I've got a hilux 2kd-ftv here in the Uk. 2014 model on 250000 km. dpf included!! Thanks to your videos I'm learning loads. Done the bfe recently, new clutch, prop bearings. Going to be doing driveshafts, wheel bearings, 7mm egr plate and clean, 5th injector and dpf clean/reset soon. Now after this video I'm already thinking injector inspection soon after that. Thank you so much for your videos, love the waffling, keep up the good work

My 2015 1GD had its dpf and timing chain recently replaced free of cost at Toyota. I had close to 9 years and 180k of trouble free driving prior to that and i hope to get a lot more out of this engine. I love the smoothness and quietness over my previous 1kd 120 for daily driving. No regrets getting the 150 with this engine. Remember when the 1kd was launched people criticised the engine for being potentially unreliable because it didnt have a proven track record, 20 years later and its the most reliable engine and apparently more reliable than the 1gd. All engines have teething problems, its how the manufacturer deals with them that counts, and so far, Toyota have been great.

Bloody terrific Anth, have been running this around in my old head for a good few years now. The old 1kd is climbing fast towards the 400,000 now with lots of caravan towing and still going beautiful 😍. My thoughts are spending another $90 K on the 150. Maybe put $10/15 K back into my beast and keep on keeping on. Just keep up the maintenance and she will keep going. Thanks again mate. Well explained video. Mine now 368,000kms. Just done a 9,500km trip thru WA from near Darwin. Cheers Bill. 👍🍺😍

In Latin America the 1GD has proven to be a very reliable engine, however in most of the countries we've got the euro 4 spec. I guess all the problems of the 1GD are associated with the euro 5/6 spec. It's like the 1KD, we got the euro 2 spec for a lot of years without trouble, in the 2018 arrived the euro 4 spec and started the issues. For me, the 1KZ it's with no doubt the most reliable of the 3.

I greatly appreciate how much info you give to us on these vehicles, many of us rely on our trucks for remote travel and you didn't have to share this with us, but you chose to and it's invaluable. I know where I'll be ordering my injectors from. Cheers, safe travels.

My new dpf and 5th injector at 7yrs and 80,000k was free - class action and all covered for original owners or 10 years. I’m very happy with my Toyota dealer - they have never done wrong by me and I was three years out of warranty and service elsewhere. Got a good dealer👍oh, and the old dpf never caused any issues - occ puff of smoke with a regen every so often…

I can’t agree at all. I had a ‘06 Hilux & ‘12 Hilux with 1kd’s, followed by a ’16 Hilux and ‘22 Hilux with 1GD’s. I also had a 150 Prado with a 1kd. The 1GD goes way better. Especially the updated ’20 onwards version. Good on you for making the videos but my experience with the performance of these motors is way different to yours.

Question what if you have 1kd prado and install 1GD engine and strip it of all dpf and other gizmos coz the old prado didnt have it. That way you get more power etc but less issues

Gee all I want is a perfect engine. That is, one I can drive responsibly, care for, do all the maintenance and drive for 500,000 - 600,000 km and I'll be happy to swap out the entire engine. Seems the 1GD (2017) might not go the distance. But I love the vehicle. And when it's freshly polished, there simply is no better looking 4WD - except the MY2018+ front end. But I don't like the interior or tail lights. The retro 250 was initially retro appealing, but the appeal is fading fast and they're not even here yet. Will see. The 300 has some appeal, but, it's bigger than I really need. The 150 is a great all-rounder! So, I think I might just keep the 1GD. Look after it, do my best, and take what comes, and dig deep if I have to. And besides, it might still be going when I'm to old to drive?? But the thing about the future is, no one knows what's around the corner and down the track. Hybrid 350? Thank you for the video Anthony!

So in short, I got a 2018 Prado and your opinion is don't keep it too long? And for someone who would like to tow something in the future, doesn't seem like there is a Toyota worth getting that is less than 100k. I was hoping to hear something positive about the newer engines but don't think you had much to share besides the newer remap which doesn't apply to my model. 😅

Certainly wont keep my 1GD past 10 or probably 5 to 7 years.
Easy to flip into another, i will be definetly be sick of it by then and ready for a change. Very happy with my 1GD for now, especially power and torque, the fix price service plan is very cheap even getting a few extras done like secondary filter changes.

On the 1gd, when going downhill at about 100kmh, even if you slightly brakes it will double or even triple downshift putting it at 4k rpms just to slow the car down a bit
This is the most annoying thing ever
Is there any way to change this in a new Hilux?

No issues, preety reliable (euro 4 spec). I guess the absence of all the euro 5/6 technology has something to do with it. And the mainteinance factor, we don't use the thinner oil grade that is required for DPFs, the dealer recommends 10W30, maybe this contributes.
