This customer came in requesting to have his master window switch replaced based on the research he had done. I decided to check the fuses first and the driver door harness but then proceeded to install the new switch as i didn't see any problems.
I show you the 2 most common reasons the power windows in your 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee don't work and A faulty master switch can cause a multitude of other electrical problems in these rigs as well. `

Yes!! Jeep rolls up. Nothing works on drivers door: locks, windows, mirror, lites etc. Open the boot, splice the broken gnd wire. Everything works. 10 min. and done. This info is NOT in the repair manual. Saved me a ton of grief and time.

You were right on! After watching your video I went out and found the broken power wire in the door wire bundle - caused by the wire being worked/creased and over time failed just as you identified in your video. Repaired and returned to service in less than 20 minutes from start to finish. Very thankful to have found this video. I'm a new subscriber!!!

Thank You. Saved me Hundreds of dollars. I checked harness once quickly. After tearing everything apart I was about to order part when I watched your video. Rurns out my harness was broke farther in where I couldnt see at first
Had similar problem,on my 2000 grand cherokee...and it turned out to be really simple. Battery connections. Mine are all new,nice and clean...but one of the wires was not making good connection. If you are chasing the problem of no windows working,intermittent console....clean and tighten your battery terminals. Could aave a lot of headache

great video, started with removing the boot to inspect the wires and yep found it was my black wire.. so for now i spliced it and now everything works as it should, windows door locks etc..

Did as you said, checked ALL the fuses, OF COURSE they were all ok. lol Then checked the door boot and found 1 wire causing ALL my problems, fixed it and good as gold now! Thank you Bud, 4 years later. I've got electrical gremlins in my '01 grand cherokee. The more grounds I cleaned and replaced the worse the issues become.

I have the exact same problem. Found that the ground has a break somewhere. I took a pice of wire and stuck it in the master switch connector and found another ground - the ignition switch and everything worked but after watching your video I need to check the passenger door. Wiring diagram shows a ground there as in your video. Thanks dude good stuff.
For anyone that thinks the pace is too fast, the settings for the video can be changed at the bottom of the screen to a slower playback speed. Thank you for this video. Because I had the same problem with my Jeep. Checked those door harnesses and found the same broken wires and one that was about to in the driver door. Reconnected them and my back window ups again.

I had (4) broken wires in the rear driver's side door jam, soldered in new sections of wire and good to go, thanks again!

I had the same problem . After the second time I bought silicone coated ELECTRICAL METER LEAD WIRE. much more flexible jacket and the wire has more thinner conductors. It was a pain in the ass but worked good.

Hey man thanks again it finally quit raining and I opened passenger door sliced open the rubber boot and there it was a fat orange wire with a clean break like it had been cut I spliced about 4" of wire onto the severed orange ends and VIOLA windows and locks work perfect on all doors and either switch THANK YOU SO MUCH. Great video question though...what is the middle plug for on the window switch. I went to replace my switch and it's still not working and the middle plug on my switch doesn't match up with the one on the car but I have the oem part
Just dealt with the same exact problem today, broken wires and all. And it had a 20 year old alarm wired into master switch harness and all the windows. All that fixed and still needs a master switch lol

Great video. Direct and to the point. I have this issue, but haven't been able to find the break. I assume can be in any of 4 doors or rear liftgate? Also, should I cut boot(s), if necessary, to get access?

I just had my power windows/mirrors and locks stop working on the drivers side. The door lock works on the passenger side but even my keys can't unlock the driver's door.

As soon as I look on the passenger side I found the broken black wire 😮 then I checked the driver side and I had two broken wires, the black one and the orange one . Both are the fattest wires in the harness, I put them back together and what do you know I got my power windows back working . Thanks for the info !

I have replaced all my wires and the only thing not working is the lock switch, locking them to be exact as the switch works to unlock the doors but not lock them. All wires are good, all fuses etc I replaced the master switch box and STILL have the "lock" part of the lock switch not working. Any ideas man? Appreciate it!

Great video. Trying to fix my daughter’s Jeep. Same issue- driver front & rear windows work. Only the drivers side mirror works. And only the drivers door will lock with the lock button.
Nothing on the passenger side works- windows front & back don’t work. Passenger side mirror won’t work, and neither door locks with the button on drivers side or the passenger side button.
Bought a new switch on eBay & had the same problems. Found your video & watched it. I’m wondering if the harness on the passenger side Carries the power for for both doors AND the power mirror?
Also, the fuse block diagram in the owner’s manual does not list a fuse for any of the power windows or power mirrors. Or power locks. I tried to check those 1st before taking the door panel off, but no listing for any of them. Any advice on those would be great.

We have a 99 G C and the windows will fail on occasion, We found that disconnecting the battery cable gets them to work again. Any idea what is behind that?
Checked My wires going into the door one was broke and nothing worked. Everything worked perfect when spliced it....

Hello what would you suggest if the white connector is backing off the window master switch ? If i press or hold it just so the window works . So i don't know if its the switch or connector or part number. If i did order a connector and it says right door do you think it would be any different than the driver side.I may try to test this some how by moving driver door over to passenger side and plugging into it and see if that backs out as well and works .Any advice appreciated thank you
zip tie or a little silicone sealant should do the trick.
How do you pull that plug out of the door white connector.

what about if i've checked the fuses and both boots and the orange wire gets power but rest of terminals don't light up when i test them. but i don't know what's next because i've checked everything and all windows still won't move

Great vid tho mate. Just picked up a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 2nd Jeep I’ve owned. Had a 77 CJ5 Renegade with the 304, Dana rear end. I had it hopped up a lil and setting in 4” body lift with 38.5” Gumbo Monster Mudders, and Ground Hogs. But, this 2004 is actually in great shape but a few electrical issues with the passenger side power. And the dash lights are extremely dim, and interiors don’t come on automatically. Ever. Any ideas? 😂. I did subscribe and I’ll be watching your vids. Cheers.
Is there a way to roll up a window manually? My driver window has been down for over a week and I took the door panel off and tried to pull the window up but it only went up about 3-4 inches and wouldn't go any more. None of my other windows will roll down.
If the motor is shot, there is not really a super easy way. On some cars you can cut the lift cables and then manually push the window up and secure it. Probably best to just find out why it's not going up. If it's electrical issue you could take the door panel off and directly apply 12 volts to the window motor
Can you state an average price to fix this issue as I am not comfortable doing it myself and would like to know the average price before I shop around

I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee that we pulled the entire dash out to do a heater core and evaporator the radio stays on when the key isnt on the parking lights are on all the time even with the key off the new blower motor wont run on high and the gauges wont work but if you fiddle with the turn signal /headlight switch the gauges come back and it will be fine a few hours then cuts out again. i replaced all the battery cables positive and negative all the way to the starter and the fuse distribution box the relays chattter on the inside fuse block at the same time its got to be a bad ground, i took a wire and grounded it to the seat bolt to the black wire on the blower and bam everything comes back but if i leave the temporary ground to the blower motor hooked up the blower only runs on high! The engine runs fine and starts fine but thats it
What about when the drivers door has power but sometimes the other 3 doors don't have power?

I have an 04 WJ 2WD and Casper the Friendly Ghost keeps rolling down the drivers side rear window with no one touching any controls. It rolls all the way down just like the driver's control operates its own window. Never partally. If I activate the passenger window lock it doesn't do it, but if I unlock the pass win lock it's liable to roll down randomly again. Sometimes but not always I can get that window to roll down just by unlocking the Pass win lock. Fun and games. No other anomalies. The Jeep is otherwise perfect with just over 100,000 miles. Switch? wires? or exorcism?
