Flood Totaled Turbo Miata Going Back Together! New Parts! Carpet Install & Much More!

  • Welcome to the 2nd installment of this Miata project. I bought this car from the auction as a total loss from a low level fresh water flood. Having known the previous owner, I knew the car had a lot of expensive modifications and was an overall nicely built car. If you haven't seen the previous video, go here: • Saving A Highly Modifi...
In this video I tackle a myriad of small projects on the car from fixing the blower motor, to relocating the aftermarket stand-alone engine controller to 90-93 Miata ECU location, installing the carpet, and much more. These cars are all very easy and simple to work on which is why I even considered this project in the first place.
I really hope you enjoyed the update on this project, there are more coming soon!
As always I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism.
Catch you on the next one!
    -Eric

While I mostly watch for your teardowns, I do enjoy your other projects such as this one. You inspire me, while not to teardown my engines, to just get out in the garage and start turning wrenches. Every time I watch your videos, I end up out in my garage tinkering for a a couple days. My wife thanks you for that as well! ;)

That Miata (mx-5) will be great when you finish with it. A good friend of mine in New Zealand has the Eunos version and had the original first version limited edition in British Racing Green with the Momo stuff. Drove it once going from Sydney to the Gold Coast and the only complaint I had was it could do with more power. I was amazed by how heavy the steering was in such a tiny car but that added to the charm :)

On my wishlist for one of your much appreciated teardowns: a Volvo 5 cylinder modular engine, preferably turbo, so 2.3T, 2.4T, 2.5T (they're all LPT), or one of those with a bigger turbo. Some have single VVT, some double.
The blocks themselves can go 300.000 miles easily, but maintenance is crucial. So you could find a high mileage one that failed after two decades or so.
Looking forward to a video of a Volvo engine!

i have a terminology suggestion for the material (smaller than piston mcnuggetts) left specifically in the pan: "fond" as it's referred to in cooking terminology. think heating the pan over med-high heat and then adding a cheap white wine whilst you whisk to get all those tasty giblets courtesy of whatever mechanical failure that took place upstream. hope your Mrs. and newest addition are doing well.

I always keep some cheap, double-sided tape on hand for instances like that megasquirt install. If I need to hold something in place and can't see, I'll throw some of that on to figure out where everything fits. Usually isn't too bad to clean up after I mark the holes I need to drill, especially on anything metal.
Sticky Velcro is also great for that, but not for this specific use. My old job required a lot of "an extra set of hands" that were never available, so lots of things got Velcroed in place because they needed to be able to be moved at times.
