    Watching you solder back on the HDMI port, it's sorcery! I don't know how the science/physics work so maybe thats why I'm doubly-amazed when I see it in action.

      I saved two the other week for less than 70 bucks from Salvation Army along with two boxed Afterglow controllers.
      An old, Microsoft refurbished 2007 Zephyr
      And a Slim 2011 Corona
      Which should I use this winter as my main console?

    Funny enough in the Data Center world isopropyl alcohol wipes are used to clean thermal past off the cpus and heatsinks.

    Great video, as always. I modded a slim a couple of years ago, and for me the hardest part was dismantling the case. Wiring in the mod chip was a piece of cake in comparison! I wish I still had it.

  • @MrReese

    My 360 (in good condition, hardly any dust and no dirt after 16 years) stopped reading discs yesterday and only ever shows "Open Tray" when I insert a disc. I took it apart and tried the usual, like cleaning the belt, adjusting the resistance a bit, nothing worked. I also notice that my laser unit bumps against the center spindle twice whenever I start the console and whenever I close the drive. It sounds quite violent and I am not sure that's normal. Do you have any idea what could be wrong there?

    I thought all the fat models were crap? I bought a 360 a few years ago and I went with the S model to avoid any potential reliability issues and also because it has built-in wifi. Even so I only play it in winter since here on the west coast it can get up to 45C in Jan-Feb

    • @TheRetroChannel

      The later fat models are fairly reliable, but yeah the S is probably the sweet spot for reliability, features and looks. And they're still modable

      @@matttherrien9608 Personally, I would trust the Zephyr more than the Corona. In 09 the 360 originals were a couple years into their life cycle; Microsoft knew the issues and were sure to make them as reliable as possible thanks to the red ring crisis. • @jtchoi2003
      @jtchoi2003 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@robmoye7373It's very rare. If they did have RROD, it would have been from something minor like the dashboard files on the NAND or some power regulating component. Most of the early models failed from bad GPUs, which later boards fixed.

      Those pins are connected to the ground plane which will soak up all the heat. Heating that area of the board with hot air will help, then add solder to each pin that is stuck and try sucking it out again. It may take multiple passes to completely clear each hole
