I got into modding consoles by fixing old broken ones too - my childhood gameboy suffered from pretty bad battery corrosion, but I was able to fix it after watching some YT videos, which then led me to seeing how relatively easy modding was, and here I am, thousands of dollars later lol. Great video as always, Tito!

4:14 an easy way to access this tab is removing the sticker. It has a hole near the Dolby Digital logo, just put something like a paper clip and it releases the latch. Doing as shown works too but it can scratch the plastic

    • @devilinthewoods3809
      @devilinthewoods3809 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

You don't even need to take the sticker off. The pin hole is small enough that you can poke through it without it being very noticable.

I own a Japanese X360 launch model, and I bought a PAL version of the slim (looked exactly like this one) to play games that were locked to the PAL region.
Many of the X360 games were region free so I survived on my Japanese console. But Gears of War 3 was locked so bought my slim to play that.
Unfortunately I was burgled and they took the slim console, but left the older fat console which I still have to this day. Had to disassemble it a couple of years ago due to the same issue - the drive didn't eject. Turned out to be the rubber eject belt that needed boiling and the drive itself needed cleaning (especially where the belt touched; it gets dusty and oily over time).
    Enjoyed the video!

I've repaired a bunch of 360's myself - That drive belt is bad. They go bad very quickly as rubber likes to age poorly and stretch and weaken. You lubricating the drive basically just made it easier for the motor to drive it, allowing it to work again. Don't get me wrong, still a fix, but just a less permanent one.
By the way, super bad jeebies for closing the case before testing it.

One of the things you can do with a finicky DVD is to remove the belt and boil it for a couple of minutes keeping it off the bottom of the pan, this restores some of the elasticity so that it doesn't slip, or you can simply find replacements as the belt is often time one of the biggest issues with these. I RGH'd 2 then converted to RGH 3 on mine. I put a 2 TB drive in it and no longer have to switch disks and since I don't play it online as I have a Series X for that it makes for a better experience.

I saw a bunch of examples that people weren't even bidding on and was able to grab a 256gb Holiday Bundle model with 12 games and 2 controllers for $39 + shipping. I hate that hidden tab. Apparently you can stick a pin through a part of the sticker to get it open.
For my personal consoles I just bend the tab back so it doesn't latch when I close it up cause it's such a pain.
Btw, one of the long black T10 screws holding the metal cage on may or may not be under a sticker. Most of the time it is.
Also there's an X Clamp removal tool available on Weekend Modder that makes the process much safer and easier. It also puts all of the pressure on the heatsink and X Clamp instead of the board when reattaching the clamp.
I strongly recommend it because it's easy for the screwdrover to slip out of place and gouge the PCB when removing or to bend the PCB when reattaching. 360's have pretty thin and flexible PCB's so you do not want to bend it.
Also, when screwing the two screws by the power plug, make very sure not to overtighten them as that can flex the board. Some people have fixed E82 just by loosening those screws.
That foam gasket is annoying but when finding a replacement you don't need one that goes all the way around. "Trinity" consoles have one that goes all the way around and Corona ones have just 4 foam points. It's more for vibration than it is for sealing. You can probably get away with cutting some standard form to make a few foam squares and then supergluing them into the fan shroud.
Wow that 303 Aerosol really does the trick. Damn I'm gonna pick some up myself

That’s good to know. I may just get some foam tabs for the fan shroud. Also, thank you for all the other tips and tricks 👍 Cheers!

Great job with the repair. My personal favorite Xbox 360 game, was Lost Odyssey. One of if not the first game by Mistwalker studios. Honestly, if you love JRPG's, I'm not sure if it would be possible for you to dislike it. Give it a go!

I got into the hobby of refurbing consoles by fixing old gameboys. I highly recommend anyone looking to get into this to start with them since they’re fairy straightforward and have a lot of room for error. My most recent refurb was an original Xbox.

Here are my X360 recommendations. Note that some of these may no longer be exclusive, but it's what I enjoyed on the system.
Deathsmiles - really fun horizontal shmup by Cave
Culdcept Saga - it's basically Monopoly fused with Magic: the Gathering
Infinite Undiscovery - JRPG, pretty sure it's not exclusive
The Last Remnant - same as above
    Ninety-Nine Nights - same again
Tales of Vesperia - yet again, JRPG. FANTASTIC story, and fun combat. I know for sure this one is no longer exclusive, though.

this is nice for the purposes of the video and all but curious what would you do had it not worked? eat the cost and buy another for the disc drive and swap those parts? if so, what then with the 360 leftover, sell it? can you talk about that?

Ironically my experience with console repair started with the original 360. After having my day one get the red rings I wanted to save money so I’d look up common issues then I’d look up how to fix. Most of the time it just needed all dust removed new capacitor then It’d work again. I also would inspect the power brick.

    Like a last gen Sekiro.
Also if you like your anime stuff, Naruto had 2 Xbox 360 exclusives, Rise of a Ninja, and its sequel Broken Bonds, which still aren't backwards compatible with the One or Series S/X as of yet.

Xbox 360 is more than just a paperweight without a drive. Many games available digitally. Not all, but many. Still, glad you got it working.
Since you mentioned Blue Dragon, you should check out Last Odyssey, which is another amazing JRPG on 360. Microsoft gave it away for free a few years back, but can still be purchased digitally (was originally released on 2 DVDs).

The only issue with those third party hard drives is that you can't use OG Xbox backward compatibility with them. Like I think the ones sold on the store work, but you can't use your discs. It has something to do with the partitioning. But if you don't care about that, then they're a great option. Far better on a cost:storage ratio stand point than the official drives.

I knew the ppl that worked at an ebgames (gamestop in canada) and a kid was trading in his ps3 slim with a bunch of games and told the guys at the counter the ps3 is busted. EB told him they can't take it for trade credit so but the kid said he's just gunna toss it so if they wont take, so they asked me if i wanted it. To make a long story slightly shorter i ended up fixing it by replacing the BD drive for only 40$ and it worked like new... And this was just before the ps4! Good deal!

i delid the IHS on the XCGPU to replace the dried crusty thermal paste under it too. It is not as hard as a PS3. Replaced the polymer caps with higher quality ones for longer service time. The low quality polymer caps are pink in color. Blue, dark Red color are better quality ones and hopefully don't require replacement. faulty caps do cause RLOD. finally RGH3 is installed for unlock the xbox's potential especially using hacked backwards compatibility files for OG xbox games and using bigger HDDs.

@@MachoNachoProductions you have to be careful when you do the delid. there are smd capacitors near the edge on 1 side. xbox 360 S and E doesn't really need a delid as they run cool and quiet compared to phat ps3s especially with increased fan speeds through dashlaunch or freestyle dash. I bought 2 kronos (jasper v2) xbox 360 for cheap and sent them to get the 1500uF and 820uF capacitors replaced with polymer caps too. i can't melt the solder with my hakko soldering gun. the person who did it said he had to use 700C. these 2 kronos xb360s are set to be reliable for years to come. with RGH3 and aurora dashboard, games converted to GOD format on the internal HDD runs like a dream. no noise from the dvd drive. I haven't tried a SSD but i'm sure with it, it would be the ultimate XB360
