How to fix crashed Mavic Mini
Mavic Mini Arm Repair
Awesome video, exactly the step by step process I was looking for to repair mine. Thank you!!
Hey man! Thank you for this! I highly recommend the embedded video in the comments about the spring. Just fixed my drone with the help of this video.
Thanks for the video! I just successfully completed an arm replacement and I watched your video every step of the way.
That's awesome Richard great job!
Who else just crashed their drone into a tree? 😂😂😂
😬
I did and im scareed to try and fix it
@@rodneyrocha3312 I got another one through amazon. They replaced mine for free in a week. I told them I received it broken 😂
Don't be afraid Rodney. Just be patient and go slow. You can do it!
@@JoeDoesStuff i just dont wanna take it apart and it not get put back together i love to fly Dji drones and i cant afford to buy another one right now!! How much would u charge to repair the arm like on this video
Thanks Joe! From watching this video I was able to get my Mini repaired and back in the air.
Huge help, thank you so much.
That's great to hear Kale! Glad I can help.
this video helped me save tons of money, hope you get the best in life!
Many thanks for taking so much trouble, excellent instruction and camera work. Really appreciate it. 🙏🏼
I did😩. Thank you for this video. It was super helpful and I think I have mine going again thanks to you, cheers 👍
this is the best video i've seen so far. Well shot and slowly done very understandable !
Thank you!
Thanks a lot Antoine! I really appreciate that 😊
@@JoeDoesStuff succesfully replaced its arm tonight!
I had a little bit of trouble with the soldering, but it worked out very well!
thx again!
Good to hear man!
Did not utter a bunch of jibberish. Just got right into the repair. Best repair video I’ve ever seen.
Dude. Thank you so much! Thanks for kind words and for watching!
Thanks mate, just repaired broken arm thanks to this video!
That’s great Peter! I love hearing that. And thank you for taking the time to comment!
Thanks for the video. Just did the same thing with mine. Was going to order a new one but now I have the confidence to fix the one I have. Love that drone man. Thanks again and please make more videos I have a feeling I'm gonna need them.
Thanks man! I have more the fix on the drone before it's flyable again. I'll make sure to post them when I do. Glad I was able to help!
@@JoeDoesStuff Hey, my dad recently just broke the leg on his drone as well, any recommendations for the solder kit? where do we pick that up and is it expensive.. it doesn't seem too complicated but I have never solder anything before which has me worried about being able to replace.. we basically may just try to super glue but are worried it will just break again.
Super glue won't work. Yes it will break again. But more importantly, it won't get a good connection to transfer power. I have a soldering in the video description. It's inexpensive and does the job. Definitely solder it please!
Very helpful. Looking to buy used M2 with broke arm housing. I feel I can handle it after watching your video
great job! I just broke the rear arm of my mini.. thanks for the excellent video!
No prob Bin Bin! Glad I could help. And thank you for the kind words!
Wet your solder tip with fresh solder when desoldering will make it go a lot smoother
Love the vid, helped me to be comfortable in rebuilding a broken arm. Seems the tricky part is repositioning the spring in the arm, rather than use any tools , just place the spring in the old arm, twist the top hinge (ie the bracket with the screw holes) , no risk of damaging the spring as I have seen else where.
Thanks Sean! And great idea with the hinge. I over thought that lol.
Thanks for the tip!
Excellent instructional video - well filmed and sequence of repair - Many thanks for making the video.
Thanks a bunch Jack 😊
Thanks for this video man i just ordered my new front right arm and will be following this video! Edit: I didn't actually crash my drone my dog jumped 5 foot and bit it out the bloody sky :D
Lol sorry for your luck man, but that's an awesome story!
I have not broken my mini but I will be back here if I do. Thanks for your video.
No problem! I'll have more drone repair videos soon as well! 😁👍
Hiya mate, thank you for this video, really good job and good detail. I just repaired one of my arms on a Mavic Mini. When I got it outside to try it, it took off but it didn't seem to stay stable, as in it wouldn't stay in one spot and kept slowly leaning to the right (it was the front right I repaired), is that a thing. I haven't had the chance to take it for a proper flight yet.
I have felt this myself. 2 front arms all in one crash. Ordered parts and had my mini fixed in a couple days. Now with the old ones I’m going to look into reinforcing these areas. Because they all break in practically the same place. There’s foam glued into place inside the arm to hide /protect wires. Add stability without increasing weight. Fortunately the mini can handle a few extra grams of reinforcement per arm without really sacrificing performance or flight time.
Yeah maybe some thin metal C-channel would work? That's a great idea reinforcing the arms!
Where do you order the new arms? Thx
@@CrimeanHorseArcher I just ordered from Amazon. Was skeptical but proven wrong
Amazon
I was too lol. But they seem oem.
Thank you for the video. Helped me a lot.
Thanks for this video!! Now I gotta fix the right arm on mine. 😁
Sounds great! Thanks for watching 😁
Where did you buy the Arm?
Amazon. Link in the description.
Good job and thank you for taking time out of your day to help others. I've heard the toughest part was getting the black oval piece with the pin in the center in to the arm. Is there any specail angle or trick to getting it seated correctly.
Thanks Steve! Yeah it can be tricky. I actually made a video about it that might help also.
th-cam.com/video/zAiE-zVIuYM/w-d-xo.html
Hi Steve, you may try to insert that black oval piece in incorrect position, then try to open / close drone arm. Somewhere in the middle of open / closed state that part fits perfectly, so you will be able to insert it with your fingertips.
Dude. You are a life savor!
Lol thanks!
got mine done thanks to this video. thank you.
Awesome. Thanks for the comment Rick. Glad I could help 😁
Yeh thanks for the vid and wicked tune on background 😎🤘🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thanks!!! 😁
is it dificult to switch the motor and cabels i only have buy the arm without the engine and cables?
Will you be doing one on the gimbal? Seems to be a weak spot :) first flight today , well, maybe LOL
I actually filmed replacing the gimbal! I haven't edited it yet.
Note to Self... Dab tools come in handy when taking the Mini 2 apart.
So working on replacing my right front arm so far so good out the hinge on but the arm keeps springing back to the middle no matter if I close it all the way or open it all the way it springs to the middle any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks Joe! Much appreciated!
No problem 😁👍
Thank you! This video helped me very much!!
thanks a lot for the vid. question- what temp did you have your soldering iron set to?
It's a cheap soldering iron. So I had it turned all the way up. Not really sure what the temp was tho.
I crashed My Drone on a tree on First day and Broken same ilke yours. Thank u for video
Seems to be a common thing we do lol
Did you ever get it to fly again? I was looking for your part 2 of the video.
I wasn’t able to. I got the camera working where I could move it and record, but there was water damage on the board 😕
Can you do this without soldering?
Hey Joe.....thanks for your video! Just about to replace the arm on my MM. When it comes time to pop off the top and bottom covers, is there any more specific technique for prying off the covers? I'm afraid to break the clips. Is it just as easy as placing the flat head screw driver in and twisting it to pry apart? Or do you push in on the covers plastic to undo a clip? Thanks in advance!!
Honestly there's not much to it. Any pressure at all pretty much disconnect them. Just take your time. I broke quite a few on mine but it still goes back together nicely and doesn't come loose at all.
@@JoeDoesStuff Thanks for your post and help.....got er done! Back in the air...now to wait for the -27 C temps to increase in northern British Columbia!!
Woah no way. I'm a warm weather guy lol.
Are all the screws the same size? Or are they specific to the place they come out of?
If my memory serves me correctly, the screws were all the same. I do recommend tho to lay the screws out the way you removed them and putting them back in the same place. I used to talk about this more in previous videos.
I have further complicated this process by shredding one of the first 4 screws in the video (wrong sized tool)… any advice on getting it out? Nothing is working
It’s just plastic, so last resort is to drill it out. 😬
Thank you Joe. Can you recommend a supplier for ordering new arms?
Amazon
Sorry Sinan I never got a notification for your comment. I have links in the description for each arm.
@@JoeDoesStuff you are great. Thank you very much friend.
Thank you for the video. Where can i buy arms from.
I have links to the arms in the description. They are affiliate links. So if you buy thank you much! 😁
Awesome video!
I know this is old but, is there a way i can still use the old motors and antenna attached to the arm? Would rather order a spare arm shell and reuse the old motor and antenna, can I uninstall and reinstall the old ones to the new arm shell? Thanks
Possibly. But I couldn’t find just arm shells for sale.
At 9:07 when your putting that wire back on you don’t need to sotter it on?
Thank you so much ❤️
looks like I will be taping the arm back together
Fantastic!
Thanks man! Really helped me out!!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
It wasn't my fault... My dog did it. Ya actually it was my fault. Thanks for the video. It will definitely come in handy when my new right arm gets here!
Gotta watch those dogs man lol
Where is the best place to order replacement parts? Got a snapped arm and smashed up camera. Thinking its not worth fixing given the cost of the mini 1 now.
Amazon has been just fine for me. I’ve replaced about 5 arms on others Mavics.
Where can I get the parts? I broke the foot where the antenna is.
Thanks for the video!!
You're more than welcome!
@@JoeDoesStuff I grabbed the tool set and soldering iron. Thanks for the info!! Hopefully you set it up to get some kick back!!
Yes I did 😁 thank you again! Let me know if you have any questions.
Gostei da troca, muito bom falo do Brazil 👍🤝
I crashed my drone Friday ordered the parts and a soldering iron they both come tomorrow. I have never soldered before I am very scared to break my drone. Do you have any tips?
It's difficult to break so don't worry. Get a little solder on the wire first. Then heat it to the board.
@@JoeDoesStuff just fixed the arm now it won’t let me fly it says power system hardware error what do I do
Did it power up properly before the repair? That sounds like a damaged ESC board. Is any of the solder touching each other on the 3 wires to the arm? If so you will need to clean up the solder. Here is the board. It's not as expensive as it sounds. amzn.to/3zljSD0
@@JoeDoesStuff okay I fixed it one of the cords wasn’t soldered but now when I try to fly it, it will tilt over and won’t fly
What do you mean tilt over? It flips over on takeoff? You might have the propellers on wrong. They have to go on a specific way.
Okay, so i fuckedup the connector at 3:09. I tried to fix it by bending it back in place and it worked for a second. After repairing the arm I tried to fly and it worked. After flying I noticed the cable was not connected anymore. Even though it was not connected, it still fully functioned without a problem. Can you maybe tell me what this cable does, because it works like a charm without it…
is this the same process on the mini 2?
I'm going to guess it's pretty similar. I haven't taken a mini 2 apart yet tho so I can't confirm.
thanks a lot mate !!!
Hey, I was wondering where to send my drone to get it fixed, do you do it? I have the exact same issue with mine but don’t have tools to fix it.
You have a broken arm?
@@JoeDoesStuff yes sir.
@@JoeDoesStuff I was wondering if I sent it to you you could do it? I’ll pay
For sure man. Email me joeandkriscox@gmail.com
@@jeremiahswinderman1056 I've got the same broken arm but have the replacement and we'll I'm emailing you b4 I try it! Is that okay?
I have a question. I started to repair the right arm, got the arm in place but havent soldered the wires yet. I have the front 2 motors disconnected still. I wanted to power up the drone to make sure it powered up, but nothing happens. Do the motors have to be connected/soldered for the drone to even power up? Just want to know if i did something else, like disconnected something by mistake. The drone has no power whatsoever. Please help! Thanks in advance
It would still power on without the motors connected. Sounds like you've disconnected something else. Does it show any lights when you press the power button? If not then it has to do with either the battery, battery connection, or power button. Just make sure everything has a solid connection.
Good job!
Thanks! 😊
Where can I purchase the tool kit you used?
I have all tools and parts in the description if you need anything else. Here’s the tool kit.
amzn.to/2PYFaox
Thank you, sir.
No prob!
Good job, but as alternative, Rather than the complication risk of desoldering and soldering it to the board, I am considering cutting the wires and soldering the new arm wires together to the original wires.?
That way you have the factory solder at the board.
The method to do this is mesh wires together, heat them hot, touch the solder to the heated wires it should suck up the solder! and completely encapsulate the two wires together.
Then tape.
This method, you do not have to worry about making a mistake soldering on the board which is more complicated for advanced solder skills. And you do not need to purchase a small pinpoint solder or desoldering tool.
you can use a larger, older solder iron. Make sure to use proper solder.
Sounds like a plan. But boards are more resilient than people think. Other than soldering to the wrong point, you couldn’t really hurt the board. I used just a regular tip on a cheap soldering iron from Walmart. Thanks for the alternative idea and comment!
Wonder if the Mavic mini and mini SE arms are interchangeable?
Maybe the mini 2. They upgraded the motors in the mini 2. I think the SE uses the same motors. But don’t quote me on that.
@@JoeDoesStuff Yeah you're right.Thanks
I have 4 mini’s. Changing arm now but spring loaded like and I feel arm is one square off??? Normal??
Sorry I don't quite understand your issue. But I've gotten a lot of questions about the spring this week. So I'm going to make a video about it this weekend. Hopefully that will help.
nice job
Thanks man
I just replaced both front arms, but how do reset the spring clips so I can open it to fly?
You have to use pliers to turn. You won't be able to turn them by hand. Turn them back and forth and make sure you have them in correctly. Should be good to go then.
I can’t unscrew the top shell. 😢 the screws are now stripped
Hey joe this was a great video I managed to fix my drone. A few days later though I crashed it again and the gimbal stopped working. I opened it up and the flex cable/ribbon broke. This is really hard to fix and I have no clue how to do it. I tried to look for videos but I couldn’t find any. It would be great if you can make one about it. Thank you!
I actually made one awhile back. But my drone was water damaged so it didn't work afterwards. I didn't think anyone would like since I couldn't show it working once I was done. I'll find the footage and post it for ya 😁👍
Joe Does Stuff Thank you so much for responding so fast I appreciate it. Let me know when you can post that video and also where can I get the part?
You got it👍
@@JoeDoesStuff Hey it’s me on another account. Are you still gonna post it? Let me know cause I really wanna fix it soon. Thanks!
I am, but it's raw footage so I have to edit it.
What if we swapped the mavic mini 2 arms on the original mini ?? Will the mavic mini have more stability due to the powerful ESCs ?? This question is just stuck in mind since when the mini 2 was launched. Please reply !!!! 🙏🏼
I could imagine not much would change. The computer controls everything so it would still use the same parameters it was set to use. But I could definitely be wrong. I kinda want to know now lol.
I have seen some TH-camrs custom adjusting the parameters through computers. And as most of the TH-camrs who have reviewed the mini 2, has claimed that it has more rigid arms than the older mini. So I guess changing the arms with the mini 2's arms and adjusting the parameters would make it a better mavic mini.
I'm also curious about what if we could improve the picture quality of the older mini by replacing the whole camera setup from the mini 2. Or maybe the old camera setup could somehow be programmed to support 4k recording and also capture DNG format and also add custom color profiles??!
Lol, that curiosity of mine is enough to make someone super confused 😂
Lol that's above my knowledge. But I still wanna know!
@@JoeDoesStuff haha, I would love if you really make a video on that. Really hoping for someone to do that. 😌
I'll look into it. But programming isn't something I know about.
I need the little thing you popped out at 4:51 Does it have a name? :(
Do you mean the spring hinge for the arm?
Here the spring hinge of that's what you need.
amzn.to/3rKR8QH
The ONLY thing that I would do differently (and I've gotta replace my right front arm - motor dead), is to "tin" the 3 wires before installation.
I agree with that. Soldering isn’t a strong skill of mine. Tinning would probably have made the job easier.
I literally spent a $150 to get my mini se repaired. I wish I would have ran into this video weeks ago.
any python calibration needed after the fix?
I didn't need to calibrate after. I did have to figure out which way the propellers went lol. I forgot they have to turn a certain way.
From where should I buy those legs .. genuine legs
The legs in the description are exact same. They even have the same stamps on them. And the front one says Mavic mini on it.
is there one more step to reset the motor ?
I'm not sure what you mean. Can you explain what problem you're having?
@@JoeDoesStuff No problems, still waiting delivery but was watching repair videos and someone mentioned if you replace a motor you have to reset/calibrate it?
Yeah you have to calibrate the drone. The thing the app says where you rotate it around... But that's all. There's no way to reset the motor. Just make sure you put the propellers on the correct side. That way they are turning and pushing air downward. Other than that you're good to go.
@@JoeDoesStuff cool thank you getting excited for thursday LOL
Lol awesome man. Let me know if you have any more questions 👍
I just crashed my drone into a tree (f). But in my case it just broke the plastic cover. Does anyone know if I can just replace that? The wiring and motor are OK. Its just the broken arm that now is floppy
That's a broken arm. Rarely does the motor or wiring get messed up. You have to replace the arm.
finally replaced the front arm on my Mini, followed all the steps, felt great about it afterwards....however, I went to test it out today, and when I turned on the drone, the LED flashed from Green-Yellow-Red, then stayed at solid Red. Which I'm reading is a 'critical error' light. Only thing I can think is that perhaps I didn't solder the wires to the circuit board 100% perfectly/sufficiently. Or maybe its a firmware issue, having not updated it in a few months? Anyone else have this issue after installing the replacement?
Hey joe can i send you my drone and i pay you to repair?
Thanks for the video, it made me decide not to tackle it myself lol.
Awesome Paul! Let me know how it goes.
@@JoeDoesStuff my motor is stiffer than it should be and doesn't turn upon startup.
Does it move at all? Does it feel stiffer when you manually turn it? It could be a bad solder connection, a crossed wire, or a faulty motor. If it's not turning manually then probably a faulty motor.
@@JoeDoesStuff it turns, but clearly restricted, not as easily as the other 3
I would recommend returning it for another. Amazon will accept it. I've had to return one in the past.
what song is this?
A Tune From Yesterday by Till
Music title?
So im repairing the drone right now and I put on the leg and then the thing to make it hold and unfold but when I try to fold it it keeps going back to its place where I put on the new leg what do I do?
Sounds like you might have the spring put in backwards.
@@JoeDoesStuff I tried it both ways still the same result
@@alanmtz6293 when you don't have it installed, does it rotate and stay?
@@JoeDoesStuff no it doesn’t rotate it’s very hard for it to rotate
Yeah I had to use pliers to rotate. You might need to use a pair of pliers to rotate it. Sounds like it might just be positioned wrong.
My arm won’t stay in close position after I put the pin in
The pin is mostly likely installed turned the wrong way.
Thanks man I just removed following your video, new arm comes tomorrow
Awesome! Make sure you install the hinge correctly. It can be a real pain.
It's workiiiing, thanks again bro and for the other video explaining the hinge 😎
No problem brother. Glad I could help!
another tree victim here. I found out why when I was flying my plane low I didn't spend more than fleeting places at ground. Yea you'd think Id know better with this thing. So at 8:30 you are pushing on one of those ugly tiny clips. I have been fixing my own cars, boats plane forever and know most of the tricks in the big world this miniature beast #@^%% is giving me fits. Its just the tiniest bit out of being concentric if you look at it like a peep sight but I can't for the life of me get that tiny clip to snap down. Wires a tad on shot side, camera module doesn't like to sit still , no way to secure well act . What is the secret of this awful little push clip. Also what is that plastic tool you are pushing on it with? Mines been dead a couple years now
Got a drone and the very next day it hit a twig and spiraled out of control
Max power load error message... and here I am
Sucks man. I've heard others get that same error. Luckily mine didn't in the short lifespan it had before I drowned it 🤣
@@JoeDoesStuff oh no!! Yeah I think I've only used it about 5 times. Really sucks to see it fully broken already.
I know what you mean. Maybe one day I can afford the Air 2 for that obsticle avoidance.
💥 I just crashed into a tree and baaaaam…. Here I am. 😩
Now my Mini won't start up at all...
Oh nooooo. Just order the arm. Swap out the motor, sensor, and wiring. WTW was I thinking. 😡 Order just as he did. It'll save you some grief.
Had to throw a football to get it down from a tree
I sent you an email about me paying you to possibly fix my broken front right arm
Stripped out every screw with the supplied screw driver, then proceeded to try to pry it apart. No luck...so I tossed the shit product in the trash after I smashed it. I fly proper drones that I build myself, and have zero patience for these shit Phillips heads. Soldering is no issue, of course, but I was left with something I had no way to repair. Absolutely junk
Soldering skills No good…
Nothing a little super glue cant fix i just crashed my drone yesterday and fixed it with gorilla glue and she flys like nothing ever happened 🤣
Lol nice!
@joedoesstuff
same I attached a dropper system and stupidly I put an elastic band on it and court in the blade and fell from 30meters😰😭🫥😬
