Neat tiny bees, didn't expect them to be that small that they look like classic house flies upon casual look, it's only when you take a closer look do you realize that they're bees.
I have to say from where i live these stingless bees are quite common sight in suburban areas to point that you could spot two hives in one area mostly inaccessible due to being on live trees or man-made structures like walls or sometimes within furnitures
These little bees rest in a hole in my door for a few weeks every year here in cairns. I love them, never realised I could keep them like other bees. Love them and your awesome educational videos. Thanks heaps!
Hi Nick I believe I have found a species of stingless bees here in Chinchilla QLD. There half the size of our Tetragonola Carbonaria bees and move much more erratically. They also are much thinner in the body similar to an ant. But I have a heap of them today collecting pollen off a lavender bush. There about 2-2.5mm long. I’ve taken a video and a photo.
Dave Alan you can search “Buy Australian native stingless bees” on line and the results should be huge. I sell them on my blog but it’s mostly dependent on your area as to which type you should purchase. It is my personal opinion that Tetragonula hockingsi are the best bee for new beginners as they are a strong strong bee that makes a good amount of honey.
fast. ingwarship yes you can!! I believe Itama and Thoracica are the most commonly kept where you are. Check the resins in your area first. If your hive is far from a forest it might not be a good idea. Keep your hive in shade out of direct sunlight as your humidity and heat will cook a hive faster than a log colony. Also seek a local keeper who is a master to help with care knowledge for your bees. 🙏
@@australiannativebee3662 thanks alot for the info! yes, it's thoracica :) We now have one colony of the bees living in three layers of boxes. It used to build honey pots on the top most layer so we could easily harvest it, but now it is filled with egg cells. We are thinking it could be that they do not have space for egg cells. If you have any ideas what can be done with it? And I'm watching your vids to learn more, thanks for sharing the valuable information!
fast. ingwarship have a look at the series super video. I’d build one for the top of your hive that has a full sheet of ply Accross the base. I’d go deeper for species , maybe 35mm and drill holes through the ply around 20mm in diameter. Keep the holes away from the center of the ply so brood doesn’t come up through them. 👍🏻
@@australiannativebee3662 sure, i'm learning a lot from your vids and thanks so much for the detailed information, will definitely try that out. cheers, :)
Hi Mate,I found some native bees in the bush. How can i gwt the honey out? It's in a old stump. I don't wanna disturb the bees to much but is there a way to get the honey?
Hi Nick. I would like to contact you and share information about Brazilian stingless bees. We have more than 300 species and would like to bring you closer to Brazilian stingless beekeepers.
Gidday Nick we rescued a austroplebia colony they have been in a hive for 3 and a half months We’re having trouble identifying the species and they have sealed the entrance and ventilation holes and sealed themselves into the hive ? Thanks heaps for the videos mate !
NorthernBorderBoys they should be Australis. Have a check on the back of their thorax (middle section) see if the is a cream colored stripe on base of this. If they have it and are around the size of your other bees you can almost 100% say they are Australis. If they are jet black you may have something else. :)
Australiannativebee thank you heaps mate that definitely matches our bees with the little white cream stripes on the back of their thorax ! Should we be worried about them sealing themselves up for 3 days now ?
NorthernBorderBoys bees seal themselves in when they are weak, the hive is in danger or they are low on bee numbers. If you have a good amount of brood and the queen they should be ok. If not than they might be in a little trouble.
greetings from Indonesia, West Kalimantan, the honey is amazing, good friend!! Can this species be developed in Indonesia, friend?? hope it grows fast👍🇮🇩

Amazing bees. The first species presented resembles a genus of Brazilian bees called plebeia. For exemple, plebeia droryana.

How many species have in Australia?
Less then 15 in both Tetragonula and Austroplebeia family combined. However I know of two that are unnamed.
Cool. Thanks. When I was in the West cost I saw some in flowers and on hive in a garden in the center of some city.
What do the 2 unnamed ones look like?
I have a few varieties.
Im just south of brisbane
can i keep the malaysia stingless bees the same way as you do here?

Attatch another hive to it and go from there
@@vwbusguy Like take another hive and let them congregate
No put an empty box in front with a hose attatched.
They will build a new nest in 2 months in the new box.
And you will have a free hive to take home.
