That’s an admirably objective assessment, thanks. I’m going to throw in some shamelessly subjective thoughts: -I’m have an SPB143, and I really like the sunburst silver dial and quiet, monochrome look of the watch. -I’m bored with the BB58, every man and his dog has one, and you can’t escape them on Instagram & other watch media. -I’m fed up with the snowflake hand, can’t bear to look at it any more, it’s got to the point where I just scroll straight past any Tudors that have it. -I don’t like the Tudor’s slab-sided case -a dive watch with polished case sides just doesn’t look right, it’s an attempt to be diver & desk-diver simultaneously and fails. So I’ll be enjoying my Seiko…
@muirmackean6770 quite a number of people would concur with your subjective thoughts, myself included. But just because every man has one doesn't make the BB58 a bad watch.
Seems like Tudor’s design language just isn’t for you. Omega dive watches are like that for me. That’s totally fine but it doesn’t make the 58 a bad watch. It’s on every enthusiasts wrist but in the real world it’s not crazy in your face. The Submariner is that for me. I see them everywhere and that has made that watch boring.
The winding resistance of the BB is phenomenal. I love the texture of the bezel. The sweep of the second hand is also amazing on the BB. Seiko has brilliant watches however for me that is what you get when you spend more money on something like the tudor
For spec and price wise, the Seiko SLA043j1 or the SJE093j1 are the watches you should be comparing the Tudor to. But like you said comparing the SPB143j1 to the tudor just shows how much higher the seiko is punching above its weight. In that sense for me the Seiko SPB143j1 wins.
Ok let me try understand this for a second. With regards to movememt they are both losing 1sec pd, they both have 70hr power reserve and the only difference is the beats... But because of that its a wash for the Tudor? Add to that the fact that you're comparing the Seiko to the Tudor even though the price is 3 or 4 times the Seiko and youre still saying the Tudor is better value for money? Makes no sense
Good comparison, a 1k watch vs a 3.5k watch shows Seiko truly is a good buy. People complain, whatever. In my opinion however, the Tudor to be fair would be pit against the SJE101 or SLA075. Or the bigger MM300 or SLA051. In those comparisons you will see what true dial and hand finishing looks like, zaratsu polishing and a forged movement. Would be a good comparison
@Not-a-bot222 Yes, for the right price the Seiko is a really good buy. I would love to do a comparison with the SLA, but I don't know anyone who would lend me one for a review.
I have both. Love them both. Neither is better.if they were the same price, obviously the Tudor wins on quality. But the SPB143 is a badass looking watch.
@@WatchFocus8800 Ah,I see. The new sje093 is a good candidate if you can get a hold of it. I had the spb143 with the 6r35 and the movement was my biggest grievance. Sold it and upgraded to the sla065 with the 8L35, and the movement is of another world compared to the 6r.
The new range of divers from Seiko, with date window @ 0430, stands a better change, certainly the limited timepiece SPB455J1. Fact is that there still is a massive tier gap of course and that gives admiration for what Seiko is able to deliver.
As a serious collector with all diving editions of both vendors and others, I think that Seiko is not a match for its Swiss counterpart as far as class and elegance. However, do not underestimate the accuracy of Seiko. Also, it takes a beating without breaking your heart.
The breitling chronomat cult sits between these two in price, similar dial to the 143 but blew the 143 out of the water for me when i had them together.
I think my Seiko would have been perfect if it wasn’t for the terrible accuracy. I’m jealous of your numbers. It’s the reason I sold it. Even the service center couldn’t regulate it further than -30.
Aesthetics are one thing, but the core of a watch is it's ability to keep time. My 143 is a joke compared to my tutor. The 6r movements are not accurate. They don't need to be COSC level, but they should be better than they are for the price. Seiko is no longer the value proposition they once were.
Seriously? This is not an even comparison. You are comparing 1k level vs over 5k quality? Surely you cant compare toyota cars against their lexus counterparts? You have to compare with Seiko higher end like SLA or even Grand Seiko.
I have a spb147. Beautiful watch let down by a dreadful movement. At this price a watch not only should look good, in the eye of the beholder, but also keep good time. Otherwise It is merely a piece of jewellery. The 6r35 quality is inconsistent. Some are good and some are crap, much like seiko’s service centres.
I used to like Seikos but since they started to make homages of their own watches (the FakeKX line) i lost interest. Most Seikos cost twice what they should.
It's an incorrect comparison, get Seiko of similar pricing or model for that specific target segment (e.g. Prospex LX, Grand Seiko). Secondly, the Tudor Pelagos not the Black Bay should be compared to this Seiko because the Seiko is an actual functional Tool Watch made for diving with larger dimensions to enhance readability under water and to accommodate being worn over/with a wet suit. The Seiko 62MAS re-interpretation was not built as a Tool Watch with dress watch dimensions.
Tried Seiko SPB143 recently, it’s a beautiful watch but it feels does not belong on my wrist. Will buy Citizen pro master diver automatic instead, titanium but cheaper and better design
SPB453 You were saying something about size? And imagine a watch that's 3 times the price may have better finishing and better movement. Maybe next you can compare a 40k car with a 120k car. Nerds and their jewellery.
You are comparing a 1200 dollar watch to a 4000+ dollar one, that's why the later one is better. Go get a 1926 and compare it to the GS see if your opinion still hold up.
I would not even compare a Grand Seiko to Tudor. European watches will always be the standard; same with cars. The Asian manufacturers in Japan & China are good at copying designs, but not innovating.
The fact we are comparing this Seiko with a Tudor 4 times the price is very telling of how great this watch is.
Means absolutely nothing.
@@maitrehg Means absolutely everything

To give the Seiko a fair shot, compare the Tudor to the SLA043
This, Peter Kotsa has already done this and.... The SLA wins. Mind you, the Adamascus from Wise beat the SLA when they went up against one another...
Or SJE093

All subjective.
So, the SPB143 at a fraction of the price, is definitely better.
Wait, you can get the 62 MAS for $500 and you think the Tudor is the better value? That math doesn’t math
The winding resistance of the BB is phenomenal. I love the texture of the bezel. The sweep of the second hand is also amazing on the BB. Seiko has brilliant watches however for me that is what you get when you spend more money on something like the tudor

Excellent episode. I own and love the Tudor. It is a superb watch, one of my favorites in my collection. Subscribed :)
Nice video!
Whats the olive nato you are using on the seiko?
The links in the description don‘t work for me :/
@petepan7822 You'll find it at watchgecko's website. It's the ribbed nato.
Thanks!
0:48 what is the brand of the NATO strap?
Hallo!! Have you seen the SPB453 in person Yet?
I own both, totally agree with the reviewer. Largest drawback of the SPB143 is the bracelet which is a major letdown
The movement is even worst than the bracelet.
Totally agree I also have both and the bracelet really lets the SPB143 down, I’ve found the movement ok tho👌
The bracelet looks better than the tudors
@@coffeeboyclips1973 The Tudor bracelet costs almost the same as the whole Seiko watch! Best bracelets in the game with Rolex and Monta.
