If you knew the backstory behind this recording session..after frank did a few takes of the song, the producer Jimmy bowen told frank he wanted one last take. Frank, already late to a dinner, gave him the death look and did 1 last take in a pissed off tone...being this golden take we hear here.
Frank Sinatra was the most talented male performer that ever lived: He was in 69 movies. Great actor? Didn't start out as one, but he became one. Watch "The man With the Golden arm." The most dramatic role and performance you will ever see. Could he dance? Witness his performance in "Anchors Aweigh." Step for step with Gene Kelly. He looked like a dancer. Could he sing? 59 studio albums, 297 singles, 2,279 songs, 8,614recordings and performances. We miss you Frank!
I saw Sinatra live in 1984 at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. He was backed by Quincy Jones and his orchestra and his opening act was Buddy Rich, the greatest drummer of the swing Era. I was 18 years old and was likely the youngest person in the theater by a good 30 years.
Interesting the way he pronounced his words, his diction was great. He pronounced 'tune' closer to British, half way between t'yune and choon, and not the US way, toon. My Mom got me into Sinatra when I was growing up in the 1960s. Always wanted to get her to see him in concert but never did. Two years ago I went to Hoboken to see where he was born, found his fave Italian restaurant and had a meal there. Thought of my Mom, no longer with us, when in there. The jukebox is all Sinatra!
Tommy Dorsey, trombone player with his big band, taught Frank about breathing and phrasing while Frank was their male vocalist. My father, a World War 2 Vet who almost didn't make it home, used to sing this around the house when it was new, drove us kids crazy. NOW, I get it and I sing it to seniors in the retirement and nursing homes to give them a sense of power, to NOT give up. But I always sing "I'm still gonna try" instead of "roll myself self up in a big ball and die." I was music teacher, not just some hack with guitar who knows 8 chords.
I am from Tomahawk WI, I would like to see your reaction to two songs. First song love me or leave me Ruth Etting 1929. Second song Mood Indigo Duke Ellington 1930. And I love Frank Sinatra.
CBS recorded Sinatra singing live in the studio for a small audience of friends and other people to produce a more intimate setting. The year was 1965, and the song was IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR. You will absolutely love it. Guaranteed. I think Frank loosened up on his vocals a great deal in the 196o's, to stay relevant and update his style. Where the earlier material was driven by the times of the big band era and the 194o' and 5o's. One of my all-time favorites from Frank's illustrious catalog is (I'VE GOT YOU) UNDER MY SKIN. Greetings from Kentucky.
You should checkout his studio film doing Very Good Year with life studio orchestra... fascinating to actually see a master at work... hat on the mic stand and cigarette in hand....
Love Frank i’ve been a fan since i was a little kid i was singing and playing him all the time i still do it people looked at me like how the hell does this kid know Frankie they still do but i’m used to it by now i’m 20 years old today but i played this everyday before School because i was the outcast the freak and so on and when i was in New York in my early teens New York New York was playing in my head on loop
Unforgettable is a very memorable song from Nat King Cole. Either Frank Sinatra covered it, or Maggie mistakenly attributed it to him. I've made the same mistake before, giving credit to one artist for another artist's song for years before I was finally corrected.
Great song and vocal, but there are so many far superior vocals by FAS to hear. You are Love is almost operatic in nature and perhaps his best live vocal. River Stay Away from the Door has Frank nailing the high notes. Night and Day (57 version) is utterly brilliant! I Have Dreamed from King and I, off Concert Sinatra is breathtaking! Long Last Love (the one off Swinging Affair) is near perfection. To Love and be Loved has a really big finish and is a top 5-10 Sinatra song for me. The mid 60s were great, but 1954-1962 is Sinatra in his absolute vocal prime.
Frank was a staple in my house 🏡 growing up. This song and My Way are my faves . He made some great movies too. You should check out Von Ryan's Express. FANTASTIC movie 🎥.
Glad to hear you've been very Bizet...(showing myself out now.) Back briefly: If you want SASSY, someone needs to sponsor High Hopes, and if you want the melodius crooner, you need to go back to the bobby soxer years. You may even want to check out his acting chops in the Manchurian Candidate, or the Man with the Golden Arm. He even voiced a private eye during the golden age of radio. Rocky Fortune was the PI
I think you’re 22 because you’re about 1/3 of my age so our love is not too creepy. ;-) Frank was also friends with many of the black entertainers and he would refuse to play or attend restaurants if they refused to allow them to eat in the restaurant or stay in the hotel.
Maybe this is just me, but reading the lyrics of a song before listening to it, doesn’t it take something out of the experience? It’s like reading the script before seeing the movie. I hate to use the word “product” cause it sounds like turning art into capitalism, but isn’t the point of presenting the final product that people experience the lyrics with the music with the production? You wanna get the whole package at once I reckon.

You will love his professing his love for his woman on the song (IVE GOT YOU) UNDER MY SKIN. Listen and love it.
For most of his career, Frank was the ultimate cool guy. The clothes, the lifestyle, the attitude, the babes -- and above all else the talent.
When I turned 39, I started counting backwards. In 5 years I will perform a disappearing act.
"when I was 39, it was a very good year. I started going back in time, and got to drink, a lot more beer...."

That's fantastic!
@@MikePhillips-pl6ov It was a great concert. Frank was in fine voice considering he was 68/69 at the time.
Oops 😳 did I say fashionably late? I meant fashionably GREAT... Especially rockin cowboy boots in a Carmen performance.🤭
Belated Happy Birthday Maggie

I'm still only 32, but I told my mom I want the song my way to be the song that's played at my funeral.
young people think this song is so cool!! 'that's frank'!!!
You’d probably have better luck if you told your children. There’s a good chance that your mother will leave before you do.
@@TranslateToEnglish 'that's death'!!!
@@normankennith7919 well you never know what words youtube will allow today. It keeps changing.
@@TranslateToEnglishwell you know what they say, the words you used in april, are shot down in may!!

David Lee Roth did a cover of this song - he NAILED it !!

He is a professor in phrasing of a song.
I have been listening to Frank since I was a teenager in the sixties. This song was one of many top 40 hits he had .

I Peter Pann'd it at 29. Recently had my 30th annual 29th birthday.
29 is the greatest age to be, not 18 as many seem to say! Imo.
no one better in his genre.
Having three degrees from Juliard at 22 is impressive.
9:50 for those who want to get to the reaction

Grew up in the 60s. We listened to opera to the Who. But Jazz was the main thing. Have you done Ella yet?

Maggie. Regarding Frank Sinatra play his song I believe it's called it was a very Good Year Harry
I’ve always thought Englebert Humperdinck was Frank Sinatra with range.😂😂😉
check out frank singing 'old man river' live n 1968!! sensational!!!
Looks great 👍👍👍👍
A great Sinatra movie is Pal Joey.
One of Frank's bigger Sixties hits.
Francis Albert Sinatra from Hoboken NJ.
Your cast party seems to have been playing Nat King Cole, not Sinatra. Both songs you mentioned are Cole standards.
ชอบมากครับ😊
That's what all the people say.
You must listen to the cover by Shawn James.
Listen to Songs for Swinging Lovers Album, you'll live
Now you have to do a Dean Martin song.

Frank and Elvis were the two most important male entertainers of the twentieth century. They were paired on TV, briefly. Sinatra did NOT like rock.
Nice face, I need help with my brows. Ughh.
good way to kill a great song....blabbering over it and stoppng it all the time
He was always consistently offbeat.
