but I'm sure you'll be super excited to reverse it all in 3 or 4 months. Believe it or not, I'm leaning towards having a very similar setup at my place in NB. I have built a small (very small) cabin on the property already, but after seeing just how small it's going to be.......ya, I'm adding a camper to the build this spring! LOL. I do have a well on the property though, so I am going to have year round water with a grey water system for it all to drain into.
Nice to see you have you're generator all back up and running 100% again, that must be a huge weight off your mind, even if you did have to blur out the "moon" when reinstalling it ;) LOL.

Probably did it but I didn’t see it is where your city water comes in if you use that make sure you take a little stick and push the check valve so some antifreeze comes out of there I forgot to do it one winter and I had to replace that check valve and I was OK on the outside but it wasn’t very friendly on the inside you are amazing person

Great video, Jenna!! Always interesting when you winterize. Have you ever had to top up the antifreeze in the pipes before spring? Does that stuff evaporate, at all? It was nice to see you sail through the routine. Well, except when you almost threw your back out again. We'd have seen you sailing through the air if the cam was on. Also, good work maintaining the 'G' rating...hehe...!!! Look forward to the next installment. #Yup

After you get antifreeze in all your lines, pull the antifreeze hose up out of the antifreeze. Crack open a faucet and the pump will suck the last bit of antifreeze out of the hose. Then you don’t leak antifreeze when you disconnect the hose.
    Stay warm.

Glad you got your generator going. I've only seen a spark plug break like that one other time many years ago. I hope your got your solar controller fix. I thought it would be a good thing to get a backup controller for my system. Fleece sheet wow I may have to check that out. I also have some backup water supply which came in handy, I had a water line break the other week.

I use a similar setup to add my antifreeze in my trailer, by using the pump. However, I leave that short hose attached all the time, since there is a valve to stop water from going into/out of it during the warmer weather season. Then, all I have to do is put the hose in the antifreeze container, open the valve and turn on the pump!

Is the skirt of your trailer heavily insulated.?? Is there a chance in the future you will build insulated maybe with closed cell foam boards for your water tank, Generator, and trailer skirt, pipes etc?? Upgrades can be a good thing for your wellbeing in all of the seasons.

Last winter was our first winter in an RV. Our neighbours were an awesome help with tips for this. They all said just skirt in the RV and u can keep using all your pipes through the winter…. I seriously thought they were nuts 🤣
But we trusted them and did it. Works great. Here in British Columbia it got to -40 and the water was still flowing… amazing.
It’s a quick 2 day job and a few hundred bucks… we just left it on 👍
Love how u have a roof built over yours I’d love to do that🙌
( I’m sure your aware you can do this lol I’m just sharing my surprise that the skirting actually works )
    Cheers!😘

Having spent much of the last year dealing with water jugs and bumming showers, I can certainly relate to how it's a hassle. Hopefully you can get more batteries from your previous source as they have done you well. With the generator fixed you should be OK for awhile. And hopefully the new charge controller goes in without a hitch.
My trailer was used when I got it, and saw a hard freeze last year. I have no idea if it was winterized before I got it, so I have never used the pump or supply piping but both gray and black tanks are good. Hard to trust 30 year old supply piping knowing what can happen with it. Since I plan to remodel everything from the bathroom wall forward, I'm going to put in all new PEX supply plumbing, insulated and routed such that it can be drained completely so I won't need antifreeze. PEX piping can withstand freezing but the elbows and fittings aren't as resilient, so I'll route the pipe with bends and no hard-to-access fittings. I'm also going to a composting toilet and a tankless water heater. I have grid power, but want to keep the 12V battery and inverter for power outages and lighting. The move to my permanent spot is done but I need to set it up, the heavy rain held off just long enough to get it parked. Much work ahead, but there's always something to be done when you live in an RV 😎

In multiple season areas, it is quite common for people to prepare for the seasonal changes. Some people enjoy the seasons changing, as each season has their own “charm” to enjoy-spring is the thaw, rain, fishing, BUGS, planting a garden and the time to be prepping for summer; summer is the heat, more bugs, wildlife running amuck, and everything is growing and early fruit/veggie plantings can be picked, and of course preparing for fall; fall can be rather brief yet beautiful with the colors of the plants changing 🍁 and of course that is the signal to prep for winter! 🥶 winter-if you haven’t prepped for winter before winter, you’ll learn quickly! It’s a constant cycle of preparation, especially anti freezing the pumps, pipes, and other things, especially the Firewood which 🪵 =s heat 🔥 =s warmth which means you’re NOT FREEZING 🥶 🧊 ❄️ ⛄️ 🧥 🥾 🧦 😃 if someone did have to , how would they, without the shower/tub etc, keep themselves clean, in general? (I would probably just heat up a big pot of water and use that. 🧼 🪣 ) Stay safe and warm! ✌️ 😊
