It is sad to see so many of the residences, motels and hotels in North WW and WW demolished and replaced with condos and townhouses. My husband and I talk about this often. It is changing the old Doo Wop feel of our area. While a lot of families, couples, friends, etc., can afford to buy or rent the condo and townhouses, also many cannot. We still need motels and hotels so all can continue to enjoy our resort and venues with respect for locals living here.TY again Joey for your videos and information. We really appreciate you and your hard work!❤

Sad. Still losing all that made wildwood unique 😢
Never stayed there but remember it well
Remembering all the unique signs and colors and neon that I grew up with in the 70’s I miss that
    Thank you for recording this.

I have decades worth of cherished memories at the Ivanhoe . It was my family’s annual spot from the early 1980s until not that many years ago . Although we still visit wildwood yearly my children’s wildwood memories won’t include the neon lit ambiance of the little beach town I grew up at . Still they’ll have their own Wildwood memories. Fare the well Ivanhoe

The Mid Century Cool vibe and culture of Wildwood is being replaced with generic boring buildings that have no unique characteristics. The clean horizontal lines of this architecture movement made Wildwood what it was. Driving into Wildwood seeing the motel architecture that is only seen in Wildwood and Miami. A significant allure to Wildwood was that it was firmly planted in mid century architecture and design. One felt a change in their state of mind, and since of adventure and calm, knowing that there was not many places in the world like Wildwood, no matter how many times and decades that families vacationed there. Passing by motels you could visually experience their rows of rooms with their colorful curtains, with full glazing and beach chairs and towels on the railings. Seeing people playing in the pools, or sunning on the decks with their palm tree's and tropical vegetation felt like an exotic vacation. That interaction in itself was part of the experience. Now well walk past lifeless buildings devoid of the unique sights and sounds that made a vacation in Wildwood special.

I have stayed there a couple (about 10) of times in the past 20 years. Ivanhoe was a nice place to stay, it was peaceful, people were not partying all night. I still don't know if I'll go back to Wildwood with all the Motels that are gone and the price it costs to stay there. As a Canadian, a trip to the Caribbean will cost me less money, I don't know, I just love to go to Wildwood every year.

Glad I have memories from Wildwood from the 60's when I was young and the late 70's when I was a teen and used to spend two weeks every summer on Juniper ave.
At least THOSE old houses are still there last time I checked.
Sad to see Old Wildwood turn into New Improved Wildwood ( yeeeesch ) !
BUT, unfortunately, "thats progress", as they say !

Anyone remember the Surf and Sand on Surf at 12th Av Stayed their with my family in the mid 1950’s . The owner was Reno and Jean Regabuto . Reno built my Grandmother’s house at 410 e 13th Av . Spent my childhood summers from the mid 50’s to 1970 . I remember that the surf went under the Boardwalk at 16th Av at high tide . My Grandmother lived there until 1972 . My mom’s favorite restaurant was Zaberes on the Boardwalk and also Angeisea . Our family lived in Greenpoint Brooklyn. We would take the Pulic Service bus from Port Authority in Manhattan to Wildwood . The bus got off The Garden State Parkway at Ocean city and stop in all the towns going South. The bus driver would let us off on the corner of 12th and Atlantic and we walk to Grandmas house. Joey you do a great job. Thank you. Subscriber since 2018 ❤️👍

This is sad. This is the 2nd place my family and I have stayed at that no longer exists. Our first place was 1501 Oceanside. We stayed there until the owners had to sell and one unfortunately passed away that fall. Next we went to Ivanhoe. Getting to be a challenge to families to find places to stay that come in large groups and want to be only a short walk from the beach and boardwalk!

Our family vacations were generally spent somewhere on the Jersey Shore from 1972 untill 2014, the last 18 years of that time in North Wildwood at the Ivanhoe. It's beyond me why they want to demolish all of these "old", but unique hotels - real pieces of Americana - just to create a few more lots, or put up more condos, which all look the same to me. They just seem kind of soulless to me, by comparison. And, there are many buildings around the country that are far older, so what's the point? Call me "sentimental", but this kind of breaks my heart. My mom and dad and I made a lot of memories staying at the Ivanhoe for a week every Summer for many years, and I guess no one can take your memories away, but it still saddens me. The hotel was kept up very nicely, and was still structurally sound, so it's just kind of puzzling why they suddenly decided to demolish it. Well, it was nice while it lasted. Thanks, Ivanhoe. Lots of us will miss you! 😢

Sadly. I heard it really is becoming harder and costly to operate beach town hotels/motels these days. Between the unpredictable weather, lack of interest and events to draw people into town, and the high costs of maintaining something only open maybe 4-6 months of the year. It just not profitable and easy anymore especially as more people only can afford 1-3 day trips these days and not the 1-2 weeks vacations people use to do.

My family, after years in WWC, decided to rent condos in Beach Haven because it was a little closer to where we live. It was a lot more work to bring everything including towels and bedding down and frankly, BH shut down after 3rd week August because the college kids went back to school and the HS kids had sports. The point of a vacation is less not more work. We are back in WWC for some years and efficiencies are a perfect solution. Some of us do not want the property commitment of buying a condo either. I understand that NWW now sees itself as a second home place without any motels. I guess that is their decision, but be prepared for it to become much like LBI, Stone Harbor, and Avalon...unaffordable and not for those who can stay only a weekend or a few days.

    • @brianhaflin9799
      @brianhaflin9799 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

Sadly, many cities and towns have dealt with the blow back of trying to restrict condo development when they end up with large sections of the town/city being vacant or not maintained because the property owners don't know what to do with the property. As long as the property owner has money to do it, they could literally just let a property sit and wait until someone gives in to let them do whatever they want.

On the accountant's books it became functionally obsolete. One can only flip a property so many times, then it runs its tax depreciation course and when its final residual value is only the land, then it is time to go. That's business.

Wildwood is like the Ouroboros, aka, the snake that tried to eat itself and died. You can't have a tourist town with no tourism and only residents. This has happened in the past, most recently, Gillian's Wonderland OCNJ. The Boardwalk isn't a self sustaining entity, and how many year round residents go on the Boardwalk and spend the same money as someone on vacation? I have a friend who bought a condo, and I asked her how often her family and her go to on the Boards, and she says, "We haven't been on the Boards since three months after I bought my condo, we just go on the beach." Listen, I hope the tourist attractions in Wildwood don't suffer, but how can they not when the accommodations just aren't there. Side note, I don't blame the town, I blame the sellers of the properties and greed. A friend tried to buy a hotel in Wildwood and they tried to negotiate the price with the seller for renovations and they wouldn't budge (the negotiation was they were allowed to be the only offer).

Another place changing or demolished. I've only been coming to Wildwood several times a year for 3 years and I love it. It's that special excited feeling when driving over the bridge on Route 147 looking to my right and seeing Wildwood in the distance, the ferris wheel, even the turtle crossing signs on 147. Little things that show me my happy place is there waiting for me. But wow, I'm surprised how many places got sold, torn down, or turned into condotels since I've been coming. And many rental costs of the new places out of reach for many of the working folks.
